Ipod updated to 1.2.1 now nothing shows up on my ipod, all music gone?

After constantly being told that a new ipod version was availble, I decided to go ahead and update, I made this mistake before and apparently did not learn my lesson.
Advice to others, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I selected the option to let the updater go ahead and download and install the ipod update.
I let the installer go ahead and do it's thing.
I came back awhile later and it appeared as though the update was complete, so I ejected my ipod, powerded it down, put it in its case and took it to work.
When I got to work and turned on my ipod and went to artists
all that showed up was "ALL" and nothing else no playlists, no albums, no songs, no nothing like everything was erased.
I had about 60 megs worth of songs on the ipod before the update.
Where did everything go????
Did anyone else have this problem?
Is everything still there and I just need to do something for it all to show up again?
Or, is everything really gone and has been erased?
Boy, Once I get this resolved and my ipod working again,
I will never update again unless I have no choice.
Thanks so much for any help offered!

I have a nearly similar problem with my 20G iPod with photo display. The only difference seems to be that mine does not appear to be caused by the update to 1.2.1. I updated long ago and had no problems. Now I constantly need to reset. My iPod just stops working, usually after clicking to play a song it will just start and not play and not pause and not allow me to select another song. So I have to reset, and reset....
I did a restore too, but the problems continued.
Then recently it started having the same trouble you are having. First, it showed nothing on the iPod and I just assumed I'd have to sync it to iTunes when I got home. But then it seemed that the songs were there after another reset. Anyway, it did start working again, that is, back to playing for awhile and then needing to be reset. I started searching here to see if this is battery problem or hard drive problem. My ipod is about 2 1/2 years old, no prior problems.
Right Now, it is in the same state yours is in: my About page shows:
Songs: 0
Photos: 0
Capacity: 18.5 GB
Available: 5.5 GB
Version: 1.2.1
Like yours, it is clear that the hard drive is full of information, it is just not able to access it. It may well be a software issue, since that would explain why the hard drive has music on it, but a software problem is not letting us access it.
I thought perhaps with the age of mine it could be the hard drive, but who knows. My iPod is making alot of noises as it goes through its resetting, and when connected to my iBook. Noises it did not use to make, which makes me think it's asking to be put out of it's misery. I'm thinking I'm going to have to take it the Apple Store, but I did want to first see if anyone else had this problem. We also have a 30G Video iPod syncing on the same iBook with updated software, nad it has no problems.
If I do take it to Apple I will submit an update.

Thunderbird just done an update on my computer but now in e mails iv`e lost all my folders I had, For example I had a folder for my receits and other e mails I wanted to keep.

can you provide a bit more info before you do anything.
I'm presuming this is a pop mail account - please confirm.
First, make sure hidden files and folders are visible:
The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'show folder' button
    * click on 'Mail' folder.
    * Please post image of the contents of the 'Mail' folder.
    In thunderbird:
    * right click on mail account name and select 'Settings'
    * Select 'Server Settings' for the mail account
    * Look bottom right for 'Local directory'.
    * Put mouse cursor in the text box, then use keyboard arrow keys to navigate to the far right..some of the directory will be hidden as it does not fit it all in, so keep going to the right until you reach the end.
    * Then left click, hold down and move mouse to the left to highlight the entire entry.
    * Right click on highlighted area and select Copy.
    * Paste info into this question in the forum.

Right click on the .exe file and select run as admin. This will allow it to run all the processes it needs and should help it work. If the problem is not fixed you should try waiting till a new update, that often fixes ios issues.
On other problem could be a hardware issue, try a new cable and use it in a different USB socket.

I had my front screen replaced. Now nothing shows up on the screen, as if the phone was turned off. Help, please.

Replaced where?  If it was done by anyone other than Apple the warranty has been voided.
Regardless, the screen replacement was obviously not successful.  Take the device back to whomever replaced the screen and address the issue with them.

  • Swapped hard drives, now nothing shows up in iTunes

I recently upgraded my computer from an 80GB drive to a 250GB drive. I connected the 250GB drive and turned the 80GB into a USB backup for my music and movies. The 80GB drive is where my music used to live. It was the D: drive, and when I connected the new 250GB drive, I name it D: and changed the 80GB to E. I then copied all of my music and movies to the new, 250GB D: drive. When I launched iTunes, nothing was there. I tried importing my music, but the podcasts, movies, TV Shows, etc are all still gone.
How can I get back to where I was before I swapped drives?

  • ITunes cannot read contents of iPod - all music seems to have dissapeared

    Hello,
I've had a 160 GB classic iPod for a bit more than a year (so out of warranty) and hadn't had this problem before until today. When I connect it to my computer iTunes sends a message saying it cannot read its contents and asks to restore it. If I do I loose the 100+ GB music I have on it, if I don't when I disconnect the iPod from the computer, it says there is no music, although the space is occupied (only less than 60 GB free space). I've restored and reloaded my iPod several times, and every time I connect it to iTunes the same thing happens. I should mention that I have iTunes set up in manual mode, and that the problem happens only after I play something on the iPod disconnected from the computer (that is, if I connect it and disconnect it, things are fine, until I try to play something on the iPod).
Can anyone help me? After reloading my iPod with music I'm afraid of connecting it to the computer and losing everything, but I cannot load new stuff on it any other way.
    Thanks!

*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

If your iPod checks out OK try this tip for rebuilding it...
    *Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music or whatever playlist holds the bulk of the content you want on your device. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

  • All music gone after update

After updating yesterday I clicked on iTunes and all my music is gone. No playlist. This happened a few weeks ago while using the old version. I took the laptop into the Geeks and they were able to find my music on my backup drive. They said they could not help me today because of the new update. I don't understand why this keeps happening. • ITunes Match - Nothing showing on my iPhone - tried all the basics

I have a fair bit of experience with iDevices and have been running Match from the day it was released so I have had a number of glitches which are usually sorted by either switching itunes match on and off, signing into iTunes numerous times, wiping your device etc....
I have recently switched iTunes Match off on my phone in order to wipe it and then back on.. Once back on no music would show. I have tried all the steps listed above, and still once the large cloud with the loading bar dissapears (after showing no loading) there is nothing in my library.
I can confirm that my iTunes is showing all my songs on multiple computers, all 17000 of them.
I am working on a 10mb/s confirmed internet connection,
    Please Help.
PS. Loving Apple's offerings, but they don't seem to be hitting the level of quality and service that one would expect when paying the premiums Apple demand.

  • Updated to IOS 7 and now itunes will no longer sync my entire music library

I just got off the phone with an Apple Senior advisor.  I advises that I had just updated to IOS7 and was synching my iPad only to find out that it would not synch any music that was not downloaded through itunes. I have 865 songs that I have accumulated over the years by burning cds and adding them to my itunes library.  Never have I had an issue with itunes synching the songs but now it appears that Apple is only going to support songs that you purchase through itunes.  Can someone give me some direction on how to transfer the songs that I have on my ipad to my itunes library since synching with IOS7 will completely wipe out my library. I have Ipad 2, iPod Touch and an original iPod.

when you open the sync option go to pictures and make sure all of them are checked
