Ipod turns off computer when plugged in, itunes wont recognize it

so a few weeks back i unplugged my ipod and it i listened to it until the battery died, and now it wont charge. Before, when i plugged it into the computer nothing happened and that was before i had itunes on it. Now with itunes, it immediatly shuts down the laptop with or without the charger plugged in. Any help would be really helpful

Thanks for the suggestion! It worked!
I went to my friends house who has a Windows system, downloaded and installed the Shuffle Reset Utility, followed through the reset, plugged it back into my Mac and reloaded it with music. I really didn't want to have to buy a new Shuffle, and now I don't have to.

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • IPod will not update when plugged in iTunes.

My iPod when plugged into iTunes, it says updating but after about 3 seconds it says that it couldn't update because the Compaq_Owner's Playlist had been deleted or no longer exist. I am not really sure what to do. My iPod is completely empty. If anyone could help me out i'd be greatly appreciative. I really need it before Wednesday of next week because I have a ten hours drive and we all know how radid stations can be.

  • I want to play one gapless album and have the Ipod turn off.  When I download my audiobooks as a compilation does that automate going from one gapless album to the next?

I created a gapless album by joining the tracks on a disc in a multiple disc audiobook.  I want my classic Ipod to turn off after it finishes an album but it continues on to the next disc (album) in the audiobook automatically.  When it finishes the multiple discs contained in the compilation of one album it continues to the next audiobook.  This is great when listening to the audiobook in a car while driving, but not when I use the Ipod to put me to sleep at night.  Why does it do this?

Did you put the library on the external drive, or just the media folder. See this migrate iTunes library post for the way this ought to be done and recovery tips for when it is no longer possible.

  • Automatically turn off wifi when plugged into LAN?

    What happens:
I go to a site and put my nice MacBook Pro down. I then plug into their wired network and then discover that I am accessing the wrong network. I look up and notice that the wifi is hooking into a nearby access point.
    What I Expected:
When I plug in a wired LAN, it should turn off wifi.
    Ciao!

is it THAT much of an inconvenience to just click on the wifi symbol in the menu bar and select "Turn Airport Off" ?
I performed extensive experiments and this can be accomplished in under 2 seconds, on average.
I didn't say it's a hardship, but it's something the computer should be able to do automatically. Following rules like that are something computers are good at. I'm not.
Taking the same argument, they could just have a drop down that lets you pick "better performance" or "better power savings" and you could click it your self when running off battery or not. But it makes much more sense to have the computer detect this situation and react accordingly.
Do you have a helpful suggestion?
    Ciao!

  • Ipod constantly resetting itself when plugged into Itunes.

My new 5G 80gig Ipod constantly resets itself when I plug it into Itunes. Any ideas? The Ipod is new...

Here's what I've done so far unsuccessfully:
Placed it into disk mode, but it does the same thing. Once plugged into the computer the ipod is recognized by both windows and Itunes but it resets itself within 30 seconds. It constantly keeps resetting itself.
Also, since it keeps resetting itself, and therefore disappears form itunes, I cannot reformat/hardreset it via Itunes....

  • IPOD turns off music when the sleep music is pressed

I've got a question. How do I set my i pod nano 6th gen to play music while the screen is dark? I recently got the lastest update, but now if I turn on my i pod nano and pick a song then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the screen (to conserve battery power) the music stops. Also if I play a song and don't touch anything, my i pod nano screen goes dark and the music shuts off. Cause in the previous update i could do that. HELP ME!

Have you double checked to make sure the headphones were plugged all the way in, meaning you don't see any of the metal from the jack showing?
By the way, you posted this in the iPod Touch forum, even though it's regarding your iPod Nano.

  • My iPhone 4s shows battery of 40%, but then turns off.  When plugged in to charge, it shows the 40%.  Why?

    How to extend battery life?

