IPOD Updater 1.1.1 Killed my IPOD

Beware....
I updated my IPOD tonight, and when the update was complete my IPOD froze with the Apple logo on the screen. I waited a couple of minutes, but no change. I then rebooted my IPOD, and now, its dead. The backlight comes on, but there is nothing on the display.
This is most dissapointing...
Any advice anyone?

Yes,
1.Reset your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle.
Did that, Ipod gives 3 beeps and return to white screen.
2.Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
Same.
3.Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
Same.
4.Reinstall your iPod and iTunes software. You can download the latest versions of iPod Updater and iTunes from our website.
The Updater/Windows does not see my Ipod.
5.Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater. Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.
The Updater (Windows does) does not see my Ipod.

Double tap the home button.  Slide the preview window upward.  You can do 2 at a time.
It's rarely useful or necessary to do this. Very few apps actually "run in the background" (such as audio streaming and navigation apps).  The vast majority are frozen and consume no resources.  The iOS manages memory for you to optimize running apps.

  • IPod Updater 2006-06-28 killed 2GB Nano and a 30GB Video iPod

Both were bought in december 2005, I was impressed as they both have worked totally perfect until Monday, plugged fully charged hardley used 30GB Video into front USB on a G5 1.6, iTunes booted and a box appeared saying iPod needed update, so I clicked ok, it then said update was succesful. iPod rebooted, Mac an iTunes no longer recognised the iPod? so I did a reset, this sorted the problem and it seemed to work fine. My daughter then wanted to plug in her Nano, so she did, I unplugged the 30GB as it was fully charged and turned it off , plugged in the nano an thought it was ok to also update, the update worked fine and rebooted straight onto the desktop an also in iTunes, we left it to recharge fully before ejecting an turning off. I then plugged the 30GB back into USB, Mac/iTunes would not recognise again? Tried to complete the 5Rs managed the first 4 but as I could not mount the iPod, I could not Restore! Tried on Powerbook, nothing apart from no charge icon! but it would no longer charge and was totally flat without any use? plugged it in to wall charger for 3 hrs, would turn on but straight away said that the iPod needed charging? Then my daughter said she could not turn Nano on, this is now totally and completely dead? nothing at all happens even when plugged into wall socket? this is too much to be a coincidence, it must be the update that has somehow fried the batteries? they are both still under warrenty so I have ordered support online and Im waiting for my boxes, but I just would like to know if anyone else out there has had simular problems? or if anyone can shine any light or information about this? I have been a total Machead for 16 years but this has just cast a shadow on my experience! :-|

I too have had almost the identical problem. I did the update and the next time I plugged the Ipod in a lot of my library was missing and I received a corrupt database error message. I have tried everything conceivable to restore my Ipod video 30 GB but It keeps locking up. I occasionally will get it to boot up but it will only stay on for a maximum of about 3 minutes and then locks up. I have tried the 5R's and tried putting it in disk mode. I have tried the diagnostic mode which also locks up. Most of the time I get a message after resetting the ipod that I need to restore using iTunes and then it shuts off. The only way I can turn on the thing in the first place is by doing a reset. I think Apple has some explaining to do. I have seen quite a few posts of the same problem which seems to be attributed to the update. I suppose that I will be sending mine in for service. Probably would be a good idea to call customer service first, even though they probably will charge me for the call.

  • New Updater (2006-06-01) killed my iPod

I have a 40gig iPod (bought in dec of 2004), which has been rendered useless by the new updater. Whatever you do, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE NEW UPDATER!!!

yes, we have many of these threads. why don't you try downgrading with an older update software?

  • The update ios 6.01 killed my iphone 4s. How do I fix this

I started the update as suggested last night and things were fine and then all of a sudden my the only thing that would come up on my screen is the itunes logo and with the cord. I plugged into my computer and pulled up itunes to get the fix and then my computer would not recognize not only my iphone but my ipod as well. I started the recovery process before this happened and now my phone is stuck in the middle of the recovery process and I can't get past this.. Is my phone dead, do I need to take it to a fix it shop ?

