Ipod USB in car

USB connection in the car gives message, device without function, when I plug new ipod touch
in. The car is a VW passat. Is there a setting I need to find?

Does the manufacture say it will work with your model iPod touch and iOS? An iPod touch does not work with all cars systems.

How do I use my ipod in the car without it constantly charging?  I have to use a docking cable into the USB port because the 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack I bought doesn't work with the ipod (although it does work with an MP3 player).  My ipod is a 5th generation 80GB classic.

I know this is old - but did you ever get this working. Thinking of getting a 780 ti card and I have an older mac with the mini-displayport too.

  • Does playing my ipod on the car stereo with USB hurt the battery of the ipod?

Just curious if when playing the ipod on the car stereo using the usb plugged into the stereo unit will cause the battery life to shorten since it is seems to be charging the ipod.  Or does the ipod have a regulator that stops the charging once the battery is full?

Thank you for the info.  I must have gotten a bad ipod, because I only had it for a month and the battery would drain down overnight even with the wifi and bluetooth off.  I play it on my stereo unit hooked up with the USB.  I didn't think that by doing that it would mess up the battery and cause it to drain quickly in just a month.

I getting error when connecting my new iPod in my car. Getting error that usb is not recognized.

Not all car systems are compatible with the iPod touch.  Does the documentation/website for the car system say it is compatible with an iPod with iOS 5?

  • Iphone 4 won't play via USB in car after ios7 upgrade

Music will not play via USB or Bluetooth. I own 2013 Toyota Corolla. When I plug via USB my car audio display lets me select folders and music through browse but when I select a song I get an error on the car audio display that says "read manual or contact dealership for information on how to connect". This did not happen prior to ios 7 update on my iPhone 4. Anyone else experiencing this and is there a solution or setting that I am missing?

Hi I have a 2012 Volvo V50 with premium audio. USB audio via 4S worked fine until the IOS 7 upgrade. Now i keep getting the "this accessory is not supported message"
I have read through this forum and the only thing apple suggests is "update your car oudio system"
This is total BS!  Ever heard of backward compatibility? Get this fixed or Android is next for me! Apples resoponse so far shows absolute arrogance.
I am not the only one and a simple search shows thousands of people having the same issues. Asked my car dealer already and they have loads of people with the same issues. Only devices with issues are Iphones and Ipods since the IOS 7 upgrade. Reset as suggested does not work.

  • Hi! What do I need to be able to listen to the music of my iPod in my car? Thanks!

Hi! What do I need to be able to listen to the music of my iPod in my car? Thanks!

You can hear your music of your iPod from your car via Bluetooth or by a USB port (maybe located in your car) and connect it with the cable.
If your car doesn´t have does two things, you can do it by accesories: http://store.apple.com/us/search/Belkin-TuneCast-Auto-with-ClearScan?mco=Nzk5NTQ 1Ng#

  • Connecting my iPod to my car stereo

I am trying to find out the best way to connect my iPod to my car stereo. I know that there are lots of different ways. I have heard that if it is connected to a 3.5mm jack on the front of a car stereo and then into the headphone jack on the iPod it makes the sound quality inferior. I have seen USB ports on the front of stereo's and have also seen leads with ipod dock to 2 RCA leads which connect to the rear of the stereo, therefore making a more permanent fix. Which of these is best? I am happy to take the stereo out although i think that maybe it would be easier to buy a stereo with a front USB connector. Will this give good sound reproduction, and if so can i use the white usb lead which comes with iPods??? Please help.

You can find my car stereos that are ipod compatible.
Personally, I have an Alpine deck with an additional ipod adaptor which is hidden behind the dash and is accessable via the glovebox. The ipod adaptor is connected to the ipod through the dock connection enabling you to fully contral and access your ipod through the car stero while your ipod remains neatly tucked away (and hidden) in your glovebox. I believe they sell stereo head units that do not require and additional ipod adaptor... do a little research and I'm sure you can find something in your price range.
Also, to answer your first question, you shouldn't lose any sound qaulity if your car setup is done this way.

