IPod very low on battery and now won't turn on when plugged into PC

I haven't used my iPod for a few weeks, so now the battery is obviously completely empty. The problem is that it won't turn on when I plug it into my PC to charge, even after half an hour or longer. Is there something I can do, or do I need to get a completely new battery put in?

If you are unable to give specifics about the problem or what you need to do, it's going to be rather hard to give you recommendations or alternate suggestions.
As I said, if I recall correctly, the iPod will stay on if it's being charged. But, in case I'm misremembering, are you holding down the button until you see the red arrow that says "Slide to power off"? Have you tried restoring it?

  • I replaced battery and now will only turn on when plugged into a charger..

I replaced my batter on my iphone 3gs and then it will only turn on when i connect it to a power source.
After it has turned on you can take it off charge and it will stay on...
    Help please!! thanks

Either you got a bad battery, didn't install it correctly, did some other damage while installing, or haven't let it charge enough yet. There's really nothing we can do to help you with any of those scenarios.

  • Dropped iPhone 4s and now won't turn on unless plugged into wall

    Hi there,
So I dropped my iphone 4s onto a hard floor 2 days ago, it was at 95% battery at that point. It now will only turn on when I plug it into the wall, and as soon as I unplug it, the phone turns off immediately.
When it is plugged into the wall it shows 100% battery and the signal (both wireless and carrier) are very touchy and it says 'searching...' a lot of the time.
I have had the phone for 19 months now and am out of warranty. It is also worth noting that 1 month ago I replaced the battery myself because I was having battery issues and it has been working perfectly since then up until this incident.
If anyone has any idea of how to fix this or any idea of what the problem may be it would be much appreciated. I have tried holding the home screen and top button simultaneously and also tried plugging into my laptop to restore but the laptop will not start the phone up, it just goes into a cycle of going to apple logo screen and then shutting off.
    Thanks very much.

The drop either jarred loose the battery connection or cracked the main circuit board. As you have repaired it yourself Apple won't touch it, so you might as well take it apart and see what has happened.

  • IPod classic won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock; what's up? will it hurt to leave it on all the time?

I bought a new iPod Classic and it won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock. Is this normal and will it hurt the iPod if i leave it on all the time?

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.
    Apple - Batteries
I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan

  • Ipod Touch 3g Got hot and now won't turn on

I have an iPod touch 3g, 8gb's to be specific. I forgot the password to get into it, so I plugged it into my computer in order to reset the whole thing. I plugged it in and it connected, but after three seconds or so it disconnected. I tried plugging it in again, but the computer didn't notice anything plugged in.
I looked on the internet for some advice and I learned that I could hold the power button and the power button at the same time for somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds to restart it. I did that. The iPod turned off, but it got really hot and now won't power on plugged in or not.
What caused this? It's written all over this website that doing that would just reset the iPod, not kill it! Did it toast the motherboard?

The cable should not cause a problem unless it was really damaged and had power going to the wrong contacts.

Solved, I started to put it into disk mode but only got so far as the apple logo (I'd plugged it into my computer but it wasn't registering. When the apple logo came up it registered). I then disconnected it from the computer and I had sound again

  • IPhone 4 won't turn on when plugged into computer nor charger

My refurbished iPhone 4 has the latest iOS 5.1.1 update and my mom's computer has iTunes version 10.6.3.25. However, recently it has been having issues holding a charge and now as of yesterday it won't turn on period. When it does it's only for a split few seconds and then it turns off again.
When it's connected to a wall charger it immediately turns on
and then lock screen apprears with the message "activation required". *Note it says it has at least 75% battery*
Upon entering my lock code my home page is only a page that says to "connect to iTunes".
When I attempt to take the phone off the charger, it dies
and is completely unresponsive as I connect it to a computer.
The computer doesn't recognize it and the screen remains black.
If I leave the phone alone on the charger it will continously go through a process of shutting itself off and turning back on. The time always restarts at around 7p or so and the date is Wednesday, December 31st. Also as it's plugged in, I manage to turn the phone off and on and reset it but the phone just keeps displaying the "activation required" screen. Can this be fixed at a Genius bar or should I have it replaced?

Sounds like a damaged device, take it to Apple for evaluation.
If it's under warranty, they will replace it.
If it's not under warranty, an Out of Warranty replacement is $149US.

  • IPhone says 'Connect To iTunes'  but won't turn on when plugged into the computer.

    Hi all.
Having a major problem with my iPhone today. This morning it slipped off my desk somehow and fell on the floor. When I picked it up it would not turn on or respond, so I plugged it into the charger, the apple logo appeared and then the lock screen came up - it said slide to unlock, so I did and then it just said 'connect to iTunes' and I could not use it at all. So I unplugged it from the charger and it immediately turned off and became unresponsive again. I plugged it into the computer and started up iTunes. The apple logo appeared on the phone but then disappeared after about 15s. Then a few moments later the logo appeared again. And then disappeared again. This happens every time I plug it into the computer and what I described with the charger happens every time I plug it in there. Unfortunatley I cant seem to put it into recovery mode, especially as my home button is almost completely unresponsive and I have no idea if its working when trying to put into recovery mode. Please help!

You could try to do a hard reset, sometimes resetting the phone helps. Hold down the sleep/wake button on the top and the home button until you see the apple logo, this make take a minute or two but this might help.

  • My iPod shuts down after 30 minutes. Won't turn on until plugged into dock.

My iPod plays for about 30 minutes and then shuts down.  It won't come back on until I either plug it into my computer or my iHome dock. I've tried resetting and syncing it.  Help!

You might have a bad battery. But first try recalibrating the battery gauge. Run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off and doesn't restart. Then charge for 4 hours with the wall charger. Repeat the process. If the problem remains you need a new battery.

My 5S just started doing this on Thursday: every fraction of a second or so it oscillates between connecting and disconnecting with the charger (USB or wall, doesn't matter). Since it's still under the limited warrantee, I took it to the local Mac dealer (I live in a small town w/out an Apple store) and they shipped it off. I'm waiting now for the replacement--telephonless, too!
What concerns me is that many people seem to be having this issue.
You were right to be suspicious of the Apple store employees. Once they replicated the behavior that you experienced, they should have immediatly offered to exchange your phone. Anything else, in my opinion, is unacceptable. As long as your phone is still doing it, I'd go back, ask for the manager and tell them to exchange your phone.

  • I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S. It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S, 16 GB to the most recent version (8.1?).  I don't know what I was updating from, because I can't access that, but it was whatever was installed on it (I got it about a year ago, so probably 6.something).
It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync with my macbook plus, which is what I have always sync'd it to.  (I backed it up and sync'd it right before I tried to update the software.)
Since it originally froze almost 3 hours ago, it shows a white screen with the apple on it and a line underneath.  When I try to sync with my laptop, it says it needs me to enter a passcode on the phone, which I can't enter because the screen is frozen.  So I'm unable to access the iPhone portion of iTunes.
I have tried to turn it off, with no luck.  I have tried rebooting my laptop and syncing, but I still get the same result.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I really wanted to wait to update the software, but I was having internet connectivity issues for the past 3 weeks, and Sprint suggested updating the phone's software.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.

MacBook Pro turned off on its own and now won't turn back on.  Battery had 41% just before this happened and green indicator on power cord is showing, so it seems like it's charging.  What should I do?

The led on the power adapter should be amber if it is charging.  Green just indicates that it is supplying power to the MBP.
