Ipod Video and External Battery Question

If I am not in the correct forum, tell me. I got the 30 Gig Ipod Video. I am curious about an external battery pack that uses AA batteries to extend the battery life of the Ipod Video. I saw the Belkin but many said they had an overheating problem when using that one. I assume it must be designed for 5th gen. I had one for my mini and it worked great. My assumption is that the one that worked on the mini will not work on the Ipod Video. Any suggestions for one that works well???
Ipod Video 30 gig   Windows XP

I keep all my videos on an external hardrive (to save space on my computer's hardrive) and now that I want to transfer my videos to the video iPod, I don't know how to do it without copying the videos to the computer's. Same goes for buying videos on iTunes. Can someone help me with this, please?
One possibility is to simply let iTunes use the external drive as its primary storage device. (I.e., store your "Music" folder externally on the external HD.) To do this, go to the "Advanced" Preference tab and reset the storage location. (Not sure if current material will automatically be copied to the new location or if you have to do this manually.) Would assume you can then use the expanded storage area for iPod compatible files, archive "master" material to CD/DVD, and delete unwanted masters from the HD. If you are using the auto-sync mode, you can then use the active "Library" to control what is sync'd. Further, you can then delete material from the "library" but elect to leave the file(s) stored in the "Music" folder rather than "trashing" them (i.e., keep them stored on the external drive as sort of an "archive") if/when you no longer want it sync'd to your iPod and restore it later to iTunes when/if needed again.

  • Using iPOD video and Nano on one PC

Need help. I just got a 60 gb iPOD video and have been using iTunes on my PC for my Nano. If I download videos from the iTunes Music Store for my iPOD Video, will it cause a problem when I later plug in my Nano to update? I.E., is there a way for me to use my same iTunes library for both the iPOD Video and iPOD Nano without the Nano crashing because of the video content? Sorry, I'm new to this. I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library and in the case of the Nano you will not have a problem with videos as it is not designed to use them. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually. With the first option it will update everything. With the second option only the tracks in the selected playlists (rather than the entire music library) are downloaded to iPod when you connect. With the manual update option, you manage what goes into your iPod by dragging and dropping selected songs or playlists into iPod:

I have an ipod video, and i want to get an ipod shuffle, but do not know if that will cause some type of confusion with itunes. I tried hooking up my girlfriend's ipod to my laptop and I couldn't drag any songs to her ipod. Will I have this same issue with the shuffle?

    - Do you have to right boxes checked in the Tones pane of iTunes for the iPod to get them synced to the iPod:
    - Were the tones purchased with the same account as all the other media on the iPod?

  • Trouble with a new iPod video (and a question)

My new iPod video is causing my computer to freeze when I connect it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. After that, it seemed to be going OK, but it only downloaded about 500m (of a total of 50g) before iTunes froze again and stopped downloading (of course the "Do Not Disconnect" icon on the iPod stayed there, but I had no choice but to disconnect it!).
All of my music is on an external Seagate hard drive coming in through one of my USB inputs. The iPod is on the other USB input. Could this be part of the problem? I don't think it's a drive letter issue since it did start downloading the last time before freezing.
Also, I'm wondering if I can use my old firewire cable from my previous iPod to speed up the transfer process once I actually get the thing working.
Any help would be much appreciated!

  • IPod syncing and backing up question!

I just recently had to re-do my operating system with the recovery disk of my Windows XP laptop and had to wipe out everything and start fresh on the hard drive.
I have everything on my iPod touch that has not been synced or backed up as all of that was gone like I said when I had to re-do my operating system on my Windows XP laptop which brought it back to day 1 and all of the previously synced and backed up data that was stored in iTunes on my laptop was wiped out as well.
I don't want to lose what all I have on my iPod touch because I know that if I try to sync and backup my iPod touch it will think it's another computer and lose and wipe out everything that I have on my iPod touch as this has happened to me before in the past and it was all gone for good at that point.
My question is this, how do I sync and backup my iPod touch on the same laptop that I used in the beginning when my iPod touch was brand new after I synced and backed up for the 1st time so that I won't lose everything on my iPod touch again so that it will recognize the same laptop I used in the beginning in iTunes?

OK, these are good steps to follow for the purchases.
What are the instructions for doing it for my Apps, Contacts, Websites I've saved on the iPod, Photos, Videos, Calendar, Notes, Messages, and Bookmarks so my laptop won't cause the iPod to delete any of these on me like the last time being that it thinks that it's a brand new iPod Touch and doesn't recognize it at all?
Bear in mind still that I had to re-do my operating system for my Windows XP laptop from the recovery disk which brought it all back to day 1 from scratch. When I did this in the past and plugged in my iPod Touch to the laptop, it deleted and wiped out everything from the iPod Touch and had to start over. I don't want this to happen again.

