IPod Touch won't reset even after holding down power and home button

My kid was playing the Very Hungry Cat App and all of a sudden the screen went white on my iPod Touch 4th Gen 32gb.
I tried holding down the Sleep/Wake button + the Home button for ten seconds and it just stayed white.  I tried plugging it into my computer and the computer doesn't recognize it was plugged in.  Lastly I tried doing the 3 second sleep hold, add 10 second hold on the home button, then release sleep and hold the home for another 20 seconds and it didn't work.
I'm currently letting it sit there hoping the battery dies and that works.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

You are doing the ony thing you can.  That let the battry fully drain. After charging for an hour try the reset, conncting to computer and placing in recovery mode. If still white then you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the gensiur bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Help please

    - After charging it for at least an hour try what you already tried.  You battery may be fully discharged.
    - If still problem, I would try restoring it via iTunes.  If the iPod does not show in iTunes try placing the iPod in recovery mode.  For recovery mode see:

  • Won't display main menu, even after holding on/off and home buttons simultaneously. Can't get beyond "connect to iTunes " which I can't do anyway.

After several days of inactivity iPad won't display main screen. When I first turned in on, it asked for a four digit passcode. I never had a four digit passcode. After entering "incorrect" passcode, it told me I could try again in 60 minutes. That was day one. Since then, it displays "connect to iTunes" which I can't do. I've tried holding on/off and homebuttons simultaneously. "connect to iTunes" keeps coming up. I'm stuck on that commmand.

Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

Hello skdog I possibly think your ipod touch is black because it has not charged. If your dock is broken it might just mean the dock will be broken and so might be the USB port. You should see an Apple shop nearby and hand it over and see what they can do. I hope this information works!

    - If in recovery mode the screen will have an iTunes logo with an USB plug.
    - Have you tried connecting it to your computer for a n hw and then see if it appears in iTunes. If it does restore the iPod.
    - If screen is blank, try placing he iPod in recovery mode and then restoring. For recovery mode:

  • My itouch is frozen on the black screen with the apple icon, I've done the whole reset holding the power and home button together but still won't work. Can someone please help!?

So I've done the whole hold the power and home button, it resets but still stays frozen on the black screen with the apple icon

Did you try to reset by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Does it work with headphones plugged in? If yes, did you try to play music in headphone mode, then unplug during playback and start playing music again after that?
If you toggle the volume, can you see the slider moving up or down?

  • My iphone won't switch on. I've tried holding the power and home button more than 30 seconds up to a few minutes but it didn't switch on and went straight to recovery mode. It died of a low battery and i already fully charged it i checked with my itunes.

i really need help here. I have only used my iphone for a month. my iphone won't switch on. it died of a low battery and i've already fully charged it and usually before it even fully charged, it will turn back on right but in my case nothing happened. i've tried holding the power and home button for 30 seconds and up to 2-3 minutes but no logo appear. it went straight to recovery mode. there's nothing wrong with my cable, i checked with itunes and  this happened once a week ago but it did switch back on after i tried a few times but now it just won't switch on. i also have problems with my screen as there's some noises to the screen (i hope you get me) and when i turned the camera on, it was as if the whole screen is shaking. i'm currently studying in the middle east and there's no apple store here so i cannot use my warranty. i will only be back home in summer. please help me what should i do to at least switch my iphone on first.

I did a little bit of experimenting. I have an iPad original versions myself. I took it out of the box knowing that I haven used it in months and I expected the battery to be dead and sure enough the battery was as dead as I imagined it would be. For the first 30 minutes I experienced exactly what you are experiencing, but then the iPad suddenly powered up on its own (like it does when plugged into the charger) and I am using it now to type this response to you.
My point is that I am starting tothink that your battery has suddenly died on you for some reason or you have a hardware problem now. I would still try leaving the iPad charge for a while longer - maybe even overnight - and then try again in the morning. Unplug the iPad and try resetting with the home and sleep buttons. Try plugging the iPad in again. Unplug it, try restarting again. Let it charge for a while again.
After trying something like that, if it still will not start up, then I think it's time for a trip to an Apple Store and see what the Apple Techs think.

    Restore your phone!!!
You may be wondering by now, iTunes is not detecting my phone, How do I do that?
Answer:- Just disconnect your phone from the computer. keep Itunes open on the PC. While holding the home button of the iphone plug the phone back in. Itunes will pop a message stating it has detected a phone in recovery mode. just follow the on screen instruction then to restore your phone. • I phone crashed and won't start up, even after connecting it to my mac, and tried the 10 sec. holding the power and home button

my iPhone 4 crashed and the screen froze, so i pushed the power key to turn it off. But it won't start up again. I tried the 10 sec. holding with the power and home button, and connected it to my laptop, but it still won't start up. what should i do?

Is there anything at all on the screen? Try this procedure:
Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • Hold down sleep and home buttons to get power back to iPad 4 but nothing happens

My iPad 4 was purchased 11/2013.  It's in pristine condition.  A few weeks ago i opened a email from a known source.  The screen vertical hold went loopy and then powered-off.  I held the sleep and home buttons and restarted and everything good.  Weeks later IOS 7.0.2 update loads. The next day I'm in my FaceBook sending a message and the iPad does the same crash.  Screen flips out, goes to blue then black.  When I try to reboot with sleep and home button, Apple logo appears, stays locked on screen.  I end-up at Apple Store.  They do a restore from a previous version.  Go home and same sceanrio.  Back to Apple Store.  This time they restore to like new system.  I'm going to have reload all apps and books, etc., - no big deal, but I have to charge battery to do.  I put on charger.  Few hours later when I take off the charger the iPad will not power on at all.  Any ideas out there?

You could try restoring the device again on your own and see of that does any good, but Apple has the capability to restore software by more sophisticated means than we every day users have. My point is that if it were me, I would take it back to the same Apple Store, with the receipt, explain the situation and politely start pushing for a replacement device.
This one seems like it will just cause problems for you moving forward and while it's still well within warranty limits, return it.
