IPod Video - Adding Video Troubles

First of all, let me state that I have searched and searched through the FAQ's, and have not found one bit of information that can help.
I bought my iPod Video two days ago and had problems with it right away. I bought this for the video capability, and I've yet to figure it out. I cannot add my videos to it. I have succeeded in getting 4 on, but all of them have no sound, and I dont know how to fix it. I've been toiling with this for many an hour, and nothing I do works. I have tried:
-Converting using a different program (videora)
-Converting in iTunes
-Syncing form iTunes (many diferent ways)
Nothing has worked, and I'm very frustrated. It seems every answer involves buying a mac or buying Quicktime pro, which I dont' want to (or can't) do.

I know many people have asked this question before, but I still havnt been able to find a straight answer. That link you gave me also invovles buying the software, and if you dont it leaves a "nag mark" across the middle of the screen and says in big letters "Trial Version", which makes it impossible to watch.
I'm just saying Ive already spent enough money on the ipod and the case, and there has to be a way to convert the file without buying something else.

  • IPOD Videos - Adding videos without wiping out all data

I am sure a few of you have run into this problem. Your computer hard drive is too small to hold all the music and videos to fill up your IPOD. I have run out of space. How can I continue to load videos from this point on without deleting any of the current data on my IPOD. Any assistance would be appreciated. thanks

You can delete songs/videos from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the songs manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music/videos would be erased. If you no longer have the music/videos in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost.

  • HT5065 Trouble adding video .M4V to iBooks

Is anyone having trouble with adding video to iBooks? I exported the files as the instructions said but it is still not working.

    What does that mean?
Does iBA say the file format isn't allowed?
Can you add it ok but it won't play at all?

  • Adding videos to the proper playlists?

This is probably a question that has already been asked and answered, but I've been having trouble finding the answer.
I have successfully added Video Podcasts to my iPod and they show up fine, play, etc.
My question is how do I get them to show up under the Video Podcasts library on the iPod? Right now, they are in the Video Playlists in a playlist I called Video Podcasts.
I haven't had a chance to change over any movies or tv shows yet to see if there would be the same problems.
I've checked in the settings in iTunes, but the options only let me change the video kind to Music Video, Movie, TV Show.
The genre on these videos say podcast.
Does anyone have a clue as to what Im doing wrong here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Okay.
Do you have room on the other partition for everything?
Do this to move it to the other partition.
    1 - Quit iTunes.
2 - Move the entire iTunes folder to where you want.
3 - Restat iTunes while holding Shift (Windows) or Option (Mac).
4 - iTunes will ask to Create new library or Choose existing library. Select Choose existing library and select the iTunes library where you moved the iTunes folder.
Drag the old iTunes folder to the trash but do NOT empty it yet.
Restart iTunes and make sure it works. If so, empty the trash.

  • Videos and video Podcasts won't sync anymore to iPod

I have a 5th generation 30G Video iPod and used to have all the same videos and video Podcasts playing just fine on my iPod. I reinstalled Mac OS X on my Macbook and added all the videos and videoPodcasts back to my iTunes library and while they play in iTunes just fine they don't sync to iPod anymore... The error message says:
'Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including video "..." were not copied to the iPod " X " because they cannot be played on this iPod.'
And as said - in the past these same videos and video podcasts were playing just fine on this very same iPod... Can anyone help?
All the audio library is being synced and plays perfectly well on iPod. And games too.

Andrew, have you tried re-installing QuickTime? That might fix it. Download it from Apple:

  • Do the new iPod Touches shoot video and take pictures?

Do the new iPod Touches shoot video and take pictures?
The new Nanos shoot video. You'd think the Touch would.
I spent maybe 20 minutes reading Apple info pages, an iPod comparison page, and even quickly searched the User Guide, but saw nothing about shooting video anywhere.
Sure, it talked about video, but it wasn't clear to me if that was only for playback.
I guess I am missing it, or else it doesn't do it, which would be strange.
If it does, where is this info on the Apple Web site? That is, links to both video and photo shooting?
    Thanks!
    S.

    not yet....
most people expected a camera to be added to the iPod touch, but that announcement didn't arrive.