Then you should try recreating your iTunes library
    Close itunes
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes folder (this is the folder that contains the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files).
    Microsoft Windows 7
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\
    3. Open your iTunes folder.
    4. Drag the "iTunes Library.xml" and "iTunes Library.itl" files to the Desktop.
    6. Open iTunes. - it should be empty
    7. Go back to your My music\iTunes folder, and you should see a iTunes media folder you will want to re-add that back in to iTunes.
    8. Then Try resyncing

  • Did the Itunes update fiasco of 2014 kill my sound card?

I have read every post regarding  this Apple fiasco but this has been a perfect storm of Apple failure for  me, the only reason I opened my Itunes 2 nights ago was because my Ipod  of 5 years died and I had to buy a new one, so my love for Apple has  diminished greatly in the last 24 hours.
Running: Microsoft windows XP media center edition version 2002 service pack 3.
I  know enough about computers to be dangerous, I may have deleted  something for the sound card trying to get this Itunes re-install to work. I've been able  to follow everything posted like:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822688?tstart=30 I have deleted EVERYTHING more than once, restarted MORE than once, I  even tried loading an older version of Itunes, but the problem I'm  running into is my sound card can't or won't be detected, it was working  fine before this fiasco so I'm not sure if it's the re-install that has  caused it to be undetected or maybe it just died at the perfect time. I  keep getting this message: I tunes has detected a problem with your aiudio/video configuration and playback may not operate properly.  I  can see video but no sound, I can get into my Itunes library but  nothing will play, my sound card doesn't even show up in my devices  section anymore.
I  read a post that said something about messing with the msconfig and the  inetcpl.cpl and the dxdiag in the START/RUN area so I may have done  something stupid.
    HELP! (Apple hate) HELP!

THe update messed up my 80gb too. I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple care yesterday - and they screwed it up even worse. (I manage music & video from my home computer and my calander from my work computer.) It used to work fine - now I can't even get my work computer to recognize the ipod as a USB drive! If they would just re-post 7.5, I think I could fix it myself - but they took it off the site completely.
I told (both people at) Apple care that this is the kind of crap microsoft pulls. They send out updates with bugs. Apple is supposed to NOT do that! I am so mad right now! I just got this brand new ipod for Christmas.
Today, I am supposed to order my new laptop for work. I have been given the choice of PC or Mac. Until yesterday, I was gun-ho Mac. Now I'm not so sure. I mean - they couldn't fix my new ipod after an hour on the phone? What kind of issues am I going to have with a laptop? The closest Apple store is well over an hour away.
    Any suggestions??

  • Update 6.13 just killed two of my iPhone 4 what to do now?

I am not sure of error code, error showed when updating the phone. I think I found what was the problem thak killed two of my iphones 4's...USB 3.0. I have swiched to USB 2.0 and now restoring my phone, till now it took me over 90 min. I think it should be a warrning that this can happen, I do not know is this USB 3.0 on HP laptop issue or in general issue with USB 3.0 and iPhone. Anyhow I am not happy.

  • Last "Firmware update for WAN Adapters" kills XU870!

    Hello,
Like in Thread "Novatel XU870 and Apple's WWAN - No go in Europe ?" already posted:
    Be aware of this Firmware-Update!
Installing this will kill e.g. Novatel xu870.
I was using either Novatel Modemscripts to connect or Novamedia.de launch2net - with minor performance problems sometimes and rarely kernelpanics.
But now after "upgrading" via automated Softwareupdate the behavior is the same as described in the above thread:
"...when i insert the card the menu bar shows the card and then blinks, resets itself and keeps doing that until a kernel panic occurs.."
Please Apple update this update a.s.a.p. :-((
Even deleting WWan.menu or downgrading to version September 2006 does not solve this bug and I can´t ge used to the card anymore ´cause no software can find it now.
    thank you - gpf0815
    MBP17 2.33 2GB 200GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Update:
Tried to do a rollback from my previously cloned HDD of /System/Libray/Extensions/:
    - OptionQC.kext
    - MerlinHSDPADriver
    /System/Library/MenuExtensions/WWan.menu
After reboot I hat to reinstall original Novateldriver - but ended up in the same behavior:
WWan.menu is starting and blocking the card.
Now if I delete WWan.menu as root I can use the card at basic functionality but launch2net doesn´t see any modemport although beeing reinstalled, too.
btw: I did clone my entire system before softwareupdate to an external firewire HDD. I can boot from this HDD and everything is fine.
Please, Apple, either tell us how to do the rollback or fix it.
Doing "find / -mtime -2" is showing me too much files as if I could find out by try and error...

