IPod touch white screen after sleep?

After I put my iPod Touch to sleep, and I wake it up, I get a white screen that flickers from time to time, then just goes right back to sleep. I can sometimes coax it into coming up by sliding my finger over where the slid to unlock button would be, but that doesn't always work. I just bought it yesterday. Is this a widespread issue or should I just take it back?

Happens on my one aswell... but happens at any battery life level.
I don't know if it is me just me speculating or whatever but it seems to happen when i leave it for a few minutes on sleep... and so far it has only happened whilst listening to music.
Also, just for the record it is a week 38 model.
I might go into my local apple store on Saturday and see what i say, but sod's law says that when i try and show the genius it wont work.

My iPod Touch 4g has a frozen white screen after cancelling wifi update to ios 5.1. My update bar was frozen middle way through when doing wifi update to ios 5.1. So i reset ipod and it displayed an apple logo which faded into a white screen. not jailbroken.

I let battery drain, plugged into computer but when it booted up it booted to an apple logo with lines across the screen. It is frozen. iTunes did not recognise, it never showed up on iTunes. It is fading into a white screen.

  • Ipod Touch White Screen - Turned Off - Wouldn't charge or turn on

While I was happily playing one of the games on my Ipod Touch 2nd Gen, a white screen came out, with the games sound still present, but soon after the ipod touch just blanked out and turned itself off. I thought this was due to the battery running out of charge, so I tried charging it but it doesn't work. Even itunes isn't recognizing my ipod touch when I connect it to the macbook.
I tried the reset process but it doesn't work, and the hard reset as well as suggested by those people who experienced the same white screen problem, but still nothing happened.
Since the last week, the battery started not to hold charge even when I had just left the ipod sitting on my table for a day or two without any music or applications on.
This is the 2nd time this had happened, the first time my warranty was still valid, but 7 months after having it fixed (no longer under warranty now), it happened again, but this time it is worse as it wouldn't respond as well (the first time it just didn't hold charge).
Anyone know any other solutions apart from bringing it to the Apple Store? I wouldn't want to buy another ipod just yet since this is a 32GB one..hmm
Thanks for your help in advance

  • Ipod Touch - White Screen Lock Out - Apple response poor/process inflexible

    Hi
I have 2 Touchs and one has the random white screen issue. Screens goes grey`white and there's nothing you can do, till what seems like it needs to be recharged. i haven't had this happen when at home and near the 'master dock' .
I see thats its a prob that is more and more common, and have also seen on other forums that Apple are acknowledging it and in some cases have been providing freebies as sweeteners as well (allegedly).
So first - does anyone have any 'fixes' - other than what I have seen which is a replacement?
And secondly this is my 'Apple Service experience so far'
I called Apple UK support on Thursday morning, and pressed the options for Ipod and then Touch.
A woman answered and as soon as I told her my issue she advised she was IPHONE SUPPORT ONLY as that was section I had come through to and could not help me. I asked to be put through to relevant help section.
On hold for a few mins then line went dead.
Called back - making sure i pressed Ipod Touch options - in case it was user error first time - (it wasn't BTW) anyway got put through to IPHONE support again. This time the woman agreed to help, although i shall temper that by saying that my perception was that she started that day and had a script of 'if x do y' questions.
I explained the issue and that I had carried out web research. She was very polite but asked me questions I had already answered in my pre amble - i.e. screen is locked out, no response from buttons etc - but I was still asked what happens when you press the power button. Anyway I stuck with it - she then asked what firmware I had, and i advised I just upgraded to 1.2.
Ah thats the problem - you need to upgrade to LEOPARD (I have Tiger). That annoyed me as clearly thats rubbish and was really her ' ad libbing' I explained I had 2 touchs and other was fine.
She consulted a colleague and suggested I either send it in or make an appt at my local Apple store. Thats when it really went down hill...
More disappointed at the process, I called my local store (Regent Street - London) and was advised that the Touch would be replaced under warranty - but that I needed to make an appt to have that done, and no they couldn't make an appt on line (you are warned that up front in the recorded message before you get to speak to anyone). This I find odd - two people from Apple advise I can get a replacement under warranty, yet I have to make an appt - thats not good service.
As i am nearby, I decide to go to the Apple store anyway. I get same story and ask to speak to the manager. He is very well trained. He says all the diplomatic things, he agrees unit will be replaced under warranty, but says I have to see a technician - but I cant until tomorrow at earliest.
What then follows is a discussion about the process - his argument is that it allows the customer to attend at a time that suits them (but it suited me NOW - I was nearby). In reality the converse is true you can only chose a slot that suits apple.
The manager, stated that there are two diff stocks of goods. Items for sales and items for replacement. I suggested that he went to the replacement pile and provided one from that. NBo go - the technical dept could only do that.
I agree that booking for TECH SUPPORT is a great idea, but for a product replacement under warranty - especially when 3 people (and user forums) had advised this would be the case - this is not good service at all. The manager looked at me and uttered platitudes along the lines of ' thats your opinion', ' you are entitled to think that' - all of them verging on patronising. he even went as far to say that customers like being able to book a slot - erm - they have no choice!
He advised he 'would take my views on board' and would 'pass them on to the manager' - he was in fact the deputy manager. I left my details and explicitly asked for her comments - needless to say I am still waiting.
So i feel like I have fallen out with a close friend. I have been an Apple convert for 2 years now and this is our first major falling out. I am annoyed, as a customer, at being treated like this and forced into such a rigid system, and bitterly disappointed that a company that has such a a wonderful end user experience in terms of the products themselves and the sales side should treat loyal customers (in fact any customers) this way when trying to dal with faulty goods!
So, anyone have any thoughts - agree/disagree - who can I voice this to in Apple - the store doesn't seem to care past lip service!
I will also try to repost this on the general area if there is one

