Ipod Update Won't Work (Version 1.2)

I finally got the new Itunes 7.0 installed, and after plugging in my Ipod and trying to install the new Ipod updates INTO my Ipod, I am getting an error (Error 1417), and I can't update my IPod. This is getting very annoying... Apple has definitely disappointed me... I've never been able to use my Ipod correctly and if nothing works I'm just going to return it.

If you have any security software installed on your computer, try disabling it. This includes Symantec, Norton, McAfee, TrendMicro, Kaspersky, etc...

  • IPOD updater won't work

The recent updater won't work for my ipod mini. It downloads and opens, but after I select Macintosh HD to dl it in, the next page where you can select what you want to install won't let me select. WHat's going on?

Is your antivirus software enabled? Do you have a fire wall on? Disable your antivirus software, try again and when you are done updating then enable your antivirus back on.
    See if that works.

  • IPod Updater Won't Work. Please Help!!!!!!!

    HI!!!,
i tried opening up the iPod updater 2006-03-23 but when it does open up it says. 'iPod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' and then the choices Debug, Send Error Report And Don't Send.
    What Should I Do:
P.S. It Said The Same message Error For iPod Updater 2005-10-12
    So can You Please help.
    many thanks In Advance
    Cheers,
    Ilbron

The iPod updater is now contained in iTunes version 7 or later. Why not use that?
Maybe Apple are not hosting the older standalone updaters any longer.

  • Ipod updater won't work; ipod won't reinstall

After re-installing my itunes, it won't update my ipod. I was advised to restore the settings to shop settings and so have downloaded the ipod updater - but when I try to run it, as I wait for the 'update'/'restore' screen to come live, I get an error message, which I have to click 'ok' and the whole thing goes off.
Meanwhile on the ipod, I'm either getting the unhappy ipod icon, of a thing which looks half like a battery and half a black zig-zag.
    Help!

I also have the same problem since I did the iTunes download to '5', I also have the error message which reads; "The iPod Cannot be updated. An unknown error occured(-50)" The iPod has even been back for repair 3 times, but no fault was found. I have established that the fault is with Apple's iTunes download of '5' which has not been cured by downloading number 6. So when will they write a 'fix'? The effect of this download on my other computer has been that iTunes itself will not open. (See the discussion forum on this problem, it is huge, but still no 'fix' from Apple). I now have an empty iPod, and iTunes that will not do its job. Not impressed, my husband has ditched his iPod and bought a Sony. If this is not sorted out soon I will be doing the same.

  • Ipod update won't work

Whenever I try to update my ipod with the 1.3 software, it says my internet isn't connected. It is totally connected. I can go online and even access the itunes store. But when I click on update, it says 'make sure your network connection and try again'. Sorry if this is more of an itunes question.. Anyone know why?

  • New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3 says it needs 11.1 but I cannot load that on my macbook using OSX 10.5.8 any way around this?

New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3, says it needs 11.1 or newer but I cannot load that onto my MacBook running on OSX 10.5.8 - is there anyway around this?

No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.
    You can get 10.6.8 here:

in this context, there's a couple of different things that could be causing that error.
    (1) you can get it sometimes if you try to uninstall the updater from a different XP user account from which the updater was installed, or try to install a higher version of the updater in a different user account from a lower version.
so if you've got several different user accounts on that PC, see if you can find the account in which the updater was originally installed, and try to uninstall it from there.
    (2) if you can't uninstall the updater from any account (or you don't have multiple user accounts on that PC), the installation configuration information for the existing updater may be compromised.
in that case, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and use it to clear the things called either iPod for Windows or iPod Updater. (my 2004-11-15 version of the updater shows up in Windows CleanUp as "iPod Updater", but my three later versions show up as "iPod for Windows".)

once the previous updater has been cleared, will the install of the new updater go through properly?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • IPod function won't work on iPhone 4

My iPod application won't work on the iPhone 4. I can play YouTube videos, listen to previews on iTunes, but for some reason whenever I hit the play button on a song in iTunes it doesn't start on any of my songs. I've tried the lyrics app to play music, I've tried powering off and restoring it by holding home and power down and still nothing, help!

