  • 60GB iPod Video FROZE

    Hi,
I've had my iPod for a few month now with recently over 3,000 songs and today I clicked to my next song on the iPod but then froze. My iPod is currently still on but stuck/froze on the same song. Does anyone have a idea of what I should do? I bought this Video iPod directly from this site. The iPod is in very good condition with no scratches. I keep it in a clear agent18 plastic cover.
    Thanks for the time.

    See this.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
If this doesn't work, try restoring the iPod to factory settings.

  • 60 gig ipod video Froze..

I have the latest version of iTunes and I was in a hurry to work this morning while updating my ipod. My ipod is frozen and says Do not disconnect. The battery logo is "charging" and the time on top has been frozen since this morning. Ive checked out the 5 R's and ive had no luck in restarting it. If need be I would like to reinstall my ipod. If anyone could help me in this matter I would be eternally greatfull

Keep trying to reset it (remember its Menu and center button for 6-10 seconds).
If that doesn't work, try resetting it but hold for about 30 seconds.

  • Trouble with a new iPod video (and a question)

My new iPod video is causing my computer to freeze when I connect it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. After that, it seemed to be going OK, but it only downloaded about 500m (of a total of 50g) before iTunes froze again and stopped downloading (of course the "Do Not Disconnect" icon on the iPod stayed there, but I had no choice but to disconnect it!).
All of my music is on an external Seagate hard drive coming in through one of my USB inputs. The iPod is on the other USB input. Could this be part of the problem? I don't think it's a drive letter issue since it did start downloading the last time before freezing.
Also, I'm wondering if I can use my old firewire cable from my previous iPod to speed up the transfer process once I actually get the thing working.
Any help would be much appreciated!

  • IPod Video anomaly - please help if you can

Hey, anyone else have this problem? -
I have a 30GB iPod video, brand new. During the most recent/its first software update, iTunes froze. I gave it a cautious 10 minutes to see if it would work out, but I eventually had to close iTunes in the task manager. I did a WinXP 'safe disconnect' for the iPod, which I figured was my best option. Anyway, the screen was frozen on the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen - a problem which, after trolling the boards, a lot of people have when disconnecting.
So I did a soft reset, then tried again. Gave it even more time, and it finished updating -- that status bar likes to freeze for a long time, at least on my computer.
My problem is this: since then, the iPod display freezes constantly when it's disconnected and I'm using the navigation - usually within 30 seconds of me turning it on. The backlight will stick on, the screen will get slightly skewed, and a couple small, patch-like color bars pop up around the screen. It still clicks like I'm navigating, but the screen's frozen. The only way to get it back is a soft reset, but it will often repeat the performance after it's done that.
Freezing seemed to coincide with the backlight timer, so I changed that setting to 10 seconds, and it froze after 2 seconds of inactivity anyway.
This iPod is only a month old, it's never been dropped or gotten wet or anything. And aside from that iTunes freeze, I've never pulled the plug on it. I've tried everything on Apple's Support page, but it hasn't helped.
This happens 4 out of 5 times I navigate on the iPod. Is something fried/do I need to send it in? Or is there something I haven't tried?
Thanks to anyone who reads, double to anyone who replies. Cheers

Hey, thanks for the reply. I've restored twice already and it hasn't helped... but I don't have those four options when I select 'Restore.'
However, noticing that difference prompted me to (I can't believe I didn't double-check this earlier) check my version, and I'm still running 7.0.0.70. I can't imagine how that could be causing the problem, but i'm going to install the newest version and then do another restore. I'll post the results.
    Thanks for the advice though

