Ipod updater not updating

I have a 20 gb ipod that's about a year old. I updated iTunes to the very newest version, then updated my iPod software, and my computer went through the motions of updating the software but as far as I know nothing has been updated on my iPod. A warning box appears every time I open iTunes claiming that I can't add music purchased from the store to my iPod until the iPod isi updated, but now when I try to return to re-download the software update it doesn't allow me to do so. I tried it from the website and I wasn't able to complete the process to update the software; when I went to system preferences to check the status of the software I had apparently updated earlier, it declared it null. How can I fix this?

I'm having a similar problem. I downloaded the updater and got the new iTunes software but not any new software updated on my iPod. When I sync my iPod (15GB v. 2.2 model about 1.3 years old) I get an error message about songs not being transferred due to my iPod software being too "old".
I noticed that my audiobooks genre is empty on the iPod meaning that they didn't transfer at all... some other songs that I purchased on iTunes didn't transfer either (Van Halen for instance).
The most irritating thing is that before I updated the software, everything worked just fine.
What do I do in order to get the new software to load onto my iPod?
One thing which may be of importance with this (though it's a guess at best) is that I bought this iPod before I switched to a Mac from a PC. I first used the iPod with a PC and then in order to not lose all the songs I bought on iTunes, etc. I downloaded iPodrip software in order to move songs from my iPod to my new Mac (because it was not going to let me link to another computer for "piracy" reasons I suppose).
When I look on my iPod under the About menu choice it says the format is for Windows, but I don't use it on that computer anymore.
Please advise...
Thanks a lot in advance...!

  • I add songs to itunes, but ipod will not update!

I imported songs onto my itunes library. But when I plug it in the usb to update, it will automatically disconnect after 5 minutes, and the ipod will not update. I've tried adding all music, and just checked songs; both do not not work.
    I have version 7.0.0.7
I have about 50% of room left on my ipod.
    Any suggestions??

    Hello Rex225
The best way to resolve the issue is to remove the music from the iPhone and then download the purchase again using the steps in the following article.

  • IPod will not update when plugged into computer?

Just recently my iPod with not update when I plug it into my computer. My iPod does not show up on my Mac or my iTunes. When I plug it in the screen shows the do not disconnect sign. I have tried to reset my iPod and checked for new updates, but they haven't worked. If anyone knows what to do that would be great.
    Thanks

Yes. Since I installed the new system software (10.4.6) update Sunday night, I cannot update any of my iPods except the iPod video. The iPods also do not show up on my desktop. The battery charges but that's all that happens.

im getting kind of the same problem. i got a new computer with vista on it, and i plugged in my ipod with all the songs on it, and i thought if i set it to put all the songs on my computer it would erase the ones currently on it. i started getting alot of errors saying there wasnt enough space on my 8gb nano, which there should have been enough space but since it wasnt deleting the music already on it.
after trying a few different setting i decided to try the restore button and it said it couldnt restore. so i closed itunes went to computer and into my ipod, enabled it so i could see hidden folders and then deleted all the F1, F2,F3 and so on folders and tried an update and it worked.
but something really strange then happened in itunes, it was on my purchased playlist instead of having just my purchased music it had three copies of all my purchased music, but there wasnt three files of each. itunes did this on my previous computer but it made new copies of the files.
it then worked just like it did on my old computer, but i noticed it wasnt working properly went i got all the album artwork and my new purchased music. now i dont really know what to do, do what i did before and delete the music manually or just wait untill the update in a "few weeks"
i hope this has been helpful to anyone else with similar problems.

  • Ipod will not update new songs from itunes

My ipod will not update new songs from itunes. I've purchased several songs from the music store, updated my playlists and as added some from my CD collection and they are not transfering from my library to my ipod.
I've tried numerous configurations under the preferences - ipod menue but still can't get them to transfer.
One error I occasionally get is "ipod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the itunes music library"
There is plenty of room on my ipod so I can't figure out why. It almost seems as if it is trying to copy all of my songs not just the new ones because all songs in my librbary are checked.

    Thank you for responding.
Doesn't it have to be on either manual or auto update? What other option is there?
I will try downloading latest updates.
I know it will work if I reset it (have done it a few times already). I just hate having to restore factory settings everytime I want to put a new song onthe ipod.

