Ipod touch v 4.2.1, unable to download ios 5...

Every time I open up iTunes (10.5) and let my ipod back up and finish its usual sync, I go to my ipod and chose check for update, however it states that the 4.2.1 update I have now is the current one... I have a 3rd generation ipod, anyone have any idea as to why it will not show ios 5 for updating?

Because you probably really have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to 4.2.1. If yurs is a 8 or 16 GB one it is a 2G. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. A 32 GB can be ither. To identify yours:

When I go to Settings > General > Software Update, it says I can download the iOS 6. So I click Download & Install and it starts to download, but after about half an hour a notification comes up saying "An Error occured while downloading iOS 6".... I had my iPod touch 4th generation connected to iTunes the whole time, and I've tried restarting my iPod before downloading, and closing all my other apps before downloading it. But it still does the same thing! It has done this 4 times now! All I want is the new Emoji keyboard, is that too much to ask?! Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? I've read a few things about it and discovered that this issue is common, but I can't get the answer I need, and the other posts about this issue were made like two years ago. I've got enough space, definitely, and last night it was downloading it so I put it on the charger and went to sleep, when I woke up it said "Cannot download. Internet connection is required." something like that. I had no issues last night, but now it's saying it cannot download.
Can someone please help?
I've not updated my ipod for a year or so now, but I'm still not sure why it's not working.

You have to have an internet connection, either wireless or through a computer with iTunes. When you choose Software Update you can only update to the latest version for your iPod Touch, iOS 6.1.6

because you do not have a 3rd generation device. The OS Version says so , otherwise you would be at 4.3.5 minimum and also Itunes is also always correct in determining if you have the latest OS ( if not it fetches the newest from Apple's Servers ) . And because a 2nd generation iPod stops at 4.2.1 you can't get the newest OS, because your device is old. Buy a new iPod , they have iOS5 preinstalled.

It seems you would like to transfer photos from your previous device to your iPhone 5S. I have linked to an article which may help you. You can transfer those photos to a Mac or PC, then sync them to your new device:

After you import your photos from your iOS device or Saved Photos, you can use iTunes to sync them back to your device.

Seems to be an Apple or FB app problem. Nothing you can do but wait for it to be fixed.

Right now, I feel like driving a nail through it.

Me again. I cleaned out the headphone jack with a q-tip soaked with rubbing alcohol. Most of the q-tip fibre was removed to be able to insert it into the jack. After pushing and turning fairly vigorously for a half minute, I pulled it out and a large piece of pocket lint came out with it as well. The Ipod now sounds excellent.