  • Powering an IPod in a car with FM transmitter

I'm going to buy a video IPod for Christmas and one of the new ITrip LCD's that hook onto the dock of the IPod to transmit over an FM frequency (the new ITrip LCD's have gotten pretty good reviews). However, since it plugs into the dock, that limits me to charging it with my car lighter. I was told there is a USB mini B on the ITrip that I could use for power but am not sure how. Does anyone know of an IPod accessory or combination of accessories that I can use to power/charge from a mini-B USB to a car lighter?
Also, should I also get a normal dock or charger for my home? I'll probably only use the Ipod in my car so I don't want to buy an expensive dock station.

  • IPod Nano to Car Speakers

I have a white 2 GB iPod Nano 1st Generation and I want to be able to play my iPod through my car speakers. I already have the USB cable and the car charger, can i just plug the cable & the charger into my car and then turn off my radio and press play...or do i need to by one of those FM Radio iPod converters for a car in order for me to play my iPod in my car?

Either that or an expensive retrofit. My last car had a lousy radio so I bought a Sony that had an aux port. There are also some really expensive models that have iPod ports. Another option for some cars is an expensive device that adds an auxilliary input to your factory radio but there can be downsides. For me I have a choice of losing my XM radio or losing audible warnings. And then there's the FM transmitters. I bought a Kensington digital and am mostly happy with it. I say mostly because in some areas there is no free frequency so the iPod is unusable.

  • Static when playing music via USB in car stereo after updating to OS4.1

    Greetings everyone.
After updating my iPod Touch (3rd Gen) to OS4.1 I am experiencing static, scratching like or popping sounds when I am playing music in my car using the USB port. I do not get these noises when I am listening with a set of earbuds, only when in the car and connected via USB. I haven't yet tried bluetooth connection but will give it a shot tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this?
If any one from Apple is following this thread please give me some advice how to correct this problem. I suppose if I have too and bluetooth connection gives me the same trouble I will need to restore my iPod. Is it possible to go back in OS? I was using OS 4.0.2 prior without any problems.
    Thanks
    Dave

Dave this is what i went thru this past week with Apple Tech
    Ipod problem
Aug 19 2010 Purchased New IPOD McDill AFB
Sep 15th 2010 Upgraded IPOD software from 3.1.3 to 4.1
    On Sep 16 2010,
I notice that I tunes was skipping in my car using the USB connector. When I use the Audio output jack on the IPod the ITunes music did not skip. I hooked up a NANO to the USB connector in my car and the music played good no skips.
    Sep 17 2010
I notified Apple Care and told them of the problem and they concluded it was an IPOD Problem. They issued a repair number (177988440) and notified Apple Distributer in Brandon, FL ( 50 miles from my home) to allow me to exchange the
    IPOD for a newer one Ser# 9E0344816K2.
When I connected the new IPod to My Mac I was prompted to upgrade the IPOD software from 3.1.3 to 4.1. However, before I upgraded I notified the Apple Technician (Ms. Daylin Dat # 877-416-4271 Ex 2845) of the replacement and I asked if it was feasible to upgrade the IPOD to 4.1 since I believed the new up grade caused the problem.
Daylin, said to go ahead and up grade the IPOD to the 4.1 version.
When I completed the up grade I connected the IPOD to my car’s USB connection and the same problem occurred in the new IPOD.
I took the new IPOD to Gettle Toyotta in Bradenton and asked if I could use one of their cars that has a USB connection and test out my IPOD and sure enough I had the same problem with the ITunes music (It was skipping).
I notified Apple Technician again and they said go back up to the Brandon Apple distributor and get a replacement for this IPOD. I said no because it was a 100 mile round trip so they said were going to mail me a replacement.
I returned the IPOD to Apple they did all kinds of in house test and said there was no problem wit it so they sent it back to me. So now i'm stuck with a IPOD that i cannot use with the USB connection in my auto
Note I went on Toyota Prius forum site and there was a lot of discussion with the IPOD 3rd generation with IOS 4.1
A lot of people are have this problem
I notified Apple Tech and sent them a link to the Prius Form site.
So that where it stands right now.
By the way I hooked up the IPOD to a brand new Honda USB port and it worked great so the issue is with the IPOD IOS 4.1 and Toyota autos.

  • Problem with using my iPod in my car

My Acura has a USB cord so I can play my iPod through my car speakers quite easily. SInce I have a navi screen am able to see the iPod screen on my dashboard. EVerything works great except for one thing - Podcasts.
For some reason the podcasts don't show up on the screen and I cannot play them. I can play music, but no podcasts.
ANy ideas on how I can listen to podcasts?

my only idea would be convert copies of the podcasts to audio files (if they aren't protected files you should be able to use FFmpegX to do this). Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  • How do I get my ipod shuffle/nano to play music in my 2009 hyundai elantra's ipod usb port? It reads the device (ipod) and says its "empty"?

