IPod Touch very dim, no backlight.

Yesterday it was working perfectly but when I turned it on this morning I thought the battery had died and would not turn on, but I realized it was indeed on but no backlight. I have to hold it up to the light in order to see what's on the screen. I did the "5 R's" and it's still doing it. I've been searching on here for a while and can't seem to find a solution. Is my iPod broken? Is there anything I can do to fix it?..thanks in advance for the help!

I'm sure there are things you could do yourself, but that would void your warranty. Give Apple a call and explain the problem to them, see if you can get it serviced under warranty. Thats what I would do.

You're apparently in the hairy edge of ambient light being just barely dark enough to justify dimming the screen.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd gen. Backlight and App Problem

I bought an iPod touch 2nd gen. from a friend and it worked completely fine. But today, my iPod's backlight just randomly shut off. I can see the apps and everything works perfectly fine, the screen is just very dim. The iPod is jailbroken. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?? PLEASE HELP!
Also, another problem I am having is with apps. Some apps that I have had previously installed on my iPod and then deleted will not reinstall along with new apps I wish to install. I have tried installing them from iTunes on my computer, but that doesn't help either. If anyone has any answers to any of these problems, please help me.
    THANK YOU ((:
I do not know what operating system the iPod currently running on.

Exact same problem. I bought my ipod touch 2nd gen last december.I have always kept it in a plastic case for protection. Then the other day the button wasnt responding very well, I thought it was because the case wasnt fitting correctly. So today the button stopped working completely. My local retail store elcorteingles¿ i live in spain? are useless, theyll tell me to call apple, but because my 90 fredays are up i have to pay probally which is stupid considering my ipod is still under warranty. I also have never dropped my ipod ¿it cost allot of money so obviously ive been looking after it)
So I gues the best option is take it to your local retail store (if their usefull) or in my case ill have to send it away for maintanance.

  • Gen 3 iPod Touch - Very slow Wi-Fi

I recently bought an AirPort Extreme. After some difficulty, it seems to be working well with the iMac. But the iPod Touch gets very slow speed. I have very fast cable internet. Speedtest.net shows download speeds from 35 to 45 mbps when the iMac is connected directly to the cable modem or wirelessly via the AirPort.
But when I run the Speedtest.net iPod app on the iPod Touch, I get speeds ranging from 1 mbps to as much as 5 mbps on one occasion. This seems like an awfully wide range when my underlying cable speed is so high.
It does not seem to matter where the iPod is, from right next to the AirPort, to at the other end of the house or even in the basement.
Any ideas why the iPod sometimes gets 5 mbps and other times gets 1 mbps?
    Thanks, Daniel

Go to Mac611.com, tap on 'iPhone-related Sites' scroll down to 'iPhone Network Test' and see what your speeds are on both EDGE and Wi-Fi. What readings are you getting?

  • IPod Touch very warm with wifi enabled?

I noticed that with wifi enabled, my iPod Touch gets very warm to the, uh, touch. Also, battery life decreases significantly. Does this not happen for anyone out there? I can't tell if this is a defect or if this should be expected. I wonder if the device can overheat.

WiFi is very demanding on battery life regardless if it is a phone, computer or even the iPod. Be sure to turn it off if you are not expecting to be in a hotspot or don't plan on using it.

  • Why is join button on iPod touch remaining dim not allowing me to enter password?

    Just purchased IPOD touch.

Why does "join" button remain dim?

That means you did not enter the required number of characters for the PW.

  • IPod Touch very picky about WiFi networks

It appears that some of you have already noticed that the iPod touch does not play well on some WiFi networks that otherwise should not be a problem.
My own personal experience is this. My iPod touch works great on my home network as long as I don't have my repeater plugged in. It's all Linksys gear, probably what 80% or more of you have.
I have tried it on two networks outside my home so far, and neither one has worked, while my laptop has no problem at all with the same networks. I'm at a Best Western right now. My Ipod is behaving the same way it does when I'm home and my repeater is turned on. It sees the network, gets an ip address and appears to connect properly, but doesn't go anywhere when I try to use any of the apps, Safari, YouTube, or the iTunes store.
The other network I tried is at work. This requires WPA security. In this case, I can't get an IP address or connect at all. This after verifying the SSID and password many times. Once again, I have no problems with my laptop on this network either.
It appears that the iPod touch is in desperate need of a few bug fixes and compatibility improvements in this area. I hope Apple is working hard to deliver a firmware update that will correct these issues soon.

