Ipod touch won't restore, turn on or update

My ipod touch will not restore.I use it only for music and my 6 year old plays the games. It was dead flat after a long trip yesterday and when I tried to charge it nothing happen. I then plugged it into the computer and a msg came up that it was in recovery mode and needed to be restored. When I pressed restore is comes up with another msg to say "software for this Iphone is not currently available update the latest version of itunes and try again" I checked to make sure I have the latest version of itunes which I do. It comes up as an Iphone which it isn't. My husband has the iphone and can plug his phone in no worries. I thought it wasn't because I don't plug into itunes very often and my ipod was behind the times in updates but when I rang Apple they are saying I have a version of the software to advanced for itunes ***!!!! Have no idea how that happen Help

  • 4G iPod Touch won't restore.

    I bought a 32g iPod Touch 4g last night.
I was using it for an hour or 2, downloading iBook, checking Facebook and the camara when it froze and restarted.
Now, when I plug it into my computer, iTunes tells me it needs restoring, so I click restore. It says Extracting software or something and then an error message appears.
    Unknown error (9), I think.
And now I can't use my Ipod at all. It won't turn on (other than showing me the Apple logo and the iTunes logo with a USB cable image), won't restore and just plain won't respond.
    Any help is appreciated.

Download RecBoot and try and kick it out of recovery mode.

  • 4th Gen Ipod touch won't restore.

I have a 32g 4th generation iPod touch that I got for Christmas. At first like 4 days after I got it, it would not turn on. So I did the whole home and sleep button together. After that it was like each four days I had to do it. Recently til this week I had to do it at least two times a day. Now my computer won't even recognize it. When I restore it, it cant because of error 2009. I did everything that the apple site told me to do. I even did it in my brother's computer which he uses to update his iPhone. Yet it gave me the same error 2009. Is my iPod the one with the problem? Anyone else have this problem. If so how did you solve it? Or do I have to call costumer service?

The past week I have had to restore it each til this Friday when it stop restoring it. A window pop out say it could it couldn't because of 'Error 2009'. I have done the usb, removed all my security, and checked my usb ports. Nothing is working so far. I even changed computers but it gave me the same error.

  • My iPod Touch won't restore on iTunes! It's stuck on recovery mode and I can't get it to restore after I updated the software! Help?

Okay, so I got an iPod touch, 4th gen, 32gb, brand new and running perfectly fine two years ago. Used it for about six months, lost it, and finally found it again a month ago tucked away in my recliner. It was as dead as a doornail, but I had it charged up and ready to go in a few hours.
So I wanted to get a special app for my iHome, as well as spend all of my accumulated iTunes cards that were previously useless due to the fact that I had lost my iPod for a year and a half. The app store said I had to update to the current software to download anything new, so I did just that about half an hour ago, updating to the latest version of iTunes and downloading the new software for my iPod like I was supposed to.
Only when I applied it to my iPod, it went into Recovery Mode as expected, but I can't restore it! I've made sure there's no extra USB attachments in it, my firewalls are currently down to get around this stupid thing (just turned them back on because it wasn't working), and feeling like I just let all this money slip down the drain.
If you have any relevant advice, please help! I'm running on Windows 7 with the current version of iTunes (64 bit). Help!

  • IPod Touch won't charge, turn on, or do anything.... HELP?

    Hi
    I have a 1st Gen iPod Touch
    the problem was
    it had 10% power left
so i charge it with an AC wall charger
    after about 2 mins
    the ipod shutdown immediately
    like without the circling thing
    then i unplug the ipod
plug it in my laptop (a PC, vista, with itunes)
    nothing happen
i tried holding the Sleep/Wake button & Home for 30 secs, Failed
i tried holding Sleep/Wake button to turn it on, but again failed
So i notice it has this weird respond
the wall charger has a little light, whenever it's plugged in, it green.
whenever it's charging something, it turns red
so even though i plug my itouch for hours, it still green
    and the weird thing is
after i unplugged the wall charger with the itouch still connected
the green light is still on
so i assumed the itouch gave out power
i'm a software guy but no electronic stuff guy
so i think somehow the circuit thingy in the battery has been switched from getting energy to giving out battery
is there anyway i can fix this?
the bad thing are it won't turn on, it won't charge
    contact me at [email protected]
if you have any problem reading this
because i think it's confusing at first

