Ipod video? a workflow involving windoze and mac?

hi,
i need to create 25 small 'ipod format' videos.
i'm using fcp 4.5.
i can get the files exported (qt converstion - ipod steps) and they work on my mac, but not my windoze machine? ultimately, i need these to work on either computer.
when i drag them over my network from my mac to my peecee, the files are not recognized by any program. when i try to open via quicktime (ver 7.1), it says the file isn't a valid movie file.
any thoughts?
Cheers,
Keebler

Hi Bogie-San,
Ok..here's the dilly:
the kenstone link worked perfectly...sort of.
The videos did encode (took almost 8 hours to do 1 hr 10 minutes of various small clips on a dual 2.0 g5 with 3.5 GB RAM..doh!).
They work on my mac. i drag them to my PC, which has the latest quicktime ver 7.1 and they don't work.
the file type in winxp says 'file'...that's it. won't play in itunes or with quicktime. the file extension on my mac is an mpeg-4. i also tried with winmedia player, but of course that didn't work.
i was under the impression that if the new windoze version of quicktime would play h.264 files.
i'm going to run a test of a non-h.264 and see if that works.
Cheers,
Keebler

  • IPod Video shows a sad face and does not appear on my laptop?

    Hi,
So basically I have had my 30GB ipod video (5th gen) for quite a few years and have never really had any problems with it till now (aside from a slightly faulty backlight).
The other day I tried to turn it on, only to find that the screen alternated between the "sad ipod face" icon and the "please wait, very low battery" icon, despite being plugged in to my usual wall charger. After leaving it a while and messing with the buttons, attempting to reset it and such likes, it came up with a message telling me to connect it to itunes to restore, which I did. However, neither my computer nor my itunes would recognise the ipod and it came up with the low battery screen more frequently.
I left it plugged in to my wall charger in the hope it would charge and after trying a couple of times it worked, I tried using the 5 r's as far as possible though, not very succesfully as i could not access the ipod through the computer. I also tried following the instructions on some other sites, though once again to no avail.
After having carried it around in my bag for the past couple days, with some more attempts to fix it I decided to have another proper look on the internet and managed to get it into diagnostic mode and then put it onto Manual Test mode >IO > Hard Drive > HD SMART Data, however when I do this it comes up with a message saying "SMART not supported" What does this mean? I also tried the auto test and as far as I am aware it seemed okay, though I am not really sure and I couldn't complete the test as i haven't got a firewire cable.
Is there any hope for the harddrive or do you think it is time for a new ipod?... should I try taking it apart, considering I have no experience?....
Any ideas on how to fix it would really be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Naomi

I tried this before, but I just got it to come up with the connect to itunes to restore message again and i connected it  to my laptop and got an image of a circle with a line through it, a message saying do not disconnect  and the battery charging icon in the top left (though it looks different to normal).  However my laptop still would not recognise it and went back to the sad ipod face after about 5mins.
Also I dont really live anywhere near an apple store and can't really afford to send it off anyway, it would probably end up cheaper to get a new one. Thanks a lot for your help! Any other ideas would really be appreciated, however unusual....
    Thyanks Again!

  • Ipod Video 30Gb no sound music and video

Since two days I have a strange problem on my Ipod Video 30Gb.
On the display it seems that the tracks are playing or that the video is playing. But when I listen through the headphones I hear nothing. Even when I connect the Ipod to a dock or a dockspeaker nothing happens. I allready tried to reset the Ipod and I even installed it's software again but nothing helps.
The last thing I did before the problem occured was that I have upgraded my Itunes to version 8.0.0.35.
Please give me some suggestions how to fix this problem.

  • My ipod Video won't switch on and always displays the message, "Please Wait Very Little Battery" despite being plugged into the charger.

    Dear Apple Support Communities,
I am writing to inform you I have had my iPod for about 6 years now and it has slowly got to the stage where it no longer turns on. My iPod began freezing every now and then (for a few seconds now) and then this problem escalated to the stage where it began to freeze for days. I am now at the stage where it doesn't switch on at all, in fact everytime I try to switch on my iPod the following message appears on the screen, 'Please Wait, Very Little Battery' despite the fact that the iPod is currently being charged. I haven't used my iPod for months and was wondering if this promblem can be fixed or am I entitled to any upgrades.

Did you try to let it connected to USB for charging for a while before asking it anything. When the battery is deeply drained, it can occur that the iPod displays nothing for half an hour, just charging.
Also, make sure your PC gives sufficient power to the iPod for charging, I let mine once for six hours charging on my work's pc, and it didn't display "charged" message even after the 6H charge.
When an USB device is requiring more power than it can receive from the plug it is in, MacOSX advices it to user, It seems that Windows doesn't.

  • TS1363 Updated to iTunes to latest version 11.1.4.62 on my Windows 8 machine.  iTunes no longer recognizes my 5th Gen Ipod.  It does however recognize my 80gb Ipod Video.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes as directed (twice) & rebooted pc. no luck.