    Hi,
I used to work at an Apple Store so I have 2 summers of customer service experience under my belt. Let me just say that, yes, I empathize. Some of the store policies are ridiculous, which is partly why I left the company. Well, ok no, I just like to say that that's why I left. I'm actually a student.
Anyways, whoever told you that you can't make an appointment at the Genius Bar was WRONG. Shame on them. Go to this website (it's just apple.com/uk/retail (and Regent Street's site specifically) and on the right hand side there's a column for you to click Genius Bar Reserve.
    http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/regentstreet/week/20071118.html
Here's the entire gist of the store policy. The store is obligated to give you a new iPod Touch if there's a manufacturer defect within 2 weeks of your original purchase. You'll still need a Genius Bar appointment, but all they do is take a look at it, confirm that it's a defect, and they'll return it for you (& they'll label it as DOA - Dead on arrival), and give you a new one. Easy.
I'm guessing you are outside of the 14 day period which is causing you all the trouble. So now we're talking about the year warranty. So you got your replacement iPod touch. Should there still be a defect in your replacement, you still have 14 days from the day you received THAT iPod touch to get a new one. There's a chance that if you talk to the manager (a different one and there are several), he'll hook you up with a brand new iPod touch, without having to go through replacement protocol.
The manager you talked with sounds like a jerk to me, and believe me, I hate it when Apple employees try to think theyre "all that." We student employees used to laugh at how seriously some employees took it. But really, those guys are there to help you and give you solutions, at least that's the company line. With that in mind, demand them to do what's right. I wish I could actually help you. I used to take care of people in situations like these all the time.
    Good luck.

  • Ipod touch white screen. WSOD.

I was trying to open my iTouch's screen to fix the home button but then the screen get white and the locations that i was trying to open are black so is that the WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH or just unplugged cables under screen? PLEASE PLEASE help? There isn't any apple store near here only few authorized store and they fix it too expensive can i do it by my own??????????

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem. SInce there is no place near you try Googling for:

  • Help! Stuck on white screen after sleep mode and won't start again!

Bought the iMac last week, updated to 10.5.1. Worked well until this morning after I did a security update. Then put it in sleep mode - and basta! After I wanted to work on it again - it didn't restart. So, I had to switch off using power button, but it never started again and always got stuck on the white screen with the Apple logo and the rotating loop. Tried to repair permissions - cannot do it, as it says there is an error. Tried to re-install from DVD the Leopard while archiving the previous information - can't do either - says error. Now trying to re-install it again with an erase option. But this is not a good option, people! This is pretty very much disappointing, Apple!
    Can anyone help, please!

