Ipod updater has killed both of my Mini's

I downloaded Apples updater and tried to update both of my Mini's. Now they are telling me to plug into a wall adaptor. I plug them into an APPLE wall adaptor and NOTHING! They don't recognize the adaptor. Is there a special cable or something that apple doesn't tell you about?
  Windows XP Pro

Did you get a solution to this problem as it has just happened me. I keep getting the plug ipod into wall icon, cannot reset it, restore it. It's completely frozen on that icon,
Any help appreciated

  • Recent Windows 7 Update has killed windows

Help, I run Windows 7 in Bootcamp, recent windows 7 update has killed windows, this is what happens.
Choose to boot to windows - OK
    Hit logon screen - OK
    Logon - OK
Windows loads, the desktop shows for about 5 seconds and then the screen goes blank.
The computer is still ON but the screen is blank.
I can boot into safemode OK, but can't run the bootcamp update (that I downloaded from here) in safemode.
I tried a restore point, but the ones before the update create an error, so thats a no go.
My thoughts are that it is a video driver issue, but that doesn't explain how it gets passed logon working OK.
I don't know how to fix this if the only way to update drivers is via an .exe vs the driver files themselves like windows usually likes.

You could try this advice from the Windows side.
Startup Repair is a good place to start if your system starts acting up. If you can’t get the Advanced Boot Options screen by hitting F8, you can also access the tools by booting from a System Recovery Disc, or the Windows installation disc. While System Repair might not be able to recover your system in all situations, it’s a great starting point before getting into more detailed recoveries like Restoring from an image or clean install.

  • Recent iPod Updater has sabotaged my iPod!!

So I plug my iPod into my PC to put some songs on it, and I get a little window that says I need to download an update for my iPod. Ok, no problem. I download the file and install the Updater (to include restarting the PC afterwards). I run the updater and it begins doing some things to the iPod. The updater recognizes my iPod and even my name and the unit's serial number and all that.
Suddenly, there's an error message saying something about how the update failed or some such nonsense. When I try again, the Updater no longer recongizes my personal info and only gives me the option to RESTORE the iPod, not UPDATE. On top of that, my iPod will no longer start up properly even when disconnected from the PC.
I just get that dreaded Caution exclamation point atop a folder icon right after the Apple logo shows up. Then the unit turns off.
I can't believe that I am looking at possibly having to wipe my iPod because of a software issue from Apple themselves. It's a 60GB and it has a LOT of music that I don't want to have to find again. iTunes only has about half of the songs as I have changed PC's since I bought the iPod.
Also, I tried an older iPod Updater version, but that didn't work either.
    Any ideas?
      Windows XP Pro

Well, Tech Support mentioned iLounge software, but seeing even "My Computer" wants to reformat the device, they went on to say that my only option is to completely wipe the iPod.
So, in retrospect, I get a message to update, I do, and it screws everything up so much that I have to lose all the music on my iPod (which wouldn't be such a big deal hadn't the hard drive with the music on it recently crashed). The moral here has to be to NEVER UPDATE ANYTHING iPod or iTunes related.

  • Update has killed my ipod

I have a 40gb iPod I bought 18 months. I recently updated iTunes and downloaded the updater from apple.com and told it to update my software and now my iPod is stuck. It will only show me this icon of plugging my iPod into the firewire iPod plug. I have attached it to the mains using the adapter but nothing changes. I left it plugged in over night, but still made no difference.
It wont restart when I hold the menu and middle button for 6 seconds, it just goes back to that same screen. The internal hard drive is spinning a mile a minute (I can hear it) but it wont let me do anything.
It is my son's 18th birthday today, and we have a surprise party arranged for him tomorrow, and I am relying on the ipod for the music!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      Windows XP

I have solved this. The problem was with my charger and not the ipod itself. I borrowed a friends charger on a whim (i'd tried just about everything else!!) and as soon as it was plugged in it completed the update successfully. I am dubious about why the charger stopped working at that precise moment, it had worked perfectly well earlier the same day, but delighted that I have my ipod back.
I hope that those with the same problem find this to be the solution. I know how frustrating it is.

  • New iPod update has messed up my Artist list!!!

