Ipod Touch update to iOS5 - Manual Manage Media

Hi,
I currently manage all my music manually on my IPOD Touch.
My IPOD Touch is requesting that I update the operating system to iOS5. However a warning message is displayed explaining that once update is complete all media on my IPOD will be deleted. To preserve this content I must undertake the update on a computer that is sync'd to my IPOD.
I do not have a copmputer is not sync'd to any computer. I work on a shared computer.
Am I able to update the operating system, continue to manually manage my media, and not lose my music?
Thank You

As the message says, you will lose the mediaon the iPod after the update unless the media is in the iTunes library on the computer. Media is not included in the backup that iTunes make as the fist stage of the update. You can transfer most items to a computer and then do the update and sync the stuff back. If in the USa you can also redownload moste iTunes purchases via iCloud.

  • Why won't my 3g ipod touch update to ios5 after its been restored?

I restored my 3g ipod and it still won't update to ios5. How can I solve this?

Are you sure that it is a 3G iPod? To be sure, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353   If it is a 2G iPod, it cannot go beyond 4.2.1

  • HT201593 The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why?

The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why? I guess the question speaks for itself. I have the latest version of iTunes and iOS 8.2 on my iPod Touch.

If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Very very very not happy.

Unfortunately if the music has not been transfered to a computer and/or backed up, there is not much that can be done...

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

How can I be certain the contact list in my iPod touch updates my computer Outlook contact list when I sync and not go the other way? The options in iTunes are not specific enough. In other words, I want to replace the information in my computer Outlook contact list with the data from my iPod touch.

  • I have an Ipod touch updated to last available ios 4.2.1. How can I get the last compatible versions of the apps?

I have an Ipod touch updated to last available ios 4.2.1.
How can I get the last compatible versions of the apps?
In the appstore there are only the lat app versions, most of them are incompatible with my device.
I know that previous versions of these apps were compatible with my ipod.
    Can all download them someway?
    thanks

The problem is: I never had the compatible versions. But I want them, I'd buy them if I could.
So I'm stuck with my Ipod, which can't be upgraded anymore to higher IOS versions, and with the appstore, that does not offer older versions; versions that have existed and still exist, perhaps in the recycle bin of some users, or somewhere in the appstore servers.
I know, its a policy, just to sell more devices. Will not work with me. I'm not buying more Ipods

  • IPod Touch Update 1.1.1 - Unknown error occurred, Wiped my iPod

I attempted the iPod Touch Update 1.1.1. The software downloaded completely, then the progress dialog appeared that it was preparing my iPod for the update. After a lengthy delay I received an error dialog saying that an unknown error had occurred(1602).
After looking through my logs, the only relevant entry I can find is the following in iPodUpdater 3.log:
    2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: device connected (isDFU = 0)
2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: error getting plugin interface for device: 0xe00002be
    2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: an erorr occurred handling a connected device: 0x7d1
    2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: _AMRecoveryModeDeviceFinalize: 0x14caa540
This failure left that initial screen of the iPod plugin and iTunes symbol. I closed iTunes and relaunched it, as my iPod wasn't listed in the devices list. Upon relaunch, the iPod was detected but an error dialog appeared and said that my iPod was in a recovery state and had to be restored in order to work. So I restored my iPod and it updated it to 1.1.1.
I have done nothing special to my iPod, I've only had it for a few days, but this update wiped my iPod clean. This is absolutely unacceptable for an update and I am very disappointed in Apple for this. They claim they are keeping the platform locked so things like this don't occur, but clearly it isn't helping.

Mine upgraded from 1.1 flawlessly, but I was holding my breath...
So far, I have never had a glitch like the one described here on my Ipods, but have read similar stories everywhere. This happens on Pocket PC PDAs as well.
I've used my dubious firmware patching abilities to (as they say) brick a couple of things over the years, including a fairly nice Vaio. There was a time (after walking 10 miles through the snow, uphill both ways) that a failed firmware update meant that your computer was useful only as a doorstop if something went wrong.

