Ipod touch version 4.2.1 wont update to newer version

My ipod touch version 4.2.1 won't update... I connect it to itunes and it says that it is up to date.... can anyone help ??

If you are using a recent version of iTunes and it says it is up to date, then it is.
An original iPod Touch can run iPhone OS 3.1.3
2G model: maximum iOS 4.2.1
3G model: maximum iOS 5.1.1
4G, 5G can run iOS 6.

I am gonna get a new ipod touch 8GB as part of the education deal when buying an imac before the 7th sept. I am wondering if i can exchange it for one of the new ones when they are announced and in stores a week or two later? If i bought a macbook pro in store or online i know i can exchange it within 30 days (by paying a price difference to the new model) or get a discount (if the prices for the old model went down within 30 days of me purchasing).
Would this apply to the ipod touch too, if i get it through the education store?

Sorry, but the iPod touch from the Back-To-School promotion could not be returned nor exchanged. The promotion is actually a rebate (unless you're referring to a promotion other than in the US); you choose your qualifying iPod model and purchase it, and will then get a rebate back of up to $199 (it varies depending on the model of iPod you choose).

Can not connect to the App store I keep getting a connection failure message. Mail and Safari are working fine. Also Iphoto wont update to newer version and itunes does open up properly.

I have recently bought a new imac. Imported all my files etc. from my G5 using Timemachine.
Iphoto requires updating but wont!
itunes wont open up properly the text is wrong!!
I keep getting a connection failure message when trying to visit the App store.
Safari and Mail are working fine.
My Apple Id is also fine as it works with my ipad.
Any suggestions?

Camera RAW - freezing while editing image and also wont update to new version

I moved from Mac 10.6.8 computer to a new Mac 10.10 computer. When I did, I transfer of all my files through data migration and it moved photoshop and bridge over for me without having to reinstall. Which was good because I do not have the disc anymore. My Adobe version is CS5. The problem I am having is that when I open large amounts of files within camera RAW (like anything over 15), the camera RAW program freezes. I then have to shut it down and reopen it again. I made sure to try other folders and files and it has happened over 6 times in different locations and different files and different amount of files opening. Any ideas? I noticed that maybe I needed to update my Adobe application because of the computer move, but when I went to the help menu and update, it goes through the entire process of updating all Adobe Applications and fails giving an error message only at the end saying, " There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later."

I suspect you have the original (1G ) iPod. those can only go as high as 3.1.3

Many developers when they updated their apps fro the newer iOSs dropped support for the older iOSs. That included Skype and other developers. Unless you have a copy of the apps version that was compatible with your iPod/iOS you are out of luck. Do you cave such a copy in a computer file backup??

No, I have not tried any backup tools. I havent restored my ipod back to factory settings yet and then sync everything back on it. I am kind of scared too because I dont want to lose anything. Hi, just now I've updated my iPod Touch 4th generation to iOS 6 and I backed it up on iTunes before. Now I want to restore that backup but when I plug it onto my iMac (running OS X 10.5.8), iTunes pops up a message that says: "The iPod "Trang's iPod touch" cannot be used be because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes". My iTunes right now is iTunes 10.6 (40) if that helps. I pressed iTunes > Check for Updates... then it says that I have the current version! I did the same with apple logo > Software Update, and nothing new. I then went on itunes.com and the newest version is 10.7, except I don't want to risk to download it and lose all my music files again, and it's not even compatible with my iMac!
Like said, my version cannot sync over wi-fi because iCloud also isn't compatible with Leopard. What do I do? Do I HAVE to buy an update for Snow Leopard then be able to sync my iPod? They don't even sell physical copies in stores anymore.. now I'm stuck with a clean state iOS 6 iPod. If I knew, I wouldn't have updated it. Is there any way to go back?

I'm having a similar problem, but moved on a few versions. I've been given an iPod nano, but when I try to add music to it I get an error message saying, "The iPod “iPod” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later" and inviting me to download the latest version. However, I'm using iOS 10.5.8, and the computer can't update to a newer version. That, in turn, limits me to versions of iTunes no later than 10.6.3.

Only iTunes purchased music can hava a cloud icon and then only if the music was purchased with the account listed in Settings>iTunes and App Store on the iPod.
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?
