IPod updater/restore proble w/ latest 2006-06 version - FIXED

Alright kids peep this!
Background- have a Gateway 506GR running Winblows XP Home. Nothing special on it except I use both XPlay 2.0 and iTunes. Everything runs dandy. I have had 2 iPod Mini and a friend has a first gen Ipod U2 version. Updated them, restored them all gravy. Again, no probs...
SO, the wife gets a an iPod Nano... thats when the problems start kicking in. Plug it in and it says we need to update to the 2006-06 updater. Cool. I did it with my Mini so I think this will be easy breazy... WRONG. Muf*cking Nano keeps freezing up. Updater freezes up, restore has no chance. Seems that something is fouling up the system here. Also get the error that cannot write to drive "G", the nano removable drive, sweet!
I uninstall EVERYTHING - iTunes, updaters, XPlay, start up PC in safe mode, turn off firewall (ZoneAlarm), disable virus, remove MusicMatch... nothing. Tried to do the update /restore by manually putting the Nano in Disk Mode and still nada. Oh yeah, took it to the Apple "Guru's at the Stanford store and ValleyFair in SJ and they have NO CLUE. They try some simple fixes and of course get nowhere. They just end up giving me another. I went through 2 this way.
I got real desperate now. I search Google and found this - http://screwdave.blogspot.com/2006/05/ipod-nano-updater-3-23-really-needs.html and of course no dice there either. Maybe it will work for you.
OK, FINALLY peep out DSLreports, the cats there are freaking real GURUS man, and found some guy with the same issue as me. The guy tried EVERYTHING the forum was throwing his way and he had no luck. One casually mentions that he may have a power supply issue regarding the USB 2.0 ports on his PC. "Hmmmmmm", I think that this is just stupid enough to work. I go to Radio Shack and buy a crappy $20 USB 2.0 hub with an external power supply and plug it in. Removed iTunes, all the updaters, and Xplay and start from scratch. Re-install iTunes 6.0.4.2 and use update 2006-03, then re-install XPlay 2.9. Plugin the Nano and Whamo! it freaking works. Sweet.

Same thing happened to me (well my 30gb video iPod XD) And to a lot of people, apparently. My iPod has been comatose (I REFUSE to say it's dead) since Monday after the iPod Update. It's NEVER had problems before, so I lay the blame on the Update. It took forever to "update" (I had it in for hours) and when I finally dced it (prematurely apparently?? I don't know how leaving it in a couple hours and then taking it out makes it premature but okay iPod Updater...) it flashed to the Apple screen, which I then reset, and now it's in its comatose state
I have really nothing to contribute but to say it's happened to me, too XD I've had no luck at other threads so if anyone could help, it would be much appreciated Thanks

  • How do I update/restore my phone to a different version with no internet access on the machine with iTunes installed?

I have downloaded the version of iTunes needed, and the iOS version I wish to use from work, but am unable to restore the version of iOS as iTunes seems to be blocked at work, and I do not have internet at home, aside from on my phone.
Thanks in advance for the help!

You can ONLY restore to the latest available software.
If you have ios 5 on your iphone you can update from the iphone itself.
Otherwise you would need to restore from a computer with itunes and the internet.

  • ITunes freezing on iPod update & restore

I have been browsing the forums all night and have tried every solution. iTunes locks up every time I try to upgrade my iPod firmware or restore. I have reinstalled iTunes 7, uninstalled and reinstalled the iPod Windows USB drivers, turned off all firewalls (in case of internet connectivity issues), reset the iPod and even reengaged it in disk mode. Anyone else have a similar problem? Oh, and the audio on my iTunes stinks just like everyone else's. . . .

Okay, I should have replied to this topic by now as I think I know why it is happening, at least for some of us. I am now using iTunes 7.02. I first noticed this issue with Itunes 7.01. I have 50GB of songs and they dont fit on my internal drive, so I have an alias in my iTunes folder that forces iTunes to load my library from an external drive. This external drive is a USB 2.0 FAT32 formatted drive (so I can move songs between my PC and my Mac).
Anyways, as soon as I moved a small portion of my library back to my internal drive to test, the freezes stopped happening when I connect my 30GB iPod video for syncing. I don't know if this is because my external drive is USB 2.0, FAT32, or both. I think this issue happened with my firewire external drive as well, so maybe it's the FAT32 partition on my external USB drive that is causing the issue.
I hope I have helped someone. If no one else is using a library on an external drive, then maybe I haven't helped at all, but maybe I am on the right track. Either way, I have ordered a new 160GB internal drive for my Mac Mini from mcetech.com so that I can copy my entire 50GB music library off of my external drive.