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me out, as this problem is causing a great deal of annoyance & frustration. My iPod recently that there was a new update to download, which I did. However, once I did this, this has greatly messed up my Artist listings. For example, I had the Ozzy Osbourne "Prince Of Darkness" set on my iTunes. Disc 3 of this set is Ozzy with other artists, so the Artist name on these songs are written as Ozzy with Primus, Ozzy with Type O Negative, etc. I have it written as Artist Sort Name: Ozzy Osbourne and not listed as a compilation, so that it still lists under the name of Ozzy Osbourne in Artist List. Before the update download, everything was nicely organized under this one name. Now however, every different name (ie. ...with Primus, ...with Type O Negative) is now listed in Artists under Ozzy Osbourne. This is only one of many examples were this has occured, so as can be imagined, my Artist List is now greatly disorganized. It is very frustrating, especially since I have been spending a lot of time trying to organize my iPod. Can you please tell me how I can get things straight again. Thanks,
    -Colin

  • ITunes update has killed my shuffle!!!

I did a software update today and installed the latest version of iTunes (8.0.1) and as soon as i plugged my shuffle in (2nd Gen, 1gb) iTunes said it was synced to another computer and i'd need to sync & erase so i could reload my shuffle.
No problem i thought as was just going to replace the playlist on it anyway.
It has now erased everything off my shuffle and is treating it like a brand new iPod.
Except when it asks me to name the iPod in the initial set up all i get is the spinning beach ball and iTunes fails to respond, leaving me having to force quit iTunes and having an iPod that's neither use nor ornament.
    Any suggestions guys????

actually, scratch that - I fixed it.
    Apparently ZoneAlarmPro was running hidden.

  • 10.4.7 update has killed me

Software update said the installation failed so I pressed quit and then it wouldn't open again, so then I tried rebooting my intel imac 20" and then it was stuck on the white screen with the apple logo and the spinning thing for about an hour. Booted up from the iMac install disk, repaired permissions. Still no dice.

"…Using third-party system modifications or Menu Extras are common culprits."
No-one knows this better than I after the most recent update.
I remembered to disable my personal login items of CopyPaste-X and MoonMenu, restarted just to check that they had disabled, repaired permissions etc., etc., and downloaded the Combo and ran it. All installed according to plan until it came to the second restart. L o n g spinning gear followed by a kernel panic. Restarted, kernel panic. Ditto. I'd been up since 5 am & it being late I wasn't thinking straight. so went straight for my clone and ran disk repair and Disk Warrior from it. No problem. Rebooted from the iBook. Kernel panic.
    Think… think…
Oh yes, Safe Boot, of course! No Panic.
Anyway, long story short and this is already too long, I'd forgotten about installing DoubleCommand to remap the iBook's little 'enter' key. Took that out of startupitems, all ok.
I've put it back today after doing another disk repair via Safe Boot, (nothing reported) and restarted.
    All still OK.
So to concur with Allan and others, an OS update installed over a modified system can, and in my case did, cause problems.
If it hadn't been for the knowledge that I have gleaned from these forums and other reading, I might otherwise have been amongst those crying "10.4.7 hosed my iBook!"
I'm happy to say that other than the above, self inflicted, problem everything else has been fine.
    Happy days!

  • IPhone 4 update has killed my MacBook!

After updating my software two days ago, the administrator account on my 13" Aluminum MacBook has not worked. It works for 5-10 seconds after login and then totally freezes and doesn't recognise any change in status such as the removal of the power source or the plugin of my iPhone. I am positive that it was the update that caused this problem, as I have not updated the software on the other user account on my laptop, and that works perfectly fine.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how can it be fixed?
I called Apple Support yesterday before I realised that my secondary account was still working, and we established that there was no problem with the hard drive, but we were unable to get into "safe mode". The only advice the tech could give me was to find my startup discs and take it to an Apple store and call back in.
Now that I have more information, and am able to actually use most of the computer, I'm starting to think there may be an easier solution?
    Thanks!

I don't suppose you have access to another Mac?
Safe Mode failing to work could be a sign of more serious troubles.
Did you get to the login window for Safe Mode?
As for getting at your data, you may be able to enable the root account and work with your other files.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528
I've never used root in OS X, but what you could do to save your data is login to the root account, then move the data from the broken user account to the Shared folder (this is within Macintosh HD>Users). Once you've moved the data you need to the Shared folder, log out of the root account and into the other working user. From there, you can move the data out of the Shared folder and into the new user account.
I'm not absolutely certain about my steps above, so let me know if you have troubles.