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Once you have recovered the songs from your iPod and you are happy that everything back is safely back in iTunes then restore the iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Ipod will not update even though itunes shows that copying is complete

    Good morning all,
Today I purchased an album from itunes and tried to copy it to my ipod. I have the manual set up where the ipod does not update automatically. Today as soon as I connected the ipod to the pc and itunes opened I saw in the display "ipod is updating do not disconnect". This was not supposed to happen since my settings are to manually update the ipod. Then I manually copied the new album, I saw that it was copying and checked the ipod and saw the music there. But as soon as I disconnected the ipod the music had not copied. any feedback will be appreciated.

    Try:

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. It is a Yahoo email account.  I have been thru this several times, checking it every step.  When I go to my emails it says that my password is incorrect but it is the same password I use on Yahoo.   I have even restarted the computer, but that does not work.  It tells me to log on to my Yahoo account so that it can VERIFY the account which I did but still nothing.

  • HT4623 my 2nd. generation ipod will not update the software from 2.2 to 4

my 2nd. geration ipod will not update the software from 2.2 to 4 or 6.

Are you sure you have a 2G? A 1G can only go to 2.1 via iTunes but a 1G can go as high as 3.1.3 that you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
    Identifying iPod models
To If you do have a 2G that can go to 4.2.1 by:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
For 4.2.1 you need iTunes version 10.X and that requires OSX 105.8 or later.
If you have 10.4.11 you can only go to iOS 4.1 since that OSX can on go to iTunes 9.X

my ipod will not update.  I have plugged it into itunes and authorizing the computer but, it still says that all of the purchased product has not been transfered.  It keeps telling me to authorize the computer which I have done.  The purchased items were purchased using an $10 gift card, would that have anything to do with it?
    Thanks,

We won't know until you try the procedure.   The reset will not affect the content of the iPod.

  • IPod will not update in iTunes with Windows Vista

Every time I connect my ipod to my computer, my computer locks up and it does not update. The only way I can even connect my ipod is to use manual update.

iTunes does not yet support Windows Vista. There are numerous problems running iTunes on it. The latest release of iTuens 7.1 fixed some of them but not all.

  • IPod will not update AT ALL

I have owned this iPod Shuffle for about seven months, and it worked perfectly fine until about a month or two ago when it would not let me change the songs on the iPod. I manually deleted all the songs off of the iPod in iTunes, and added a whole new set, but when I put on the headphones, the original music was all still on the iPod, despite it saying that music had been deleted and added. I lived with it for a while, but now the music is getting extremely boring, as I am constantly adding more tracks to iTunes, which I can ONLY listen to on it or by making CDs. No point in having an iPod if I can get better variety from a CD player. So I used the Restore command, but it did not change anything except apparently clean the songs off the iPod (they could still be on there, I'm about to check), either way I still cannot add anything to the iPod.
More to the point, whenever I try to update the iPod in any way (add music, change the preferences, etc.) it says that it is Updating and then after about a minute and a half it gives this message:
The iPod "Owner's iPod" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.
The amount of memory does not change: Used: 300 KB, Free: 489.5 MB. Which is the factory settings I assume.
    Pentium(R) 4   Windows XP

Update: I tried the iPod out and I now get the flashing green orange lights when I press play that I have seen so much about on this forum.

  • IPod synch - not updating iCal events

Several people have posted that their calendars are not synching to their iPods/iPhones/&c. at all. When I synch my iPod(s) (80GB video), the iCal calendars show up, but using an older database. That's to say that I change and add and delete events on my iCal database, but the iPod does not reflect the changes until weeks later. I have tried backing up iCal, re-synching .mac, resetting synch data, and changing the calendar settings in iTunes from All to Selected Calendars (and then selecting every calendar). I have even reset the iPod and updated the iPod software through several versions, but I still have the same problem. Sometimes after I synch with iTunes, I actually have no calendars on my iPod at all, although resynching seems to take care of that.
I have had this problem for a while (so it's not Leopard's fault) and on more than one iPod (so it's not a problem with a particular iPod). One thing that I have noticed is that the deletion of one instance of a repeating event is never reflected in the iPod calendar. That is not, however, the only problem with the synch, as new, one-off events do not show up, either. Because I need to have this calendar up-to-date whenever I leave the house in order to make appointments during the day, this is an untenable situation. I'm certainly not spending money on an iPhone (or recommending any of these products to anyone) until Apple comes up with a solution for this.

I have the same problems, or sometimes it transfers some of my calendars but not others, although "synch all calendars" is checked. Does anyone know a fix for this?