  • Update 1.1.2 killed my phone

I plugged my phone into its cradle, iTunes told me about 1.1.2, and I clicked the "Update" button.
Half an hour later I notice that iTunes still claimed it was "preparing iPhone for update".
The iphone's stuck in an endless reboot loop; plugging it into the cradle locks up iTunes to the point where I must reboot the Mac to kill it. The local (Reno) Apple store is closed for renovations.
I think I'm screwed, but if anyone has any suggestions...

most people believe that they will lose all their data with a restore and thats not the case. You get a backup.
Well ... you get all your data back IF you run a Sync before doing the Restore.
I get it that you get it and understand the process. There are some people on this forum who are not quite so technically savvy and perhaps a bit less experienced.
For those folks - who come here for assistance - it is important to be very clear on steps and processes. Restore erases everything on the phone, puts in a new version of the firmware, then replaces data from the most recent back up (sync).
You are correct. Restore does not destroy your data *IF you have a current back up* of all the data on the phone. But if the user does not have a current back up (sync) then it is possible to lose some data.
For the sake of the less experienced folks who visit this forum, we all need to try to be as clear as possible and we need to repeat basic instructions like "Back Up Everything" and "Do a current Sync before doing an Update or a Restore".
That way the inexperienced folks who depend on old pros like you will not make mistakes that haunt them and you will not be blamed for lost data.

  • Whenever an update for iPhone/Touch kills Airport Base Station temp.

I've seen this happen 3 times now. Restoring the iPhone somehow kills the Snow BS which requires a restart by unplugging it. The Airport Admin cannot even see it on any of the computers at home.
I've done 2 updates with iTunes now for 2.0 and 2.01. Each time the Snow Airport just stops transmitting. The lights are all on, but no machines finds it, unless I unplug the snow and reboot it. Anyone else see this happen?

If all else fails, you might need to perform a soft or hard reset to factory defaults, then you have to set everything up again, but it might restore it to working condition.
Not sure if this is the model base station that you have:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451
check the user guide that came with it, in case the procedure may be different.
    I hope that helps.
When I bought an "open-box" unit, the device was already set up by someone else with a password, and the hard reset allowed me to start from scratch so I could configure it.

  • Safari 4.1 Update seems to have killed my computer

Hey! I really hope someone can help.
I got the update notice for Safari 4.1 on my OS X 10.4.11 and updated. Now, Safari works really well, it's the rest of my computer that won't function. I've repaired disk permissions, and verified disk, both worked (no problems), but I cannot, cannot, cannot get into Finder, or most other programs. I can access System Preferences which, along with Disk Utility, I have in my Dock. One more symptom: when I do restart my computer, the top task bar does not appear until I open a program (Safari, Disk Utility, or System Preferences) and even after the program is closed, the task bar shows the last program, instead of the Finder bar.
Any suggestions shy of re-installing would be lovely. But, I'm suspecting a full re-install is necessary at this point...

    HI,
    Shy of reinstalling..
    Try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode
It takes a little longer to boot into Safe Mode just so you know. Once you are in Safe Mode go to the Apple Menu/Restart.
Safe Mode can fix some glitches if Disk Utility couldn't find any errors on the startup disk.
While you are in Safe Mode, check for available disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
*Another thing to check in Safe Mode is startup items*. Open System Preferences/Accounts - Login Items. If you have any apps listed, there delete them, then restart from the Apple Menu.

  • Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 and it killed all my 3rd party drivers

Hoping someone can help - my PC upgraded Windows 8.1 Pro (fresh install a few months ago) with the 'Update 1 patch' which was made available a few days ago.  It was done via Windows Update - I let it do its thing for about 15 minutes, restart etc.
Once the machine restarted, I noticed the following:
    - no network connection
    - no sound
    - no working camera
I went to the device manager and see a stack of 3rd-party devices with exclamation marks, all stating code 28 (the drivers for this device are not installed).  I go to each device and try to update the drivers - it looks like its going to work and then
gives the error "The system cannot find the file specified".
I do some googling and find the setupapi.dev.log.  The log for every device with a problem reads like this:

It seems like 'update 1' as crapped all over my driver store.
What can I do to fix this - I have tried a raft of things such as pnputil commands to add the driver INFs manually (they fail saying 'element not found'), but still I am stuck without sound, network and camera.
This will be the last time I let Microsoft update automatically install - it will now be 100% manual, and done after a few weeks to ensure there aren't bugs.

  • Update 10.5.4 killed built-in iSight.

I updated my MacBook Pro to update 10.5.4 and all seemed to work fine.... EXCEPT the built-in iSight is no longer showing up for applications (photo booth) or System Profiler. Anyone have any ideas. When I revert back to 10.5.2 (yes I do whole system updates when applying OS patches), the iSight is back. I used the full combo file patch.
    Any ideas or similar issues?
    Thanks,
    Tom

I just bought an isight and I'm having the same problem.
Nothing registers my isight (photobooth, ichat...).
The only information I've seen on blogs points to the 10.5.4 update.
I'm trying a repair process that requires a regress to 10.5.1, upgrade to 10.5.2, then special upgrade to 10.5.4 (combo I believe it's called).
    P.S.
    Dear Apple,
What's with all the software updates? I like you more when there were updates once a year. Now it's every week.
No, it's not every week. Leopard was released last November and there have been 4 OS updates in those 9 months - less than one ever two months.
The last OS update, 10.5.4 was released in June, several months ago.
Tiger is up to version 11 last time I checked. Tiger was released in 2005, so that's about an update every three months.
Also, nobody here works for Apple. You should phone or email them directly. This is a user-to-user forum.
If you supplied more details about your issue we might be able to help. You probably did not need to reinstall Leopard.
This post is about the built-in iSight, a completely different item. I suggest you start a new thread and repost your issue.

  • Software update seems to have killed my iBook

I installed the three new updates today (Safari, security and Airport updates) on both my machines. The iMac is still working fine but the iBook refuses to restart. It just hangs on the grey "spinning gear" screen. I have managed to start up from the Leopard disc and repair the HD. I also tried repairing permissions on the HD while in that state but that also hung for ages with no progress. I can't start in safe mode either.
    1. Is it just me with a problem or are other Macs (especially iBook G4s) affected by these updates?
    2. What can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

    For blingkerching and chrisram90:
If you put your Leopard DVD into the drive and then power up while holding c (hold it until the spinning gear and grey Apple logo appears), you will then go into the OSX installer on the disk. If you choose to install and select "archive and install" when prompted (when I did it this was the suggested option as I was replacing a newer version of OSX) it will reinstall OSX and restore all your settings, applications, data etc. Well, it worked that way for me anyway. I also backed up onto my iMac beforehand (using the iBook in target disk mode) in case it all went wrong but as it worked out I didn't need the backup after all.
The iBook is now working perfectly as if nothing had ever happened.
Just be aware that when reinstalling, the estimated time will tick down steadily then the last minute will actually take ages (mine took about 20 minutes!) - this is because that's when it's restoring all your stuff. Don't be alarmed that it seems to be hanging just as it's about to finish. It will get there eventually!
    I hope this is helpful.
