IPod Video 5G 80 gig - White noise

I have an iPod Video 80 gig and I notice that their is always a background white noise (hiss). I start a music and press pause for this test.
When I close the volume I can hear a clip when the volume is close. As soon I increase the volume I hear a white noise (hiss) and it keep the same level until I get to the 3/4 of the volume then it's start to make the white noise louder and also I can here some clipping that is comming from the wheel until I get to max volume.
Clicker sound : OFF
EQ : OFF
Sound Check : OFF
The problem I got with this white noise is when I listen to calm music I always here the white noise (hiss) like I am listen to a tape cassette.
I was hearing this with my Sony MDR-EX70 but I just purchase the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 Pro (white) and these headphone are so clear compared to my Sony that now I hear the white noise even more !
So I would like to know if this a poor SN ratio noise of the iPod built-in amplification or it is just my iPod and my friend iPod too ?
It would be interesting if a couple of people could try the test and see if they got the same background white noise.
- Start a music
- Pause
- Close the volume (should hear a click a the close position)
- Increase volume (should start to hear the white noise (hiss)
- Increase the volume to max and at about the 3/4 of the volume up to the max volume you should hear some clipping noise from the wheel sensors and the white noise should also increase in level up to the max volume.
If all iPod are doing this then Apple should redesign the amplification to increase the Signal to noise ratio better than what it is right now.
I would like to have some feedback on this from the people who gonna make this test.
Thanks

Also when I plug it in my stereo system I can hear the clip when I close the volume.
The white noise is their also but I cannot hear it at the listening distance from my speaker. But if i'm right whe you plug the iPod on the dock we are not using the internal amplifier of the iPod but just the output signal.
I have a Class A amplifier in the living room so to ear some white noise from the speaker I need to bring my ear 2 inches away from the tweeter.
On the iPod the amplifier could be a Class D with alot of white noise.

  • Ipod video cases

Which is the best case for a 5g 30gig Ipod video?
    Are the zCovers any good?
Are the sizes different with the 60 gig Ipod video and the 30gig Ipod video?
30 gig Ipod video   Windows 2000

I just got my zcover today. It’s pretty good. It
collects a lot of dust though. I got the 30 gig black
tough skin. It’s pretty awesome. But I decided not to
put the plastic shield in; instead I left the ipod's
original screen protector, the sticker thing. But one
problem I’ve noticed is that most headphone jacks
that are bent won’t fit into the earphone jack.
    Thanks that anwsers my question.

  • Extracted audio from video file is white noise

Hi, I'm working on an animated series as a sound designer (my first gig as such). I'm getting .mov files from the director with some audio already added. In some cases, he just wants me to add tracks to what's already there and export it containing my audio and his.
The video looks OK (though the playback is pretty choppy, but that might be system limitations) but the extracted audio that shows up on the separate audio track is very loud white noise. There appears to be breaks where there's silence on the track but the audio is completely fuzzed-out and unintelligible.
The only thing I can think of is I'm using XP, he's on OS X. However, we both have current versions of QuickTime so why would it matter.
Any advice or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi grilch,
I'd definitely need to know the format of the audio stream. If you play the MOV file directly in Quicktime, does the audio play properly?
    Thanks,

  • I recorded a 8min video on my brand new ipod touch 4g 9 gigs,i had .9gs bef

i recorded a 8min video on my brand new ipod touch 4g 9 gigs,i had .9gs before the vid, after i was done recording it,it said it saved it,but its not in my photos but it took up the memory im down to .3gs now in itunes it says i have 281 photos but on my ipod i have around 278 ***

Are you saying you can't find the video in your iPod Touch, or you can't find it in iTunes? Because iTunes doesn't save any videos from your camera roll, you have to go into the device from your computer and drag it to your computer.

  • IPod Video 80 Gig won't mount on desktop or in iTunes

I just bought a new ipod video 80 gig. And a MacPro.
It worked great for about a week, and works when it is not connected to the computer, but when I connect it it just displays the "do not disconnect" screen and won't appear in itunes or in the finder.
despite resetting, re-installing itunes, I can't get it to mount on any computer.
Is this a Apple Store issue, or is anyone aware of a fix?

    Seen these?
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X.
iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes.

  • 30 GIG Video iPod, Video Options not available - Please help!

    Hi.
I have a 30 GIG iPod Video 5th gen, with the latest iPod updater software installer on it.
But when I look at the iPod preferences, when it's plugged in via USB, all Video options (manual vs automatic etc) are all greyed out and not available for selection.
And I can't drag any videos onto the iPod (even with the right video format!).
It's like the iPod itself doesn't recognised that it is an Video one, like it has a complex and can only deal with music and photos.
Can anyone help or offer advice?
    Anyone had a similar problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help guys.
Even with the iPod set to manual, I couldn't drag iPod format videos directly onto it.
Did a factory restart, and it has fixed the problem.
And just a note; the options in the video tab will always be greyed out, when the iPod is set to manually update songs.
    cheers!