  • 80gb ipod not syncing video

I have all the boxes checked, i have 60gb of free space, music is syncing fine, but when i click sync to try to sync the three tv episodes i bought off the itunes store, it ;syncs but the shows aren't added. video podcasts are syncing, so i guess the problem is just that the tv shows aren't syncing

    Hello Tedlocks,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If these videos are TV Shows, and their *Media Type* is set to "TV Show", then you will have to configure your iPod to sync TV Shows from under the *TV Shows* tab for your iPod in iTunes.
More information on syncing TV Shows can be found under # 6 from this Apple support document.

Ever since i upgraded to the latest version of itunes I started encountering problems/difficulties in adding videos in itunes library. All the videos that I'm trying to upload are in the correct file format (mpeg4/mp4). I tried adding using Add File to Library, Add Folder to library and even Import..nothing happens..no prompt that its uploading. In the end can't add any video.
I tried doing this using my PC and my laptop and i still encounter the same problem so I can say that th problem is not on my computers.

  • Playing manually added Video Podcasts?

I have a 5th Gen (60GB) and I update some podcasts manually and other automatically.
When I manually add a Video Podcast to my iPod, it does not add to the Videos>Video Podcasts directory, nor to the music directory. I've managed to get around this issue by creating a podcast playlist which finds the video and allows access through Video>Video Playlists>
Is there another, more reasonable option?
P.S. I assume my issues are related to my desire to automatically sync some podcasts and add others manually (an option "available" in the iPod Preferences, right?) and my solution may ultimately be to do everything automatically or manually, but I'd rather not.
Thanks in advance for all replies!

I have exactly the same problem with a 5th Gen 30GB. The onlyu way to view manually-added video podcasts seems to be the way you suggest: to create a playlist. It's the same for audio podcasts, incidentally.

  • Ipod 5th gen, video 30bg, will sync/restore, won't play

I am running Windows 7, with all updates (as of 3/14/2014) have itunes 11.1.5.5 showing no available updates. When I plug into the USB port, the ipod gets recognized, Itunes starts. I can see the files on the ipod. I have reset the ipod and restored. Same problem. When I drill down to the actual file I want to listen to, it doesn't play. On the screen the icon changes from pause to the arrow for play, the index line never advances. You can hit the select button, use the scroll wheel to advance through the file, and hit play again, but no noise. There isn't noise if in the dock (which other ipods and iphones work with in the house) there is no noise if the headphones are plugged in. i was thinking harddrive, so I replaced it. couldn't get the new one to function. When the new harddrive was in the unhappy face would come up. I could force into disk mode, in hopes of restoring it, but in disk mode, neither windows and hence itunes would recognize it as an ipod. I put the old hard drive back in thinking maybe I damaged the cable, but it came right up, but with the same problem, it won't play the sounds... I replaced the Zif cable just in case, still the same...
i've sure seen lots of Ipod 5th gen video for sale on Ebay, compared to the 4th that I had, which I broke the scroll wheel cable on, but never had such problems with it. Any thoughts out there from someone who might know what it's doing? It seems weird that it loads the music files, and deletes the music files but won't play them. The only other thing I can think of perhaps is the battery too low to spin the hard drive up to play? It does seem to be a very small (physically) battery compared to the 4th gen... but it is thicker...
When I got it it was doing the low power thing, so I did all the steps to re-charge, and restore, but it won't play the files... Thanks for any thoughts!
    Jesse

It sound like you did some good troubleshooting.  Thanks for providing the details.  I don't think a problem like this is related to the battery.
With a 5th gen iPod (early version) that has a 30GB hard drive, it may have problems using a larger capacity hard drive.  That may explain the different problem you had when you replaced the hard drive, if you changed the capacity.
Try the following test.  Do another Restore from the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  At the end of the Restore process, choose NOT to sync anything automatically.
Go to the iTunes Store and download a free song.  You can find the current free songs by clicking Free on iTunes under QUICK LINKS, on the iTunes Store Home screen.
Manually load that ONE song on the iPod.  Disconnect iPod and try to play that one song.  Does this same problem occur?

  • 3rd generation iPod Touch and Video Out - "whoops!!!"

Before I jump to any conclusions about Apple, here is my experience with the Video out operation of my brand new 3rd generation 64 GB iPod Touch. This is my third iPod and about a year ago I decided (at great personal expense) to purchase the Apple Composite AV Cable (despite the fact that you can buy copies of the cable on eBay for 1/10th the price). When I plugged this cable into my new iPod touch, the Video Out option was greyed out. I tried lots of different things but eventually gave up and went to the Apple Store to see what it said about compatability. Sure enough, the 3rd Generation Touch is the ONLY iPod, iPhone etc not mentioned. I call my friendly apple support person who says "*of course it will work, I am 100% sure*". I then jokingly asked if he would give me $1000 if he was wrong and begrudgingly he put me on hold "just to check". 15 minutes later (unusual for Apple) he came back to me saying that *I "might" be right but he was 100% sure that if I connected my cable via a Universal Dock it would work.*
Now, before I go out and spend any more money on a Universal Dock, has anybody tried this? Why would apple make the change ONLY to the 3rd Gen iPod touch?
I have noticed that there is one nasty non-apple cable on the market that claims it will work BUT it doesn't have the ability to charge...... besides I ONLY buy legit Apple products.
    Any comments?

Wow Apple pulled tha last post almost as quick as it was written.
I have been in the IT industry for 18 years, when I started out I read the Mac bible and got a job supporting 1000 macs (remember the wonderful days of the symbol of the little bomb and all you could do is re-install the OS - what a joke). We ditched the Mac due to limited application support (nothing has changed much has it). I did not look at another apple product for 15 years, got a Touch for free ( CC points) Firmware 2.2, loved the little bugger, had a whole new respect for Apple. Happily got 2 cables from eBay for $5.00 for both, video to the tv, charging, audio, best of all worlds. Then, I upgrade to version 3.01 for $5.00, what a deal, copy paste, etc. till I plug in my cables and nothing works anymore. Take it to the car for my FM receiver,. only mono now. Oh sorry you now have to dish out $50.00 for our cables (the /B version not the /A cause we even screwed our customers that bought our own cables) and oh ya you can only buy over priced FM receiver products that pay bloated license fees to Apple. Then we come to your story, you buy "Only Apple products" which do not work (check for the /A model of the cable, you need the /B (/B= Buy again?? Maybe) and then the support guy tells your to go out and spend yet another $50.00 on a universal dock and you are asking if you should do it. Sure spend another $50.00 for the chip enabled dock, it will work, hmm, I think I have put together a pc for less than $100.00

  • Can't restore iPod classic 60GB video.  Cannot Allocate Memory - Disk Utility

Sorry if this has been asked before but I've been searching the boards and am yet to find a result.
I have an old iPod classic 60GB (video) which has a dodgy HDD.  It was clicking and in a constant sad face/charging loop.  I've managed to get it display "Please restore iPod" message and it is now being recognised by my macbook.  I've tried to restore it via iTunes but when I try that I get an error message tht says "The iPod could not be restores because it is busy".
I've tried toformat the iPod using Disk Utility too but i get an error:
Disk Erase failed with the error:
POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Cannot allocate memory
The oddest thing is that under disk utility my iPod drive is showing up as a 2TB drive:
All I'm realy trying to do is restore the iPod so I can try to recover some of the tracks using Disk Drill.  Can anybody help?

See if you can find a window based PC and try to do a Restore there.