I just updated iTunes to the 11.1.4.62 (as the pop up directed me to) on my Windows 8 machine. As a result iTunes will no longer recognize my 5th generation Ipod Nano (yes two).   I receive a pop up saying "Ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly"   I've followed the recommendations seveal times: a) disconnected and reconnected. b) rebooted computer c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes d) tried different cables e) tried different USB porst f) rebooted Ipod.... the window keeps popping up like a middle finger (you get the point)
iTUnes WILL however,  recognize my 4th gen Nano and my 80gb Video (classic) without problem
Needless to say, I'm frustrated and ticked off over all of this wasted time.
    Anyone solved this issue yet?
    Any good suggestions?
    Please advise
    Kindest regards,

    c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • Can i use my ipod as hard-drive with pc and mac??

    hi
ive been using new classic ipod with pc for a while.
now i have a new macbook.
can i use the ipod as a hard drive to transfer files to macbook??
like say if i download some software onto pc, i put that onto ipod,
and then transfer to macbook via ipod hard drive........
    is this ok?
can i use my ipod on macbook and pc? or is it just one of the other?
    thanks
(transfering my pc itunes library to macbook is not urgent yet....but would it be as easy as just copying the song files across? something like itornado usb wire....)

*can i use the ipod as a hard drive to transfer files to macbook??*
Macs can read Windows formatting so if your iPod was first used and formatted on a PC you should have no issue with using it as a removable hard drive on the Mac: How to determine your iPod's disk format
Just for reference, iPods formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed.

  • Will iPods play friendly with PC's AND Macs?

I just got a new Mac and a new iPod. One of the reasons I got the iPod was to use it as a hard drive, but I love to listen to iTunes on my Mac.
I want to be able to transfer data between PC's and my Mac. If I am correct I can format my iPod on the PC and it will still be able to be read on the Mac, but will it still update the music on the Mac?

    Jonathan,
You are correct. If it is formatted for use with a PC, it will still work fine with a mac. Only if it is formatted for a mac will it not work with windows without additional software

  • IPod shuffle - synch between Windows PC and Mac G3

    Hi there!
I started my iPod account on a pc and I have a whole library on there.I would sign in with my hotmail account. I have recently changed to a Mac G3 and I can't access my library on it. I have now created an Apple login.
My question is how can I "import" my itunes library to the Mac?

Choose Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu or the Library section of the File menu in iTunes, find the iTunes library location from the iTunes preferences, and move the folder to the new computer using any method necessary, such as an external drive, optical disks, or a network connection.

  • Sync iPod Touch with PC at home and Mac at work?

So I'm getting a free iPod Touch from work (Yay!). Is it possible to sync the calendar and contacts with Outlook (or another program) on my home PC, and also with iCal and Address Book on my Mac at work?

This hasn't been my experience actually. I can plug in my iPod Touch to my home Mac, and sync the calendars there, then I can plug into my work PC and sync my work calendar. The only thing I'm having trouble with, is that Outlook on my PC will not merge the other calendars, so if I enter a personal appoitnment on my home Mac, it will show up in a separate calendar on my iPod Touch, and not at all on Outlook on my PC... Not ideal, but at least my iPod Touch seems to have everything on it.

  • Internet video to play on pc and mac

What is the best way to compress a fcp file to stream on both macs and pcs. I'm putting it on my dot.mac website for examples.

    Hi,
Providing the user have installed QT7.x H.264 is a great codec, far superior than MPEG4, which would work on both platforms.
    G.

  • What is the most popular Video format for pc's and Mac's to just play

I made a video that had some shots in HD using my Canon HG10 and some shot were regular NTSC. I made a final quicktime output, and gave it to my client. It plays the sound but not the video. So I condensed the video to a smaller format NTSC w/ 16:9 aspect ratio, and no she says the quality is almost not playable. Everything plays and works fine, even the same files that I give to her. She also wants to be able to play the video in loops. What is the best program for a PC to do that?
    Thank you

Try exporting in Uncompressed 8 bit or Animation. Also save the file in the Quicktime Player to play in High Quality. If you export in NTSC/DV, quicktime will play a low quality version by default. Go to Window > Show Movie Properties > Video Track > Visual Settings, and check the High Quality checkbox and save the file.
I wouldn't recommend H.264. It's a lossy codec for mobile devices and the web.

  • I have a iPod video/black 80Gb 5th generation and my battery never lasts more than 30 mintues or less.

Is this a matter of getting a new battery, maybe a service? Or something more technical?
I've charged the unit for hours although it always shows fully charged symbol within an 1 hour.
It functions fine when plugged in, updated and synced.
Only real problem is it turns of in 30 minutes or less with only the very low battery fading into the screen.
    Any help/advice happily accepted

Yes.  It sounds like the iPod's battery is on its last leg.  If you want to keep using your iPod you'll want to have the battery replaced either by Apple, a third party company, or you can even buy the replacement part and swap it out yourself.
If you want to go through Apple's site, see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod

  • IPod Video will Randomly turn on and play a certain playlist

My iPod will randomly turn on and play a certain playlist I have. It will also do it in the middle of other playlist or when I'm just playing music. It is always the same playlist and there is no pattern as to when it will do this. Any ideas?

    Turn off the alarm.
