iPod touch won't charge at all - think it's the port on the ipod itself not the charging cord - any suggestions?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod touch won't start, just shows screen saying to connect to itunes.

Ipod touch won't start or charge, or do anything other than when I plug it in, the screen shows a picture of the usb cord connecting to itunes. When I tried to connect to itunes using my computer, nothing happened. Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Apps from Ipod Touch won't start

    Hello everyone,
Since about a day and a half I have been having problems with my Ipod Touch. All of the apps I got via the App store fail to start up. That is, they start up, the opening screen of the app quickly flashes and I am returned to the home screen. This ONLY goes for apps I installed myself, i.e. Internet, the App store itself, email and the like all work properly.
I believe it was tuesday night that I updated to the new operating system for iPod Touch, iOS 4.3.3 (I have checked and my Ipod is running on iOS 4.3.3, just not sure when I installed it...). Wednesday morning I used a few apps and they worked fine, but in the afternoon none would open anymore. I tried switching it off and on again a few times, hooked it up to iTunes and searched for updates, but nothing helped. Since all apps that are downloaded have this problem, I doubt removing and re-downloading all would work. That'd take ages too, so I hope someone can help me with how to fix this? By the way, it is thursday night as I write this, the problems have been going on for over a day now
    Thanks for the help already
    Erik

    - Try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next download/install a free app.  Others have said that that worked.

  • Ipod Touch won't boot at all

Last night, I plugged my Ipod touch into a radio system to listen to music falling asleep. When I woke up this morning, I grabbed my ipod and it wouldn't open, just had a black screen. There is no apple logo when I press the power button or "plug to itunes" icon, when I plug it in it doesn't show it's charging (so I'm not even sure if there's battery in it at this point, it might as well be at 0%), if I hold down power and home button for 10+ seconds nothing happens, if I hold down power button nothing happens, you get the point: it simply won't open. Also tried everything while it's plugged in to my computer with iTunes open.
The only thing which produces a reaction is when I enter DFU mode while plugged in. I see this message on iTunes: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." And it shows "iPod Touch" is connected and in recovery mode. I have the option to restore it. Nothing happens on the ipod screen itself though, it's still black. I click "Restore iPod", then it gives me a confirmation message (this will erase everything...) and I click restore and update.
Now I'm doing this in real time as I'm writing this, usually what happens when I click restore is it starts extracting packages, then preparing iPod for restore and after 10 seconds or so gives me 2006 error with "can't be restored". Apparently this is due to USB cable, so I tried it with another cable, same thing happened; also tried both cables in a different USB port, same error.
I also got error 1604 one time, also related to USB issues.
This time around I got 3014 (first time I see this). According to Apple, "If iTunes can’t communicate with the update server, you may see one of these messages".
It tells me to update iTunes which I did reluctantly since I hate the new look of iTunes (had restored to previous version with time machine backup). Then it tells me to look for the host files; I don't see this file in Terminal like it wants me to do. So at this point I'm at a loss what to do. I'm starting to think my iPod is basically dead, but then why does it even tell me it detected and iPod in recovery mode?
Also just tried restoring again after updating iTunes, error 2006 again.

    Check your USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4005, 4013, 4014, or “invalid response."
If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you may be unable to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
    Try a different computer.
If necessary, resolve any further issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you're still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Ipod touch won't start up beyond apple on screen, just keeps flashing.  Tried restoring but I continually get error messages but none of the solutions work.  Help?

My Ipod touch stays on the start up screen with the apple and just blinks.  I have tried all suggested
resolutions but none work.  I have tried to restore it but continually get error code 1611 or 9.  I have
tried all of those solution to no avail.  Any other suggestions?

