Ipod touch unable to restore after trying to update software

I tried to update to the latest software for the ipod touch 2g today. It didn't work and i got an error message. Then i tried to restore the ipod with the latest version of itunes, and it still didn't work??
What do i do?
I am using a windows xp machine

I had the same problem, this is how I fixed it...
I had to go to a completely new computer (my work one) that didn't have iTunes on it, install iTunes 9.0, then do the restore...now it works...
I would assume that if you removed every last vestige of iTunes from your computer it would act the same way. I think you would have to delete and completely remove the iTunes files from your user folder on Windows machines (AppData or LocalData, the hidden folder with the iTunes info in it...)

  • IPod Touch Unable to Restore After Connecting

    Hi there,
Before I explain my problem, here are my specs:
    - Running Windows XP with iTunes 9.0.2.25 (laptop is 3+ years old)
    - iPod Touch 2nd Generation, 32GB running OS 3.1.2
    - Purchased the iTouch in December 2009 from an online Future Shop sale
My iTouch was working fine this morning - until I tried accessing a site in Safari. Everything froze, so I just did a manual shut down by pressing the hold and home buttons together. Afterwards, the device tried rebooting, but continually got stuck at the Apple logo screen (without the spinning loop). A few seconds later, the screen would light up and then turn off. Then, it would continue to try rebooting.
It seems to me that it's stuck in a reboot loop. However, when I try entering DFU mode, it sometimes works (I've tried this many times today and nothing seems to be working). When I plug in the device into my laptop, iTunes is able to recognize it and prompt me to restore it.
When I click on the restore button, the iTouch is stuck at the Apple logo screen (with a progress bar), while my iTunes shows "Waiting for iPod...". After ten minutes, nothing happens - the progress bar on my iPod doesn't move at all.
I've tried restoring my iPod for about 2 hours today to no avail. I always get stuck at the 'Waiting for iPod' screen.
I contacted Apple Support earlier today via telephone, but it wasn't really helpful since I already carried out the same steps the support member gave me (enter DFU mode, connect iPod, restore).
Can someone help me? It's only been 3 months, so I'm not sure what is going with the device.
    Thank you in advance!

  • Ipod Touch won't restore after memory cleared

    Hi,
i have an ipod touch 2g that was on 3.1.2 software, and i needed to clear memory and start over. i clicked the option "erase all content and settings" in the settings menu of the ipod.
after it had finished clearing the memory i plugged the ipod back into the computer and put it into the mode with the cable and the itunes icon (the mode that it was in when it came in the box) after it went into that mode it showed up on itunes as a "device that needs to be restored", so i clicked restore, it extracted firmware, and now has been stuck on "waiting for ipod" for 10 hours, with the ipod's screen showing an apple and an empty loading bar (has stayed empty for 10 hours)
    anyone help?
    thanks in advance

    Welcome to the discussions,
Did you try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If this does not work, locate the *.ipsw firmware file on your computer and copy it to a save place and delete the original file, leave the folder empty and don't delete it. This will make itunes get a new copy from Apple instead of using the one stored on your computer, maybe it got damaged. Then try again to restore.

  • Ipod touch won't restore, turn on or update

My ipod touch will not restore.I use it only for music and my 6 year old plays the games. It was dead flat after a long trip yesterday and when I tried to charge it nothing happen. I then plugged it into the computer and a msg came up that it was in recovery mode and needed to be restored. When I pressed restore is comes up with another msg to say "software for this Iphone is not currently available update the latest version of itunes and try again" I checked to make sure I have the latest version of itunes which I do. It comes up as an Iphone which it isn't. My husband has the iphone and can plug his phone in no worries. I thought it wasn't because I don't plug into itunes very often and my ipod was behind the times in updates but when I rang Apple they are saying I have a version of the software to advanced for itunes ***!!!! Have no idea how that happen Help

  • Iphone is stuck in recovery mode and cannot restore after trying to update to iOS6 - not jailbroken

I have an iphone4s, and the question basically says it all - after trying to update to ios6, the udgrade downloaded to my computer and started loading onto my phone. However it sudeenly just stopped an turned into the balck screen asking to plug into itunes. When I do this, it says I have to restore the phone, but when I try to restore, it says there is an error (3014).
    I have tried:
    - pressing the home and top buttons unti the apple appears
    - Checked all security software and the ports aren't blocked
    - Have tried pressing option+restore to choose ios6 and ios5.1.1 - neither has worked
    - Its been like this for about a day and a half now, and I have probably tried to restore it at least 50 times to no avail, always with the same error code.
    What can I do??
Is this something to do with how busy the appl servers are? And when should I expect to be able to use my phone again?

