IPod video 80gb help??

I just got a new iPod video 80gb for Christmas.
But when i plug it into my PC, it won't start syncing.
All i get i message from iTunes saying something like: The software required for communication with the iPod-unit is not properly installed. Install iTunes again to install the iPod-software. (Bad translation from norwegiean to english, but it's something like that).
And well, i have installed iTunes again (two times) but the same error just keeps showing up.
I've tried to use a different cable, different USB port, and so on, but nothing works.
I do got a iPod mini 4gb that was syncing just great with iTunes, but when i got my new one, after installing iTunes again, even my iPod mini won't sync.
So do anyone know what i should do? That message is all i get, and I've heard with other that it is supposed to come up some questions and stuff the first time you plug the iPod in, but I haven't even seen that.
So if anyone got some suggestions for what to do. I will be grateful.
Sorry my bad english btw:p

  • No longer able to import photos onto my iPod Video 80GB

    Hi all
I have had my iPod Video 80gb for about 2 months and at first enjoyed viewing my photos on it. The day that V7.3 was released & I upgraded I experienced several problems, some of which are already well documented on this forum. One problem that nobody else seems to have mentioned, is that I can now no longer import any of my photos onto my iPod. I receive the message...
“Some of your photos including filename.jpg were not copied to the iPod Caraline’s iPod because they cannot be displayed on your iPod.
As absolutely nothing had changed on either my iPod or my computer (other than iTunes version) I presumed this problem was tied up the new version. As I was having other problems with this version I decided to uninstall and re-install V7.2. However the problem persists. I even tried deleting everything from my iPod and every iTunes file, folder & cache and starting from scratch again with V7.2. I have also re-set my iPod back to the factory settings.
It does not seem to matter what the source of the original photos was, either from camera, or scanned, nor does it matter the size. I have spent hours experimenting, and absolutely nothing I do seems to solve this problem.
I am totally stumped as to why photos that I once could copy onto my iPod now are deemed undisplayable. I feel terribly disappointed as my iPod now seems crippled and does not perform a function that was a main consideration in buying one in the first place.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry everyone. I just realised that photos are discussed in a the iPod forum and this topic is being covered there. So please ignore this post.

  • Known disk-mounting fault on iPod Video 80GB?

Is there a known disk mounting fault with the iPod Video 80GB?
I’m running iTunes Version 7.0.1.8 and have so far had two brand new 80GB iPod Video devices, purchased from a registered New Zealand reseller (TotallyMac.com).
Both iPods have successfully loaded my music library and have played perfectly, both on headphones and on my iPod hi-fi. However, when I subsequently plug the iPod into any of the USB 2 ports on my laptop, the iPod does not show up as a device in My Computer, File Explorer or in iTunes.
I’m running Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
The problem also occurs on a second PC – the iPod refuses to show as a device in My Computer, Windows File Explorer or in iTunes. However, it does show up in Device Manager, and the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ icon shows on the Windows status bar when the iPod is connected. Even so, when the iPod is safely ejected, the iPod screen continues to show ‘Do Not Disconnect’, so the only way to safely eject the iPod is to reset it on the iPod.
I’ve tried restarting the computer, putting the iPod into disk mode and so on. Unfortunately, none of the advice on the Apple website for iPods that refuse to mount helps me – because I can’t get the iPod to appear as a device anywhere on my computer, I can’t rename the Drive Volume (to another letter instead of ‘E:’) or restore the iPod to factory settings.
I can’t help thinking that Apple has created a ‘Catch 22’ situation by removing the iPod Updater option in iTunes 7 – none of the previous versions of iPod Updater is compatible with iTunes 7, meaning it’s impossible for people who have a Disk Mount problem to restore their iPods. If you can’t get the iPod to show up in iTunes, how are you supposed to restore the device or solve disk mounting problems?
There appears to be no other way to restore the device if you’re using iTunes 7.
Why isn’t there a ‘restore’ option in the iPod’s own diagnostics menu, some combination of click-wheel buttons that will allow you to reformat/restore the drive?
My previous (40GB) Fourth-Generation iPod mounts perfectly on both this laptop and another PC, suggesting it is the new iPods that are the problem. Also, as I said, the new iPod fails to mount on the second PC, supporting this theory.
Both faulty iPods have been set to ‘manually update’ and I also ticked the ‘Enable Disk Use’ option and removed the checkmark from ‘Automatically open iTunes’.
It would be good to hear from someone else who has experienced similar difficulties, as I’m by no means a new iPod user and this has both me and the Apple service technicians I’ve spoken to completely stumped. Is it a known problem and, if so, will it be dealt with in future iTunes updates…?