    Hi Micsher,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The information below may help you troubleshoot your iPhone battery life issue:
iPhone Battery and Power - Apple Support
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/battery-power/
    Battery & power
Is your iPhone battery draining too quickly or not holding a charge? Try restarting it first. You can also adjust several settings to extend the battery life of your iPhone.
    Restarting your iPhone
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button on top of your iPhone, then drag the slider to turn it off. Press the button again to restart.
The article below explains how to get the most out of the battery life of your iPhone.  I've included some of the highlights below ... click on the link for complete information.
    Apple - Batteries - iPhone
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
    Optimize Your Settings
Depending on how they are set, a few features may decrease your iPhone battery life. The tips below apply to an iPhone running iOS 7.0 or later.
Enable Wi-Fi: Having Wi-Fi enabled helps consume less power when doing activities that access data. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and log in to a Wi-Fi network.
Adjust brightness: Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life. Turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust based on lighting conditions.
Fetch new data less frequently: The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch data manually: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually.
Turn off push notifications: Apps with Push Notification alert you of new data, which may impact battery life. To disable, go to Settings > Notifications, choose the app you want to disable, and do the following:
    Change Alert Style to None.
    Turn Badge App Icon off.
    Turn Sounds off.
Note: New data will be received when you open the app.
Minimize use of location services: Apps that actively use location services, such as Maps, may reduce battery life. You can see which applications have recently used location services by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas: Your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, which may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turn on Airplane Mode to increase battery life in these situations.
    Viewing Usage Statistics
Knowing and understanding your iPhone usage can help you better manage your battery life. To view your iPhone usage statistics, go to Settings > General > Usage. Under “Time since last full charge”:
Usage: Amount of time iPhone has been awake and in use since the last full charge. iPhone is awake when you’re on a call, using email, listening to music, browsing the web, or sending and receiving text messages, or during certain background tasks such as auto-checking email.
Standby: Amount of time iPhone has been powered on since its last full charge, including the time the phone has been asleep.
    Cheers,

  • Ipod turned off mid song - blank screen and wont restart

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano - used quite regularly but it has not sustained any known damages (not been in contact with water - not been dropped). I updated my ipod today - bought 9 songs and they synced in no problems. I was listening to the ipod in a doc for about an hour and then during one song the ipod suddenly cut out mid song and I cannot get it going again since.
The ipod has a fully blank screen - totally black.
I have gone through the steps via ipod - pressing inner circle and menue keys at same time. I have connected the ipod to the computer. I have re-started my computer - nothing...still blank black screen.
I tried contacting tech support via apple but it won't recognise my serial number! Its an authentic ipod - bought in an electronic shop.
The serial number is on both the origonal packaging and the ipod - but is not recognised by apple.
I am so upset - don't know where to go from here! I have years worth of music on this ipod which I am very worried about losing..and cannot really afford to dish out for a new nano right now.
    Any suggestions for me?

  • IPod locks up computer when plugged in.

I have a iPod Shuffle first generation and tonight it randomly started to lock up my system when I plugged it in. The odd thing is that it will only lock up applications [aside from the Finder] that try to utilize it. I've tried restarting and all of that hoopla. System Profiler will recognize the Shuffle, but iTunes and the Shuffle Reset Utility won't.
I am wondering if this could be due to the fact that I stored a video file on it in disk mode and played it back...

Thanks for the suggestion! It worked!

  • Please give us the option to turn off vibration when plugging phone into power!!!

Ok you're married, you're up later than your spouse, you creep into the bedroom, eventually you manage to put the little connector in to charge overnight.... then BRRRRR BRRRRR a "silent" vibration that is so loud it wakes up your spouse. So Apple what is the explanation for not allowing us to turn this off? I'm guessing you want that satisfying vibration safe in the knowledge the phone is getting power, except it's annoying as **** plus the screen turns on anyway and floods the room with light. Why do I need 2 methods of confirmation that the phone is getting power.

I would imagine, if your spouse is such a light sleeper, you've got your phone on mute or DND at night anyway. Change the setting back in the morning. Or, charge the phone in another room. Or buy your spouse earplugs.

  • Ipod 30gb turns off automatically when battery is about half

    Hello,
I have been testing my new ipod 30gb for a few days to see how much time I can let it play until thebattery dies. However, the last two times i did that (out of three trials)the ipod turn off automatically when the battery reached about half.
My 'hold' button was on so I could not have touched it by accident and I left the ipod on my desk and no one touched it.
Has anyone experienced this before or would anyone know what is happening?
    thanks a lot,

Please, please, let us all know if this works. I for one have yet to find anyone who has this problem that has fixed it (and, apple, there seems to be quite a few of us, JUST RECENTLY).
    dying for a cure.
First, as I stated, the "cure" for an old battery is to buy a new one. Many people have had faulty batteries replaced for free by Apple - if the health is low (<80%) and the cycle count is <300, that's a faulty battery that is likely eligible for replacement. Personally, I had one like that replaced for free (after my one year warranty was up, but within the 2 year battery warranty extension). Second, perhaps this is happening "just recently" because the MBPs have been out for a while now, and people's batteries (just like the people themselves) are getting older. Batteries have a finite life and a finite number of charge cycles they can take before they become unreliable - that's just the basic chemistry of a Li-based rechargeable battery. Third, if you're addressing your comment to Apple, this is not the place for that - go to the appropriate Apple feedback page instead.