  • New iPod Touch update deletes everything

When installing new iPod Touch update, all songs and photos were deleted. Restore from back up you say? I tried, and iTunes said it was backing everything up before it installed the update but when it didn't, This isn't really a question, but Apple needs to fix this for future updates.

The backup that iTunes makes does not include music, and other items like synced photos that are synced to the iPod.  If these items are not on the computer/iTunes library on the computer on which the update was performed, the items will not be on the iPod after the update.  The following lists what is included in the backup.

  • Last ipod touch update messed up my album covers

The last Ipod touch update has messed up my album covers of songs I transfered from CD. a long time ago after purchasing my ipod I learnt how I could change the artwork from a boring musical note to the respected album covers the songs came from and this method no longer works.
Although I should share that method which was to basically click on the first song on the album (for example "Come Together" on Abbey Road) and then hold ctrl and hit the last song on the album (in Abbey Road case it is "Her Majesty") thus highlighting the all the songs on the album and then changing the artwork there. As stated this method no longer works, I've tryed about 3 times and although it fixed a few songs (about 6 out of the 150ish that were altered back to default after the update).
Is there anyway to change it because I have a mild OCD that makes me want to see the artwork upon it changing songs as I use my ipod on a daily basis.
Other infomation that may assist in answers:
-The album artwork does indeed show on the album list screen, just not on most songs upon playing them
-All the songs that the album artwork altered during the update were purchased by other means to Itunes and then transfered to itunes. (CDs in this particular case)
-There all albums apart of the Beatles Box Set that I was luckily gifted at christmas.
-The Ipod touch, I believe its the latest one, it has the two cameras on it, not sure I don't follow up with the "improved" versions of Apple products
-My itunes is running on a PC (masterrace) not Mac.
Thank you if you answered responsibily, and if you responded like a tool then I dislike you.

  • I've upgraded my 4th gen ipod to ios6.  I manually manage videos and music.  My video playlists(which I can access via the music icon) are there but my videos aren't.  I can see the videos when tapping the videos icon so I know they are there. Any ideas?

I've upgraded my 4th gen ipod to ios6.  I manually manage videos and music as it is easier to access my videos through playlists which I access through the music icon.  Since upgrading to ios6 the playlists are there but when I go into them the individual videos aren't visible.  I know they are there because I can access them through the videos icon.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Does it still turn on to the Apple logo?
If it does, turn it on and hold it up to your ear. If it's making a clicking sound, try hitting it easy a few times on the side. The idea is the hdd is "stuck" and hitting it loosens it. Just don't do it too hard to break it.

  • My computer thinks that my iPod cant update to ios5 and thinks that 4.2.1 is the latest software how can i get it to update?

My computer thinks that my iPod cant update to ios5 and thinks that 4.2.1 is the latest software how can i get it to update?
I dont know what to do any help please ??

I thing yu really have a 2G iod. Those can only to to 4.2.1.  If yours is a 8 or 16 GB one it is a 2G iPod.  Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. A 32 GB one could be either.  To identify your iPod:

  • My new computer freezes in my iPod Touch update (3.1.3)

I was installing the new update for my 3rd generation ipod touch (update 3.1.3) and my computer that work with Windows 7 freezes. It was the new i7 processor that freezes and the only to debug my computher is to press the big button. After, I debug my iPod using the 2 buttons on my iPod pressing 10 seconds. When I plog my iPod on iTunes, it said that the ipod needs a restore and then install the update... but iTunes said that it was impossible. I think that iTunes said that it was the error 1604. Now, on my iPod screen, it said to plog my iPod to iTunes but my problem persist.
Thank you to help me with my problem.

    Welcome to the discussions,
do you have any firewall or anti virus software active during the restore process? If yes, disable it and try again to restore. Also make sure that Apple Mobile Device Service is installed and active: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
