Ipod Usb cable dead

Hi
My ipod cable (USB cable) is dead and its not working.. If i connect ipod with my cable the device is not recognized. I tried with my friends cable it worked fine. Do apple replace ipod cable ( am still under warranty period)? If so then how can i request Apple to send me the cable?..

Service request.

I have just bought an iPod Nano 8GB. Downloaded the latest version of iTunes and installed. Then as soon as plugged the USB cable into the PC it shut down instantly. I had to wait a good 5 minutes when before it would boot back up again. I have tried the front and rear USB port... but to no avail

I have 3 USB devices plugged in the rear and nothing in the front. Devices connected are:

Scanner
I am sort of guessing the iPod USB cable is causing a surge of some sort, but I might be wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be... and to fix it please?

Have you tried to use a different USB port on the PC?
Does the same thing happen when you plug in a different USB device?
Try a restart of the PRE and try again. Go to device info, reset options and select restart. Try again and see if you get the same error.
When you get the Blue Screen Of Death in Windows, it ususally means that Windows has a problem and needs to be reinstalled.
You could try to re-insall the usb drivers for your PC and see if that may resolve the BSOD error. You may need to contact the PC manufacturer for assistance in re-installing the USB drivers.

Ipod Not working (burned by ipod usb cable)

I connected my 20gb ipod to my pc with the ipod usb cable to transfer songs to my ipod, after about a minute or so by ipod got hot so i disconnected it and now my ipod wont turn on and it smells burned. What should i do, and will my warranty cover it?

I think that the only way you'll find out if the warranty covers it is if you send it for service and let Apple look at it.

I got my ipod in september and havent had any problems. recently, my computer had to go in to be fixed cuz it was overrun by viruses. during that time i used my dads computer to charge up my ipod. he doesn't have itunes, but i charged it anyway. i got my computer back and had to reinstall itunes cuz it wasnt fully functional. now it works fine, but whenever i plug my ipod/usb cable into the computer, it makes two blippy sounds but other than that doesn't register that i plugged it in. my ipod screen lights up, but thats all. i really want to get some new songs onto my ipod. help plz!!!!!!

I got the same problem with my ipod 3rd gen. before but I was successful to solve it. All you have to do is click on Start and go to control panel --> double click on "system" --> at the top of the "system hardware" window, there are 6 tabs, click on the "Hardware" tab --> click on "Device manager" button in the device manager setting. A new window "Device manager" will appear. Roll the scroll bar down till you see the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". double click on it. A list of controllers will appear. You would be most likely to see this line "Apple USB storage" with a little yellow triangle symbol infront of it. Double click on it. Go to "driver" tab and click on "rollback driver" button. And tada ... youre done! Now your computer Should recognize your Ipod no matter what.

As soon as I plug it in, the screen on my iPhone fades to white, with strange display lines all over the place, then it restarts.

Did you activate your iPhone with this Mac, and have you been syncing your iPhone with this Mac previously and this just started?
I believe your MacBook has two USB 2.0 ports. Have you tried using both?
Are you using the iPhone dock? If so, have you tried using just the cable without the dock?
Do you have access to another USB cable that will work with your iPhone such as an iPod USB cable with dock connector?

If you have access to another cable then try it and see what the results are.
Next if you truly believe the cable is bad you can take it back to store for
Exchange and/or let them test it with the same IPOD model you have.
In the future, it’s best to always check and to make sure the manufacture
states in writing that the Part is compatible with the Apple Model you’re using.
or unless your sure it okay.

Can I charge an iphone 4 with an ipod nano cable?

Are there any compatibility issues with different apple USB cables? Before getting my iphone 4, I was using my iPod nano in my car with the iPod USB cable; will this work in place of the iPhone car charger that I purchased with my phone and haven't opened?

The old car charger will work as long as you use the USB cable that came with the iPhone 4 to connect the car charger to the iPhone 4. Try it out to see for yourself.

Try disabling a/v software and turn off the Firewall on your PC.
Disable antivirus software
Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
Then connect the iPod to your computer. Launch iTunes. If your computer still won't recognize the iPod check out this article.

Once your iPod is functioning again, with it connected to your computer, launch iTunes. Select the iPod under Devices in the source list on the left.
Select the box next to: Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
That way iTunes should open automatically when you connect your iPod to your computer.
And iTunes / Preferences - Devices. You can have your iPod sync automatically whenever it's connected from the Devices pane.

3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. My Ipod has a problem. It kills USB-cables and some cables don't even get in. I sent my Ipod to Apple to be repaired. But nothing was found wrong. It killed my first cable, now the second cable doesn't work. The cables from friends don't get in. At the store where I bought it, the same story. Why is this happening? I'm so frustrate. Help me! Can I sync a MacBook Pro to my iMac.......like syncing my iPhone or iPod Touch...using a common USB cable?

Hullo all.
Am curious to know whether I can, on a regular basis, sync my new MacBook Pro to my main machine, the 27 inch iMac?
Obviously I do this with my iPhone, iPad2 and my iPod Touch.
I guess I would use a USB to USB cable...which I have, to allow the two Mac's to talk to each other.
Any suggestions? I do have Chronosync...should I try this application?