  • Itunes 7.4.1 update has killed my iTunes store & airTunes

I'm a bit stumped by this one. Yesterday I followed the prompt to update to iTunes 7.4. This morning when I came back to my computer my airTunes speakers weren't connected (first thing I noticed) and then I realised that the iTunes store won't connect either. The error message I get upon trying to connect is:
*iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused.*
Now, I'm not stupid, so this to me sounds like a pretty obvious firewall issue. However the only firewall I have turned on is the standard Windows XP one and it has an exception for iTunes (and one for Bonjour). In fact I've ever tried turning that firewall off completely and it makes no difference. The error message comes up instantaneously, so it seems as if iTunes isn't even trying to connect to anything.
After noticing that iTunes 7.4.1 had been sneaked out overnight I wondered whether this was a known issue with 7.4.0, and updated. Sadly, it was to no avail.
    Any ideas?

  • Flash Player 11 update has killed Flash for me in all browser/ web pages

Hi, I updated Flash player when prompted
    Version: 11.9.900.117
Now no matter what browser all Flash media fails - most commonly (like on this very page at the top) I get the "Could not load Shockwave Flash"
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Shockwave Flash player and I guess the regular Flash player. I have updated Java. In Chrome I have done the whole enable/ disable rigmarole in every permutation. In Firefox I have tried to fix the pluginn using their internal troubleshoot which says it failed.
    What's the deal?
    Windows 7

@ktulu - Unfortunately, not all problems are the same (as you noted with the different solutions not working for you.)
I run Chrome as my primary browser and haven't encountered any problems on Windows 7 and 8.  We don't have any current widespread critical Chrome issues that I'm aware of.
Typically, you don't see Flash failing on all browsers, especially if you've tried Chrome, IE and Firefox.  These all use a different technology (PPAPI, ActiveX, and NPAPI) so it's usually something else (virus/security software, etc) if all are failing.
In Chrome, can you navigate to the "about:flash" page and copy/paste the results in a forum reply?
It might also be helpful to get a screenshot of what you're seeing.

  • 5.2 update has rendered both my Apple TV 2 & 3 useless

I attempted updating both Apple TVs, and they're both stuck at the "What's New" screen. The light on the box blinks when I press buttons on the remote, but nothing happens on the screen. Re-booting leads me only to this screen again.
And of course, I have no micro USB cable, because I would have no use for one other than to restore my Apple TVs, which I never thought I'd need to do.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.
if that doesn't help, then not to be obvious, but you'll need to decide whether you leave the Apple TV not working or get a USB cable.

  • IPhoto 9.1.5 update has killed iPhoto

After updating iPhoto 9.1.5, the app has become unresponsive, even after several restarts and crashes.
All folders have lost their "cover pic"
All photos have lost their edited versions (and seem to have reverted back to the originals)
All Faces seem to have been lost; iPhoto immediately spent an hour trying to reconstruct the faces -- and then promptly crashed.
When I look at the current and past versions of iPhoto in Time Machine, it shows all my pics and folders looking fine. But when I look at the same pics and folders in iPhoto, they are defective as described above.
    Ideas?

I am a new mac user, and admittedly negligent about using the time machine to back up. (still learning my way around) I have a new macbook pro just purchased a few months ago.  After I run the software update (Iphoto 11 9.1.5) last night, my Iphoto library rendered blank with "unreadable files, rebuilt library..." comment.  So I follow the screen instruction and checked all the boxes.  It wasn't a big library having just 4,700 photos and some movie files (from Iphone video) a total of about 2 hours worth.  Long story short, the rebuilt was unsuccessful as it just spin with no progress after hours.
I see that all my photos/movies are still in the "package content".  I downloaded the library manager since the rebuilt has failed.  But the response was "unable to rebuilt from XXX..". (sorry I can't remember the exact phrase, but I have read similar response from other users experiencing the same problem from other posts).
Browse Backup in Iphoto came up empty.
All the events icons with titles are there, but no photos inside and no thumbs.
I gathered the only thing left to do is to manually rebuilt a new library.  But I was wondering if there is another way around it?
Also, after the Iphoto issue, I found out the Imovie is not able to access the video files, and shuts down automatically within 60 seconds after I open up the program.  Is the Imovie problem related to a seemingly damaged Iphoto Library?
I will get the proper back up system set up as soon possible.  I have been very naive to think this sort of problem would not happen to a new mac so quickly.
Your feedback and suggestion is greatly appreciated.
If I have to rebuilt manually, what is the best way to go about it?

