IPod Update 2004-04-28

Hey!
I once installed the iPod Update 2004-04-28 and then deleted all its folders because I thought that would help me with mending my other problems with iTunes! But (of course lol) it did NOT, and now everytime I start my computer there come three little windows about "Install iPod Update..." but it doesn't work - I think because the folders aren't there anymore! So I wanted to download the Update from the Downloads section on apple.com, but I couldn't find that very Update!

Let's do a quick check, Christina. I don't think there's spyware at fault here, but we can look anyways.
Open a command prompt and run the command "netstat -aon" That'll give quite a lot of output, but it shouldn't be too long. What this shows is all processes running that have internet connections open, and we're looking either for one process (the name or number should be at the end) that has a lot of listening connections open (which will show up as a *) or just generally a lot of connections to other machines, usually random ones you've never heard of.
Has b had you clean out your user temp files yet? Sometimes we see old install bits in there that can foul up the installer.

Although my iPod is new and all the updated programs have been downloaded after restoring my music, the next time I connect my iPod I get the prompt that my Ipod program is outdated (even though it isn't).
The Updater reads: iPod Updater 2004-07-15
It then says my software is up to date and then I close down the updater and my iPod won't be read on the iTunes. I have restored my iPod on three different occasions and I still am having the same problem.

Seeking copy of iPod Updater 2004-11-15 for Mac

I need to download this "updater" to install v3.0.2 my iPod. I have Updaters that date before and after. Basically the adapter for Apple iPod in my car ONLY reconises the v3.0.2. The only one I've found on the web was for PC, nothing for Mac ???
Does any one have it on their machine, I've located updaters in the Application-Utilities-iPod software Updater folder, so I could get a copy?

IPod Mini failed with iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9

Has anyone experienced iPod mini first generation failing completely (running low on batteries) after installing the iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9?
My iPod mini showed "Low battery sign please recharge" after being fully charged shortly after I installed the latest updater and iTunes 4.9. My iPod mini would show low battery status after playing 5 minutes or less. After several attempts to reinstall the latest update and iTunes software, I resolved the issue by reverting back to the original iPod Updater 2004-04-28 and iTunes 4.5. Now my iPod functions as before with the expected battery life.

Yeah, I didn't download it for that reason. I like my itunes the way they are. My iPod didn't work with the other one. So, I restored it. I don't plan to change my iTunes until i know for sure the new one is fool proof.

Can I Delete Previous Versions of iPod Updater from my Powerbook?

I am running out of room (quickly!) on my harddrive of my Powerbook. So I decided to do some spring cleaning and delete old and unnecessary files and applications from my Powerbook.
I noticed under the Utilities section, there are about 6 versions of the "iPod Updater". Can I safely delete all prior versions (except the most recent) from my computer without any negative consequences? Will I still be able to use iTunes, my iPod, etc without problems? Are these old versions not needed?
The versions currently on my harddrive are:

If your iPod is working normally, you don't need to keep old versions of the iPod updater around; the most recent one should be kept. If you delete one of the updaters, it is safe to delete the accompanying receipt from the /Library/Receipts/ folder.

in this context, there's a couple of different things that could be causing that error.
(1) you can get it sometimes if you try to uninstall the updater from a different XP user account from which the updater was installed, or try to install a higher version of the updater in a different user account from a lower version.
so if you've got several different user accounts on that PC, see if you can find the account in which the updater was originally installed, and try to uninstall it from there.
(2) if you can't uninstall the updater from any account (or you don't have multiple user accounts on that PC), the installation configuration information for the existing updater may be compromised.
in that case, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and use it to clear the things called either iPod for Windows or iPod Updater. (my 2004-11-15 version of the updater shows up in Windows CleanUp as "iPod Updater", but my three later versions show up as "iPod for Windows".)

My name is Benji. I am one of the customer of apple and Mac. I got many staffs from apple, and I believe it's really a good company. Unfortunately, one day after I used the ipod updater 2005-9-23, one of my ipod, an ipod mini 4GB lost it functionality. The situation is like after installion the ipod updater, a apple logo shown on the screen of my ipod mini, and then suddenly, a folder logo appear with "www.apple.com/support/ipod". I did search on that website and got no solution. Then I went to one of the apple store which is in Staten Island mall for assistance. I made an assigment there, and the staff who responds to my case told me that they couldn't fix it, since mine is an old generation ipod. I asked him whether that ipod updater granteen the safety of user, he then told me to post my situation online to you to see whether I would get a replacement or any refund on it. Please help me, since that ipod is the gift from my girl friend. And I did read the requirment before installation. I hope apple would reponds to this accident.

6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod

If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"

I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. IPod updates extremely slow...