I have a 2009 hyundai elantra with an ipod usb port, when I try to hook up my shuffle with its usb connector to my car, the stereo dashboard says its reading the device and then says the device is empty...therefore no music gets played or heard. What am I doing wrong? Or is there some sort of cable i need to be using with my ipod to get it to play in my car?Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either you have accidently posted this in the wrong forum (this is the LiveType discussion board), or the fora are screwing up again (if they ever stopped). To answer your question, though, you need some kind of converter that will export only the audio. I'm sure there are many free solutions out there, but not being familiar with Windows, the only one I know off the top of my head is Quicktime Pro ($30).
Either way, your iPod problems shouldn't be affecting your caps lock key.

  • I need an app to be able to play my ipod in my car... what is it called?

Read above that is all I want to know.

"I dunnon thats just what it said"
    That is what what said?
" I have one that plugs into your car lighter"
You have one what that plugs into your cigarette lighter.
It is very difficult to help with no information at all.
You want to listen to your ipod from your car stereo?
How do you plan to connect the ipod to the car stereo?  Fm Transmitter? Bluetooth?  USB cable? Aux cable?
Do you have one of these devices that will allow this?  Which one?
Why do you think that you need an app?

  • Volvo XC60 - iPod USB Connection Issues

I am having issues with my Volvo XC60 recognizing my iPods via the car's USB connection.  Is this a widely known issue?  Does anyone know if there is a fix in place for this issue?

I've had a very similar problem with all my iPods. First I had a shuffle, and it rebooted windows a few times... Then I returned that and bought a Nano. A month later that was stolen, but it DID restart my computer a few times again. Now I have a 60gb video iPod, and my computer sees the iPod, but the updater and iTunes do NOT.
In regards to your specific problem... I think it's because a Windows dll file is corrupted, missing, or damaged... I can't guarantee that this will work no matter what, but at least my computer hasn't crashed yet since I got my video iPod, and I've run this program.
First, make sure you have all the latest updates from windows update. Then, go to this site, and click on the donload link for tuneXP 1.5.
    http://www.driverheaven.net/dforce/showdoc.php?doc=txp_download
Download it, and install the program (it's totally free!) After you install it, start up the program, and click on the Miscellaneous menu, and then click on system file checker. (NOTE: You WILL NEED your origianl windows CD for this to finish properly.) While doing the system file check if it ever says that it can't find a file or can't read the disc, ALWAYS tell it to RETRY... Eventually it'll find the proper file on the windows disc.
After it finishes (can take anywhere from 20 min to a couple hours depending on how fast your pc is) restart your pc, and then try using your ipod again.
This has caused my computer to not crash anymore when having my ipod plugged in, but now I can't see my ipod in itunes, or the ipod updater.
I can still put music only on my ipod though using the vpod program which is completely free and easy to use. I have to be able to use itunes to be able to put videos, album art, and pictures on my ipod, but at least I have music on it.
Let me know if this helps, and if you want to know where to get vpod.

  • Problems with iPhone 3G and iPod Touch with Car Stereos

There are three cars in our family, and every car as a stereo with built-in iPod interfaces. Car 1 has a Pioneer system, Car 2 has a Kenwood, and my car has an Alpine system. I can't hear any audio when I connect an iPod touch or iPhone 3G to the Kenwood and Pioneer systems. They can perform functions on the iPhone/iPod touch, such as change songs, randomize songs, repeat songs, etc, however, there is no audio. 80% of the time the Alpine does the same thing; 10% of the time an error is displayed on the head unit; and 10% the iPod Touch/iPhone works perfectly.
All three systems can operate my iPod Nano correctly without any problems at all. Because the same problem occurs to all the stereos and because the iPod Touch and iPhone are basically the same minus phone capabilities, I am beginning to believe that the problem is with them and not the stereo systems. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how can I fix it if it is fixable?

Which Touch (first or second generation) and which iPhone (2G or 3G)?
And what generation Nano are you testing with.
Your auto systems may not be compatible with the newer generation model iPods/Phones.