Try forcing the iPod into disk mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
And then see if you can change the Volume Drive Letter:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
If nothing else works, you may want to give this a shot:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Since you did say the iPod continues to show Do Not Disconnect after ejecting it, I'm thinking maybe there's something on your computer that's interfering with the iPod.
Also, when the iPod comes up in Device Manager, does it have any kind of warning on it? You may need to uninstall the iPod's drivers, and then restart the computer with the iPod attached to reinstall it. This may not be the case, though, since the iPod is still showing Do Not Disconnect while it's plugged in.
You may also want to make sure you have the iPod connected to a USB port directly on the rear of the computer, or try a different USB cable.
Also, you might want to try restarting the iPodService

  • Ipod Video 80gb with click wheel has sound, but no audio

My ipod video 80gb with click wheel has sound, but no audio.  I can hear the clicking of the wheel and selections made through the headphones, but I cannot get music, video, etc. to play audio.  I did the 5 R's and installed a new headphone jack prior to posting here.  I am all out of ideas and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you connect it to an iPod Dock Stereo to check if there is music, coming out, if not the Hard Reset would solve your problem or else the Audio chip has called it a day.
I know you mentioned doing the 5Rs, but did you see the Apple Logo and the language prompt? Sorry, most of the users here, doesn't do the Hard Reset correctly.
Try the iPod Hard Reset -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then release the button
    Select your preferred language.
This wont delete or erase any song/data on your iPod Classic.
See this Apple Support Article on 5Rs

  • Ipod video 80GB question

hi every body, i'm new to ipod and i have the ipod video 80gb. i have also macbook pro as i had recintly transfer to apple and i love even though there are a minor problem that i had with the battery before and magsafe now, any way.
i want to know if i can sync the ipod one way as 80gb ipod it is impossible to have 80 gb data on my macbook pro hard disk so i want to upload and delete the files after that and next time i connect i just upload the new items without deleting the items i removed from my itunes, any way?
another thing, i bought the nike+ sensor to use it with ipod video but it seems that it works only with ipod nano, any way to make it work with video.
    thanks in advance and enjoy.

You can keep your music on your ipod and not your computer, but you have a high chance of getting it deleted. Set your ipod to manual update, so the songs wont get erased. But if you dont eject your ipod, or jsut something happens, you wont be able to get your music back.
If you ever need to get the songs from you ipod to computer, use iPodCopy
    Good Luck

  • IPod Video 80GB shows "Low Battery, Please Wait" but when plugged into wall, works fine.

I have an iPod Video 80GB and it worked perfectly fine until now....when it is plugged into my computer (all ports attempted), it shows "Low Battery, Please Wait" and then when I plug it into the wall, it reboots, shows the normal silver apple, and everything is all fine. The iPod is dependent off of a power source, as it cannot function right now without one.

That's usually a good indication that the iPod's battery is shot an in need of a replacement especially considering it's from an iPod Video, which have been out for a number of years now.  You can pay Apple to have it replaced or you can send it in to a third party repair center for a bit less.

My 30gb did the same thing but after playing with it all day I did as you suggested and it seems to be back to normal. Thank you. Verry, verry, verry much!!!!
Do you have any idea what caused this problem? It was working fine the last time I had it on but then it didn't.

  • Movies and TV Shows will not sync with iPod Video 80gb -

    Okay, here is the problem:
I have an iPod Video. Previously, I have had roughly 20 movies that I ripped from my OWN DVD's to mp4 format. They all played fine and synced fine with my iPod.
Then I updated my iTunes version to 7, and now I cannot get the Movies or TV shows to sync to my iPod. I get no error message. I cannot get them to sync manually or automatically. I spoke to tech support and they refused to help me because they only offer sync support for content purchased from iTunes. Of course, when I told them that I had purchased several TV shows from iTunes, they told me to send an email to the iTunes store and have them let me re-download the tv shows??
What is going on here? It worked fine before? Same iPod, same computer? The movies are either mp4 format or h.264?
    Help!

I'm having extremely similar problems with my ipod right now
The only differences are: I have a 30gb and I already have movies on my ipod, it just won't let me add anything new to it!
I have about 12gb of free space left (the movie I want to add isn't that big)
I can manage (add/delete) songs and photos on it, it's just not letting me do anything with my movies! It keeps saying this whenever I try to copy my movie to it "[movie name] was not copied to ipod because it can't be played on this ipod." Which is total BS because there are already about 34 movies/music videos on it!
    Help!!
Oh, ps, it's not letting me put album artwork on there anymore either... due to error code -50 (which I have NOT been able to find any help articles on!)

  • Converting TV shows for iPod Video - Please help!

