IPod tracks stuck at 0.00 - refuses to play songs

My brand new iPod video would let me select whatever track I chose, then display all the info, album art, etc, but sit frozen at 0.00 (start of the progress bar) I wuold be able to access everything, just like normal, it just flat out refused to play anything. If I picked a video track, it would freeze at a balck screen and the the only resolution then was to reboot.
It would do this periodically, so I returned it.
My next iPod video does the SAME thing! This can't be coincidence. I have the latest iTunes software, updates, etc.
Anyone have the same problems or any suggestions?

This is a fairly common problem. I have no idea what Apple had not issued a fix for it yet. But here is a thread from a couple months back with one theory as to WHY it happens...

  • [SOLVED] mpd refuses to play songs with unicode in the filenames

    Hi,
I've been using MPD+Sonata for a while now (two great pieces of software), unfortunately I just tried to play some songs stored in files with unicode characters (i think they're unicode, the ones with the accents, like 'è') and they refuse to play.
I modified my mpd.conf file to set filesystem_charset to both ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 (restarting mpd and rebuilding the DB each time) and then it simply refused to add the songs to the database. Furthermore, when I uncommented the line again, MPD still won't add them to the database.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

ah... ok! it seems that the problem is deeper than that. I have my music stored on an NTFS drive and it would appear that these files have disappeared, as far as linux is concerned. I'll move the thread to something more appropriate
And that was fixed by a remount. Sorry for wasting everyone's time! :-/

  • IPod connects to iTunes 9 but can't play songs

I just updated to iTunes 9 and now I cannot play songs off the iPod. I can see the songs in iTunes, I can get the song info, but the songs are grayed out and I cannot play them.
    My iPod Touch works perfectly.
    How is this resolved?
    Message was edited by: masweet

    Hello masweet,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The songs are probably greyed out because you have the iPod set up to "automatically" sync from your iTunes library. In order to play the songs from within iTunes off the iPod is to enable the "manually manage music and videos" button from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. If you had previously set your iPod up for manual management, the update may have reverted it to automatic. So it will be as simple as changing it back.
If still no luck, the update may have confused your iPod into thinking that it was set up with an entirely different iTunes library and will need to be restored in order to regain this functionality.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhone 3G iPod Application refuses to play songs in correct order

iPhone 3G running OS 4.0.2. Album tracks will not play in correct order. I do not have shuffle switched on. Albums tracks are displayed in correct sequence on both iTunes and iPod on the iPhone. When played on PC with iTunes no problem and everything in sequence. On the iPhone it's pants. It plays in completely random order. I've deleted all songs off the iPhone, and then reapplied all albums again and synced to iPhone. No change - still pants! No issue with "Album Artist" field. All correct. This must be a software bug in the iPod application

    Jim,
I am humbled, and forever grateful for your answer. I have never previously seen the screen which you referred to (i.e. Repeat/Genius/Shuffle/Scrubber Bar/Playhead). But now realise to get this to display simply tap on the full screen image of the cover art. And yes indeed Shuffle was blue, and therefore switched on.
    Warmest regards,
    Robert

  • HT1353 Ipod won't sync properly and refuses to play certain songs

My Ipod Nano 5th gen won't sync properly and when I choose a song it shows the title of a different song and plays a song different to the song title shown or chosen.

What do you mean it won't sync properly? Do you get any error messages in iTunes?
Have you tried any of the usual 5 R's of troubleshooting yet?

  • Help! My iPod nano refuses to play songs, won't show album pictures, etc.

