IPod Updater will not update

Hello, I have a fifth generation iPod that I am trying to restore. When I connect the iPod to my iMac G5 i press 'restore' in iTunes. The iPod software will download to about 75% and will stop and give me an error message that says 'check your connection' but I know my connection is fine. Any help would be great. Maybe another way to download? Thanks in advance!

There is a tech note on what to do when an install or update fails.
Often due to prior copies and cache of those on your system.
Some you have to uninstall but it will leave behind files and folders that then have to be manually removed.
    Clone Windows just in case.
    Run chkdsk
    Cleanup
Use CCleaner or similar and repair the Registry might help too.
I just did a clean install Windows 10 Preview, and the one app I most feared installing installed and seems to be fine, iTunes 12.01+

  • IPod Shuffle will not update

My iPod shuffle is refusing to do anything. When connected to iTunes (v. 6.0.1), it will not update songs, either automatically or by manually selecting a playlist. The shuffle also will not update using the 2005-11-17 iPod Updater, both buttons are always grayed out. Every time the shuffle is connected to the computer, and I launch iTunes, it says that I need to update the firmware and directs me to download iPod Update 2005-11-17. The iPod still mounts onto the desktop, and shows up in iTunes, but nothing can be done with it. I have tried whipping the shuffle clean, and it still cannot be updated. I have also tired deleting com.apple.iPod.plist, and that doesn’t work either. I have already searched though the forms here and I have yet to find anything that works. FINALLY FIX IT!!!
I found out how to fix this problem. You have to to an archive install of OS 10.4, and then run system updater. Once everything is installed restart, and plug your iPod into your system. Make sure its the 2006-01-10 updater that launches, other wise you can manually download it from the Apple support page. You should then be able to click on the restore button. After this is finished, you can launch iTunes and finally put music on your shuffle.
It works ... and it only took me 3 iPods from Apple to figure it all out.

  • Ipod clickwheel will not update at all

My ipod shows up in the Source list, but will not update. When I try to manually update, the update option isn't even available. Background: Yesterday I left my computer on and when I came home, it said that I was low on space and needed to clear some files. In a panic I deleted some songs from the iTunes music folder on the hard drive and then went into iTunes. I thought I deleted the same ones. I'm not too sure at this point. Yes, I know I am supposed to delete from iTunes... Anyway, now it won't update at all. I've tried reset and yes, I have all the latest software. Please help!

  • Ipod touch will not update!

My ipod touch will not let me update to the most current software or even restore my ipod to factory settings. It will let me download, but when it is done and ready to install I get a message "There was a problem downloading the ipod software. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Does anyone know what this means? I never seemed to have a problem until I downloaded that January update a few months ago.
I even tried reinstalling itunes but that did not help. Any help or suggestions are appreciated

I purchased keynote, numbers, and pages when i bought my macbook air in late september. the december update will not load because it says i do not own the software and returns an error messgae 100. i have read manuals and looked over the web but i cannot figure out how to get this software update to identify that i do own these three pieces of software. they are installed and usable. any ideas would be appreciated before i call apple support.
This is my first mac so i am still learning...
    thanks

First, make sure you are logged into the App Store with the same AppleID that you used to purchase the apps.
If that is not it, look in the App Store under Purchases. Are they there?
If not, go into your account in App Store and click the link to show hidden purchases.
If they are still not there, use the support link in the App Store.
If they do show up, copy all the apps to an external drive, then remove them from your Mac. Go to the App Store, Purchases, and install from there.

  • New camera format not recognized/Adobe Updater will not update

I bought a new camera (Canon Mark 5D III). I am trying to use my laptop (Mac Air/Lion) with Photoshop CS3 (although I have upgrades, I cannot upgade to CS5.5 or 6 because it will just drag my system down, worse than it is limping along already with Lion). Camera Raw doesn't recognize the file format. Adobe Updater will not upgrade anymore. Updater gives the following message: There are no updates available at this time. Please note that some updates for the following products cannot be determined at this time: Adobe Updater." How do I get the files to read on my laptop? I use it for travel and would like to at least be able to see my files in Photoshop for sharpness, and maybe do some preliminary editing.
By the way, I spent 20 minutes waiting for a chat assistant then when I got one, he told me I had to call tech support. I tried calling tech support but was put on hold for well over 2 and a half hours before hanging up. This is horrible service! I couldn't even find an email address for customer service to lodge a complant.

