Ipod updater 6-28-06 = dead ipod?

Hey guys,
So I tried to update my iPod with the new 6-28-06 updater. Everything went fine until it gave me an error towards the end of the update. The iPod was sitting on my desk and there were absolutely no movement between the iPod and the cable.
Soo.. the iPod gives me this exclamation mark and a folder when I turn it on. I can't even get my computer to see it as a readable disk (I have disk mode enabled). When I click on the drive, it tells me it needs to be formatted.
So, what can I do from here? I don't have my music backed up since I just formatted my desktop. This *****.
I've tried resetting, and going into disk mode with zero luck. I've tried reupdating with no luck either. Any tips? I trusted Apple's updater!!!

I think it definitely has something to do with the update. If I have a 2nd Gen 20GB iPod that's been working fine forever, and mysteriously these problems started after the last update.
If I connect using a firewire cable, it simply charges but doesn't show up on the compuer AND the computer will randomly crash, and I mean crash like the old OS 9 days. If I use a USB cable, it shows up on the computer, but doesn't charge and is drained in less than 5 minutes.
I've tried downgrading my iPod firmware thinking that might help, but it did not. I've tried different cables and ports, and that didn't help either. I have not tried reinstalling iTunes, and I am reluctant to do a Restore on my iPod for fear of ending up with an empty non-connecting iPod...
So hopefully some sort of solution will pop up soon?

Selecting update last night (from 6.0 to 6.01) on the Ipod Touch 32gb :  Serial No: dj6gf0f5dc..
Unit froze half way through updating.
Now has either a red screen or blue screen after various attempts to restart.
Have tried draining the power, connecting to a computer etc... nothing happening.
I'm guess the Apple Software update has bricked the ipod touch.
I've been a user, tech support, apple guy since my 512 in '88 - but I have never felt such ineptitude as with this little silver and black box.
    What a dissapointment.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Latest firmware update 6.3 and dead airport express basestation

My Airport Express basestation (aebs) is 13 month old. It suddenly went dead. No light, no reset, nothing.
    And maybe a coincidence:
It happened only 36 hours after I loaded the new 6.3 firmware update.
I wonder if anyone had the same experience regarding a dead aebs due to firmware update 6.3. At least - compared to the posts here - a dead aebs is not such a rare incident as one might wish it would.
      Mac OS X (10.4)

Exactly the same has happened to mine, although I don't recall doing a firmware update. Yesterday I just downloaded and installed iTunes 6.0.2 & QuickTime 7.0.4. However, when I came home from work this evening my Airport Express had no LED on as normal. It was cold and had obviously been off for sometime. The fuse it OK and it's just one month after the 1-year guarantee period. Sounds suspiciously like a plot to me....
What has Apple done to kill my Airport Express???

  • Zen Micro - firmware update failed so now "dead"

I have a firmware problem with my Zen Micro. Can anyone help?
The series of actions I have taken so far are these:
I got my Micro in January 2006. I now want to run Audible software to listen to their books so I downloaded the firmware update L6_2_2_02.exe from the Creative support site which is stated as providing the Audible?facility.
I backed up the Micro contents using Creative MeadiaSource Organiser. I then ran the firmware update from my Win XP PC. This started OK and I got a series of messages about what was happening. Then it stopped with the progress indicator bars about 2/3 across. I left it for half an hour and nothing changed so clicked to stop the update.
I checked the firmware version on the Micro and it said 2.2.02. The update?looked OK and the FM worked but of course I had no music content.
I opened my Creative MeadiaSource Organiser (v 3.0.09) but it said no device is connected so I was unable to reload the music. My XP PC recognised the Micro as connected and I checked Device Manager which showed the "device is working properly". I was also able to synch music to the Micro using Windows Media Player and this played OK. I tried another computer and could also synch using Windows Media Player but I wanted to reload my music from the backup.
I looked on the Creative site for the steps to take when a firmware update fails. The Zen Micro is not on the list as supporting the MP3 Player Recovery Tool so I did not use that. I followed the Reload Failure recovery instructions and ran Clean UP, then Format All, but this did not fix it so I ran Reload Firmware on the Micro. This was a big mistake!
Now when I try to run the firmware update from my Win XP PC, I select English then I get the message "Your player is not connected, please connect your player". I checked again and XP still recognises the Micro and the device is working. It is no longer recognised by Windows Media Player but just? appears to XP as an empty storage device.
The Micro now shows the firmware as v 0.0.65, but now it is stuck in Recovery Mode. I have contacted Creative Support but their reply is that this player is now over 3 years old, reached its end of service life, so there is no support other than on their web site. Following their web site recovery instructions got me into this mess so I guess?no extra help is offered from Creative.
The player is now essentially dead. Unless there is some way to get the firmware update program to recognise the device as connected, then I don't know how to fix this. This is a shame as it is a nice little player for my music collection.
Can anyone help as I don't know what to do next?

