IPod turns itself off in dock

I have a new iPod classic 160gb. From time to time, the iPod turns itself off while playing, but only while in a speaker dock. This has happened in two different docks, including the Bose SoundDock and the Griffin Journi. Somewhere midway through a song, the music stops, the backlight comes on, it goes into charging mode. If I hit play, it continues as if nothing has happened.
I don't have a problem listening through headphones, anyone else see this?

Add me to this list.
Along with the frustrating, well known and widely shared iTunes freezing issues, my (second, first one returned)silver 160GB classic also experiences this 'shutoff' in my iHome dock. I haven't had this issue with my DLO Homedock deluxe, but when in my iHome speaker dock playback starts fine but then just shuts off midway through a song when it feels like it, then like was said, goes to the charging battery screen. So, this new iPod has made iTunes, old video docks and now even my iHome dock worthless. I've really begun to question the intellegence of this 'upgrade'.

  • IPod turns itself off

I have had my iPod classic for almost 3 years, and it has started to turn itself off without me telling it to. It will do this while I am playing a song. I would prefer to not buy another one. Anyone have ideas?

Well the most obvious question is: is the battery running down which is then causing your iPod to turn off?
After a few years the battery will not re-charge properly and the play time will then be much shorter. Check the battery status button while your iPod is playing to see how long before it drops from full charge to empty. If it is quite quick - and that is why your iPod is turning off, your options are have the battery replaced (either by Apple or a thrid party) or buy a new iPod.
The next most obvious question - if the above is not the problem - can you turn the iPod on again immediately, is it always the same song (or songs) that causes the iPod to turn off?

  • TS1363 my ipod turned itself off and now it wont come back on

My ipod was fully charged & it turned itself off & now it wont came back on. What should I do? I sometimes have the same problem with my iphone3GS.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. (And there is no need to SHOUT.)

  • Ipod turns itself off - only playing 1 certain album!

on Monday evening I purchased Ne-Yo- Year of the Gentleman via the i-tunes store.
Having played the album on Tuesday morning, I incurred a problem. It will play 2-3 songs perfectly fine, but if I go to skip to the next song the ipod turns it self off and the apple icon appears on the screen.
The ipod loads up again after about 2 minutes but obviously this is a very inconveinet and annoying problem.
I have tried playing other play lists and it doesn’t have the same problem its only Ne-Yo.
Can you give me an idea of what the problem is and how to correct it?
    Thanks

I was hoping either a reset or restore would do the trick. In this case it could be the album itself may be the culprit. So, the only thing I can suggest is to ask Apple if you can download the album again. I'm not sure if Apple will allow it though given their strict iTunes download policy. You may want to try anyway.
I suspect it could be either a bad tag in the songs or a corrupt file.

  • My iPod turned itself off and won't come back on now.

My IPod Turned Off By Itself & Now It's Not Wanting To Turn On.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why does my ipod turn itself off when I try to sync it?

Whenever I try to sync my ipod touch to the computer it starts the sync and then my ipod restarts, i cant restore my ipod because I have loads of songs and apps on it, which I havent been able to transfer to the computer. What can I do?

Try resetting the iPod.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can also try another cable and usb port.

  • My Ipod Nano keeps turning itself off halfway through a song, anyone know why this happens?

I have had my Nano since November and have downloaded cds and music of downloads.  When I play the ipod halfway through a song the ipod turns itself off. Do you think this is a fault with the Ipod or am I doing something wrong when downloading the music?

    Hey jokoboco,
At this point get your ipod service with apple. Have your Serial number ready. Sounds like your iPod has a hardware issue, a kind of defect. Use any of these options:

    or

  • Ipod constantly turns itself off and requires a restart

I have a 1st generation Ipod Touch 16GB and recently it has begun turning itself off when i'm doing something such as listening to music or using an app and when i turn it back on the Apple logo appears for 2-3 minutes and then the date and time is reset to 1st January 2000 00:00am. I have had it less than a year so it's still under warranty but i don't have the receipt. Any tips on how to fix it are much appreciated.

If that's the case, I'd say call Apple for help processing a return. Can you find a credit card transaction showing the purchase? I get emails from the Apple store when I buy my iPods. I get a receipt at the store, PLUS I have them email me a copy. Good luck

  • My iPod touch turns itself off automatically

I got my iPod touch 2G 16GB this Monday and it reacts strangely when it plays music or video using the speaker, it turns itself off automatically. Is it because of the low battery? Or anything else?

it might be because of the battery, or it could just be that it is putting itself in "sleep" mode, if that is what has happened it will "wake" when you push the hold or the home button. but im not sure this is just a guess. what happens when you push one of the buttons after it has shut down? does it continue to play the music once it has turned off?

  • My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly

My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly. I will be doing something, and it turns off. It gets so bad that it turns off right after I slide to unlock it. Sometimes it flickers off and on as well. It works fine when plugged in to a power source. I haaven't done anything traumatic to it either. It just randomly started. Has this happened to anyone? If so, did you fix it? If you did, How? Please tell me, I'm at the eand of my rope with this.

Depending on the usage and age of the device it could be the battery.
To make sure it is not software related, reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back gain. You will not lose data doing a reset.
Next step after that would be setting it up "as new device" without using the latest backup: How to set up your iPhone or iPod touch as a new device

Have yu tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • When I turn my ipod on why does the screen stay blank and then turn itself off?

When I turn my ipod on the normal start up screen appears with the apple logo in the middle, but then after a few seconds the screen goes blank and it turns itself off. It was working fine the other day. I even charged it overnight to make sure that it wasnt because it was out of battery. I dont know what to do, it has over 600 songs on it and around 300 photos, I know that the memory isnt full because I checked the other day and it said I had around 1GB left. I cant do anything on at all because the screen just goes blank and then turns itself off. Please help, thank you

Well, I strongly suspect that a gig isn't quite enough "extra" storage to allow operation.
However, first, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • My ipod keeps turning itself off,  it syncs and charges fine. does anyone know what i can do?

i brought a second hand ipod, i would told it was fully functional. however, sometimes it likes to turn itself off halfway through songs.
it syncs to my mac fine and the battery can last upto a few days.
does anybody please have any advice? thanks.

Have you restored it in iTunes yet? If the issue is software related then a restore will resolve your issue, since it will remove all data and system software and reinstall the system software.
