IPod updating everything when I've set it to manual

In my 2nd gen. iPod prefs for Podcasts I have it set to Auto-update selected podcasts/only checked episodes. From a long list of podcasts I only have one set to auto-update. When I plug in my iPod though it seems to go through all of the new episodes for all of my podcasts even though when I disconnect only the ones I wanted to have copied over show up.
That part is fine but I have to sit and wait for a long time while it goes through this updating process that seems pretty useless. Does anyone know why it does this or how I can make it only update the ones I have checked? Thanks.

for me this issue is only new powerbook w retina display on 10.8. do not have issue on Lion, imac, ibook or old powerbook 17.

Background:
Have product installed on user PC "ProductName: Adobe Reader X (10.1.4) MUI", in way disabled the automatic updates under FeatureLockDown set to disable Updater. However, user still getting prompting updates message to invoking and install the updates, this NOT been expected as per our requirement.

Solved it!
1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold, it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.

I cannot download updates automatically when I try to do it manually I don't know where to save it.

When I received the message for new downloads, I tried to download. A message came up saying Firefox could not update for unknown reasons.
It provided a link to update manually but then it asked where I want to save the updates. I don't know where to save them. I need the update link and directions on how to update manually including where to save the updates.

- Double click on your Home button and close the apps who are running
- Hold the HOME button and ON/OFF button until the logo apple appears
- If nothing work try to connect a bluetooth keyboard to enter the name of your contact

I keep getting emails when it is set to fetch Manually

My email settings are fetch-> manual and in advanced to 'Manual' for each account.
I will leave my phone idle and when I get back, it tells me I have new mail. I have a gmail and hotmail account and it is doing this for both!

Try resetting your iTunes password using the secret question/answer method. See:

I can't install iPod updater 1.2

I just downloaded iTunes 7.0 and there was a pop-up asking me to install iPod Update but when I clicked 'Install' my iPod seemed to eject itself and showed main menu on the screen instead of 'Do not disconnect'.
Few sec later on the window, it said that iPod couldn't be updated. An unknown error has occurred (1417)!?
What was that about?
And one more question, when you click eject iPod then you want to add some more songs, you quit iTunes and open it again, is iPod suppossed to respond and show that it's connecting with the iTunes or it's just dead and you have to pull the plug then plug in again!? Because lately mine doesn't seem to have any respond after ejecting, it used to, anyway.

Forum Regular Hi There, i had the same issues and followed these instructions. They worked for me so, im hoping they will work for you.
1)Plug in your iPod and wait for iTunes to tell you an update for it is available
2)Click the Install button on that dialog and keep an eye on your iPod
3)When your iPod screen switches from the flashing "Do Not Disconnect" message to the Main Menu screen, unplug the iPod, wait a couple SECONDS, plug the iPod back in
4)You should notice some slow-down in the progress meter and a new dialog box should come up and tell you your iPod is being updated and to not disconnect it until the update finishes
5)That's it. Wait for the update to finish and iTunes will re-recognize it and show its new up-to-date status.

Ipod updater won't work; ipod won't reinstall

After re-installing my itunes, it won't update my ipod. I was advised to restore the settings to shop settings and so have downloaded the ipod updater - but when I try to run it, as I wait for the 'update'/'restore' screen to come live, I get an error message, which I have to click 'ok' and the whole thing goes off.
Meanwhile on the ipod, I'm either getting the unhappy ipod icon, of a thing which looks half like a battery and half a black zig-zag.

I also have the same problem since I did the iTunes download to '5', I also have the error message which reads; "The iPod Cannot be updated. An unknown error occured(-50)" The iPod has even been back for repair 3 times, but no fault was found. I have established that the fault is with Apple's iTunes download of '5' which has not been cured by downloading number 6. So when will they write a 'fix'? The effect of this download on my other computer has been that iTunes itself will not open. (See the discussion forum on this problem, it is huge, but still no 'fix' from Apple). I now have an empty iPod, and iTunes that will not do its job. Not impressed, my husband has ditched his iPod and bought a Sony. If this is not sorted out soon I will be doing the same.

Error message while trying to download Ipod Updater

Help! I am about ready to lose it. When I plug my mini into my computer it says that Itunes does not recognize it and that I need to restore it to factory settings. That is fine but in order to do that I need to launch Ipod Updater. When I try to download the file I get an error message saying "Error during setup intialization". Any ideas?

(1) Do you currently have a copy of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package installed on that PC? If so, try downloading the following security update:

I have a problem that I have tried many different ways to solve. When I plug in my Ipod, it is found in "my computer" and with my windows media player, but not Itunes or Ipod updater. I went back to iOS 7 and my backup file is restoring but when its done nothing is on my phone still and only takes 11-15 minutes to restore the backup instead of taking 25+ minutes like usual so I guess the backup is corrupted. How can I fix this?

- The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music. If those synced items are not on the computer on which you do the update they will not be oj the iPod after the update. The update erases the iPod
- First transfer iTunes purchases:

- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up

What I meant is turn off Documents and Data in iCloud in OS X. Keep it on on your iOS devices. iCloud will sync documents between the iOS devices and make them available on the iCloud web site, but it won't mess up iWorks' open and save dialog boxes. It also won't assume that you want all your documents in iCloud, which I think is undesirable anyway.

iOS iWork is different from OS X iWork. There are fewer fonts on an iOS device. iOS iWork programs have slightly different feature sets than OS X iWork programs, and the file formats are different. iCloud automatically converts the file format when necessary, but if you make a habit of saving things directly to iCloud, you are limited to the lowest common denominator between the two versions of iWorks. So why would anyone want iWork on the Mac to open and save documents on iCloud by default?
If you want to store files in the cloud and sync them on your Macs, SugarSync is a much better solution. It lets you choose your sync folders, it doesn't make you reorganize your files, it lets you sync all file types, it doesn't convert files to a different format and back, and it stores everything in the cloud, too. Just the simle act of saving a file backs it up and syncs it. I wouldn't live without it. iCloud is best with iTunes purchases and synchronizing Mac settings and iOS files; I woudln't live without it. The two make an unbeatable combination.

I've logged out and back in and I still get a " your apple id has been disabled" message every time I try to update my apps. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure there's an easy solution but I've tried all the tutorials on apple.com and nothing works. Can anyone help?

When you say you have changed your Apple ID, how did you change it? Did you maintain your existing Apple ID via Manage your Apple ID and EDIT it to a new email address, or did you set up a brand new Apple ID?

Video freezes when playing after ipod updating

My 60GB ipod video freezes up after a few minutes of playing video. It was operating fine until I installed the latest IPOD updater software "2006-01-10". I have tried reseting the ipod, but it makes no difference. When the freeze occurs, I found that returning back to the main menu is the only way to get the video to return to playing. Otherwise, I tried fast forward and it sometimes plays, but without sound.
This is a new IPOD, so I can return it today for a full refund from the apple store.
Any ideas?

The only way to fix it is to go back to the previous updater. You'll lose everything on your iPod but you can sync again afterwards.
1) Uninstall the 1.1 updater from your computer.
2) Install the 1.0 updater onto your computer. It's on the CD that came with your iPod.
3) Plug in your iPod.
4) Run the 1.0 updater.
5) Select 'restore'.
6) Follow instructions.
7) Resync with iTunes.