I'm not sure what I did or how I did it, as I just got my iPod nano for Christmas and am fairly new to this new technology bit, but whenever I go from Music, to Songs, or try to play a particular song in general, it won't, it just goes on and on and won't stop or play any song, except for the two I just recently updated, and it won't display the album pictures, or only will sometimes, of this one band. I'm sorry if that sounded confusing - it's the only way I know how to explain it: I press play, and it just goes on it own free will through the songs like it's shuffling, will only show little white boxes where the album pictures should be, and when it reaches the last song just goes back to the menu area. All of this disincludes the two songs I updated after I discovered this problem, thinking maybe somehow that would work - they play fine.
It's very frustrating, because I have no clue what's going on or what to do about it. I went through the entire troubleshooting page, and nothing seems to describe my unusual problem. I tried resetting it, by 'toggling' the hold button, then holding the menu and select button until the apple logo appears on the screen. Please, please, help me.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Ok, if resetting it hasn't worked you could try a restore:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
I see you're on Windows 98 - according to the Tech Spec that is not supported:
    Windows system requirements
    * PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
    * Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
As you're new to this technology then the iPod 101 might be helpful:

  • My iPod synced automatically and now I can't play songs on iTunes.

I used to play my songs from my iPod all the time on iTunes. One day, I connected my iPod to my computer to charge it up and it started to sync automatically for no reason and now I can't seem to 'rewind' this and go back to the way things were.
What has happened? I have never synced my songs before (at least I don't think I have) but my songs on my iPod are very light in color and are non-playable on both of my computers now. :o(

    B-rock,
Thank you for replying to the issue I am having with my iPod. I think I may have tried to download an update for the iPod on iTunes, but I never completed the download or installed it, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?? I don't know if I should try to restore it to it's original settings or if that will delete all the songs I have on there. When I uncheck the sync button it deletes everything, so I know I can't do that option.
I don't think my kids have downloaded a newer version of iTunes on this computer and I know I didn't on my laptop, so that rules that possibility out.
It is just the craziest thing. They are there one day, then one a different day, I plug it in to charge and bam, it starts to sync out of the blue, and I have no control over what is happening.
I am not one that is very 'iPod literate' so I have no clue what it means to 'sync' the music, so in a nutshell, I'm not even sure what really happened when my music synced..... I know how to create the playlists, add the music, add the pictures, and do the basic stuff, but when it comes to BIG stuff, my kids know more than I do.... :o/

  • ITunes is SO confused: refuses to play 89 of my 1000+ songs

I backed up my iTunes library to DVD-ROM and had to reformat and reload my entire computer (Windows XP). Reloaded entire computer and reinstalled iTunes 8ish. Restored iTunes library from backup.
(It isn't smart enough to restore all of my artwork, only some; and it forgot which songs were checked and which weren't. Different problems, but poor functionality nevertheless.)
Now, iTunes refuses to play 89 of my 1000+ songs, saying my computer isn't authorized to play them. Stupid, since it's apparently authorized to play all the rest of them. It says I have to authorize the computer with an old AOL ID I apparently used to purchase those songs. Although, many of them were not purchased from the iTunes store, but imported from CDs I own.
So I go through the steps it's forcing me to take. I sign on to the old account, at which point it tells me I have to upgrade to an Apple ID or I can't go any further. Fine. I already have an Apple ID, and there's no way to inform iTunes of that. So I go through the motions to create yet another new Apple ID. Says the request cannot be completed. No explanation.
So I'm stuck. It still refuses to play those tunes, which played fine before I reloaded and restored the computer and library. Now it thinks I have two computers authorized to play iTunes music, and I only have one. Yes, one. It may have been reloaded, but iTunes should be smart enough to figure out that it's the same one. Duh.
So I'm stuck not being able to play music I own and am authorized to play, and it refuses to allow me to transfer or reorient my songs to my normal Apple ID.
Is there anyone who can fix this? I hope I don't have to tell you how ridiculous this problem is, and how iTunes/Apple is forcing me to take steps it won't allow me to take.
    Thanks.

You can Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings:  Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command and Option keys (on a Mac) until you see iPhone appear in the iTunes sidebar.
To load all the stuff from your phone, you'll need to use a 3rd-party uitility. Here are 2 that will work:

  • Playing songs off iPOD without installed software.

