Ipod touch working with a computer using linux Ubuntu os

I own an Ipod touch and I am thinking of buying a Dell laptop with a linux Ubuntu operating system. Does any know whether I can down load music off of a CD onto this type of computer and then load it onto my Ipod?

You'll have to search the Linux forums.
It may be possible - many things like this are done - but Apple does not support it.

  • Make an iPod touch work with new computer?

Today I formated my drive on my homebuilt Windows computer. I backed everything up to an external hard drive including all of the iTunes backup and library files. Now when I plug my iPod touch in it wants me to erase all the purchases and sync it with a "new computer". How do I get it to work right? I don't want to have to restore. I am in the middle of a lot of games and for the ones that don't have cloud sync I would have to restart at the beginning. By the way, does iCloud back up all those files? If I restore my iPod from a back up from iCloud will all my games be right where I left off?

Why does it take so long for people to reply now?! I used to get answers within about 15 minutes! With all my other questions! COME ON PEOPLE!

Apple has just not got around to revising the documentation to reflect Win 8. Just use instructions for Win 7

Does the Ipod touch work with airplay mirroring?

No. Only iPhone 4S and iPad (2nd or 3rd Gen) as it requires more processing power. You can still use airplay with your device though.

Is your Touch running iOS 5.n? If so, you can administer the AX with the AirPort Utility which you can download directly from the Apple App Store.

  • Ipod Touch works with APPLE and not WINDOWS

I have a first generation touch. Yesterday the PC crashed while syncing with the iTouch. After that it would not see the iPod any longer. However the APPLE I have sees it just fine. I have gone through the detailed uninstall and re install itunes process several times and tried cleaning the registry - still nothing http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 .
The PC based iTunes syncs with another 2G and a nano and a shuffle just fine. Windows also sees the 1G Touch..... ideas other than moving my library to my laptop? I have also reset the 1G and upgraded the software now to the latest firmware. It still works with the APPLE but not with the PC. I am sure this is a driver issue but I cannot get it fixed.

Well I happened on the answer after doing a lot of searches. Why doesn't apple post the fix on their site. This problem is due to their installation package for Vista and the fix does not require all the uninstalls and re installs you have been asked to do so many times....
    THANK YOU BeeBopp

This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"
    2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account
    3. Single left click on START
    4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)
    5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)
    6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)
    7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)
    8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties
    9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab
    10. Single left click on " Update driver "
    11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista
    12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown
    13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "
    14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.
    15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.
    16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.
    17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.
Hope this works for you as it did for me and several others.

  • Does an older iPod Touch work with 10.4.10?

I see that the new iPod Touch requirements are for 10.4.11 and I am wondering if anyone knows if I could still use a second generation or even third generation if I bought it off of ebay? I just can't upgrade past 10.4.10 without making software break so I am curious at what version I would be safe with this OS. Thanks

    Hello Glen,
According to this Apple support document providing technical specifications and minimum requirements for the second generation iPod touch, it will work on 10.4.10 or later. So this would work for you.

However, any newer models will not.

  • Ipod touch working with only some earbud brands?

All of a sudden, the Sennheiser earbuds I've been using when I run for about a year started making tracks sound..."robotic" or with an exaggerated echo. I tried my Apple earbuds and it worked fine as well as a pair of Sony earbuds and no problem. I thought it was my Sennheiser's that were faulty and grudgingly purchased a pair of  yurbuds to replace them. Same symptoms as before with the Yurbuds...Robotic and/or echo. Could this be the new OS? Could Apple have made it so that you could only use apple earbuds? They would not be so relentless would they?

I just got a beats audio headset and it works absolutely great with my iPod touch. I suggest for you to buy one as well.

  • IPod Touch works with USB 1.0, why not iPad

I just received an iPad as a gift but I have an old 17" iMac with USB 1.0 and it's not syncing with iTunes to setup. My iPod Touch syncs perfectly with 1.0, so why not the iPad? If it won't work, i guess I'll return the iPad and get credit towards a new iMac.

Read the system requirements for the iPad to see if your machines have the correct OS and iTunes version.

  • Will an iPod Touch work with the iPod Hi Fi???