  • BIOS update has killed my Satellite Pro A210-1AZ

    Hi
Today Tempro gave me an alert that there was a new BIOS update (bios-20100215113621). I duly installed in in the usual way. During the restart the machine came up with a BAD CHECKSUM message.
Whilst I was reading the message the machine gave a high pitched sqeak and promptly died. It will not restart or respond.
Can Toshiba please explain why they are distributing killer updates and propose how to bring my machine back to life.
We have two indentical machines so will leave my wife's running on the old bios.
Any one got any good ideas?

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for your suggestions and aplogies for my tardy reply. I think I've nailed the problem and am getting round it. I kept on trying to get the machine going and eventually it got as far as a windows screen sayig there was a windows problem. Windows sorted that out after a lot of grinding away and a restore. It was about then that I realised that MS were putting out a number of biggish updates. My wife's indentical laptop started its own MS update which involved a restart and a lengthy configuration routine. I think what happened was that unkown to me I was flashing my BIOS when MS Vista was updating itself too.
I now have a machnie that works. BUT! If I go into the BIOS after about 5 seconds I get a total machine shut down.
My plan is never to flash a BIOS again and cannot go into the BIOS.
Wifes PC seems to work perfectly OK on old BIOS, slow as ever but relaible.
    Cheers
    Fred

  • E63 Software Update has killed phone

    Hello
My E63 wanted its software updating today, so I went through the process (backing up my contacts etc. first).
It said that the software update was successful, however when I went to restore the backup it failed. I tried again twice and each time it failed (I'm pretty sure it was during the settings part of the backup that it failed). My phone screen would then only show the time and that it was charging, with some white boxes flickering across the top.
I then reinstalled the phone software (the phone was working at this point, however obviously it behaved as if it had been through a complete system reset), and then attempted to restore the backup. It failed again and then the option to reinstall the phones software completely disappeared from my computer screen (I have a Windows 7 laptop, and my version of PC Suite says it is up to date).
Now, when I switch my phone on all I see is the hands image together with "Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer." The phone is currently connected to my computer via USB, however it is not showing up in PC Suite or in My Computer.
This phone was bought second-hand for me as a gift, as such I only have the phone a charger and a USB cable (i.e. no software disks etc.).
Before this update attempt it was working fine, and I had no complaints.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards, Matthew

The Software Recovery Tool (SRT) is trying to recover a Windows 8 phone, and is not giving me an option to select a different operating system.
I press continue anyway, and it waits for a phone connection. It doesn't detect a connection (I have tried with the phone off, and with the phone on with the holding hands and "contact the retailer" sign showing).
Next it asks me to hold down the Power and Volume Down keys until the phone vibrates. I have done this by pressing the Power and Left/Down on the central pad (I tried them separately, as both of these can be used to control the volume I believe - the E63 doesn't have a dedicated volume control).
So far, with the Function key, Left central pad key and Power key pressed down the phone boots in to the main menu (office / media / settings etc.). I'm asked to "Select USB Mode", and so far I have only chosen PC Suite (I'm not sure if that is correct or not).
I've then hit OK on the SRT screen, however it still does not detect a connection, and takes me back to asking for the Power and Volume Down buttons to be pressed.
Once in the main menu on the phone I have also tried opening PC Suite on my computer, to see if that registers that the phone is there (it doesn't, despite going through the inital connection process).
When I exit out of the menu screen to the home screen, I can see the time the date and the fact that it's charging only. The calendar still opens from the relevant soft key, but contacts doesn't seem to (this may have something to do with the fact that I removed the SIM in case that was wiped during this process?).
In the Settings menu there is "General > Factory settings", however as I say the phone is second hand and I don't know the lock code (there is a very slim chance I may be able to get it - the previous owner never removed their emails - but it is as I say a slim chance).
...I hope that this helps you in some way?

  • Update has killed phone and can't connect to restore

I have just run the latest update to v4.5.0.174 but the install failed and now the phone only displays an icon that looks like a dialog box with a circle, square and triangle in it, behind a circle with a line through it.
I now can't get Desktop Manager to connect to the phone so I can't try to reinstall or even downgrade.
How do I get my phone back?
    Thanks