I just recently restored my iPod, but it is going extremely slow. At this rate it will take me couple hours to get about a thousand songs on. Does anyone know why it sometimes updates so slow??

i'm having the same awful problem, I have an ipod mini 2004 (with the firewire connection cord) and when i go to update songs it is extremely slow... the first time i did this i thought it was frozen. However it's taking about a half hour for 13 songs at present.
This is a new problem for me, i've had the ipod for 2 years now. I've updated on this G4 before and it was fine, as well i've updated on my old ibook G3 and had no issues.... what the **** is going on with my baby?

I don't know how to open iPod updater to restore my iPod. I've heard that it is now built into iTunes version 7.0, but I didn't know how with old versions either, and now my old 20gig has crashed. In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

IPod not being read, iPod Updater will not work HELP!!

needing help on a problem i've been trying to solve on my own for a day or so. My iPod will not be read by iTunes anymore, and iPod Updater will not Restore it to factory settings.. need some help here, need to know anything else? just ask. thanks for any replies.

this happened to me yesterday. i spent 30 mins on the phone to a very helpful guy at apple, and we found out that i needed to disable USB 2.0 in Device Manager to run the restore then the updator. I disable the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller", rebooted then did the restore. Try it

The difference between itunes update and ipod update

Could someone please tell me what the ipod updater is. Is this worth downloading? I thought you only updated itunes.

Sure, if you have an iPod, then the updater is used to make sure your iPod is running the latest firmware.

Won't show up on itunes or on ipod updater("ipod service error")

Every time i plug my ipod (4g w/ click wheel) it says on itunes software not installed correctly, it shows up as a drive but i can't see it on itunes, i have tried to reinstall itunes more than 5 times and nothing works. Also, when I try to restore my ipod with ipod updater i get an "ipod service error". I am going crazy here trying to figure this out, someone please help me!

If you're still unable to get your iPod to restore, you can try this:
Put the iPod into disk mode, according to the article above.
Connect it to your computer.
Click Start > Run
Type compmgmt.msc
Click on Disk Management (in the left-hand column)
Let the computer go through its connection process
Right click on the iPod and click Format
Set the format to FAT32
Leave all the other settings on their defaults
Do Not select the option to Quickformat
Start the format.
It's recommended that you still try to restore the iPod after formatting, but it's not always necessary. This should get your iPod back into iTunes.

I think the latest ipod updater is broken...I don't recommend using it.

Hi all,
I had ipod 30 gig video number 1. It would lock up and couldn't be reset so you had to wait for the battery to die to charge it up to use it again. Then it started skipping tracks. Then one day, post an update attempt of the firmware, the dreaded folder with an exclamation mark came up.
Well I finally managed to get the updater to try to restore it only to have it come back with 'firmware update failure - disc write error'. I figured it was just that the hardrive was toast.
So I took it to the Apple care center and got ipod 30 gig video number 2 replacement! Yea!
Brought it home, plug it in to charge a bit - said do not disconnect for a couple hours so I finally disconnected it. I could see the menus so it was working at this point.
Then I ran THE DREADED IPOD UPDATER!
Firmware update failure - disc write error!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!
Boom, right back to where I was with the first one. Can only either get 1) the folder of doom (explamation mark folder) or 2) disc mode; do not disconnect to show up.
Itunes 6.05 (reinstalled several times at this point) wont see it.
Ipod updater will come back with 'cannot continue because another app is using the the ipod' - except it has given me this message even when the ipod is not connnected!
I have tried pluggin in ipod with just itunes going, just the updater going, nothing going and starting itunes and nothing going and starting the updater. I have swapped the usb cable. I have stood on my head and whistled a tune.
Nothing works.
I have gone thru the 'when your itunes does not see your ipod while windows does page' to no avail. I am not going to reinstall windows on a machine that is working perfectly well. Basically, these issues all started when I downloaded the newest ipod updater.
I am going to see if I can get an older copy or something but this is downright ridiculous. I have spent basically 3 hours tonight shutdown/restarting and searching for the phone number to call for my 90 days or support call to no avail on the website.

Hey there,
So I finally got the itunes 6.05 installed on the office machine as well as the ipodupdater 6/28/06.
I started itunes. I started the updater and it said hook up an ipod to update. I hooked up the ipod and after a bit (1 minute) I was given the option to restore (but not update). I choose restore and after about 2 mins it was restored and progress bar on ipod had moved as well as on the main computer screen. Then it showed the menu briefly (yea!) but then went to do not disconnect mode (boo). Fortunately, after another few minutes I was given the option to name the ipod on the main computer and then after that the ipod went back to its menu screen so I quick unplugged it.
So now I am back where I was when I took it from the shop the other day. Now to see if I can get songs on it tonight at home.

my ipod updated overnight and erased all content on it.
every single app i had would not open.
and now when i go to sign into my itunes account it keeps telling me i'm entering my password wrong.
i just accessed my account last night.. please can someone explain?

i had to make this account just so i can figure out anything with my ipod. it almost seems like my account never existed. it can't find my email address or anything..
i don't even like this iOS 5.0.1 crap!