Ok so I am aware that if we set my iPod classic to manually manage and disk use mode, we can transfer it around with us and plug it into a computer with itunes we can listen to the music right off the ipod. I am wanting to be able to either install some kind of software on my own USB flash drive, or the ipod unit itself. To be able to play songs off the ipod through any computer without having itunes installed on it. I have came across some "Portable Itunes" software, however those just didn't work properly.

if you turn on the ability to show hidden folders in windows you should be able to navigate to the songs on the ipod and play them with windows media player or whatever. the only problem is that they will not be sorted as you would expect. the file names will have random names in random folders but I think windows media player will read the track information if you add it to your playlist.

  • ITunes 7 gives error message when playing songs off ipod

Whenever I connect my ipod to my computer and use itunes to play songs from it...it gives me the following message whenever a song plays.
"iPod is in use and cannot be updated. The required file is in use."
Does anyone know why this would be happening? I have my iPod set on manual update and I have already installed and run the new iPod update so I have no idea why this is happening.
    Thanks.
PS. I have a new 5th gen. model iPod.

  • Is it possible to play songs by artist on IPod Nano gen 7th ?

I can play songs by album on my new Ipod Nano 7th generation
Is it possible to play songs by artists on Ipod Nano ?
    Thank you for your help

when you click on artists, and then select the artist you want, it can ither go straight through all of the chosen artist's albums and songs in cd order, or you can put it on shuffle mode so it can put songs in a random order.

  • IPod refusing to play track...

So I've just bought the remastered "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" CD by Brian Eno and David Byrne. I imported it into iTunes without problem and the album plays fine.
However, once downloaded onto my iPod, it refuses to play the first track, "America Is Waiting". It plays the first 2 seconds and then skips to the next track.
I've tried reseting my iPod (several times). I've tried deleting it all and re-importing. I've tried completely restoring my iPod and reimporting everything, but nothing has made any difference.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks,
    Paul C.
    iPod with Colour Display 60GB
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi,
Thanks for that. Tried it. But no joy.
It's got to be something to do with this track and my iPod. It plays okay in iTunes. And it even plays okay off my iPod via iTunes. But no luck when the iPod is on its own.
I've tried tricking it, by setting the start time of the track to three seconds in ( or more). But when played on my iPod, it goes straight to the three second mark - does nothing, then goes back to 0:00, plays two seconds worth and then skips to the next track. It's getting really annoying.
One other thing to mention, is that if I pause the track at 0:00, then skip to some point in the title beyond 0:03, the rest of it plays fine.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul C.

  • Refuses to play tracks purchased/downloaded off itunes.

My ipod mini sometimes refuses to play only the tracks purchased/downloaded from itunes. The only way to rectify the fault is to either re-sync or restore to factory settings, however sometimes once this is done, 24 hrs later it starts refusing to play purchased/downloaded tracks again. Anyone experienced this problem or have any ideas? Many thanks.

    See if this helps.
iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.

  • IPod refusing to play selected song?

About half the time when I navigate to a song, the iPod refuses to play it, and simply reverts back to the home screen, ie. Music, Extras, Settings, etc.
After I hit the center button of the click wheel, the song comes up, and the timing bar comes up, and it looks like it's going to play, but ultimately it doesn't, and as mentioned reverts back to the home screen.
this problem has reduced this iPod to a random jukebox player. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx. devanson

i had something similar happen to me but my ipod nano skipped through every track i tried to play, and i couldnt listen to anything. i just connected my ipod to my PC, synced, and it was fine after that

  • Some tracks stuck at ca. 90%

    New month, new troubles ...
If i try to download an album on my ipod touch, some tracks stuck at ca. 90% download status. And you can find this Tracks in the itunes store / downloads, re-download doesn't work either. The only thing that works is to re-upload the tracks on the Copmuter. But if you have 40 download errors, it's really annoing to re-upload the single tracks from an album.
    Suggestions?

iCloud Status is "uploaded" or "found". And everything works fine on a PC and MacBook, no download problems.
Just my iOS Device (iPod touch 4g) has these issues with some tracks, at the moment about 20.