My home connection works great with just WEP encryption with a hidden SSID (yes I know it is weak but it is just a deterrent so the war driver will pass me up and go to the 10 other unsecured networks in my neighborhood haha).
That being said I have had issues with my companies wireless on campus. I found a trick around it though which might help.
If it has connected once before to the network in question and will not the 2nd or 3rd time:
    1.go to the settings
    2.then wireless
3.tell it to forget the network in question
4.wait in the wireless settings screen for it to see the network in question again and tell it to rejoin.
I guess this sort of flushes out any corrupted/ weird settings.
It has worked well for me.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd gen no backlight

Last night my battery died and I put it on a charger, the following morning I noticed my screen went dark. No backlight at all.
I tried settings > general > reset all settings
    I tried restoring my iPod
Nothing seems to work. When I restore my iPod it gives about 1 second of backlight and then goes dark again.
    Any suggestions?

Finally! Turning it off for about 30 minutes seemed to have worked.
So weird that that's the only solution. Resets did squat.

  • My ipod touch 4G dim screen

I was playing a game on my Ipod and all the sudden the Screen went really dim. The brightness is on full but the screen is really dark. I've reset the setting back to the factory settings. What else can i do to try to fix it ?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

  • VERY dim keyboard backlight

    Hi,
I'm new to BlackBerry--have only had my 8310 Curve for a couple of days--but have been really bothered by the lack of illumination behind the keyboard. I switched over from a Palm Treo where I'd never had the problem and could always type in the darkest conditions without a problem. I'm able to change the brightness settings for the screen but have found no such control for the keyboard.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or if perhaps my particular phone is defective??
    Thanks very much in advance!

  • Ipod Touch 2g Backlight Issue

Hello all. I have a Ipod Touch 2g with a backlight issue. The screen is readable and all functions except the backlight work fine, but no backlight. No water damage or recent drops. I did a restore and the backlight started working again, but after my next sync and reboot the backlight stopped working again. To me this does not seem like a hardware problem. Are there any known issues with the newest version of the OS that might have caused this? Any ideas on a fix?

Interestingly, I just tried to update my applications through the App store on my ipod. The connection failed and suddenly the backlight came back on. Nothing new happened. I didn't move it, tap it, or anything else. This is very odd.

  • Ipod touch only works on externial battery not charger or internial battery

the other day I was using my ipod touch 3 GEN and it went dead so I tried to run it off the charger cable to finish what I was doing.
It would not work on the charger cable, So I tried a second charger cable and no dice.  I have a IPAD that used the same charger cable and the charger cable worked fine on the IPAD .
I then tried to use an external battery I had for the. iIPOD and it came up with the apple symbol and then booted.  The IPOD seems to work fine on the external battery.
Is my battery in the IPOD bad? or what?

Initially as battery got lower the unit would not even operate so replaced the battery my self.  I found that the IPOD Touch (after the battery was replaced) ran as long as the battery charger was connected.  Funny thing when the battery charger was connected it showed full charge but after opening a few apps it showed 15% charge with the battery charger attached.  I removed the battery charger the IPOD touch died.  Then reattached it and the IPOD touch rebooted and showed full charge.  After a few minutes the battery charge shows 15%.
I opened the Touch up again and measured the battery voltage and externally the current that the touch drew and it was charging and after a while the Battery showed full charge.  when the screen showed 100% the voltage was max and when the screen showed 15% the voltage was the about the same on the battery.  I would expect the voltage to be lower if the Touch was at 15%.
The IPOD Touch 3 Gen works fine as long as I have it plugged in When I had it open it up again I measured the battery voltage with the charger attached and it not attached after a full charge and I don't remember there being much difference in the voltage in both cases.
At least after replacing the battery it works when plugged in.
I use the Touch on my breakfast bar plugged in all the time.  I am assuming there is a defect somewhere in the voltage regulator ckt inside the IPOD Touch , very strange.
Got lots of good years out of it, but am saving now for a new 64 GIG unit.

  • Ipod touch screen very dim wont light up

I can tell the ipod touch first generation is working. I can see the icons but the screen wont light up.Its very dim like when it going to sleep.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem, likely the backlight or it driver circuits. It might not be worth getting a 1G iPod fixed:
