IPod turns on and off, won't boot up or reset

Hi all,
I recently pulled my old iPod out of the closet, where's it's been since it stopped working two years ago. When I plug in it in to the AC and try to start it up, I get the Apple logo, but then it disappears--only to come back again. It just keeps doing this, even if I try the reset steps. It sounds like the drive is starting up and then shutting down repeatedly. I'm afraid that this might be something serious. Any help would be appreciated.

Same here.
Don't buy an ipod people!!
I bought one 2 years ago. It broke 1 year later. It was replaced by apple (warranty), but again a year later that one broke. "Outside warranty" says apple.
They told me I should get it repaired at my own cost but this would cost more than a new one.
Thats 460 Euro down the drain.
Go for Creative or Zune!
A very unhappy ipod customer.

  • IPOD turns on and off

All the Ipod does is turn on and off, on and off and then a large battery appears in the window. Then turns on and off a few more times. Reseting the Ipod doesnt work. Any suggestions before it meets my wall?

    Quick update:
I brought my iPod in. They told me there was nothing they could do to fix it. They simply gave me a brand new one and sent the other one back to Apple in Cupertino, California.
FYI: I think that either the database got corrupted or the hard drive got damaged. I was using it with ephPOD on windows 98. If I were you i'd use it only with windows 2000, windows XP, or MAC OS X.

  • When I use AC Adapter, Ipod turns on and off

I will try to explain this the best I can, here goes...
When I use all the battery in my ipod, so that it is completely dead, and I attempt to plug it into the AC adapter, the ipod turns on and off. I can hear the hard drive clicking on and off. It will not stay on; it just keeps doing this. However, if I plug the ipod into my computer, it will charge.
Do people think that this is a problem with my ipod or with the AC adapter?
I'd appreciate any feedback or if people have had a similar problem, let me know.
    Thanks so much.

If you have set this phone up, then there would not necessarily be a solution here until you have been verify with the provider that everything is provisioned correctly on their end. Since the 3G comes from your cellular provider, if the settings are correct on the phone, then you should work with the carrier next.

  • After fully charging and syncing, Ipod turns on and off indefinitely. Help!

I just bought an 80g Ipod. I was very excited to upgrade. I followed the charging/syncing instructions to a tee. As soon as I ejected the Ipod and disconnected it from the computer, it began blinking on and off (the Apple image shows, then it goes black, the image returns, and so on). I've tried to reset the Ipod and it simply says "Disk Mode" and freezes. I've exchanged the Ipod twice and am now on the third - with same results. Any idea what the problem may be or how I might be able to fix it? Thanks for the help.

    - If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the article again.
    - If still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT1688 Hi.....I downloaded an update of itunes, and I can no longer make or receive calls. It has something to do with icloud. I tried to cancel, but program won't let me. I have tried turning on and off, to no avail. I reset my password as prompted, not

Hi......looking for help in deleting icloud from my iphone 3G......I cannot receive or make calls. I have changed my password as directed, and the phone is frozen. Any ideas?
    Thanks.....

Perhaps you would like to calm down and explain EXACTLY what you did and what the problem is, including the EXACT text of any error messages you're getting?
You're not making a lot of sense.
You can't "delete icloud". And you certainly can't "delete icloud" from an iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3G can't run anything higher than iOS 4.2.1, which does not support iCloud.

  • My ipod nano 7th gen is stuck on a loop of turning on and off.

My ipod nano 7th gen is stuck on a loop of turning on and off, I've already done the reset, and everything that was recommended on other similar questions.  it isn't recognized by iTunes except in recovery mode where it allows me to restore but then goes right back to turning on and off once i'm back to normal play mode.  Once on recovery mode it works fine and doesn't turn on and off.  I've also uninstalled and reinstalled itunes to avail.  I'm super frustrated and am hoping that I won't need to buy a new one.  Is there anything else I can do before i just toss it out?  i'm getting a bit frustrated just watching my ipod turn on to the apple and then turn right back off.

    Hi there tksunrise,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4433
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.

  • Help, My iPod just turns on and off...my PC doesn't even get to "see" it.

I just got the 5G 60 Gig iPod. I was charging it for the first time. And of course windows wanted to jump on in. iTunes started up and wanted to transfer music, the unit wanted it's initial setup, but iTunes switched it over to th Do Not Disconnect mode. I got the register your new iPod screens to come up, then music started automatically transfering. Then I got I must reboot my computer screen...I ignored it, figuring it had to finish getting the music transfered. Then about a 1/3 into the music tansfer, I got some kind of could not find error concening the music, then my computer stopped doing anything. I did a restart, no all my iPod does is turn on and off by itself, (from the Apple icon, to back off) and won't stop doing it. I tried resetting the unit, but then it still continues. Connecting and reconnecting the USB cable, restarting the PC etc....Help, what do I do. Frustrated is beyond what I'm feeling right now...I keep thinking what the **** I just spent, for this to be the end result!! Is this unit fried? Or will it get damaged!!! HELP

I had exactly the same issue when connecting my new BLACK 60mb Video iPod to connect to my PC via USB 2.0.
The iPod kept Crashing & Freezing also iTunes become unstable and very slow, it kept saying "unable to write to disk" every 5 minutes and I had to disconnect & re-connect for the same message to show again in 5 mins later, it eventually told me not to disconnect the iPod. However, after 30 mins i just did it.
I then opened iPod updater and re-attached my ipod with USB 1.
This seemed to take an age to recognise (5 mins +) but bear with it. Once it was connected I reinstated to factory settings, once I did this it automatically told me to update my software to 1.1.1.
When I then opened iTunes it again took 5 mins to connect, but it then started to transfer my music, which took over 6 hours to do 22MB.
Having said that I have had no "can not write messages"
Today I have conencted (again taking 5 mins to connect) but it has transfered over 1000 photos in under 4 mins and updated all tunes.
    hope this helps,

My new 30 gig iPod does something similar to his. It repeatedly turns itself on and off, won't be recognised by computer and stays at the apple logo when on (backlight turns on and then off) :/
I'll try draining the battery, but I really don't want to have to take it back?

Try switching it back from landscape to vertical. Or, go to settings and see if you have any special setting turned on that enable only landscape view. Also, try hooking it up to your computer and charging it to see what happens.

  • Ipod Nano 3rd generation keeps turning on and off

I have a brand new Ipod nano. I updated the software on the ipod and my itunes. I then put songs on my ipod. After that, i ejected my ipod using the button on itunes and also by disconnecting with the windows icon in the lower left hand corner.
The ipod went to the main menu and appeared to be working. I then plugged it back in to my computer to download something else. Itunes then told me that it did not recognize my ipod and that i would have to restore to factorty settings. So i hit the link to restore to the ipod to factory settings. The ipod restarted and then itunes said that it was corrupted and needed to be restarted. Meanwhile my ipod began turning on and off, only displaying the black screen with the apple in the middle and then turning off, then turning back on and displaying the apple again.
Currently, I'm waiting for the battery to completely die, so that i can see if that will fix it. If anyone has heard of this problem and knows the solution, it would be appreciated. Happy Holidays.

    All,
I had the same issue on my new Ipod Nano. It works now! I did the following:
    1) Called Apple. Apple told me the next steps.
    2) Toggle the Hold switch 6 to 8 times. I did 10
    3) Press the center button and the PLAY button! Hold for ten seconds
    4) A check mark appears!
    5) Connect to computer and restore your Ipod!
    6) Thank me later!