  • Switched iPod Video format from PC to Mac - "Restore" fried my iPod

I bought an iPod Video 30gb in Dec. 05. I originally formatted it to work with my Dell PC Inspiron laptop. Everthing worked great and I didn't have any problems. About two months ago I bought a Macbook and transferred all of my files, including my music, from the former to the latter. I authorized my iPod on my Macbook and registered my Macbook to read all of the music I purchased on iTunes. So, I made the switch from PC to Mac without any problems and my iPod Video worked just fine without any issues. It synched my songs, etc.
Then, about 2 weeks ago I noticed that iTunes would not allow me to update the iPod software because the "Settings" screen that appears when I plugged my iPod into my Macbook said that it cannot update iPods that use the PC format. So, I read the instructions for switching the format of my iPod from PC to Mac and apparently all I had to do was select the "Restore" function in the Settings screen. I did so and it appeared that everything was OK. It erased my iPod, reformatted the software, and then downloaded all of my music.
The next day though the problems started. My iPod started to freeze up; none of the buttons worked and I had to reboot it to shut off the screen. Strangely though, it wouldn't rebott all the way because it didn't boot back up. I waited a few hours and pressed the middle and menu button to try to reboot it again and it worked, but the battery was completely drawn down. I recharged the battery, but the same thing happened again after listening to music for 10 minutes. The iPod froze up, wouldn't respond, wouldn't reboot, rebooted later with an almost dead battery, recharged it and started all over. I thought that perhaps doing the "Restore" function again would fix the problem. So, I "Restored" my iPod two more separate times. But, nothing has worked.
I took my iPod to the SoHo, NYC Apple store this morning and they had no idea what to do. To my extreme frustration, they kept on trying to tell me that there was something wrong with my battery. But, I repeatedly told them that everything was fine until I did the "Restore" function to change the format from PC to Mac. Has anyone heard of this problem? Is there anything that I can do?
    Thank you for your help.

    see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
seems it could be some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, if the above does not solve, then do a Restore with a PC, and see what happen

  • Itunes shuts down when I connect my ipod video

I have a ipod video 60gb (the one right before they released the 80gb). I recently had to reinstall OS 10.4 due to freezing issues. Well, it still freezes, and it froze during the re-sync of the ipod and I had to reboot the ipod cause I had to reboot the computer. Now whenever I connect the ipod, it is recognized by the CPU, but whenever Itunes starts up with the ipod connected, it just shuts right down.
    Help...

A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.
let's get a crash log from itunes, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • IPod Touch froze during restoration

I recently was given a first generation iPod Touch.  About 2 days ago I paid for the iOS 3.1 download and started the process.  It seems that everything worked fine on the computer, but my iPod froze during the process on the iPod screen with the apple and loading bar.  Today, I tried to hook it back to iTunes to finish the process, and all it would do is sync with the screen still frozen.  I tried today to restore it, and it got stuck on the same screen as it's been frozen on with the loading bar a little further than before.
Do you know what's wrong with it? What should I do?
    Thanks so much!

I don't think this is an individual hardware problem as so many people have reported the same incident and plenty others probably don't know about the site. I am having this problem with itunes 8.1. While my ipod touch is recognized by it perfectly my 60gb ipod video is not recognized by it. I have tried all the recommended solutions in the support section and nothing helps. Apple needs to fix this problem ASAP.

  • Ipod Video Mempry Loss 30GB

Hi from Ireland. I recently purchased a 30GB Ipod Video. This morning the Ipod froze and after doing the quick fix, my PC no longer required the Ipod. I eventually had to do a full restore but now, even though nothing is saved on my Ipode it's showing the available memory as just under 28GB's. I restored again but still the same problem. Anyone else come across this or knows what I can do to get bacl full storage capacity. Thanks.

An empty 30GB iPod will have about 27-28GB of available space after a restore. This is perfectly normal.
The discrepancy is due to the way hard drive manufacturers measure capacity and how it is reported by your computer's operating system. (Binary vs. Decimal measurements)

  • Ipod touch froze after reset

Hi. Does anyone knows how I can get the ipod touch to work after it was resetted. It does nothing but show the Apple icon and won't do anything else.