Yeah same exact problem as me.  EXACTLY.  In a way I'm glad more than just me are having the problem so I know it's probably not on my end and on the apple side....I HOPE that is what it is.
MAN, a whole day and a half????  Crap I need my phone to work....
I really think it's the apple servers because it errors 3014 right when iTunes says "verifying phone....." something....  It goes away so fast I can't read the rest, but I think that is the step where it verifies phone to the apple servers, which are overloaded, I assume.
It's gotta be that.  How many other people are having this same exact issue?

  • Ipod touch unable to restore?, Help.

I have been given an IPod touch from my sister as she brought a new one, because she was having problems with the IPod not connecting to her computer etc..
I have had the same problems with the IPod when connected to my computer e.g. USB not recognized, iTunes not picking IPod up when connected. After searching the Internet I decided to update my ITunes and Windows, ITunes was still not picking up the iPod when connected so I decided to ?restore the iPod its now frozen in restore, I can turn it off but nothing else, USB now recognizes IPod as 'IPod in recovery mode, you must restore before continuing.' usually  after a few mins a bubble will pop up saying 'USB device not recognized, a device connected to this computer has malfunctioned'. ITunes now opens 80% of the time when the IPod is connected but is unable to complete the restore, the usual error is 1611 or 'the IPod could not be restored, device could not be found.'
I have tried to update the USB but am told that 'there could not be a better match for the hardware then the software the is currently been used'. I have restarted my computer and used all the different USB ports with no change and have tried connecting to a different computer (different computer wont recognize IPod at all). Sorry about my rambling but I'm stuck for ideas and probably should of just asked here first, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards Amanda

I hope this one works for me too, cause I have a similar problem...
instead of error 1611 it says error 2009...
i did everything apple writes about fixing that particular problem...didn't help one little bit....
i'm keeping my fingers crossed *g*

  • IPod touch 2G not restoring after paid 3.1 update

Hi I'm new here, this is my problem.
    I have an iPod touch 8GB 2G, purchased in August last year, anyway, I decided to treat myself last Saturday and update it, thing is, when it updated it froze then put itself in restore mode, thinking this was just part of the process of updating I clicked restore, it then decided not to update and iTunes gave me a bout of errors such as the most common (13,14,1604) and the uncommon (20) after feeling extremely guilty for even bothering with the update in the first place, I did everything possible to make it work such as;
    removing iTunes
Re-installing all apple software incl iTunes.
After managing to calm myself down my friend offered me his 2G 16GB as he was given two iPod's in September by his divorced parent's.
So I plugged this one into iTunes ready to sync it, when suddenly; it decided (against my will) as I'd already purchased the update, to update this one to a 3.0, the exact same process occurred and I now have a brand new iPod that will not restore itself.
May I say I have tried EVERYTHING, un-installing, re-installing, deleting the software updates, re-booting, different computers, I have even tried a jailbreak with no success.
As I live in Scotland and both iPod's were purchased in Argos, I cannot get support from anywhere, any suggestions or help, PLEASE, I am at the end of my tether and I don't want a brand new iPod touch to go to waste.
Can I also mention, I have tried restoring it from various iTunes series, (7.0,8.0 and 9.0) and it is not restoring in any of them.
I have tried jailbreakers; Ra1n and QuickFreedom.
I think this may be to do with the 3.1 software from Apple, therefore, after reading various similar posts, I am not alone.
This has had me in tears as my original 8GB iPod touch was a gift from my recently deceased grandfather and the fact it has broken has had me in tears.
    Anyway, help is well appreciated

I had the same problem once and right now I'm typing this reply on the iPod that had the error, so it's a semi-easy fix. This isn't the way I did it but as soon as I remeber I'll post that as well.
Ok, first check to see if your iPod is connected to your computer via a USB hub. If so then unplug it and plug directly into a USB port on your computer.
If that doesn't work try updating the USB driver like this:
    1. Plug your iPod into the computer (no USB hub).
    2. Quit iTunes if it is open.
    3. Click on the start menu.
    4. Click control panel.
    5. In the control pane,l click on administrative tools. If you don't see this option look at the left column and click switch to classic view. You should then be able to click administrative tools.
    6. Double click the computer management option.
    7. In the left column you see the device manager option under the system tools folder.
    8. In the right column, click the plus sign next to universal bus controllers to expand this option.
    9. In the dropdown list look for anything related to iPod or Apple. You might see something like "iPod" or "Apple Mobile Device." You may also see a yellow colored exclamation point symbol, which means you need to update the driver.
    10. RIGHT CLICK the "iPod" or "Apple Mobile Device" and choose update driver from the menu.
    11. A hardware update wizard will pop up. Choose "Yes, this time only," then click next.
    12. Select insall the software automatically and click next.
If that doesn't work let me know. This is a fix I found on the Internet. Some people still had trouble afterwards and others didn't.