Moving this discussion to the Adobe Camera RAW forum.  Mary Prasad you will likely want to look at using the DNG convertor to convert your files to the DNG format.  You can then open the DNG file in Photoshop CS3.  You can find more details at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html.

  • IPod Classic will not update certain playlists

I have a 120GB iPod Classic running software 2.0.1, and I cannot get it to update some playlists. Some will have a different album artwork than in iTunes, and the couple that I really care about are in reverse order.
I tried creating new playlists of the same albums with slightly different names, but they still show up in reverse order on the iPod, which doesn't work so well for a story.
Last nigth I got so frustrated that I restored my iPod to try to get it to work, but still the same playlists are showing up in reverse order.
I have tried restarting my iPod, reseting it, restoring it. I have even run diskwarrior on my iPod, and have tried trashing the com.apple.iPod.plist, to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas, or am I SOL?

    Update!
This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
    a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml#backup
    b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!

  • Ipod is called DATA and updater will not update

My ipod was not being recognised by itunes. I run updater and the ipod was called data? I got an updated version of the updater and restored my ipod.
The updater still says the ipod is called DATA and will not allow me to update. The ipod says IPOD as the name?
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers and thanks for reading,
    Paul

Thanks, I'm a bit of a novice really, so not sure how to do that. I have now got the updater to think the ipod is called n/a, but still all I can do is get itunes to fire up and it still does not regonise the ipod. I'll speak to my IT dept at work about the mapping thing, see what happens. Thanks again, Paul

  • 4GB iPod nano will NOT update or restore

I have iTunes 7.0.1 and a 4GB iPod nano (2nd Gen) on Windows XP SP2.
When I plug it into my computer, it appears as a removable disk (even though "Enable Disk use" is unchecked). When I load iTunes, it does not recognise it.
If I then quit iTunes, eject the disk through Windows Explorer and stop the iPod service (via My Computer > Manage > Services & Applications > Services or via Task Manager), then reload iTunes, the iPod service starts again and my iPod appears in iTunes. Great.
However, if I then go to update the iPod with the new 1.0.2 software, once it starts to update, something ejects the iPod and the progress bar in iTunes just sits there. The iPod has been ejected and will never update. I cannot restore it as it does exactly the same thing.
I've just paid good, hard cash for this iPod nano and I can't use it?! Why oh why did Apple put the iPod updater software INSIDE iTunes??? That's a recipe for disaster, as can be seen by the multitude of posts on this topic in these forums and elsewhere on the net.
Before you ask, yes I have tried all the USB ports, yes I have tried other computers, yes I have stopped all anti-virus software, yes blah blah blah. I keep getting error 1415.
I'm really narked off with Apple about this. If they cannot provide a working solution, then it's going back to the store and I'll get a Zune... (that's a joke by the way...)

    SOLUTION
    SOLUTION
I had the exact same problems before, iTunes doesn’t recognize iPod after connecting it, I had to use the restart iPod Service method to get it working.
I tried this on my second computer and it worked perfectly, iTunes recognizes iPod every time I plug it in.
I compared the process/services opened in both computers, and I turned on some services which were previously on disable(excluding iPod Service). Unfortunately I forgot which services it was, so I took some screenshots and compare these with your services.
After modifying the services, I tried plug and unplug the iPod several times without closing iTunes, iPod was instantly recognized by iTunes every time!
I attached the links to screenshots of my automatic services and manual services, ignore the service if its not on your list!
For those don’t know how to open Services, Start -> Run -> “services.msc”

  • My 2g ipod touch will not update to 4.2.1  -my itunes is current update

i'm on my 4th attempt to download.  each time i do it says "downloading" & that it will take around 77 minutes.  when i come back later it's as if nothing has happened.  if i replug my ipod in it offers the update 4.2.1 again & through the process i go again - repeatedly to no avail.

I am going to guess that you are using a Windows PC not a Mac with OSX. Make sure you are Administrator on the computer. Update any security software installed. Next step if you are still having the issue is to disable all security software on your computer. This would be programs that are Antivirus, Antispyware, Anti adware, and Firewalls. It is rare that Windows Firewall causes issues so you can leave it on. Some security software will need to be completely removed before update will work (remember to restart after removal). Next try a different user account on the computer or a different computer. There is always the Apple store as a last resort. They will update the device for you too. Remember to re enable or reinstall security software after update.
