IPod turns off when i plug in a 1/4 inch jack.
Whenever I plug in a headphone jack into the ipod it turns off!
I can't use my iPod.
Has anyone had this problem?
This is my 4th iPod in a year.
A 1/4 inch jack won't fit into an iPod, I assume you mean an adapter to go from 1/8 to 1/4 inch?
The iPod headphone jack has a feature that pauses Playback when the headphone jack is pulled out. Sometimes certain jacks inadvertently activate this feature due to minor differences in jack design.
You may be using a Mono Jack Adapter (which has only one Black band) or a Stereo Jack Adapter (which has two black bands). Either one could be causing this problem.

Why does my ipod turn off when I dim the backlight?
why does my ipod turn off when I dim the backlight?
Probably because you do not have the headphones plugged all the way in. Make sure the plastic on the headphone jack is flush with the body of the Nano.
Incidentally, you are not running iOS 1.x -

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Computer turns off when I plug Ipod Touch in
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Each time I plug my Ipod Touch into my computer and open iTunes it resets the whole computer. It will keep on doing this until I take my ipod out of the usb port. I tied plugging it into my other PC and accessing the few songs I have on there and it worked fine.
I'm not sure what's going on, Wether its my Ipod or if its my computer (both pc's by the way).
Any help will be much appreciated. You can start by turning off the caps lock.
You need to try a few things - reset your iPod and check on what is happening with the Apple Mobile Device Services on your computer.
If you don't know how to reset, click the Support tab at the top of the page and then click on Troubleshooting.

Ipod turns off when in unlock position
Hi!, I have an iPod nano and it only turns on when in the locked position and plugged in to computer or power outlet then shuts-off when switched to unlocked position...what gives! I have restored with itunes no luck. I bought new in 2009, maybe its toast.
If you have the Hold switch ON and it's connected to power, the iPod is ON... What happens when you disconnect it like that? Does it stay on for any length of time? Does it immediately turn OFF?
If it immediately (or within a few seconds) turns OFF, I'm not sure what's going on with the Hold switch, but your battery is probably worn out and not holding a charge.
If it stays ON, you are saying it will turn OFF if you move the Hold switch to the OFF position? -
I have an IPhone 4 that turns off on its own. When I plug the phone into an outlet, it says to connect to iTunes. When i connect my phone to itunes, the screen displays the apple icon and doesn't connect to iTunes. I need to backup info on this phone so I can apply my back up to a new iPhone. Is there any another way i can do this? My older phone will not show it's connected to iTunes. I used iCloud on the phone with problems, but I didn't back up all the info thru iCloud. Is there another way to back up?
Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode. In this case, all data on it is gone. There's nothing to back up.

The headphones don't work
...If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes...

Ipod turns off when jogging sometimes
have a third generation ipod that was upgraded from 15gb to 40gb. However, even when at 15gb, I had occassions where I would be running and suddenly the ipod would shut off. Not a batter problem as if you stop you can turn it on again. Sometimes it turns itself back on back to the start of a cd. Others have noted similar problems with theirs.
James - I've had a 15gb for a couple of years, and I believe this is a very common problem. The guts of the iPod is a small hard drive, it just doesn't like to be shaken. I went through several types of fanny paks and various holders and it would still die, usually after the cache of about 20 minutes elapsed. The best holder I found - and it solved the problem nicely - is an armband type from Marware. It fits snugly on your upper arm, and for reasons of physics and anatomy I don't understand, the jostling there is simply gentler.
Or you can buy a Shuffle or Nano, both of which use flash memory instead of a hard drive! Good luck. -
Ipod Turns off when I press the center button...

HT1689 ipod turns off when wifi is turned on
I have an Ipod touch 2nd generation and it works fine, ive had it for a while now. But recently all of a sudden if I use anything on it, it stays working, but the second I press the switch to turn on wifi, the ipod shuts down and goes into a black screen. What should I do?
Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -
Help!!! my computer turns off when i plug in my iphone
the second i plug in my iphone my computer displays a blue screen and says something about an error and it shut off that second. then when it restarts it says it again until i unplug the iphone and then windows says recovered from serious error or something like that any ideas the phone and the computer work perfectly
Do you have any other peripherals connected to the computer when you connect the iPhone. If so, disconnect them and try again.
Make sure you're connecting the USB cable correctly to the computer. I've seen a few instances where the USB pin on the computer was bent down and the USB cable was connected upside down.
This could also be caused by a damaged photo. If it's okay with you, you might try deleting the photos you've taken with your iPhone and then connect. If you don't want to lose the photos, you can email them to yourself. -
My ipod turns off when i play any song.
Can someone help me on what to do i really need it.
I assume it's fully charged? Does the same thing happen when you try to play the iPod whilst connected to power (either the computer or charger)?
