IPod Video 30G Won't turn off, any suggestions?

My daughter has an iPod Video 30G player. All of the sudden this morning, the thing won't shut down. She presses and holds the section on the wheel that is supposed to turn the thing off and nothing happens.
Everything else works fine. The songs all play, the menu, forwarding through songs, etc... The only problem is the thing won't turn off.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have exactly the same problemo.
While i'm jogging, my 30gig video ipod will freeze up cold and I have to let the battery completely drain before I can use the thing. The odd thing is that it only freezes after a song finishes (very considerate). None of the buttons work, nada.
Is there a way to reset the thing short of waiting all day for the battery to drain...or is it time to sell it on eBay and buy a new one?????

my ipad froze during update. cant turn off. any suggestions?

If you're sure that the update isn't still happening then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Ipod video 60 gig wont turn off

60 gig ipod video won't turn off when i hold down play button...any suggestions, i already did all the resets and reloaded my music...

just to let you know, I had this same issue, combined with the fact that my ipod wouldn't automatically shut itself off either. I unplugged my ipod from the computer this morning and when I came back to it several hours later, it was still on. however, as things seem to go with me, when I try to duplicate the issue (tried to shut it off) it worked perfectly. go figure.
hope you get your issue figured out though. good luck!

  • IPod classic 80gig won't turn off

My iPod classic 80 gig (2007) won't turn off. It seems to me the whole Play/Pause switch is non-functional. How to fix? Everything else seems all right.
Also, when I do 'reset', and get the apple logo, is that signifying 'turned off'? (I've just bought the iPod 2nd hand, so am not familiar with it.)
    Replies appreciated.

    For what it's worth:
My iPod Photo (60G, purchased June 2005) wouldn't turn off either. I nearly always play the iPod docked to a Bose SoundDock external speaker. Yesterday, I lifted it off the speaker dock without turning it off first to take it on a trip. Discovered it wouldn't turn off by holding down pause/play, even for a full minute. No choice but to let it drain until the next day. Back home, I placed it in the dock, let it charge for about 15 minutes, turned it on (it turned on OK), turned it off *while still docked* (it turned off OK), took it out of the dock, turned it on out of the dock (OK), turned it off out of the dock (OK).
Not sure what, if anything, this means.

  • IPOD CLASSIC. WON'T TURN ON :/ ANY INFO HELPFUL

I recently recieved an iPod Classic for Christmas, one my parents purchased from eBay. It was working fine for about two weeks, and then it stopped working. It won't turn on at all unless I connect it to my computer with the USB cord. I have USB 2.0, because my computer is new. So, my iPod flashes on and off on the apple logo screen, for about a second and then starts all over again, never long enough for it to access the computer and be recognized by it. But when I push the reset buttons it still flashes, for a second longer. Any ideas on what I should do? And because I got it used, I have no idea about the warranty. Is this possibly a battery problem, if so how can i fix this, possibly the cheapest way. And do you know if all eBay purchases have warranty's? Please respond.

  • My 5Th Gen iPod (video) never hibernates nor turns off, not even manually.

I have a 5th Gen 30GB iPod (video) (2006-May). Last one year I used it without any trouble.
Very recently it started behaving wired. First I noticed this, when I found the battery gets drained out overnight everyday. Then I figured out that my iPod is not hibernating as it used to do, when not used for long. Then I tried to turn it off manually. I pressed and hold the play/pause button for more than 2 min, couple of times (as described in manual to turn off) with no results. I am using latest software both for iPod and iTune, also tried resetting it, wiping out all music and video, but no change in its behavior. My iPod simply refuses to shut down or turn off or hibernate; only when battery gets excused the screen gets blank after draining out all the battery. Apart form that everything works fine, it pays all music and video without any problem after a recharge, of course the charge does not exist more than couple of hours.
Please help if anyone know the reason and/or fix for this problem.

How to reformat specifically to Windows FAT32? I get only one button "Restore" in the iTunes summery tab when I connect the iPod. After clicking the button it gives me a yes/no option. On yes it goes ahead with the restore operation with progress bar etc.
The problem is, in the connected mode it behaves correctly and turns off momentarily by pressing and holding play/pause button, but comes back with the charging/charged logo. Which is normal. Now at this point if I disconnect, the screen gets white for some time and then turns off.
But when not connected through the USP port (i.e. with the battery only mode) it refuses to turn off, even if I press and hold the play/pause button, also does not hibernate as it used to do previously.

  • Ipod wont turn off((any suggestions))

my ipod nano will not turn off no matter how long i hold the button.i will only turn off if i set the sleep time.can somebody help please???
    thanx =]

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried resetting your iPod? (hold menu and center buttons together for 7 seconds. Do this a few times)
Does it now work after resetting? Also, whenever you are having difficulties with your iPod responding to button-pressing, put your iPod down on a flat hard surface (like a desk), then click your button(S). See if it works.
Go to "Settings> Main Menu" and turn the Sleep button "on". Go back to your back the main menu again, and see if the "Sleep" button will work if you click it. If it does, that's your temporary fix.
I hope those things will help you!