    It sounds like something fried.
If you're lucky you just need the battery replaced.
If it's still under warranty send it to Apple if it isn't then is there an iPod Doctor where you are ?
That battery replacement out of warranty was running around $75 when I last checked but if the charge is more you'll have to weigh what ever the repair cost is against buying a refurbished Touch.

  • My Ipod Touch won't restore after full reset!!! please help fast!!!

My Ipod touch 3g 8gb on 3.1.3 got some major problems recently. When I wanted to take a snapshot it just doesn't appear in photos. When I wanted to save an image from Safari it doesn't appear in photos. Then I got fed up and pressed Reset Settings. That finished and the photos problem wasn't solved. Still. I chose Reset all settings and content. I confirmed it and Ipod Touch was doing it for like 20-25min. After that it just won't start up. I am trying to restore it right now with iTunes and again to 3.1.3 (3.1.2 or other doesn't work). I clicked restore, everything went fine but now, it is stuck at like 95% and won't move. I really don't know what I did wrong and what I have to do to fix it. Any suggestions?

  • Ipod Touch won't restore after memory cleared

    Hi,
i have an ipod touch 2g that was on 3.1.2 software, and i needed to clear memory and start over. i clicked the option "erase all content and settings" in the settings menu of the ipod.
after it had finished clearing the memory i plugged the ipod back into the computer and put it into the mode with the cable and the itunes icon (the mode that it was in when it came in the box) after it went into that mode it showed up on itunes as a "device that needs to be restored", so i clicked restore, it extracted firmware, and now has been stuck on "waiting for ipod" for 10 hours, with the ipod's screen showing an apple and an empty loading bar (has stayed empty for 10 hours)
    anyone help?
    thanks in advance

    Welcome to the discussions,
Did you try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If this does not work, locate the *.ipsw firmware file on your computer and copy it to a save place and delete the original file, leave the folder empty and don't delete it. This will make itunes get a new copy from Apple instead of using the one stored on your computer, maybe it got damaged. Then try again to restore.

  • IPod Touch won't restore on new Computer

    Hi,
I recently bought a new desktop (ASUS All-in-One) I loaded the latest version of iTunes but when I tried to sync my iPod Touch 4th generation with it it said it had to be reset. No problem there, I hit the restore button and now my iPod is stuck in restore mode and I keep getting a 3014 error. I have Googled the problem and tried all the fixes suggested. Nothing has fixed it.
The Network Connectivity diagnostics are fine, the firewall (Comodo) has been checked out and it isn't the problem (I even completely uninstalled it), the modem is not the problem either (it works with my other laptop).
I am at my wits end. Hope someone can help.

  • 1st gen ipod touch won't restore.

I have a 1st gen ipod touch that I've been having minor troubles with (trouble syncing from time to time, album artwork is mixed up etc) and decided to do a restore. I followed the directions to the letter, and everything was working fine until after my ipod was wiped clean. Now the ipod shows up in itunes, but I can't access anything that I normally can. the ONLY option I have is to eject it. I'm really worried that I'll never be able to use my ipod again, which is kind of a big deal at this point. Help?
-- I am running OS10.5.8 on my macbook.