I have been trying all week to get one single tv show on my iPod, but I have had no success. I have been using Quicktime Pro with the iPod video export settings which takes forever, but every time the video is finished, it plays in iTunes with no sound. I have called tech support several times and they offered advice like, "Try using Divx to convert it into a .mov," but it never works. The types of files I am trying to convert are mpeg1 & 2, and .avi (downloaded files from p2p) but like I said, no success. If anyone can offer some straightforward advice about other programs to use, or what I may be doing wrong, it would be extremely helpful. I am using a brand new iBook G4. I understand you can use Handbrake to convert DVD's, but most of my files are tv shows, and would like to have some Simpsons or Family Guy in my iPod. Currently, I am waiting for Quicktime to convert three more mpeg files into the iPod format, and if it doesn't work, I will stop trying completely and stick to only movies, I guess. Oh, by the way, I have tried using iMovie to import files and it also experiences the same issues as Quicktime after it is added - no sound! Thanks again guys, I really appreciate your responses.

QuickTime Pro will not transcode any form of muxed MPEG file correctly on its own.
Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($14.99) will convert MPEG1 but not sure about MPEG2 and M2/AC3 VOBs.
MPEG2QT ($15) and MPEG2 Works 4 ($25) will convert MPEG1/2 and M2/AC3 VOBs. With regard to AVI files there are more than one type. If QT Pro won't handle them then you need to check DivX and/or 3ivX modules. However, as far as I know, DivX are still trying get their QT 7 component to work with DivX v5.x and the v6 has yet to be released.
Tried PSPWare v2.1.4 in free, unregistered mode and it converted MPEG1 files without a problem. But all of my other, more common test file types failed to convert.
Also tried MPEG StreamClip (free) which some users claimed worked fine. It kept cutting off the audio before reaching the end of the video in the target files (w/MPEG4 settings).

  • IPod video/audio help

I would like to know why my iPod video doesn't have any audio when I play videos. I use the itunes converter to transfer the video but the audio just doesnt work. Can someone help me please and let me know how do deal with the problem?

The language and subtiles have to be changed to match the video you are downloading. I use IVideoToGo and it has that option under properties. You have to change the language to "English" and the Subtitles to "English" or whatever language is indicated on the case of the movie. You have to do it for each movie manually because it is defaulted to "none".

  • Music fails to copy to iPod Video - Urgent help needed!

Recently i done a stupid thing with my iPod, i done a defrag on it using windows utility. Though i have done it before, no problems. I have though just been told that its a bad thing to do.
After that, itunes did not recognise my ipod (iPod Video), i then restored it using V1.11 firmware, then went onto iTunes to upload all my music, it goes so far (say the first 300 out of 4550 or a number below 300) then stays on random track, then the iPod disconnects. Since then i have used previous versions of the firmware (1.0, 1.1), still does the same thing.
Can anyone help, cause i now live in spain (europe), since moved from scotland. It would be a pain to send it back if its not bust.
Oh yea, my music is all stored on a external western digital HD, connection is a 2.0 USB. Had it for 6 months or so and had no problems with it so far.

Generation 1 vs generation 2 has zero impact on using Enhanced Session Mode to copy files in and out.
Under the hood, Enhanced Session Mode uses RDP.  So, the RDP stars must align for the file copy to work.  This can be impacted by group policy, improper RDP settings, the VM not being Windows 8.1 or Server 2012 R2 or higher.

    Learn. Apply. Repeat.
    no settings in group policy.
    all other things were identical.
i removed that VM & created new one, since there was no solution to that. maybe a bug.
    thank you anyway

  • Ipod video 80gb

i had just purchased an ipod video for my brother who is currently out of the country, he does not have internet access where he is and i wondering if i put videos on his ipod for him, will the ipod still work on his laptop and work with his itunes? because i have had the problem before when i got songs from someone elses computer and when i plugged the ipod (nano) back into my own computer all the songs got erased, let me know! thanks

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you just drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. "Don't" uncheck Sync Music in the Music tab, it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting, if you uncheck it without setting the iPod to manual first you'll erase all the songs from your iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • IPod Video (80GB) display/working issues

My 80GB Video iPod that cost me almost $400 about 5 years ago just started having display issues where the screen's all black or dark, it no longer shows any playlist or options, all I can get out of it is that when I attempt to do that fix (shift Hold switch back and forth a few times, then press and hold both the center circle and the Menu button at the same time for 10 seconds, and repeat until the Apple logo shows up) that usually did the trick in the past, but this time the Apple logo is only very very dark, for the first time ever, and even flickers between that and just showing nothing. No matter how many times I repeat the fix I can't seem to cure it.

You either have a failing back light or, more likely after 5 years, the battery is failing on your iPod. You can send it to Apple for a new one, buy one and do it yourself or send it to a 3rd party for a new battery. Here are a few relevant sites:

  • Ipod video volume help!

when I convert videos the volume stops working
is it because these arnt bought from itunes store?
    help!
    xxx

No, it's probably because they are "muxed".
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).
