Ipod update and lost of all music

I updated the lastest version of itunes from my ipod touch which lead to my ipod being restored. Now all my music is gone but it shows up on the computer when I connect my ipod in the purchased folder. How do I get the music back onto my ipod without having to re-purchase?

Haven't you already posted this same question?
Help!
No need to do so twice.
If the music is in itunes on your computer as it should be, then just sync it to the ipod as you would anything else.

I supsect you did the update on other than your syncing computer. If yu did the app, music and synced photo will not be on the iPod after the update since those items are not in the backup that iTunes makes. See:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
The above applies to all updates performedvia USB on a computer. To get stuff back, restore from backup on the syncing computer.
The above in my educated guess since you provided litle information about how you did the update.
You can redownload many iTunes purchases by:

  • Ipod updating and deleting all my songs

    hi
i have a ipod 30gb video now i have had it for a while now 2 months or so it recently asked me if i wanted to update my ipod i said no since i heard it would delete all my songs so one day i plug in my ipod and it just updates it and deletes all my songs without asking me or anything has anyone else had this happen? I think a couple of thigns are wrong with this. First of all surely there is a way to update it without deleting all your music
itunes should ask you about the update and inform you that the update will delete all your songs
i know i probably should have kept a backup of my music but i didnt expect it to just delete all my music without asking i dont have much disk space i so deleted my music when i put it on my ipod so has anyone else had something like this happen?

Your post is a little confusing, assuming that you use the word "update" as in update the software and not update the songs.
Updating the iPod software does not delete the contents. The iPod software cannot be updated without you first running the iPod updater and clicking on "update". I does not do it itself.
How do you transfer songs from iTunes to the iPod? Automatically or manually?

  • Ipod is synced but not all music will play. The music shows on the Ipod but not highlighted and cannot click to play.

Ipod is synced but not all music will play. The music shows on the Ipod but not highlighted and cannot click to play.

Provided the music plays in iTunes on the computer
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I have collected alot of music over the years and the new update will delete all my music.  I have puchased a new computer about a year ago so the previous music that I have is not available.  Is there anyway to get the update and not lose all my music

I have collected alot of music over the past couple years and the new update for the itouch says that it will erase all music and videos on the ipod.  Is there anyway to do the update and not lose all my music or is there a way to take all the music off my ipod and store it on my computer to put back on after the update?  Any help

... I have had numerous computers over the past years
Let me guess, you have had numerous Windows computers, all of which crashed or became worthless virus-ridden junk. Happens every day, yet people think Macs are expensive.
Anyway, you are going to need the assistance of third party utilities to extract your iPod Touch's content. See wjosten's procedure here:

  • Ipod updates and im on a different comp

i plugged the ipod into the computer and then there was an update for the software on the ipod. i let the software on the ipod update and then it took all of the songs off of the ipod to make way for the new software. now the songs that i had on the ipod were on a different computer and that computer is not working anymore and i wasnt able to transfer the music to the new computer. can anyone help me figure this out. thank you for your time.

If you installed the new software on your iPod, that (as I believe it warns you) erases everything on your iPod. Once that's done the iPod is blank; no recovery of content is possible. If you can't get the tracks off of your old computer by any means, then you're stuck and will have to reimport your CDs and restore any purchased content from your backups (you did make backups of your iTunes purchases, I hope).
But did the hard drive in the old computer fail? If not you should be able to remove the hard drive, mount it in an external case, and connect it to your new computer. You should then be able get the tracks into iTunes and then onto your iPod.

  • Just downloaded an update and it deleted all of my songs.

I just downloaded an update for my iPod (60g) and iTunes also. When I go into my iPod in iTunes the songs I just added today are grey, theres a lock symbol where it says the memory space, and all of my other songs are gone. I really hope that theres a way to recover these.
    Thanks for any help.
Edit: Also, in the area where it usually shows what music is playing, it just says "iPod update is complete." all the time. I've restarted iTunes, iPod, and my computer.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Try this:
Go to "Preferences -> iPod" in iTunes. You are probably on one of the "automatic" settings. If you want your songs to be un-greyed and the little lock symbol at the bottom to be gone, then change your setting to "manually manage songs".
On this setting, to transfer songs to your iPod, you'll have to select them in iTunes library, then drag-and-drop them over into your iPod in the left source panel of iTunes.
On the "manual" setting, you'll have to manually eject your iPod before unplugging it (on the automatic setting, this is different). If you want to eject your iPod through iTunes, then click on the little arrow that's next to your iPod's name.
Normally (if "disk use" isn't enabled), when the update on your iPod in iTunes is complete, iTunes will automatically eject your iPod.
If it doesn't automatically eject your iPod (it sounds like that's what it did in your case), then right-click on your iPod's name, and un-check "enable disk use" option. iTunes should automatically eject your iPod (iPod should then stop displaying "do not disconnect".
I hope this helps and answers the question,

    - Make sure that the iPod is fully seated in the dock.
    - Does the manufacturer of the dock say it will work with your specific model iPod touch and its iOS? Not all dock work with all models and iOSs. Users have reported that when the updated the iOS on their iPod and broke compatibility.

  • When I reboot, it hangs on fsck, although disk reports no errors.

I have a 2011 iMac running lion. When I reboot, it hangs on fsck. If I boot in single user mode, fsck -fy runs with no errors. If I boot from the recovery disk and run disk utility, it also yeilds no errors. This only happens when I reboot normally.