I'm starting to wonder if there's not some sort of issue brewing here. I had roughly the same thing happen to my 1G iTouch, though it happened gradually -- first, it wouldn't recognize the third-party car chargers I own, but worked okay on the computer. Then, after a couple months, iTunes stopped recognizing it. I had to do a complete restore to get it functioning again, and I had to restart/reboot the computer and the iPod, with nothing connected to the computer but the iPod, the keyboard and the mouse, and a totally clean re-download/install of iTouch firmware 3.1.2.
Things worked fine for about a month -- until last night. I followed every troubleshooting step: reinstalling Apple Mobile Device Service, repairing permissions, powering down completely for 60 seconds, and disconnecting everything from USB except the mouse, keyboard, and iPod. It took about 9 tries before it finally went through with a restore.
I unplugged it, used it for about an hour or so today, then tried to plug it back into the computer. It recognized it at first, but then flashed back and forth between the battery screen (showing that it's connected/syncing) and the regular wakeup screen (with the unlock slider), giving me multiple "failed connect" messages in iTunes. I'm about to start the whole rigmarole again, it looks like.
Is anyone else having these kinds of repeated problems?

  • IPod Touch won't charge/turn on even after resetting it and charging it for hours. No water or heat damage. Worked fine yesterday.

My iPod Touch was working fine yesterday and there is no heat or water damage. Then, it died, like it normally does after it's used for a long period of time. So, I went to charge it in a wall outlet (like usual) and the battery symbol with the lightning bolt came up. I figured it would just have to charge for a few hours. So, I let it charge, and when I disconnected it, it said it needed to be plugged in to charge... it was like I hadn't charged it at all. Like I said, there is no water or heat damage. And I haven't dropped it either. I tried to reset it and I tried putting it in rice in case some mysterious water damage happened that I didnt know about. That didnt work. Now it wont be recognized while connected to the computer or the wall outlet. I even tried different outlets and cords and plugs. I don't have a local Apple Store that can repair it. Someone told me it may need a new battery, but I dont have the money to get it sent out to be fixed and get a new battery and I cant afford to take it apart myself and replace the battery and then end up breaking the whole iPod. I need help here! I don't know whats going on or what could have caused it or what I can do to fix it. If anyone has any solutions for me, please answer. Thank you.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
If still problem your iPod needs service.

  • IPod touch won't connect to iTunes after update

I updated my iPod touch but now it won't connect to iTunes, all I get is the connect to iTunes screen. I followed all the directions for the Apple support including shuting down my iPod, uninstalling all Apple programs from my computer, restarting my computer and reinstalling iTunes, as well as "using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows 7," but nothing has worked. Is there anything else I can do?

This is a step they should make MUCH easier to find for Ipod users. Here's the link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538?viewlocale=en_US
I don't know how directive the link is, but the short and easy of it is this:
    1. Go to your device manager
    2. Click 'View' and select Devices By Connection
    3. Make sure ACPI x64 (or 32) - based PC is expanded (Windows 7 users)
    4. Scroll down until you see 'USB Composite Device'
       - you should see Apple Mobile Device (recovery mode) in there or something similar
    5. Right click the composite device and choose Update Driver Software
    6. DO NOT automatically install software; choose 'browse my computer' instead
    7. Choose to pick from a list of devices on your pc
    8. Click "Have Disk" and browse your computer to this address:
         C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    9. Double click the usbaapl.inf file (it may have 64 next to it)
    10. Click OK and continue the install process, including the 'Restore step when iTunes opens...AND THAT'S IT!!
Your iTunes will take all the appropriate steps (5-10 minutes) to restore your iPod. If I missed anything let me know. Otherwise, pass this on to your friends as Apple has made it inherently difficult to hunt down. Good luck!!

  • Ipod touch unable to restore after trying to update software

I tried to update to the latest software for the ipod touch 2g today. It didn't work and i got an error message. Then i tried to restore the ipod with the latest version of itunes, and it still didn't work??
    What do i do?
I am using a windows xp machine

I had the same problem, this is how I fixed it...
I had to go to a completely new computer (my work one) that didn't have iTunes on it, install iTunes 9.0, then do the restore...now it works...
I would assume that if you removed every last vestige of iTunes from your computer it would act the same way. I think you would have to delete and completely remove the iTunes files from your user folder on Windows machines (AppData or LocalData, the hidden folder with the iTunes info in it...)