Read in another thread a solution that worked for me. Basically, you need to delete the music from the phone and re-copy from iTunes with 2 syncs. In the music tab, uncheck the boxes in the playlist, artist and genre option, removing all music from the phone, then sync. Then, re-check the desired music to copy back to the phone and sync. Music should play now from the phone.
I echo the sentiment of another poster that iOS4 really is a disaster. Problem like this should have been solved before release.

  • Power button on ipod touch won't work?

The Power button on my ipod touch won't work at all, any suggestions?

Okay it says here https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do that your warranty has expired, my recomendation is to either clean it out with a needle, or just keep pushing it hoping it will un-stick.

  • Firmware update won't work after you've tried the Narf/Blanka method?

Many ppl have reported that their Firmware update won't work after they've tried the Narf/Blanka method for Dualbooting Windows. [For some reason, it doesn't).
Formatting the startup, reinstall etc WILL work ... because of what our friend says here : http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2076211#2076211
Fortunately, it isn't necessary To Reformat etc... (at least for the firmware update) Apparently, as long you boot from a different Disk to the one you've 'messed with' - such as , say, an external FW Drive, the Firmware updater works.
Had the same problems, same reasons on a 20". Booting from external FW Drive made it happen for me.
May someone be helped by this e-missive....

Sorry: the above is (partly) wrong ... - it'll get you past the firmware update but won't get you past the Boot Camp Assistant ... - it wants to see a single partition No matter what ...
[Just for that, I'm gonna see if I can mess with the 'can't do this on an external drive' requirement ... by moving an external to internal then back out again grin)
    best of luck...

  • The 2.1.3 Software update won't work, the new version of iTunes won't download. Please help.

For several months now I have not been able to find a solution to either of these two problems. When I have the Apple Software Update program open and I click update, it loads for a second and then goes back to the usual page saying to update. It will not update. I have also tried, multiple times, to install the new current version of iTunes and that won't work either. I've tried to repair iTunes by going to Control Panel > Programs > Repair and it still won't work. Please help because I'm trying to download a new app but it requires the new version of iTunes. I am using a Windows Vista and I'm this is for my 4th generation iPod touch.

Did you try simply downloading the latest version of iTunes using the link below and then installing it on top of the older version?

  • Installed latest update, and now ipod touch won't work

Hello, I clicked on the download and install option for the latest update to my ipod touch. I think it was 2.2.1, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, now I have to hold the power button down several seconds, and I see the apple logo, and then the itunes icon with the USB plug which indicates I need to connect to itunes. When I plug it in to the pc, I get prompted that I have installed new hardware and need to install the device drivers. It is not recognized by itunes or my pc. Please help!!

Hello, all, my ipod touch is now working. Here's what happened...I called the tech support line and started going through the automated stuff. It started me with the reset which I had done numerous time. It then mentioned trying a different USB port. I figured it was a waste of time, but then I decided what the heck, so I tried the other usb port on the front of my pc. When I did this, it recognized the ipod in ituned and gave me a mssg that it needed to be restored. I clicked on the restore link, and minutes later it gave me an error message on the restore, and the ipod showed the apple on the sreen instead of the itunes logo with the usb cord. I then tried it back in the original usb port, and received the same windows prompt to try to install drivers that I had been getting all along. I put it back in the second USB port, and got the restore message again with it being recognized in itunes. This time it successfully completed the restore. I know it sounds simple, but if you have not tried a different USB port, be sure you do. Maybe the download jacked up my USB port? Anyway, I'm working again with the 2.2.1 download. Good luck to all!!

  • Updated software failed...iPod touch won't work now

I hooked my ipod touch to the computer & through itunes updated to the latest version. The update failed. Left it overnight & update still not done. Checked apple website. Said to restart computer. Now ipod when turned on has the itunes symbol with the usb plug picture. Started itunes & it said update failed you need to restore your ipod. How can I avoid this? It will erase everything on there. What about the apps I paid for?

If you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased them, you can redownload apps at no additional cost.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
The fist part of the update process is for iTunes to make a backup of your iPod. If that was successful (look at date in iTunes preferences in Devices) then restoring from your backup together with syncing should restore you iPod to like it was when it was backed up.