  • Hello i hope someone can help. i connected my iphone to my laptop and did what i thought was syncing and updating to i tunes latest 11.1 version what i did was restore my iphone back to how it was before my last update have lost 500 photos

i havnt completed this properly first time on here.
I have lost a lot of photos, messages, MMS, My VIBER app conversations have gone
I want this information back urgently! unfortunately I am not  a computer tech....
I have IOS 7.0,2 currently and 11.1 itunes,
any suggestions how i get my deleted data back onto my iphone ?????????

Had you taken any backups (either with iCloud or iTunes) before doing this accidental restore?
If you had, you should be able to restore from one of them.
Otherwise, I'm afraid your data content is gone.

  • Downloaded new iTunes/iPod updater, iTunes now crashes during iPod updating

I downloaded the new iTunes and iPod updater yesterday-- now when I plug my iPod into the USB, it recognizes my iPod, the "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect." message comes up, but as soon as "Updating Track 1 of 9." appears, I get a Send Error Report message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. etc" (I wasn't sure what, if anything, I shoudl include here from the Error Report Contents.) Has anyone else encountered this or have any tips? I've tried the uninstall/reinstall trick to no avail.
    Thanks!

I fixed this for my Nano by using the iPod Updater Restore to revert the firmware to version 1.0 and removing iTunes 6.0.2 through Control Panel. I didn't delete the leftover directories. I then reinstalled iTunes version 6.0.1.3.
The Nano is now happily recopying all my music. Should be done by midnight.
    Good luck.

  • Smart Playlists are fixed with iPod Updater 2006-01-10

    Hello Podders, Resident Furball here...
iPod Updater 2006-01-10 restores dynamic updating of Smart Playlists on the iPod
iPod Updater 2005-06-26 disabled the onboard dynamic updating of Smart Playlists on iPods older than the Nano and Gen5. This feature can now be restored using iPod Updater 2006-01-10.
We held lengthy debates about this issue on Discussions (here, here and here), as well as the iLounge thread that sparked a dedicated website.
However, we are glad to confirm that the latest iPod Updater resolves this issue, as I was informed by email from Apple Level 2 Support, and as tested by some of our long-suffering Gen4 and Pod Photo users. The Apple KB article on Smart Playlists has also been updated.
Since the threads that I started have now been locked down to reflect resolution, I'm posting this just to confirm that everything now appears to have been resolved, and I would like to thank everyone here on Discussions for their patience and excellent troubleshooting in diagnosing this problem. Thank you to everyone who posted Feedback, those of you who took the time to phone Apple, and also to Apple Level 2 Phone Support for their assistance in escalating this matter up to US Engineering.
    Happy Podding everyone!
    Kind regards,
    Gopha.

    Hello folks, Resident Furball again...
Many folks have now reported that Smart Playlist functionality has been properly restored to the iPod.
However, some folks have been reporting that Smart Playlists containing Podcasts are still coming to grief.
From what I have seen reported, the firmwares prior to the Updater 2005-06-26 that broke Smart Playlists had the ability to dynamically update Podcast-containing Smart Playlists, but this functionality has not been restored in the latest 2006-01-10 that has fixed 'simple' Smart Playlists.
I don't use Podcasts myself, so if you would like to know more, please refer to posts from Vibeeen and Tutackhamen who have described the continuing issue in detail.
In the meanwhile, I have drawn the attention of Level 2 Support to these reports, and recommend that you continue to submit appropriate Feedback if you are affected by this quirk.
    Kind regards,
    Gopha.

Hi, read this and see if it will provide you a solution:
    Internal Manager Error: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301907
If trying to use the latest IPOD Updater, make sure you have the new version of ITunes installed per the article.
If the issue reappears then a return might be in order.

  • Previous versions of iPod Updater

Is it possible for me to remove previous versions of iPod Updater?
I have 3 or 4 versions dating back to 2004.

I am in "add or remove programs" I have 3 programs named
    iPod for Windows 2005-1-11

  • So... I got the new iPod Touch, and it is stuck in a loop trying to restore after the latest OS update failed...

I bought the new iPod Touch today, and tried to update to newest software, got an error code "6" and now is in a cycle in which it keeps downloading the update and then telling me the iPod needs restoring... over and over again.  Like Ground Hog Day...
Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks!

I have exactly the same Problem ! iTunes starts downloading the 885MB of the update over and over again, One Cycle takes a Lot of time.

  • IPod messed up by Latest iTunes/iPod update (10/30/2006)

I didn't think anything of updating to iTunes 7 a few days ago. I like the improvements, etc. Yesterday evening, when I connected my 5thGen iPod30G to my powerbook, iTunes asked me if I wanted to allow my iPod to use a NEW update. I conenct to the powerbook "every day and twice on sunday" so I am pretty sure this is a new iPod software release. Anyway, for some reason my iPod will not play anything. It behave normally as I disconnect it and nav to the particular track(s) I want to play. About two seconds after I touch Play or Select, the screen goes dark and, staying dark, I see the Apple on the screen that indicates a reset. This is not the Bar one waits for immediately after an update. That part of the upgrade procedure went normal. Anyone else, Anyone, Anyone... Buehler?