  • My iphone 5 has a bad signal reception LTE turned off any suggestions

I purchased my Iphone 5 last November 2012 by Cosmote Greek network provider.
I am using an iphone 3GS as well and I can compare the strength of the signal reception all time.
Usually the 3GS has 3 signal bars more than the Iphone 5 which many times goes with no signal. The LTE is turned off as well any suggestions?
    Thanks

I'd just like to say that ahs70's post on Dec 1, 2013 at 1:17am on Pg. 9 worked for me as well: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5338609?start=120&tstart=0
If your iPhone's battery is acting up you need to determine if it's a software issue or a hardware/battery issue.  To do that, after syncing your iPhone, erase/hard reset all data and settings from your iPhone to what it was from the factory as new.  This can be found in Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings.  Then test it out for a day or two.  If it's still acting up then it's likely a hardware issue and you will need to get your battery replaced.  If your warranty is done than check out this link to get a battery kit to replace your iPhone battery yourself:  http://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPhone/iPhone-5-Replacement-Battery/IF118-001#produc tDescription
If your iPhone is now working properly after hard resetting it than it's most likely a software issue.  This battery issue only started after upgrading to the new iOs7, so it is obviously related to the update not properly installing itself.  What has worked for me and many others is to manually update to iOS 7.0.4 using the full downloaded version of the update which is about 1.32 Gigs.
But first you need to find out what model of iPhone you have, click here to determine if it's GSM or CDMA: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Then go here and scroll down to download the iOS 7.0.4 complete update for your device:  http://www.downloadios7.org/download-ios-7-0-4-ipsw-file.html
Then scroll up on the download page and follow the instructions of updating your iPhone manually following the instructions below:  "IPSW with iTunes"
    And your done.
    Problem solved.
I only posted this because it was a very frustrating problem that no one really seemed to figure out a solution for.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPhone keeps flickering apple logo and won't turn on, any suggestions?

So I have a 4s 16 GB with the latest version of iOS 7 and just randomly as I was texting my friend my iPhone crashed. When I try to turn it on the apple logo stays flickering. I tried to enter in recovery mode and restore my iPhone but each time before the restore starts loading on the iPhone i get an error message 9. I have the latest version of iTunes and as well as the latest version of OS X on my macbook. I do not have any warranty on my phone which is why I haven't bothered calling apple. Any suggestions? I'd greatly aprreciate it.

    Howdy therye9,
It sounds like you are at this point unable to restore your phone due to error code 9. According to the following article, there maybe some security software interfering with communication to the update server so thats where I would start:
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#9
    Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • I have a mid 2010 intel iMac, 3.2 Ghz i3 that won't turn on, any suggestions?

I attempted to turn my iMac on and nothing. Tried power button, mouse movement nothing. I unpluged the power chord to make sure all connections were good, repluged power chord and pressed power button and the iMac powered on with a very extended grey screen. As this is over 3 years old what should I check and or do. This machine has had the hard drive (1TB), optical superdrive, LCD panel & fan replaced under warranty/extended warrany. My 3 year extended warranty has expired so I am questing putting any money into this or saving for a new one? All help appreciated

I let the mac go into sleep mode and this morning it would not wake up. I unplugged the power cord, held the power button in for 20 seconds, replugged the power cord in and it booted normally. Ant suggestions?

  • IPod video won't turn off

I have only had my 30G Video iPod since November and i have taken really godo care of it. Suddenly i take it out charge in my computer, eject and it won't turn off. If i hold pause or wait, it simply wont turn off, but everything elese works. Any advice? Is there a setting i messed up to make it do that or is it simply broken?
30G Black Video iPod   Mac OS 9.0.x

Make sure you don't have the hold switch on first.
Then hold down the Menu and Centre buttons at the same time until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. This will reset your iPod, it will not damage the contents of your iPod.

  • 30gb ipod video. brand new. just out of box and won't turn off

I did everything as the instructions said. I installed the software then connected the ipod. It will not turn off, so naturally it won't reset. It is stuck on the screen with different languages and i don't see how re-installing the software is going to help me turn off the ipod. I feel like an idiot now for buying one.

Let charge your iPod for a while, for the time being, read the following which you find helpful

    OR use this method
    1. Press-hold the Home button (big circle below the screen)and the Sleep/Wake button (on top of the iPhone) simultaneously.
    2. Continue holding both buttons (Ignore the"Slide to power off") until the iPhone shuts off and begins to restart.
3.You may let go when you see the silver Applelogo.

  • IPod classic won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock; what's up? will it hurt to leave it on all the time?

I bought a new iPod Classic and it won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock. Is this normal and will it hurt the iPod if i leave it on all the time?

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.
    Apple - Batteries
I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan
