IPod updater trouble. Help!!!!!!!!!

When I updated my iPod it seamed to be fine but when I disconnected it all of my photos and notes were gone from my Nano , so I checked my computer to see if they were still on there and all of my 200 pictures were some how deleted. and on the iPod options you have to have it in disc mode because you can't uncheck it.I need help. and thank you for any responses.

You can't uncheck enable disk use while using manual update. Perhaps you meant automatic?
Why do you need it out of disk use? Just go back and make sure the photo and note settings are correct, and make sure you eject the nano in the iTunes source list before disconnecting it.

  • Apple iPod Update! HELP!!

Alright, this isn't really in this category, but when i was installing the ipod update it was fine then suddenly it started into the reset loop. It turns on and you see the apple symbol and then the light turns on then all of a sudden it cuts off and does the samething over again. This really ticks me off because apple is the one that caused this problem and it would have been fine if they would have just stopped pestering me to install this stupid thing. Sombody please tell me what I can do or who I can call.

  • Unsure about doing 4.2 ipod update - need help please!

When I plug my ipod touch into my mac and indicate that I do want to do the 4.2 update the following message appears 'Updating to 4.2 will delete all media, including itunes store purchases. to preserve your media apply this update on the computer where you sync music, videos and photos. Updating on this computer will only preserve apps, contacts, calendars, text messages and other settings. please don not interrupt the update which may take an hour or more'....... my question is, should I do this update?? From this message is sounds as though my ipod will be totally wiped clean. Is that what will happen? I don't sync when I plug in my ipod, I manually manage my music so I've read others comments regarding their success in unplugging their ipod after their update and replugging it back in and once it syncs all the music is there, playlists too. But since I don't sync I am concerned about mine. What is the best thing for me to do?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me. I'm not an advanced computer person - I consider myself an 'advanced beginner' and I'm really nervous about messing this up.

I just did the 4.2 update and now EVERYTHING is gone off my ipod - music, apps EVERYTHING!!! What do I do??? How do I get it back??? This stinks. I'm completely lost and I'm really frustrated. Please help

  • Ipod mini troubles: Help Needed

I really need help with ipod mini troubleshooting..
I've had my Ipod mini for about 3 years now and lately have been running into a few problems.
    In the past few months:
-My Ipod's "battery meter" has been acting really strange, one second it may be reading as 3/4 full, and the next it shuts down saying that my battery has depleted, then a few minutes later it will be reading full again. And just to let you know, I always charge it overnight to avoid having a dead battery, and I always make sure to properly shut it off using "hold".
Resetting my ipod works sometimes, but other times doesn't..
    Yesterday:
My Ipod is no longer responding at all, and I'm pretty sure I know why: Some careless person spilled some water near and on my ipod, I dried it off as soon as I could. It was working properly shortly afterwards, but a few hours later, it shut off saying that the battery was dead again, and a picture of a "cartoon ipod" with dead eyes("XX") appeared on my screen, and it said under the picture to go to "www.apple/support/ipod". This was when it wasn't connected to a power source. When I connected my ipod to my computer via USB, my itunes does not recognize that it is connected ("Do not disconnect" does not appear on my ipod) and a picture of a "dead battery" has appeared on my screen, it is not in the "recharging mode" either (with the picture of the battery moving).
I tried re-setting it numourous times, and always end up with either the "dead battery" picture, or the "dead cartoon ipod" picture on it.
Help would be greatly appreciated, as I use my ipod everyday for school and leisure.
    Thanks.

I've tried that several times without luck.

  • Ipod Updater Need Help

I have a dmg file from the download and it will not install.
What program should i use to install this?

Select the mpkg in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu. Under the Open With section, change the setting to the Installer and then click Change All. If you don't see the Installer in the list of options, use Pacifist to extract the Installer from your Mac OS X installation disks or updaters. You can also use Pacifist to extract the updater directly, but no receipt will be created for the updater if you do this. Without the receipt, some parts of Mac OS X may not realize that the updater has been installed, and the Repair Permissions command won't check or repair permissions on the updater's files.

    So can You Please help.
    many thanks In Advance

The iPod updater is now contained in iTunes version 7 or later. Why not use that?
Maybe Apple are not hosting the older standalone updaters any longer.

  • IPod Nano troubles, please help

I'll try to explain this problem to the best of my ability, this has been an ongoing problem since my sister got her iPod Nano:
Me and my sister both got iPods for Christmas, her a Nano and myself a Video, now this isn't about me, my iPod works with my computer (thankfully), but my sister's Nano does not work with her computer. The only reason she has music is because she hooked it up to mine and got my music (a process so annoying to me it's hard to explain, and no, before it is suggested I am not going to add her music to my computer, add it to my library, hook up her Nano, give her her music, and then undo that whole process afterwards. Also I am going off to college next year and won't be able to do that all the time).
Anyway, so the problem appears to be that Windows does not recognize her Nano. I follow the instructions exactly like I did to use my iPod, I install the newest software (iPod updater and iTunes) and then put music into iTunes and then plug in her Nano, and I get a very strange noise. If you can imagine the two noises commonly heard, two beeps, one low and one high when you plug in a piece of hardware, and one high and one low when you unplug it, think of this noise as three, very quick low beeps. I do not know what this noise means, but it appears to mean "we know you plugged something in, but we don't know what the heck to do." iTunes at this point does not automatically update the iPod, and when I go into iPod Updater, the message is "plug in an iPod to begin" (although one is plugged in).
Originally I thought the problem was with her USB drives, although they are USB 2.0 as recommended. I called an Apple service representative (actually a few, only one giving me anything close to a reason for the problem), and upon checking the Device Manager the representative told me that "VIA" USB controllers are not compatible with the Nano. I did not find this likely, but I accepted it as the reason and she has since gone without an updated music selection in her Nano.
Recently my sister purchased a PCI USB card to put into her computer, which I installed (with difficulty, hard to find the drivers). We again tried to use the Nano with no luck. These new USB controllers are "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controllers" also 2.0, according to the packaging.
I have since reinstalled iTunes and iPod Updater to their most recent versions and reinstalled the USB ports twice, with no better results. Currently I am at the Device Manager and it shows it "recognizes" the iPod, under "Other Devices" (which has a yellow question mark as the icon) and the iPod tab itself also has a yellow question mark as the icon, but this yellow question mark has a smaller yellow circle with an exclamation point ("!") inside it. I attempted to use the "Add New Hardware" wizard to "install" the iPod, but at the point where it looks for drivers it says it can't find any.
Please help, I would be greatly appreciative of any information concerning:
-My sister's USB ports and if they are the problem
-What the "three beeps" noise means when I plug in the Nano
-Where I can find "drivers" (if they exist) for the Nano so the computer recognizes it
-Any other ideas/suggestions that could be of help
Thanks in advance! I hope someone else out there can answer my problem!

    hiya!
-Where I can find "drivers" (if they exist) for the Nano so the computer recognizes it
hmmm. okay, perhaps we should try giving the techniques in this MarkJones post a try:

  • HELP - iPod Update Problem

Just joined the Forum after reading some of the posts here - you guys seem to know alot more about this than me so any help is greatly appreciated.
My 30Gb 5th Gen iPod has software version 1.2.3. iTunes tells me there is a version 1.3 available but when I try to update it I get an unknown error message (1417).
I've been through the support pages and have done the 5 R's as recommended but my iPod won't restore - not even to the early version. I get an unknown error message (1418) when I try to restore.
On trying to just synch the iPod without updating the software iTunes tells me that my PC is not authorised to play over 100 tracks and it has now removed them from my iPod even after I have signed in to authorise my computer over 30 times when the messages appear!!
This is the only computer I have used to update my iTunes and iPod for over 2 years now and it is running fine. I've had no problems until now and usually update every 2 - 3 months.
I need help to get my iPod updated to the latest software and to get my iPod / iTunes to recognise that my computer is authorised to play the music.
Help please - I've been trying to get this thing to work for hours!!
    Cheers, Al

Thanks Jeff but I've been through these steps on two or three occasions before I joined the forum and they haven't done any good.
The other reply tells me to re-format the iPod.
Is this a good idea or would I just be left with a (semi) useless portable drive?
If I were to consider this would I do it through "My Computer" and format the drive or explore the drive and just delete all the content?
I don't want to do anything that'll be un-recoverable. Let's face it I am still able to use the iPod at the moment and although I've lost access to 100 songs I still have over 3000 songs to keep me going! All I really want to do is update the software and keep it updated.
Another thread suggested the removal of iTunes and iPod updater software from the PC and then re-installation. Any views on that solution?

  • IPod not updating! HELP!

I need help desparately! Whenever I plug in my iPod to update new songs that I have downloaded, iTunes shows that it is updating, but once iTunes shows that it has been updated and I disconnect my iPod, the new songs are not on the iPod! The songs are still saved in my library, but they will not update onto the iPod.
Also, two similar warnings continue to come up on my computer:
    iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\TempFile is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
    AND
    a30:iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\PhotosFolderPrefs is corrupt and unreadable. Please run te Chkdsk utility.

    Ack...Ok
This first article deals with the iTunes.exe corrupt file and how to fix it as well as addressing your seconds question.