yesterday I was informed that an auto update had been done. for 6.blah.2 or something. I don't know. I was immersed in the constitution and Thomas Jefferson was waxing his ass. Anyway last night I shut down, all is well in the world. This morning I try to log on to see if my prof has any news for me...nothing. You know, no coffee, perhaps I'm not awake, kidnapped by ailens. After updating to Mavericks 10.9.3 and to Garageband 10.0.2, Garageband is very slow, permanently triggering the beach ball - especially when editing piano rolls.
Looking at the Activity Monitor at such moments, I see that the WindowServer process takes 100% CPU.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Tried updating now phone is dead

Just installed the Desktop Manager on my Vista PC and backed up all the data, etc, then got a notification that an update was available. I've been having issues where if I press the 'j' key it types 'jk', same with the 'k' key and if I use the bottom left CAPS button I get 'J'.  Thought an update might fix it. Halfway through something popped up on my BB screen but didn't catch what it said, now my phone won't switch on. No flashing lights, white screen or anything. My only thought is that it could have drained the battery so I've popped it on charge but not holding out much hope. Laptop connected to power supply.
    It's a Curve 9300 sim free but I use the 3 network.
Please help! I'm almost in tears because I haven't got time for this **bleep** today.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When update you should never disturb the phone, the pop would of been nothing, the battery is being charged by the PC, so the battery wasn't drained. What has happen is that the phone was disturbed while loadindg the software and now has No software on it at all, visist Crackberry web site and in the search box type, how to re-install software to a nuked phone. You will get a step by step walk through on how to do it.

  • Mac Pro Firmware update -- can't boot, dead in water

    Hi all,
Just downloaded the newest firmware update. Shutdown, held in the power button, saw the flashes, heard the firmware beep, let power button go. Machine re-booted, and I saw the firmware progress bar on the screen. Running a little behind schedule, I left the room to grab some things for work. 45-60 seconds later, I come back and my new 23" ACD appears to be in sleep mode; Mac Pro power light is on. Can't seem to wake it up, so I hold down power button, then reboot.
The firmware update must've failed, because now my machine will not boot. It starts, I get the light gray screen but never see the Apple... the monitor simply goes black.
I've tried numerous times to re-do the firmware update to no avail... light flashes, hear the beep, see a gray screen, then monitor goes dark.
I've downloaded the firmware restoration CD, burned it, but the Mac never seems to recognize the firmware CD in the drive when trying to do an update.
This is not a RAID system. I did have a second SATA drive in the MP at the time fo the first update, but I've since removed it. Also hit the hardware switch on the mobo, and that hasn't helped either.
Any advice appreciated. I hate to say it, but I have a $4000 paperweight under my desk right now. :/

If you do in fact have a
Firmware Restoration CD then use the instructions
    from here…
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestora
    tioncd11.html
… to get going with that CD.
    Did that with no luck.
Well, let me back up a moment -- the restoration CD was in the drive at the time I held in the power button, 3 flash/beep sequence, etc.
Where I deviated is attempting to insert the CD after the 3 flash/beep... I've had a difficult time getting the CD tray to eject during startup. I'll try again tonight to eject the tray after the 3 flash/beep, then insert CD.
I'm still looking for a photo online of where the SMC is located (no luck so far).