    Hey EJM Jensen!
Have you tried restoring your iPod? -> Restoring an iPod
If that doesn't help, then you might want to try reinstalling your iPod's firmware. For more info, read here: iPod fails to update - Reinstalling iPod's firmware
I hope that does anything good for you.

  • After installing the latest ipod update some of my purchased songs no longer play

After installing the latest ipod update some of my purchased songs no longer play (though they still play on the computer).  When I tested it on another computer it claimed that computer was not authroied to play these songs even though I was just playing them directly off the ipod.  Even more strange is that I alos have a number of songs loaded on my itunes from albums I loaded and I am fairly sure these songs were ones I recorded rather than purchased but now they appear on my purchased list.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Nano won't update or restore in iPod Updater

-My nano when connected to my PowerBook does not show up in iTunes
-When iTunes is opened, it askes if I want to do a software update for the iPod
-In the updater, it says that it is formated in Windows, and will not allow me to restore it (saying that I need to hook up with a Firewire), nor will it let me update it (saying that only macintosh formatted ipods can be updated).
-I know that i need to restore it in OSX but it will not let me, and using the disk utility to restore it has not seemed to help.
-I tried using a windows computer to restore it, which i was able to do, but it would not let me update it on my mac.
    Any suggestions?

Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Plug your iPod with your Mac, open the iPod updater and hope it will allow you to click RESTORE.
    If still doesn't then
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

  • After runnin iPod Updater 2006-06-28 for my 2GB iPod Nano my computer froze

I installed iTunes 6.0.5 and my 2GB iPod Nano was recognized... everything seemed OK. I then tried running iPod Updater 2006-06-28 and this is when my problems began. After running the Updater program my iPod froze during the update process. I had to shutdown my computer in order to stop the updater program. Upon restarting my computer, iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod and if I run the updater program again it continues to freeze or does not recognize my iPod. When I plug in my iPod, Windows recognizes my iPod but my computer becomes very slow. Please note that when my iPod is not connected to my computer it appears to be OK but all my data has been removed. The updater program also appears to have been successful in updating my iPod to v1.2.
To try and resolve this issue I performed Apple's Five Rs and also followed Apples instructions for "iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes." Please see the links below for these procedures.

  • IPod Updater 2006-06-28 still says Don't Disconnect...

    Hello.
This evening I tried updating the firmware of my iPod. Everything seemed to go ok. When this was finished, their still was the "do not disconnect" message on the screen of my iPod.
I decided to try the restore button.
iPod Updater 2006-06-28 now says: restoring done, wait till it is really done, don't disconnect the iPod.
Now, this message is already on my screen for more than a hour. My question: is this ok and normal?
(perhaps I have to say that my iPod wasn't charged completeley.)
I hope someone knows something about this.

Ok, you see the thing is, I'm only 13 and I have like
no idea as to what I should do. and most of all, I
don't really have a clue as to what you just said.
I'm sorry if I'm bugging you, but I think what
you're saying is that if I remove itunes and i
reinstall it, all my songs will be there? This is
so confusing. You know what? Thanks for your help
    anyway. I appreciate it.
Okay Shorty1324, I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes i don't know how many times and my music files and folders have never been erased from my computer so you don't need to worry about that. However, if you do decide to uninstall iTunes again and think it may erase your music, try making a backup copy (not a CD) of your all music files and/or folders. meaning, make a totally new folder, save it somewhere on your hard drive or desktop where YOU know everything in it will not be harmed if iTunes decides to go ape (for lack of better words). if everything works according to plan, (meaning iTunes works without any problems) then your iTunes problem is solved. but keep the backup copy of your music in case something else goes wrong. hopefully this explanation helps you. i know it's hard to understand technical jargon but you will learn as you get older. no worries!

  • Has anyone else had problems since the latest itunes/ipod update?

since i got my ipod and itunes updated, ive had nothing but problems with my ipod. sometimes it freezes, and when i connect it to the computer its all of a sudden corrupted. Sometimes this happens when i connect it to my computer to charge, and gets stuck on the do not disconnect screen. Sometimes ill be listening to music or watching something on my ipod and itll turn off randomly for no reason, then the apple symbol will come on as if i turned the ipod on again. Right now my ipod is frozen on the do not disconnect screen, and i have no choice but to restore it, however it wont even show up on itunes when its frozen sometimes, like right now. Has anyone else had problems since the latest ipod update?

As i've posted in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=746408&tstart=30
I've tried everything others have suggested without any luck.
    Now I'm stuck with a 300 bucks mp3 jalopy.
My big question here is :
why aren't we hearing from apple? why aren't they saying something like "yeah we messed things up but be patient. we are trying our best to fix it..." ?
I was thinking to buy the macbook pro but now I'm afraid of the day things will get messy with that too.