Got a new 4g 32GB for Xmas. Trouble since day 1. I'm not one who loads all kinds of apps, just a few games, music, and movies. I don't sync email, or surf the web(much). Really don't use it much at all. I've restored this thing 4 times since receiving it. It just locks up, I reset, and it goes to the original setup screen (you know, the one with the picture of the usb plug...). Each time I've had to reload all my music, etc. Real pain in the rear.
Last night I was on the plane watching a movie (which I had to stop and restart about every ten minutes because the video froze while sound remained, or vice versa) and it powers off, restarts, then presents a screen that says there are no video files on the device, even though I had been watching a movie (in small pieces) for 45 minutes.
The POS is now connected to my PC, frozen on the apple logo screen; can't power it off, if I reset it comes back to the same state; it'll restart itself occasionally with the same result.
Am I the only one experiencing this type of behavior, or did I just get a defective device? Software is all up to date...thinking of making a trip back to Best Buy...

  • Video froze and loud screeching sound

Last nite I was watching a video using iTunes and about halfway through it the video froze and a very loud, annoying screeching sound came through the speakers. I tried to quit iTunes but the entire system was frozen. Only way to stop that screeching noise was to hold down the power key on my MBP and shut it down. After a few moments I rebooted and the MBP seems to be running fine now.
I haven't added any ram or anything else to my MBP in a couple years. Mac Hardware Test says no problems.
    Anyone else ever experience this?

Sounds like you should contact Apple and get the drive replaced. In the mean time, backup DAILY!

  • Help - I have two faulty 60GB iPod Videos

Hopefully someone here can offer some guidance. I have two 60GB iPod Videos (mine and the wife's) which are both two or three years old. Both of them are playing up. Mine freezes and crashes constantly. It starts with random blocks and dots, artifacts and graphical gliches appearing on screen as I navigate (everytime the week clicks the "pattern" changes) and then it will freeze and crash. I then have to do a reboot and then when it comes back on it is okay for a while, it may even play a whole album. Then I start it out of hibernation the next day and it happens again. Apart from that it is okay and it charges, connects to iTunes, etc. I am okay with opening it up to check it out. Anyone know what I have to replace to repair it?
My wife's iPod is something else. It had been missing for a month or so and then we found it at the back of a drawer. It was dead so I charged it, however, once it got passed the "the battery is extremely low" message and booted up proper it then froze my PC and stopped charging. My PC screen froze and only started working again when I disconnected it. I tried charging it on my laptop and the same thing happened - it froze the screen on the laptop. Finally I tried charging it through a wall plug adaptor and again it would not charge it past the low battery message. It works, but literally only for a few songs before the small charge on the battery runs out. Again, anyone know what is required to repair this problem?
I was thinking of either buying a faulty ipod off ebay and try to salvage parts to repair one or both of the above, or just using one to repair the other.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried restoring them to factory settings through itunes? Sounds like from your psot that you've reset them, but not restored them.
    Good luck!

  • Problem with iPod Video (30gb) since update

    Hi all.
I, today have had a slight problem with the iPod updater on my iPod Video. I have installed the newest version of itunes (6.0.2 I think), which prompted me to install the newest iPod updater with it, I downloaded that and installed it. After installing I ran the updater, it began to finish the installation and my computer froze (I'm using a new hard drive in my computer and found out thats the problem). My iPod, now, when I turn it on has a blank white screen, I've tried the resetting method (toggle hold, then hold menu and select 6 - 10 seconds) and the light goes away, the ipod beeps 3 times and the white screen comes back. Can anybody please help me? I have tried running the installer again and it just freezes, and when the iPod is plugged into the pc itunes doesn't start, how I had it configured.
    Please help!!
    Apreciated - Sam.
    * I have also browsed the whole website thoroughly and found nothing. I have also tried google, and found nothing relating to my problem *

I am leaving soon on a trip and would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks

  • IPod Video Won't Boot Past Apple Logo

I've had my 5th Generation iPod Video (80 GB) for about 1 1/2 years. I was using it the other day and it froze in the middle of a song, so I used the reset function to reboot it. Now it won't boot past the Apple logo; it just stays there (until the battery runs out).
I definitely can't use the iTunes "restore" function, since I've been unable to get my computer to acknowledge when it is plugged in.
I'm guessing this means my hard drive is done for? If so, I'm comfortable replacing it myself, but I could use some advice regarding a good (and economically priced) replacement drive. After a quick look inside my iPod, it appears the hard drive model is a Toshiba MK8010GAH.

You might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...