  • Toshiba 'Critical" Update WinPhlash64 freezes computer dead

wtf... I have a Satellite T135D and noticed a critical update needed to be applied in the Toshiba Service Station icon.  It updated and then installed and ran WinPhlash64.  It started flashing the BIOS and then froze halfway thru.  I know how critical of an update this is so I took a video proving the computer was unresponsive fearing the worst... I leave it on for 45 mins and call Toshiba tech support.  I tell hiim the computer is not off and it is in the same state as it was when it froze.  He told me to shut off the computer so I tried the power button.. no go he tells me to unplug the power and take out the battery to shut it off.  I told him i didnt wanna do this because it was flashing the BIOS and i know how critical of an operation it is.  He told me to proceed so i did so knowing i have the video, the convo is being recorded, and the computer is still under warranty.  So u know what happens next obviously.. my fxxxin computer wont turn on now.  And all he can say is sorry that was a critical update now u need to pay $15 and drop it off at UPS... wtf?? i knew what was happening the whole time i shouldnt have to pay for this.  I dunno what to do... isnt it bs tho?!!

    hi,
please tell me how did you fix this.thanks

  • I Updated -- Now I'm Dead

I know I took a wrong step somewhere, but I'm not sure how to get back on course.
From the Tools menu, I picked the Update Center, entered my proxy info, and got a long list of available updates. I selected them all, and waited while they downloaded.
When the download was complete, I got a dialog telling me that the IDE needed to be restarted. I clicked on "OK." The IDE closed. I then went out and restarted it.
That's when things went whacky. Immediately, I got window after window telling me that updates couldn't be installed as they were dependent on some other update. Only I couldn't read the details in these windows as no sooner did one appear than it was overlain by another. Finally, the IDE appeared, but it was unresponsive to mouse clicks or command keys. I let it set there for several minutes, then tried every combination of cntrl-tab-shift I could think of to try and get the other windows to the top. When I finally did get one of the warning windows on top, that window was also unreponsive to the mouse or keys. Anything I touched in the IDE only got the "beep." Finally, I went to the Start menu and shut down the machine.
I restarted, and was relieved when this time the IDE came up with no error messages. Only nothing works. It won't display a JSP page. There are no controls in the palette. I can still edit text, but 75% of the functionality seems to be gone. And when I try the Update Center, it tells me I'm now all up to date.
So.... help! What the heck do I do to get Studio working again?

Perhaps some of the modules got disabled.
First, to see if this is the issue, try running the IDE with a different userdir:
    runide -userdir C:\tmp\whatever
(where the dir does not yet exist. It will be created)
    Does it work now?
If so, there's some persistent stuff in your userdir causing problems. First try nuking {userdir}/system/Modules/ and restarting.

Hi. I reported this to HP internally yesterday. You are not flying under the radar, so please be patient.
Have you tried a hard reset?
    1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
    2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
    3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
    4) Press the power button

    My original problem:

    Replies:
Most people are eager to answer this...but most don't know what is going on. This topic has been all over the net since 2004, but people are getting frustrated.
I did EVERYTHING. reset the buttons, reseat all components, yadda-yadda. If you could think it, I did it. The only thing possible that was advised, is that my upgrade to 10.4.7 was done without a ROM firmware update. So...
    New Problem:
How can I update my firmware?
I know this post is EVERYWHERE, but I have found no resposible replies.

My invitation is to all to have an open discussion of this topic, so long as all of the requirements I have described are the same...maybe we can get to the bottom of this thing.
I love Apple severely. I tell all of my clients that if you want to upgrade the security of your computing experience, "...get a mac.", has always been my professional opinion.
However, if you are expecting blind faith, you journey to the wrong rabble.
I have witnessed disparaging comments by apple users, arrogating their privilege without necessitating anything else but pure dismissal.
You must forgive me; I have spent over 25 years trying to make a functionless OS function, now, I find a functional OS, acquired by a functionless few.
After research page after page of the exact same error, the only response typical is, "you don't deserve to own such a fine computer...", and maybe they are right. Macs are pricey, and I do come from a lower-class denomination in my ancestry.
So this is an invitation to all that have experienced the same exact problem. Please feel free as this is an open discussion, as the title of this board permits.
Again, I apologize for my behavior...
I just cannot except, "just because...",

Make sure you don't have another copy of Lightroom actively running on your computer. If not, find your catalog file in Finder/Explorer. Look for a file with the same name, but with a .lock extension. delete that file. Now Lightroom should open the catalog again.
