IPod Updater 2005-09-23

My updater will not recognize my 30 g iPod now. I updated iTunes to the 5.0.1 version and it recognizes my iPod fine now, however said that it could not download some some songs because the software on my iPod needed to be updated. I installed the updated iPod Updater and now IT says that my iPod is not supported. Does anyone know what the deal is with this?

I just downloaded the new iPod Updater 2005-09-23, trying to run the installation package, I get stuck on the "select a destination volume to install the software window"
Can't install it on my iPod (where it is mend to go I believe??????, it is after all an iPod updater?????). And the reason it gives is that i need Mac OS 10.2.8 or higher. But I run 10.3.9, which, by my calculations, is higher.
And when I choose to install on my HD, neither of the 2 options (System UI Server or iPod Updater 2005-09-23) highlight the install button.
So I am stuck.
When I open ITunes, it constantly tells me to install the software, otherwise I won't be able to copy songs I bought on iTunes to my Ipod.
On top of that, the software that is on my Ipod at the moment, is version 2.2, which, apperently is up to date. (?)
Please help!!!!!!!!!!

It should be on the CD that came with your ipod. If you're using Windows (don't know about macs), the updater installer keeps the previous versions which should be in your Start button.
The original updater that came with most ipods may have an earlier date, but it's the same 1.0. Each updater services multiple ipod models, so just because the updater date changes, it doesn't necessarily mean that anything changed for your particular ipod. There's only been one update for the ipod 5G which is 1.1. Any version you have before that one will be the same.
Check out your CD.

I have the iPOD Updator 2005-10-12 version on iPOD 30GB White Video. This is the default update, as I bought the iPOD very recently.
Should the iPOD be updated with the latest Updater software neccessarily or only if there is a bug or something doesnt work correctly in my iPOD should I update with new version of software?

The latest ipod s/w is meant for the shuffle. It has nothing new for the video so I would not bother updating.
To answer your question .. its never necessary to update the software as long as you are happy the way it works or there is some new feature on the update that you like

IPod Mini failed with iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9

Has anyone experienced iPod mini first generation failing completely (running low on batteries) after installing the iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9?
My iPod mini showed "Low battery sign please recharge" after being fully charged shortly after I installed the latest updater and iTunes 4.9. My iPod mini would show low battery status after playing 5 minutes or less. After several attempts to reinstall the latest update and iTunes software, I resolved the issue by reverting back to the original iPod Updater 2004-04-28 and iTunes 4.5. Now my iPod functions as before with the expected battery life.

Yeah, I didn't download it for that reason. I like my itunes the way they are. My iPod didn't work with the other one. So, I restored it. I don't plan to change my iTunes until i know for sure the new one is fool proof.

I need help. I'm currently updating my ipod mini (actually since 1am this morning) and it's still updating. How long does this take? Secondly I can no longer see my ipod mini in itunes. It's all grayed out. The ipod mini is displaying do not disconnect, while the updater 2005-09-23 states that 1.4 is up to date. Can anyone help

Error with updating via ipod updater 2005-10-12

I have just got a new ipod 4th generation 20gig. The first thing i did was charge it up it went fine. It was working okay and i could get into the main ipod settings such as the language settings the music playlist etc.
I instaled itunes first, then i installed the ipod update FROM http://www.apple.com/ipod/download and opened it up. WHen i did open it up i got this message.

There is no way that i can update because the button isn't highlighted, and therefore i tried restoring it. I did then i got an error saying something about the firmwire or something is corrupt. I can't remember the exactl phrase. So when i tried to turn on the ipod i got a little folder icon with a yellow exclamation mark sign.
Since then i can't get into the music playlist and i can't restart the ipod.
And ideas, cos i am really annoyed.

I have fixed the problem.
I must have done this about a hundred times but on the 100th time it worked.
I did a windows quick format, then instantly did a ipod restore using the ipod updater. And it worked. Useually it would just mess up at the ipod restore part. Anyway, i had to plug it into a mains to flash it, not its back to normal.
Weird how i tried so many times and it didn't work the first time.

Why does Apple release an iPod Updater when a new iPod comes out? Isn't the iPod already up to date when it is released? I assume this is for the Mac side of things?

If you format your 5G i pod...
you would be able to revert to factory default load.
I have a 1G Ipod it will only hold one audible.com account license at a time. When I switch accounts I have to format Ipod then use ipod updater to revert.

Brand new Nano. Downloaded iTunes. Downloaded the ipod updater. iTunes says 'software to communicate with ipod isn't working. Reinstall iTunes'. did that (twice). Updater yields 'ipod service error.' Called tech support. Turned off firewalls. Did it all again. Still doesn't work. Anybody else figured this out?

IPod Updater 2005-09-23 Update error

I have recently used the Apple iPod updater to update my click-wheel 40gig iPod, that is - I tried!
After pressing the update buttom everything went ok until I got a casual 'update error' message. Now I get the neat folder with an exclamation mark on my screen when I start the iPod and it is recognized by neither Windows nor Mac notebooks (or recognized as unformatted)!
I only have the option of 'restoring' i.e. formatting the drive. My Problem with this is that I have quite a few photos I took during a recent holiday in the Middle East on there (apart from the music I collected during the last year :-&.), because until Tuesday I only had notebook with a meagerly 10GB HDD.
Is there any way I can recover my files / revert to the previous software version?
The 'Geniuses' in the Apple Store London were pretty clueless behind their 'Genius-Bar' and looked like they could really use a drink (sadly not on offer at this bar...)
I upgraded from software version 3.0.2 if I remember correctly.
I really appreciate any help I can get!

It's a click wheel 40 GB iPod (b&w) and I updated from software version 3.0.2 - I think if it wasn't supported, the updater should not have started updating it!
What I am essentially looking for is a way to recover the data on my iPod...

ITunes 5 and iPod update 2005-09-06

I have a 15GB iPod with the dock connector and have been using it fine until yesterday when I updated to itunes 5.0 and basically lost 90% of the music I had on my iPod. The message told me my software was too old so I went and updated the iPod software to 2005-09-06 abd I still get the same message and have lost the ability to get the music from my itunes library back on my iPod. Anyone with the same problem or a possible solution?

With my 15GB iPod plugged in, I went to the Utilities folder in Applications and clicked the 2005-06-26 updater. As soon as it was done running, iTunes started transferring all of my purchased music back to my iPod.
I think I'll hold off on the 2005-09-06 update until next week, just to be safe for the weekend.

I ran the latest updater on my fully charged monochrome screen IPOD 4?th generation and after it finished wiping my IPOD The IPOD is not recognized by the updater or the Systems software 2.0.1 install program. In the Windows task manager the IPODSERVICE.EXE does appear on the process list. All it does is flash the little icon asking you to plug an adapter into the wall. I have always used the usb cable to recharge. I have tried all the solutions on Apple's web site I have plugged it into all 4 of my USB ports with no luck. Do you think buying the firewire wall charger would do any good. It was fully charged before I ran the updater but now when I run the updater the splash window keeps asking me to plug in the IPOD. Any help anyone can be would be greatly appreciated. I have looked all over the web and am at the end of my rope.