If you tried all the suggestions of:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
You likely have a hardware problem since the article says a possible cause of the 1611 error is a hardware problem.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod touch won't start

After upgrading to the 2.0 update, my iPod touch started getting really slow, and eventually crashed - it shut itself down and did the Apple logo thing. But it stayed on the Apple logo forever, never moving on. I tried restarting it again, turning it off, plugging it into a dock or computer, and everything else. As it crashed, it disappeared from iTunes, and as it didn't even get up to the Slide to unlock screen, it didn't appear in iTunes.
I restored it by holding down the home button, and did a clean, fresh install. Everything seemed to be working fine. Annoyed that I'd lost everything, but happy that it was working. Then, today, I had just finished syncing in iTunes, and it said 'iPod OK to remove', so I did, but the sync screen was still on the iPod, even after I removed it from the PC. I did the power + home button restore, and guess what - it got stuck on the Apple logo, exactly the same as last time. I know what to do now, and I have it backed up, but it's still going to take me 1/2 hours to re sync everything.
I am confident that there is some problem with the 2.0 update - I have never had this problem before. It is impossible for me to cope with the re syncing of ALL content if it simply freezes, but I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

It's not a particular application. The 2.0 firmware is a total disaster. I've had my iPod Touch since March, and I never once had to restore it in four months of running the 1.1.4 firmware. Ever since I updated to 2.0, I've had to restore it completely at least a dozen times. I have repeatedly lost all of my data and settings. The only way to avoid the problem completely is not to install or use ANY applications except the default ones.
If you do choose to use other applications, you have to exercise extreme caution at all times, but even that might not be enough. Here are a few tips...
    1. Never install ANYTHING through the App Store on the iPhone/iPod itself. Not even updates. App installs on the device frequently get stuck, may never finish installing, and once that happens, you're hosed. You'll have to restore and reinstall everything again. All installation should be done through iTunes. Never, ever use the App Store on the device.
    2. Never cancel a backup or sync (by clicking the X in the iTunes window). I realize the backup process takes forever, but if you cancel it, you'll end up with a corrupt backup, and if you try to restore from it, it will not work. The worst part is, it deletes your previous backup before starting the new one. So, if you cancel the backup, you will not be able to revert to a previous backup either. You will lose all of your data in all of your applications, and there is no way to get it back.
    3. After completing a successful backup (during the sync process), you can disable backups so you don't have to sit through the whole process everytime you sync. To disable backups, paste the following command into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
However, you will want to turn it back on and do a proper backup at least once a day, if you're using any apps that store data that you don't want to lose. You can do so by changing "true" to "false" in the above line, like so:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool false
After doing this, run a sync in iTunes, and it will do another full backup. Then you can disable it again.
    4. Applications are going to crash. The 2.0 firmware is extremely buggy and it affects all third-party applications. Don't blame the apps. Don't bother removing and reinstalling apps. They are going to crash anyway. Sometimes it will just return you to the home screen with all of your app icons. But usually it will cause your iPhone/iPod to spontaneously reboot, and you'll have to stare at the Apple logo for at least a minute or so while it reboots.
Apple is furiously working to fix these and other issues in the 2.1 firmware update, which is currently in beta. Until that update has been released, and confirmed to have fixed the many, extremely serious problems in 2.0, the iPhone OS platform should be considered unstable and unreliable. If you decide to install any applications, you have to accept the risk that the entire device may freeze and completely stop working at any time. Even if you follow all of my advice, it might happen anyway.
So my final advice is this: If you absolutely need your iPhone/iPod to work, and you don't want to risk having to restore/reinstall everything all over again, DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ON IT. Not through iTunes, not through the App Store on the device. Use the built-in programs only, and wait for the 2.1 firmware.

  • My iPod touch won't start up/charge/sync

on what i think is the ipod touch 3rd gen (if that helps) when i plug it into my laptop the black screen with the apple sign comes up as if it were to start up as normal, however it just stays on that same screen for as long as it's plugged in, it then says it has no power, also it my itunes also doesnt 'see' my ipod, HELP?

To get iTunes to see the iPod try:
    - A reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in recovery mode.  For recovery mode:

  • Ipod Touch Won't Start after Latest Upgrade

I was just prompted to upgrade my Ipod Touch 4g to the latest version of software. It went through the download process and started to install the software. At the end of the installation I got an error message that said something to the effect that the software could not finish installing. Now my screen is stuck with the usb cable and the itunes logo and I can't reset my Ipod. I have pressed the ON/OFF button with the HOME key button for ten seconds and I can't get rid of the usb cable and Itunes logo.
Do I have any options here? My Ipod is less than 3 months old.

You can use RecBoot to get it out of recovery mode or try doing a manual install, as  outlined in link below.