    Hi
I want to upgrade my iPod Classic to an iPod Touch and was wondering if the Touch will work okay with the Hi Fi???
    Thanks.

i have both the ipod touch and the ipod hi fi (the discontinued one) and yeah they work great together.. too bad it seems that last software upgrades from Apple to the itouch removed its capacity to have the "speakers" settings tab in the main option menu =(

  • IPod not working with my computer

I hadn't upadated my iPod in around a month when i noticed that some of the songs wouldn't play at all, some would play for a little while then skip to the next one, and then the ones that would play took a while to start up. I tried to update my iPod but iTunes didn't recgonize my iPod. My desktop would show that there was a "Mass Storage Device" but it would not stop the device so that i could safely remove it. After fiddling around with my computer nothing was happening, so I unsafely removed it by just plain out pulling the USB plug. Then it showed to apple symbol and then the folder with the exclamtion mark. Then i reset my iPod and over the course of trying to fix it i reset it about 5 more times. I reinstalled iTunes and iPod updater. I restarted my computer. I put my iPod in disk mode and then plugged it in. My computer showed that there was a "Mass Storage Device" but iTunes didn't recgonize the iPod and when i clicked on My Computer but it didn't show up. Then when i turned my iPod off and on again it turned on like it normally does with the same problems i said above. I then tried to restore my iPod by using the iPod updater. I plugged my iPod in and then I opened the updater. It says initializing and then just sits there untill it doesn't respond. My iPod just says "Do not Disconnect". Any help could be appreciated. Thank you

I got the same error, still cant fix it. Try this?
Here you go, the definitive guide to fixing these chugged-up iPods. I had the exact same problems described below, and it took a variety of methods to fix.
Attempt the following methods at your own risk! You will loose all your stored music and settings on your iPod. Apple's Support articles are still the best way to safely restore a non-functioning iPod. Remember, the best way to repair a damaged or non-functioning iPod is through your authorized Apple retailer or through Apple's Mail-in support services.
Step .5 - Plug iPod into wall adapter and let sit overnight (charges and attempts to start all night)
Step 1 - Completly uninstall iTunes and iPod updater, restart your computer.
Step 2 - Reinstall iTunes and iPod updater (in that order). Restart your computer.
Step 3 - Holding iPod perpendicular to the ground, with the bottom of the iPod closest, drop the iPod from approx. 4 inches onto a soft carpeted surface. (you can start by dropping it onto your bed or pillow first)
Step 4 - Start iPod (press menu button). If iPod fails to start, repeat step 3 and 4 with increasing heights (2 inch increments)
Step 5 - Once iPod has started into the menu screen, verify that there is no (or little) disk damage by playing a song or two.
Step 6 - Place iPod onto a flat surface face up. Put the iPod into Disk mode using the following procedure:
    i. Turn hold on, then off
ii. Press and hold Menu and Select buttons simultaneously for approx 6 - 10 seconds. Release when display 'flickers' and goes blank
iii. When the Apple image displays on the screen, immedeatly press and hold the Play/Pause and Select buttons. Continue holding until the iPod enters Disk Mode, signified by an "OK to Disconnect" prompt and a check-mark.
If you are attempting to connect your iPod to a Toshiba laptop/Tablet PC, then complete the steps outlined in Apple Support Article 300836 - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
Step 7 - Plug in your iPod using the supplied FireWire or USB cables. Allow Windows to recognize the iPod and allow iTunes to open. This may take up to 2-4 minutes. A rotating arrow will appear in the iPod screen at the upper left-hand corner. This signifies your computer is communicating properly with the iPod.
Step 8 - When iTunes window appears, it may prompt you if you want to associate your iPod with the library. Cancel all prompts and close iTunes.
Step 9 - Open the iPod updater, and click restore.
Step 10 - When the restore is complete, the iPod will display an image of the adapter plugging into the wall. Disconnect your iPod from your computer and plug it in with the included power-supply and FireWire cord.
Step 11 - The iPod will boot up normally, showing a progress bar at the bottom. The language select screen will soon show up afterwards.
If you are attempting to connect to a Toshiba computer, complete the steps "Re-enable high-speed interfaces" in Apple Support article 300836 - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
Step 12. Plug in your iPod normally. Allow iTunes to boot up. (This could take another 2-4 minutes) A prompt will appear asking you what you would like to name your iPod. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Congradulations! You have successfully fixed your iPod. Once again, attempt these methods at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damages or loss of data incurred by the following steps. An Apple Retailer is still the perferred way to repair your iPod.
