IPod Updater Fails Windows Logo test

Just bought an iPod.
While attempting to install iPod Updater 2006-06-28, I receive a message indicating that the software does not pass the Windows Logo test. Initially, I had the software installed anyway which, in turn, rendered my computer significantly dysfunctional in a number ways. After doing a system restore, I did not have the Updater software installed which, of course, means that my iPod cannot be accessed through iTunes.
Any ideas on what I need to do to solve this?

I receive a message indicating that the software does not pass the Windows Logo test.
with that one, it might be a good idea to check on the possibilities from this document:

    hiya!
... that's a very strange message to be getting in these circumstances. so this is somewhat experimental advice. let's proceed very cautiously.
i did some checking about at Microsoft. the message can sometimes be mistakenly produced by the PC. perhaps the easiest way to check for that is to try going to Windows Update, and attempting to download an update from there.
do you get the same message if you try to install an update from Windows?
if so (and only if so), perhaps try checking through this document:

  • Itunes 7.6 update not passing windows logo testing for compatibility

I have tried to update itunes 3 times. It downloads fine but when it gets to the installation part, I get a warning from windows saying that this software has not passed the windows logo test for compatibility and that if I proceed with the installaton, The system may get impaired. So I stop installation, but eventually I have to update itunes. My ipod gets updated but itunes is not. Lately I've been having problems with my ipod acting buggy. Is this familiar to anyone? Why is this happening and what do I need to do? Thanks!

With that particular message, it might be worth checking through the techniques from the following Microsoft document:

  • Can't install iTunes! Windows logo testing fail

When my iPod touch displayed this error message "apple mobile device USB driver has not passed windows logo testing" an apple genius suggested I follow the kbase ht1925 article which then escalated my issues! I cannot reinstall iTunes and I receive this message now "the software you are installing has not passed windows logo testing"
I have a windows xp, and have not had issues prior to this because I have used many apple products.
Frustrated and music less windows user.

Hmm, as long as you downloaded iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ I'm tempted to ignore the warning and install anyway.

  • When I re-installed iTunes, it said it did not pass the "Windows Logo" testing for Windows XP.  It did not install everything because of this.  How do I fix this?

This is why it does not recognize my iPod Classic (it can't sync my iPod because it can't be found).  Why does the Windows Logo test fail for Windows XP when trying to re-install iTunes?

On an XP system, that can indicate trouble with the Windows OS dlls associated with Cryptographic services.
I'd first try the fixit from the following Microsoft document.

  • Windows logo testing to verify compatibility with 80GB Classic Problem

    Hi All,
I purchased my son a 80GB Classic for christmas and it has been great. Then out of the blue when he hooked it up to his computer two weeks ago to purchase new music the computer would not recognize it. I have tried the five R's as recommended and updated all his programs as suggested. Any advice would be Greatly appreciated. This is the message we get when we plug the ipod into the usb " The software you are installing for hardware has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP." Thank you!

Since I'm on a Mac, I can't offer a whole lot of help. I did find this article on the Microsoft website which may be helpful.

  • "Software has not passed Windows logo testing"

My sister just bought a new 30G Ipod. During the installation a window popped up saying
"The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP"
However my dad also has a 30GB Ipod that he's had for a few months now and its working just fine. So I guess my question is
(1)Is there a difference in the systems or something that the new one isn't compatible?
(2)Is there anyway to perhaps have it tested somehow by the computer or some other solution to get past this?
(I myself don't know much about Ipods or Apple products so I apologize if this is a doofy question!)

try downloading and saving a fresh copy of the installer to your hard drive. (run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antispyware and antivirus applications prior to the install.

When I start itunes i get the message "Itunes was not properly installed if you wish to burn Cds you will need to reinstall itunes" Any ideas what i should do anyone?
That sounds like the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for burning and importing aren't going in properly. (or there's damaged GEAR drivers for an old install stuck on the PC.
Perhaps manually uninstalling and reinstalling the GEAR drivers can get you past this. There's instructions for that on the GEAR wiki:

Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."
Choices are Continue Anyway  or STOP Installation
What does this mean? What do I do to get this upgrade installed and functioning correctly?

  • Windows logo testing

    hi all
i've got a new ipod mini but when i try to load the software off the cd i get a wizard warning that the hardware has
'not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows xp' blah blah 'not digitally signed in or not signed in the appropriate manner. contact your hardware vendor'. i've got service pack 2, itunes and quicktime seem to have loaded on my computer but when i plug in the mini nothing loads coz the software hasn't loaded! any ideas? thanks

Just a note. Last time I saw this query posted, someone (more knowledgeable than me) said that this warning is often displayed when a software developer (in this case Apple) does not pay Microsoft vast amounts of money to have them test the software on Windows. Hence the warning message.
    Ignore it.
And best not to use the installation cd. Get the latest software from these links.

  • Windows Logo Testing message

I have a new ipod nano 8 gb. I have Windows XP SP3 and itunes 8.0. When I tried to set up my ipod, I got the message that "the software you are using has not passed the Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibilty with Windows XP". I can continue but it says it "may impaire or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future". I will probably just continue anyway but wanted to know if others are getting this message and if you have continued, have you had any problems? Should I back up all my data on my harddrive first, just in case?

Just to establish a good base line I am going to have you uninstall and reinstall the printer from our website rather than the CD-ROM that came with the machine.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
Then follow this link to download the full feature software and drivers for the printer:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5061073&
Install that using the USB >> Wireless setup wizard and establish a static IP (video below on that) :

  • Pop Up: The software you are installing for this hardware has not passed Windows Logo testing - AntiVirus

When deploying Endpoint Protection with SCCM 2012, some workstations are getting a popup saying:
The software you are installing for this hardware has not passed Windows Logo
testing and it references "Antivirus". Upon clicking continue anyway it finished installing.
I'm not able to duplicate it on command and not sure why it's happening. Anyone else see this or have ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Without a real screenshot (and maybe even being there), it's hard to say. IME this is not normal behavior and my first thought is that this is actually some malware causing this.

Sorry it took a while, was waiting for it to happen again. Here is an actual screen shot. I'm leaving it until I hear back from you guys. This client actually shows that the endpoint protection deployment state failed with this message:

  • Need software that has passed windows logo testing

can not install the wireless Officejet 6500.  The 6500 is installed on the network.  Message while do installation is "windows logo testing failed to verify compatibilty with windows XP"  installation will not go beyond this point.  The odd part of this is that I had it installed at one time and then the installtion failed.
I have tried your XP solutions and here is the message I received  "an error ocurred during installation.  The driver can not be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in an approtriate manner"
Where do I go from here?

    Hi callison11,
On the Software Installation screen with the 'Windows logo testing ' error, click Continue Anyway .
NOTE:You might receive more than one prompt about the software not passing Windows logo testing. Click Continue Anyway each time you receive the prompt.
Windows logo testing is part of Microsoft's WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Lab) program, which helps customers identify products that are compatible with the Windows operating system. WHQL certification is not related to product functionality. You can still install and use the HP printer and software without the WHQL certification.
    2.  Follow the on-screen instructions until you get to the Found New Hardware Wizard screen. This screen might include a list of products and prompt you to Please select the best match for your hardware from the list below . Leave the selection at the default, and then click Next .
    3.  Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the HP software installation.