  • IPod Touch - Unable to restore!

I have a 32 GB 1st Gen iPod Touch that I bought in the restore mode, thinking I'd be able to fix it easily. Well, clearly that is not the case! I do not know the history of the ipod - if the previous owner tried to jailbreak it or what - although I am trying to find out. Let me describe the symptoms and what I have done to try to fix the ipod.
As I said, I bought the ipod in its current state. The first thing I did was connect it to the computer and attempt to restore it through itunes. Now, this is what is odd, it did restore and start up once with the full GUI. I wanted to test it out so I added a couple of playlists to it and ejected it, but once that was done it went right back into restore mode.
I have been through most of the advice on the web. I put it into dfu mode and tried to reinstall, I've tried putting it in dfu mode and trying to install previous versions of the os from 1.4 up to 3.0. Most of the time, I am not able to get to the install part of the process (when you get the apple logo with the progress bar underneath it. What happens is iTunes expands the software, and then just at the moment when it comes to install on the ipod, the ipod icon disappears from the itunes sidebar and, it seems, disconnects from the computer. Now, this has happened on several computers now, so it's not a usb port problem on my computer.
I've tried several other things. I have tried using Ziphone in case it was a failed jailbreak. However, in that program I don't get very far - before it starts it tells me that the usbmuxlistenercreate is not found. The most helpful tool I've come across is iRecovery which is a terminal app. (I'm not sure if that's the right term, but it's accessed through terminal). With that program I am able to reach the ipod and get some info on it and execute some commands. I can paste the printenv results if that would be helpful. I've found several sites that recommend setting the autoboot to true rather than false. I've tried this but the odd thing is that after I set autoboot to true (and I do a printenv again to make sure it's reset), I try to restore the ipod, it fails (errors 20, 21, and 1604 are the most common) and when I go back in, the autoboot is set back to false. Seems to be a pattern of resetting.
I'd really appreciate some help here. I can access Windows (although only 7) through my virtual machine and I do have access to a computer with 10.5.8 on it as well.

Hi mine done something similar after downloading v9, when i got to the part with the Apple logo & download bar mine stopped too ! I discovered there was a problem with it not downloading the new usb driver - maybe this might help you !. during download go into control panel - Administrative tools - Computer management - Device manager & look for an exclamation mark on i-pod usb driver - if this is so double click it & update the driver ! hope this helps you ! Davy.

  • My Ipod Touch won't restore after full reset!!! please help fast!!!

My Ipod touch 3g 8gb on 3.1.3 got some major problems recently. When I wanted to take a snapshot it just doesn't appear in photos. When I wanted to save an image from Safari it doesn't appear in photos. Then I got fed up and pressed Reset Settings. That finished and the photos problem wasn't solved. Still. I chose Reset all settings and content. I confirmed it and Ipod Touch was doing it for like 20-25min. After that it just won't start up. I am trying to restore it right now with iTunes and again to 3.1.3 (3.1.2 or other doesn't work). I clicked restore, everything went fine but now, it is stuck at like 95% and won't move. I really don't know what I did wrong and what I have to do to fix it. Any suggestions?

  • HT201210 my Ipad will not restore after trying to update what do I do?

I tried to update my Ipad to 6.0 .  NOw I am getting an alert that was unable to restore!!!  What do I do?  All I was trying to do was add some music to my IPAD!!

Did you get an error #? What iOS version are you currently running?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Ipod touch will not sync after new itunes update

Ipod touch 4th generation will not sync after I updated the new itunes. Actually after I updated to the new itunes it deleted all my music from my ipod and refuses to reload. If someone could please help me that would be completely appreciated. I tried trying to sync each song individually but it didn't help (before it stopped syncing), then it stopped syncing, even though I have it hooked up it brings everything that I have on my ipod up but it won't do anything.

When I tried the first time it asked me if i wanted it to stop syncing and to restore. It gave the choices of yes and cancel, i didn't click either because the option box went away and it just stopped restoring on its own. I did the store again and now it is asking if i want to set up as a new ipod or to restore to Andrea's ipod. Should I set up as new?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
