IPod Video and Nike + iPod Sport Kit

Does the sport kit work with the video ipod? If not, id there going to be a new version to use with it?

The fifth generation's iPod firmware does not work with the iPod sport kit, possibly because the hard disk on that model of iPod is much more vulnerable to the iPod being dropped than the iPod nano's flash media is.

Will an iPod Classic work for the Nike + iPod Sport Kit?

Will an iPod Classic work for the Nike + iPod Sport Kit?
    No.
Why does the Nike + iPod Sport Kit only work for iPod Nano and iPod Touch?
Only those iPods contain the firmware needed to use it, likely because iPods with a hard drive such as the iPod classic are much more vulnerable to drops and other hard impacts than iPods which use flash media.

  • IPod Video and Nike+?

    Hey everyone,
I was just browsing through the Apple Store and took notice of the Nike+iPod Sport Kit and read its description about it and the Nano. Does this mean only the second generation Nanos are capable of using the Nike+ Sport Kit?
I want to know if its capable of being used on our video iPods, since I don't want to make a purchase of the sport kit and find out that its not compatible with our videos.
And besides, I could use new shoes, and a Nike+ in black doesn't look too shabby

The Nano is the only iPod supported because it uses Flash memory... however the vibration is likely not the reasoning.
The sensor in the shoe needs to constantly stream data to the iPod during a run. If the iPod was hard drive based, it would require the hard drive to be constantly spinning to allow data to be written. This would severely impact battery life.
Since the Nano is Flash based, you can stream data to it without worrying about the negative battery impact.
Of course, vibrations are always a factor, but in most cases running with a hard drive based ipod is not going to do any damage. In fact, Apple indicates that one of the uses for an iPod (all of them) is for exercise. People (myself included) have been running with hard drive based iPods since they were first released.
Who on here remembers having to dock a hard drive head just to move the computer it was installed in safely?
    Yes, I remember those days

  • IPhone and Nike Plus sport kit

I was under the impression NEW iPhone would work nike sport kit. I stopped the AT&T store they did not have a clue. (the APPLE store was too far away).
There several apps that seem to function very similar to the nike Sport kit. Any ideal which is the best or NIKE will be make an app for iphone
    Noppie

    Hi Noppie,
The last word from Apple PR in the news was that the Nike+ Sports Kit was only compatible with the 2nd Generation iPod touch and all the iPod nanos. There's no word on iPhone 3G support, and it looks quite unlikely, since even though the iPod touch has essentially the same software as the iPhone 3G, the iPod touch has that Nike+ adaptor built-in, while the iPhone 3G does not, not even in newly-manufactured models after that announcement.
If you must have the nike+, I recommend the iPod nano. It's smaller, has longer battery life, and it's the cheapest iPod with nike+ support. If you're patient, you may wait and see if the next iPhone has Nike+ built-in, or if the current model will support it.
If you want to use the apps on the app store, I can't say I've tried them, so just read the reviews. I feel as if they are a bit gimmicky, but that's my opinion, and I've never bought one yet, so don't take my word.
    Hope this helps!

  • I have two iPod videos and one iPod touch, 1st generation. The internal battery died in the iPod videos, and the memory in the iPod touch is too little to put all my songs on it. Can I get credit for any of these iPods or possible get a reconditioned iPod

    ?

The only "credit" from Apple for used iPods is the Recycling Program, which gives you 10% off the purchase of a new iPod (at an Apple Store).
There are third-party businesses, such as Gazelle.com. that pays for used iPods.
Apple offers "certified" refurbs, with full warranty, at a reduced price

  • Using iPOD video and Nano on one PC

Need help. I just got a 60 gb iPOD video and have been using iTunes on my PC for my Nano. If I download videos from the iTunes Music Store for my iPOD Video, will it cause a problem when I later plug in my Nano to update? I.E., is there a way for me to use my same iTunes library for both the iPOD Video and iPOD Nano without the Nano crashing because of the video content? Sorry, I'm new to this. I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library and in the case of the Nano you will not have a problem with videos as it is not designed to use them. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually. With the first option it will update everything. With the second option only the tracks in the selected playlists (rather than the entire music library) are downloaded to iPod when you connect. With the manual update option, you manage what goes into your iPod by dragging and dropping selected songs or playlists into iPod:

  • I have an ipod video and I want to get a shuffle too on same pc....

I have an ipod video, and i want to get an ipod shuffle, but do not know if that will cause some type of confusion with itunes. I tried hooking up my girlfriend's ipod to my laptop and I couldn't drag any songs to her ipod. Will I have this same issue with the shuffle?

    - Do you have to right boxes checked in the Tones pane of iTunes for the iPod to get them synced to the iPod:
    - Were the tones purchased with the same account as all the other media on the iPod?

  • Completely Frustrated With Nike Plus Sports Kits

I've bought several Nike Plus Sports Kits recently and every single one of them has had a dead sensor in them. Either I'm buying them from retailers that have had these units on their shelves for years (ever since Nike Plus first rolled out), or there is some sort of defect with the majority of the sensors I've purchased. It's a real pain in the neck to keep having to take these kits back to where I bought them and try a different location to get a new one.
I didn't have this problem when the program first rolled out years ago (when the batteries in these units were fresh), but lately I've lost all desire to even use Nike Plus and have resorted back to a good old fashioned pedometer.
    Any suggestions?

I also have just bought 1 sensor (Fnac in Italy) and it seems with a dead battery. I have tried all possible options and followed instructions to connect to the new sensor, but never made it to connect with my iPod touch (2nd gen) or iPod Nano.
I will return it tomorrow to the shop.

  • Upgrading from an iPod Video to an iPod Touch

I was just wondering if there is a way to possibly trade in my ipod video and so that I get a bit of a discount on the ipod touch? Do I have to do this through the apple store or the best buy where i originally bought my video?

    No. There is no trade-in.
Apple recycles ipods. I believe that they will give you a 10% discount if you bring an old ipod to recycle.