  • Why is the video audio white noise when I share my project since I updated to 10.0.9

On the movies I created before I updated to 10.0.9, the audio prortion of the video is now white noise. The audio is fine when played back in FCP, but when i share the project it is white noise. When I burn it to BluRay the audio is gone all together. Even when I make a master file to my desktop, it still happens. The music I added to my project is fine. It just the audio that is part of the video clips that is affected. I've turned off the EQ's and Compressors I was using and I even tried moving the audio to the center channel instead of mono. No luck. Need some help. I can't figure this out.

I'm encountering the same problem as the original poster.  In my case, I'm using FCP 10.1 (running on OS 10.9.1).  My source file is DV video imported via FireWire from a DV camcorder.  The clip's audio is fine when playing inside of Final Cut Pro 10.1, but when I share the project the audio track is just white noise.  My share settings are to Apple 720p devices (the subseqent dialog boxes indicate the software has figured out it's really 640x480 video).
Here's what the QuickTime Inspector says about the source file:
    Format:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
    FPS:  29.97
    Data Size:  5.87 GB
    Data Rate:  30.30 Mbit/s
    Current Size:  640-480 (actual)
I tried changing from "faster encode" to "better quality", but it made no difference.
The rather dated version of Compressor I have (v3.5.3) was able to encode the clip to H.264 640x480 and the results are fine.  However, it took way longer than FCP 10.1 (I think it's too old to be taking advantage of the GPU).

  • Ipod video 30 gig latest version?

I purchased the ipod video 30 gig at Sam's Club. Is this the latest hardware version? I heard that there is a "later" version with a better battery life and screen display. Or shouldn't I really worry about it?

  • IPod Video - white screen, no video, won't turn off either

    Greetings.
I have an iPod video that recently has been giving me quite a bit of trouble. The lcd doesn't display the menu or anything 95% of the time. The backlight turns on so it looks like it's powered, but I can't see the menu or anything else. When I turn it off, dark lines, sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical go across the screen. The lines also sometimes appear as colored lines when the screen is lit.
Also it doesn't want to turn off via holding the center and menu buttons. It will go dark, then I'll feel some minor mechanical vibrations followed by an audible click (not the wheel). If I let the buttons go after about 10 seconds the screen turns on again to white screen without any video.
If I keep holding down the center and menu buttons, then it will continue to do cycles of the mechanical movements followed by the audible click, then do the movements and click again and again. Once I let go, the white screen reappears.
I've tried accessing the diagnostic mode, but that doesn't work since it just starts up in the white screen mode with no video.
I'm way past my warrenty. I've already opened my iPod several times to ensure all of the wires are firmly attached. I think its the LCD, but since it has trouble turning completely off, I wasn't sure if that means it's actually the logic board.
Any suggestions? Would it be a smart to try replacing the LCD screen? Or is it R.I.P. for my iPod?
    Thanks!

Hopefully the battery has leak after long disused.
Recharge the iPod battery for at least 4 hours, normally it would take 30 minutes of recharge before the screen comes to live.
Disconnect the iPod, safely, after charging.
If your battery is good and can recharge fully.
Hard Reset the iPod - Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
    Select your preferred language.
Connect your iPod back to the Mac, and see if it is recognised by iTunes or Finder
Good Luck! and you will need it when syncing your iPod.

  • Ipod video 60 gig wont turn off

60 gig ipod video won't turn off when i hold down play button...any suggestions, i already did all the resets and reloaded my music...

just to let you know, I had this same issue, combined with the fact that my ipod wouldn't automatically shut itself off either. I unplugged my ipod from the computer this morning and when I came back to it several hours later, it was still on. however, as things seem to go with me, when I try to duplicate the issue (tried to shut it off) it worked perfectly. go figure.
hope you get your issue figured out though. good luck!

  • Keep hearing white noise when a flash video is playing

Whenever a flash video is playing (ie. Youtube) then I will hear white noise in the foreground and barely hear the original audio in the background. This also happens with facebook notifications and other flash sounds. I have checked my sound card and drivers and also switched the sound card over to see if this solves the problem but it seems to just be linked with Firefox at the moment

hello, maybe it's an issue with the protected mode in the flash plugin - you could try if [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-crashes#w_solution-2-downgrade-to-flash-10-3 downgrading to flash 10.3] (which is still supported) or [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround disabling protected mode] makes a difference.

  • Imovie11 audio on video clips does not convert when sharing, just get white noise

Imovoie 11 audio on video clips works in project mode, upon sharing to theater or file it generates whitenoise. Project mode has original video sound and added song paired correctly. Comes out as white noise in theater or new file.

    Hi,
I did some more testing this time a shorter 2 minute video. Again trying to mute sections of the audio. I used garageband again to edit. Then convert the MOV with both FFmpegX and Flash 8. FFmepgX converted the file in about 1 minute, but still did not render the muted sections as mute.
I converted then with flash 8 it took about 30 minutes, god that is slow, but it did retain the muted sections. So I'm thinking maybe the FFmepgX converted has an issue with audio tracks that come from garage band.
    Thanks,
    Mike