  • Ipod Video and USB 2.0 with not enough power

    Hi all,
Ok, post number 2 for me. I have noticed another thing in the Ipod Video 30 gig that really has me wondering what is going on. I tested this out in various systems, being the analytical sort, and it seems to be that case. As long as there is enough power in the USB port to accomodate the Ipod, things are fine. Life is good.
But if there is not, even if you are compatible, in Windows, then things will be bad. First of all, your Ipod will freeze. That is bad. The second thing is that your Ipod will not come up as an Ipod in Windows, but will be a generic USD device drive. pretty awful.
So you have to reset the Ipod, and make sure that your USB port has enough power dedicated to it for the Ipod to be plugged into it. How much power is this baby sucking up anyways? On my machine at work, if I plug it in, and it only has a keyboard and mouse on it, it will not work. What is that?
    Any help is much appreciated:>
    Thanks
    Grubster

You may have noticed that as a Windows user you get little to no response in this forum to questions. Wrong side of the tracks you know.
Anyway, I have found the same issues. I surmise that the real issue is that IPods are designed to be used with a MAC. There are of course literally tens of millions of Windows users out there so Apple was obliged for business reasons to accomodate them. The power issue is just one of the many problems Windows users have. Most non-hub and non-keyboard USBs will have enough power. Not all but most.
Keep in mind that I think MACs ROCK!! I would have had one if they were compatable with the machines already in my office. The IPod it great. The issues can be worked around.

  • Ipod Video and Alpine CDE-9852 Problem.

I'm having problems with my new Alpine CDE-9852, and my black 60 gig ipod Video (1.11 software verison).
When I first pluged in my Ipod to the unit I got Error 01, my first thought was that I needed to install software on the ipod, but from reading the owners manual I didn't see anything about that.
With the car still running I unpluged the Ipod and pluged it back in, it worked. I Went though the menu's, played all kindas of songs, no problems.
When I got home I thought I would play with it a bit, because it takes forever to go throw all my songs.
Then it just stoped working, getting Error 01, sometimes it would connect and get the check mark, but you couldn't control the Ipod, sometimes it would connect with the alpine logo showing my ipod, but when I go from track to track in a playlist it would crash and give me Error 01.
I have noticed that it would connect if I played a song on my Ipod but paused it, connected it to the cable, then started the car.
But it would still soon crash.
I just bought the unit from bestbuy today, I'm going to go back tomorrow and see if they can replace it or something.
maybe the cable needs to be repluged in.

  • IPod Touch and the battery

This has to do with the comparison between the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
I know all the features are the same, but what about the battery?!
Does the iPod Touch have a battery that is not rechargable like the iPhone? Because I heard that is the main flaw behind the iPhone. Does this flaw carry over to the iPod Touch, or is the battery rechargable?
Or do you have to pay a lot of money to get a new battery from Apple?

i am 100% sure u mean replaceable not rechargeable,
to answer that, u will have to go to apple for both of the batteries
but the battery on the iphone is much larger and powerful. However they are both replaced the same way

  • IPod Classic and Bose SoundDock Question

    Hi Everyone,
I currently have an older IPod 3G and am seriously thinking about buying a new IPod Classic. I also have a Bose SoundDock. Here's my question. Will the IPod Classic fit into the SoundDock. I have all the inserts that came with ths Bose but no way to verify if one will fit the classic. Can anyone verify this or tell me if there's an insert available from Bose?
    Thanks.

The Classic comes with an insert that will fit into the Sounddock.

  • Locking / Grouping Video and External Audio

I have video I recorded and it's in my timeline.
I have audio I recorded from my DAW and mixed down to a stereo mix (for a music video) and I've synced them up via a sync point.
When I grab the video file, I want the audio to move with it ... for them to be locked or grouped.  I tried to "LOCK" them together but it's not working.
    What am I doing wrong?

    2 things ...
    1. Even when I drag the video file (which still has audio from the camera for syncing purposes) into the timeline, the audio in that video file won't LINK correctly.  Meaning, even when I press CMD L it will underline the clips name as if it were "locked" but if I click and drag just the video clip, the audio won't drag with it.  When I splice the video file, the audio won't splice with it.  What's interesting is that FCP used to do this with older projects I was working on but maybe I hit a setting that somehow altered this feature?
    2. I'm creating multiclips from 2 camera angles, the "LINK" feature is greyed out when I want to "LINK" the multiclip and the external audio I've mixed down in ProTools.  It's not even an option to select when I highlite my multiclip and my external audio.
Re: Studio X, I appreciate the suggestion ... but TBH I'm not a video expert and not sure what "nesting" is. I just googled it.  What I've done is created a multiclip using my SYNC IN POINTS I created and now I want to edit/cut this piece together.  I still have color correction and things to do so "nesting" might be a bit premature for my abilities at this point.
any other thoughts on why the audio/video aren't linking correctly and how I can get EDITS and MOVING clips to happen together with just one mouse click?
