My newish ipod touch will not hold a charge. I make sure all apps are closed, and turn it off and just sitting unused it will be dead within a day. Help?

If by "off" do you just mean asleep with wifi on?  That is not that unusual with iOS 5. To increase battery life see:

If only the battery is bad, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $79. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace your battery for less. Google for more.

  • Ipod 5G will not hold charge after 1.3 update

using itunes to update my 5th Gen Ipod to v1.3 last week, I am now unable to get the ipod to hold a charge.
when connecting normally, displays the message "please wait - very low battery"
and every so often it will attempt to reboot showing the apple icon (no backlight) but then goes back to the message again.
using the other suggestions to get to disk mode, itunes and Windows will recognize it, allowing it to sync.
When connected to wall adapter, it shows the fully charged symbol in the center of the screen.
Able to play songs/video only when connected to wall charger or car charger.
as soon as I disconnect it from a power source/usb, the battery indicator will quickly go down.
    -Win XP platform
-tried 2 alternate computers with good USB ports
-directly connnectd to USB (no hubs)
-tried the select-menu / play-menu combination (discussed in other topics)
-able to get ipod to sync with itunes only by going into disk mode
Former discussions indicate possible battery problem.
My concern is that it conveniently happened immediately after an update.
Therefore, leading me to think it has to do more with the update confusing the ipod's battery memory.

I had my iPod on my alarm clock today playing music and decided to try something different to get it to work..
I put it on hold before taking it off the dock. When I took it off, it showed a full charge. Skeptical, I turned it off and back on multiple times and still it showed a full charge! However, when I reset it using the middle & menu buttons, I saw the same low battery image and now I'm back to square one.
I know I'm probably going to have to buy a new battery, but I really don't think any of us should because this was obviously an error on Apple's part and if anything THEY should be the ones compensating for a new battery. I'm going to avoid buying a new one until I hear word from them about this because it's not right at all. For now, I'm going to have to stick to listening to it on its dock or with my car charger.

  • IPod touch will not turn on only 2 days old

I Bought my son an iPod touch for Xmas sit worked grate till tonight it just turned off and will not do anything now if we return it will all the money on the games he bought be lost or what?? Or dose any one know what is wrong so I can fix it

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • New iPod Touch will not fully charge

I bought 2 8 gig iPod Touchs for my kids this Christmas.
One of them is fine, but, the other seems to lose the charge faster. And, it shows the plug icon to show a full charge, but, when it is unplugged it immediately shows the battery slightly discharged.
If I return it to the store for a replacement, do I have to deactivate the old one from my itunes account?
If so how do I do that?
    Thanks
    Carlos

You may be correct in your evaluation of the charges of your iPods. However, just to be sure, do this with the problematic one:
    1. Discharge the battery to 20% or charge or thereabouts
    2. Recharge completely from a wall plug.
This should reset the charge levels for a fully functioning unit. Also, I'm sure you realize that internet use and gaming on the Touch can drain the battery more quickly than more conservative battery use.
If your attempts to solve the battery problem still fails, you should bring it back to the Apple Store for repair or replacement. You won't have to deactivate the problematic Touch; all the information should be on iTunes.

  • Ipod Touch will not start up. Smells bad and feels hot.

I connected my Ipod Touch to a computer without ITunes installed just to charge it. Suddenly, my Ipod turned off and now feels warm and smells strange.

    Hi,
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod?  Press/hold the home and sleep/wake buttons down until the Apple logo appears.
    Hope this helps!

can some one tell my why the ipod touch will not connect to the itunes store - just says it can not connect.

    Hello, rumisha.
Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot the connection to the iTunes store you are experiencing on your iPod Touch.  Scroll to the section labeled Troubleshooting on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.  Attempt to connect to another wifi network to see if the issue persists as this could be the cause.

Also, check the date and time.  I have attached a screen shot as this could cause an issue if not set correctly.

  • My iPod Touch will no longer charge from a wall socket, only my computer. HELP!

My 4th generation iPod Touch will no longer charge from a wall socket, only my computer. I tried buying a new cable and USB charging socket (and I bought one made by Apple), but that did not fix the problem. I restored it from iTunes, hoping that would work as well, but that failed. I am at my wit's end. Can anybody here help me? I've bought new equipment, tried rebooting, restoring, etc. but nothing so far has proven successful. If anyone's got a solution, please help!
    Thanks!

All I can suggest is the standared fixes. It seems very strange
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Bring the cable and Apple wall charger too.

mine did the same thing. What I did was hold the home and power button down for 10 seconds but that did not work. I figured out that I just had to hold them down for a long time like 15 to 45 seconds. Then it finally turned on. You may have to do it a couple of time. But if this does not work send it in to the apple company they fixed mine completly free they even sent me a box to send it in. I hope my answer helps you fix it.

  • My iPod Touch will not play through external speakers when it is docked.  It only plays through it's internal speaker.  All the other functions on the iPod can be controlled by the external speakers (volume, track, etc).  How do I fix this?

My iPod Touch will not play through external speakers when it is docked.  It only plays through it's internal speaker.  All the other functions on the iPod can be controlled by the external speakers (volume, track, etc).  How do I fix this?

    I would try in oreder:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • HELP!! Ipod touch will not charge or turn on

My ipod touch will not charge or turn on. I think the battery went dead, but now it won't even turn on or charge. My computer does not even recognize that it is plugged in. I have tried to charge it on other devices and get the same result. Can anyone help?

    TRY GEORGE GUERRERO'S ANSWER FIRST.
Plug it into the computer for about 15 minutes.
If it starts to turn on after about 15 minutes then unplug it.
As it is turning on hold down BOTH THE POWER AND THE HOME BUTTON on the itouch for 15 seconds, or until it flashes white or just turns back off.
Then RELESE THE POWER BUTTON BUT STILL HOLD DOWN THE HOME BUTTON.
    Then plug it back in.
The computer should reconise your ipod.