Boy that is way too bad.
Could you tell us what the error message was?
While sometimes the error messages are not very informative, other times they are. That might be a clue as to what is going on.
When you restart from the DVD you have the option to access Apple's Disk Utility and repair the disk.
You might want to try that, skip repairing permissions at this point.
You can also reset the computer by unplugging all cables including the power cable for at least 15 seconds and then plug in the power cable and keyboard and restart.
You can reset the PRAM by holding down the command-option - p - r keys simultaneously during restart and waiting for the startup chime then releasing those keys after the second chime to allow the start to continue.

  • White screen after sleep using 10.8.3

Ever since I upgraded to 10.8.3 using the Combo update, whenever my computer wakes from sleep, I get an all-white screen.  I can "select" parts of the screen using the mouse and the regular wallpaper comes into view.  At that point I can use the computer just fine.  I have re-installed the combo updtae and restarted the computer but the "white-outs" keep happeneing.  Any thoughts as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?  Thanks.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the grey screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
    Reset NVRAM/PRAM
Try an SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
    Reset SMC
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • IMac white screen after sleep since latest update

Ever since I updated our iMac to 10.8.3, we get a blank white screen when we wake it from sleep. We can "wipe away" the white to reveal the desktop by dragging the mouse across the screen. It appears to be a video memory issue.

I have the same problem ever since I updated to 1.8.3.
Have any of you heard about a possible way to fix this?

  • IPod Touch white screen of death

I've tried a hard factory reset and got nothing. I tried putting it in DFU mode and nothing. It shows up in iTunes I just don't know what to do to fix the white screen! I can hear the audible lock click and can swipe on the screen to unlock. But I can't see anything but white. What else can I do to fix it?

You will need a hardware repair. White screens can be caused by dropping device or getting it wet. If there is no accidental damage and under warranty, Apple should repair it for you. Contacts support or Head for an Apple store.

  • IPod 4th Gen has white screen after replacement, and restore

Okay. Here's the problem. A while ago, I dropped my iPod, and it's screen cracked. I've been living with it ever since perfectly, but just with a cracked screen. Now, I ordered a new screen, and I begin to replace it. I knew how, and like an easy job, I did it pretty quick compared to others. After both ribbon cables where in, I pressed the lock button, and my iPod had a white screen. I was a little worried about that, so, I tried to reattach the screen. Now it was just black, after even using the home and lock button restart method. Eventually I got it back up and to the white screen by draining the battery and recharging, and there I was again, stuck. I looked at some forums on the internet to try to see if anyone had my problem. After clicking on the first link, it turns out, alot of people had this problem as well as me. The solution they said was pressing the home button and lock button for about 10 or so seconds, and then it goes to the apple screen and is all better again. I tried it, and my home button broke. Great. So, now I had to use the little button that the home button was pressing down to try the solution. Tried it, and, nothing. Still the blank, plain, white screen. Looked some more and saw that pressing the home and lock buttons along with the volume up button worked for some people too. Tried it, worked just as good as the previous one. Nothing. I even tried some person's idea of doing home, then volume up, then lock, in different timed stages. Nothing. I also saw people begging for them not to restore their iPods and begging for a solution. I was fine with a restore, I just had games that I played on my iPhone as well. So, I went with it, and restored it, without any backups, just going to factory mode. Afterwards I heard my iPod make the iOS "plugged in" sound, and anxiously tried the lock button. Still had the white screen. STILL. Now, I'm here, begging for a solution like others, with an iPod that won't function properly. Can someone please help me?

No nothing like that happened, I'm sure, but I actually spent the day looking for a fix. Luckily, I had the idea of taping the spring down because I though the screen didn't touch it. Turns out I was right, but however, I found out that the screen I ordered was broken in a way, because it still had the white screen after the taping. Just to make sure, I tried the other screen to clarify if the taping worked or not. I did the home and lock button restart, and up popped the apple logo. So, that means that the screen I got from the seller was either a rip-off, or was just broken somehow in process of making, or delivering in some matter. Unfortunately, I think I can't ship it back unless for alot of money because the person I got it from comes from China. I live in the USA. So that's gonna be a matter to work with myself. Thank you for trying to help.
