IPod Transfer.

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this issue!
I'm having a problem transferring files from my computer to my iPod, and I'm not sure if it's my computer or my iPod that is giving me the problems. My computer is a 1.25 Powerbook G4, 1.25 RAM.
I've had a bunch of iPods in my family, all of them are based on my computer. I've almost always just used Firewire, (except in the case of the Shuffles, of course) and the transfer process has always been very smooth.
I attempted once to use a USB transfer cable, on my brother's Mini, and I experienced the problems that I'm going to get into now, because I'm experiencing them again.
Basically, I've just opened my new 5g iPod. It's new and shiny out of the box. Somehow, I'm doubting that it's the iPod that is giving me problems, but hey, you never know, that's why I'm here, right?
The situation is that when my iPod is plugged into the computer via USB, it wil start to transfer files just fine. Then, it will just freeze - stop - and sit there with the beach ball until I either close iTunes or pull the USB cable out of the computer. This can't be good for either the computer or the iPod. This is the same thing that happened with my brother's Mini until I just switched to Firewire, at which point it worked perfectly. I'm sure you see my dilemma though - there is no support of Firewire in the new iPods, so I can't just use the Firewire like I would have before.
I can't transfer pictures, music files or video without it freezing shortly into the transfer. Any ideas of what could be causing this and what I should do to fix it?

  • What is the iPod transfer (ACC-AIFF) rate

I upgraded my system and now have a larger HD.
I reentered most of the songs in AIFF whereas prior they were ACC.
I have a 6og iPOD and all the songs will not fit if the iPOD loads them as AIFF.
Does the iPOD transfer at the rate that the iTunes songs are imported or are they adjusted to ACC or MP3 ?
If not can I change the iPOD transfer rate setting and/or only transfer from certain playlists similar to the iPhoto ability.
    Thanks,
    Greg

*Where are the settings for the iPod ? - I only noticed them when I have my iPod attached to the computer.*
That's correct you'll only see the iPod preferences when your iPod is connected and showing in iTunes.
*Otherwise if I attach the iPod it will try and download the entire iTunes library.*
If your iPod is set to update automatically you can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings Once you are connected you can access and change the settings: iTunes for Mac - Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Comment supprimer des musiques de mon Ipod transférées de mon Mac avec Cloud? Merci

Comment supprimer des musiques de mon Ipod transférées de mon Imac,  merci

How you delete content from your iPod depends on how it is set up to receive content from your iTunes library whether that be via automatic syncing or manual management.
For automatic syncing, you must reconfigure your settings so that the album/tracks/content you wish to remove is no longer configured to sync to your iPod.  For example, if the Sync only checked songs and videos option is enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab, make sure all the tracks for this album do NOT have a tick mark next to them in your iPod.  Then resync your iPod with iTunes.
If that isn't the case, you'll want to look at the iPod's Music configuration tab.  You can access this tab by selecting your iPod under Devices. This should bring you to theSummary tab over to the right.  Look for the Music tab along the top and select it.  Here you can configure how and what music syncs to your device.  If you make any changes to this tab, be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner to sync the updated changes to your device.
Otherwise, if you manually manage your iPod's contents, you must manually remove content from it.  You can do this by plugging your iPod in and clicking the small black triangle next to your iPod from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will open up a submenu of content that is indented underneath the name of your device, so go ahead and click on Music (or whatever content you are wanting to remove).  Locate the track or tracks/content you wish to delete. Highlight them and hit the Delete key or choose Edit -> Delete.
    Hope this helps.

  • 5th gen iPod transfer iTunes library contents from device... Please help

I have a 5th generation iPod with video, a new laptop (Windows Vista) with the latest iTunes 10.4 installed and am trying to transfer entire contents to iTunes library.   I have gone through help topics, discussions, manuals, etc. When I open My Computer and Select F: drive / iPod device my photo folders appear but none of the music files. My device does appear in iTunes but thats it. Since my previous laptop with the iTunes library associated with this iPod crashed a year ago, Im unable to access anything from previous library . I have been at this for 2+ hours, I hope someone is able to help me, please. Thanks.

  • Blue Screen Error from iTunes to iPod Transfer

When I hit update (iPod Name), it would update the device. However, upon completion, my computer always crashes, giving me the b.s.o.d (blue screen of death).
Is there any way I can fix this?
    Other Notes:
Files transfer completely into the iPod. The music plays and seems functional.

"i changed the settings to manual sync and tried to copy and paste"
To load an iPod manually you connect it to iTunes and drag songs and playlists from the library to the iPod icon, there's no cutting or pasting required: Managing content manually on iPod
Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Mac-formatted ipod transfer to pc

I am in Europe now with my pc laptop, and had to leave my mac mini at home which I synced with my video iPod. I am trying to transfer all of my information (i.e. music, videos, playlists, podcasts info) to my pc laptop permenantly, so I will just sync with my laptop pc now on. I saw some programs like xplay and stuff, but before buying anything, wanted to check with experts out there on what I should do. Thanks.

A windows PC will not nativly read a harddrive/iPod that has been formatted by a mac. I myself am not that mac savy but I know you will have to search for a program that will run on windows and can read a mac formatted disk. Again Im not sure but I think yamipod might be able to do this, I know its a free program that will copy songs from a iPod to a PC, not sure if it will handle a mac iPod and copy to a PC but you can look here and see, try it out

  • Ipod - transfer music from the Ipod to the computer

My computer died suddenly, how can I transfer my Ipod library on a new computer without the support of my old computer.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

For more on the new function in iTunes 7 look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Compact flash- iPod transfer?

Is there a device that will let me transfer photos from my camera's memory card (Canon 350, compact flash) to my iPod "in the field"? Purpose built hard disks for this have a slot to insert the memory card. Is there some sort of adapter so I can use my pod for this?

I am trying to tranfer my music from my IPod to my laptop. I cannot drag the music from my ipod to my laptop. So how can I tranfer my music to my laptop?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello jawss,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Ipod transfer problems

I don't know what sort of Ipod I have. It's got a long screen and a circular button at the bottom with menu play rewind and fastforward options. I just reset my IMac back to factory settings. I tried to log into my itunes but it keeps telling me I don't exist, then lets me in only to kick me out again. It tells me I have to sync my ipod for use with this computer but that it'll errase all the data saved to the ipod. I'm currently downloading the new itunes 10 becuause mine keeps freezing the computer. I've had to do three manual shutdowns. All I want is to transfer the digital video copies I have on my ipod to the Mac. How do I do this? If I manually try to download them, it freezes and I have to shut down. Also,  is there a way to make my ipod work with both Mac and Windows if I'm running Itunes on both?

To extract iPod video to Mac, you need 3rd Party Software, iTunes can't do it, google CopyTrans
To make iPod accesible to both Mac and Windows, you have to reformat the iPod to FAT32, using either DiskUtility or just connect your iPod to Windows iTunes and it will Reformat it FAT32 filesystem. However all your data, songs, video will be erased during the format.
Mac and Windows recognised FAT32 hardisk, but Windows don't recognise MAC HFS+ filesystem (journelled)
    Have a nice day!

  • Here's my problem(Songs on ipod, transfer to library)

I was given a computer, and it already has itunes on it. I have an ipod with nearly 2000 songs on it and I was wondering if there was any way i could make a library of the songs that already exist on my ipod(cause I plan on buying a new ipod and i want to be able to transfer all these songs to it)
It recognizes my ipod and will let me take songs from the library, but not put anything from the ipod into the library.
Do I have to re-install itunes?
Will I ever be able to create a library based on the songs already in my ipod?
