Ipod video & ipod nano

I've got 2 ipod videos currently running on my pc and I'm trying to add an ipod nano to it and my computer will not even see the new device. It doesn't show up in My Computer or itunes. Is there some issue with trying to run that many devices from one pc or is my nano just jacked up? By the way, I've run through the gamut of "suggestions" from apple and it's been no help at all.
Thanks

  • 2 Ipods (video and nano) on one computer.  HOW?

I have a video ipod and a nano. I am trying to get them to share the same library, but am not having any luck. Can anyone let me know how to do this. The video ipod was originally set up on a different library (windows). I de-authorized it, but it won't sync. Will I lose all existing purchased music/videos in the process?

Each of you should create a separate playlist, with only the music you want.
Then open iTunes prefs -> iPod and set it to Automatically update only selected playlists.

  • Using iPOD video and Nano on one PC

Need help. I just got a 60 gb iPOD video and have been using iTunes on my PC for my Nano. If I download videos from the iTunes Music Store for my iPOD Video, will it cause a problem when I later plug in my Nano to update? I.E., is there a way for me to use my same iTunes library for both the iPOD Video and iPOD Nano without the Nano crashing because of the video content? Sorry, I'm new to this. I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library and in the case of the Nano you will not have a problem with videos as it is not designed to use them. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually. With the first option it will update everything. With the second option only the tracks in the selected playlists (rather than the entire music library) are downloaded to iPod when you connect. With the manual update option, you manage what goes into your iPod by dragging and dropping selected songs or playlists into iPod:
    Loading songs onto iPod automatically
    Managing content manually on iPod

  • IPhoto 6 & iPod Video iPod

Using iPhoto 5 I had scanned about 2,500 35mm slides and placed them on my ipod. These were used during lectures connected to a TV - I only had to carry the iPod - beautiful!
All worked beautifully for months then suddenly, whilst syncing the ipod I saw a message 'Deleting photos from ipod'. Some 400 scanned photos (without the suffix .jpg) were deleted from the ipod - but remained 'safe' in iPhoto. During subsequent syncs these have never been synced back onto the iPod. I now find I have to place the suffix .jpg on thename of every scanned photo in order that it will be copied from iPhoto onto the iPod; this was not necessary in the past!
Anyone else encountered this, is it a problem with iPhoto 6.0.6?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
This is not an iPhoto question but an iTunes / iPod one, and you might have more luck there.
You're not adding that file suffix in the finder are you? Can you still see your pics in iPhoto? Even when you click on them to view them full size?

  • Ipod Video (iPod Classic) data transfer to Ipod Touch?

I am very interested in purchases an iPod touch, but there is one thing I am curious about before I do. Now I've had my 30g iPod video since the day it came out and needless to say...it's chock full of pictures...songs...videos...most of which are no longer available to me (broken or lost CD/DVDs...lost pictures)...basically just a lot of data that is only on my iPod.
Now before I purchase the iPod touch, is there a way to directly transfer the data from my Classic iPod to the iPod touch? I am aware that there are programs that do this; I'm just wondering if there's an easy way or if it's even possible.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

This article at ilounge.com might help you...they're usually good with situations like this.

I believe they cover both Mac and Windows perspectives of the problem. I wish you luck, I had to do this dance a few times on my old Mac before I finally got the drive space to keep my music on my computer and on my iPods at the same time!

  • IPod video, 3 Nano, and itunes...can they co-exist?

Please help me..my teens are breathing down my neck to use my iTunes account. What is the best way to get three nano devices for three children up and running with iTunes? Do I make different accounts, or share one very large library, or what? We have different tastes in music...

I don't know if Windows Vista does this, but in XP you can set up different user accounts and then each account can have its own iTunes library.
Go to the start menu, then control panel, then user accounts, then create new account.
I have a nano and my sister has a mini and that's how we keep ours seperate. We can't sync or charge them at the same time so it would help if you got a wall charger of three (if you don't already have one).

  • Is ipod video worth getting?

i am thinking about gettin an ipod video, my nano has recently died.is the video worth it? what is best about it?

    YES YES YES!!!!!
My favorite thing about this is the video playback. You can put dvds on it and Podcasts are great. Podcasts are really cool for me because i can't put my home dvds on my ipod and i don't want to buy the movies. Podcasts are free and entertaining. If you are going to a country in europe then they have podcasts to help you learn the language. I am in high school and about to learn french and these really help! I do recomend getting the Video iPod becuase they are just sooooooo great!

  • Kca-ip500 compat. w/ ipod video?

I searched, but didn't find the info I needed. Anyone here know if the kenwood car adapter KCA-IP500 is compatible with ipod video? They don't list it on their website, but I figure it's just too new.
I heard the ipod video and nano use a different protocol for accessing the ipod through the dock... is this true?

I use the same interface to connect the iPod to my Kenwood car head unit.
When connected, my iPod shows a Kenwood logo in the screen and the controls of the iPod are disabled. I then operate the iPod through the car head unit.
I have a car unit with a video screen and have not tried to play movies via the iPod, but as far as I know, you can't operate the iPod independently when connected to the car unit.
Well I can't that's for sure. Maybe your car unit works differently?

  • New Video Ipod

I currently have a library in Itunes, which was originally created with my mini ipod. I recently purchase a new ipod (video ipod,30GB).
To update the new ipod with my current library, do I just plug the usb cables and it will automatically update? Hence, I plan to retain the old version of Itunes (V. 6).
Please advise at your earliest convenience.
    Ms. Serious

I agree with the post that you should buy the largest storage you can afford. Content adds up quickly.
I have done a few tests using NERO Recode (which I see is not as popular of a way to squash video as many of the methods on this forum - But I've been using it for a long time and it didn't even need to be updated to make IPod compatable movies. (and easy to crop widescreen movies if I don't want the letterbox or squashed head effect)
Since Nero lets you choose the quality according to how much space you want to squash the video into, I did some tests using a 2 hour (nearly exactly) movie. I tried putting it into 400MB (stunning and flawless on the Ipod screen) 200MB (notably blocky in some action scenes) and 300MB which seems to be a magic medium - barely noticable artifacts and a pretty small file.
I also agree with the post that said to recode movies to the format and put them somewhere else. I can store 15+ 300MB movies on a single DVD and just put the ones I want for a particular road trip ect. into Itunes/Ipod.
I could also keep a slew of movies along with my 30+GB of music on my new 60G. (as soon as I get it fixed - mine had a slight problem upon delivery and keeps rebooting)

  • Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!
Someone somewhere must know a way around this........ as the London apple store "has never heard of this problem"

  • IPod Updater 2006-06-28 killed 2GB Nano and a 30GB Video iPod

Both were bought in december 2005, I was impressed as they both have worked totally perfect until Monday, plugged fully charged hardley used 30GB Video into front USB on a G5 1.6, iTunes booted and a box appeared saying iPod needed update, so I clicked ok, it then said update was succesful. iPod rebooted, Mac an iTunes no longer recognised the iPod? so I did a reset, this sorted the problem and it seemed to work fine. My daughter then wanted to plug in her Nano, so she did, I unplugged the 30GB as it was fully charged and turned it off , plugged in the nano an thought it was ok to also update, the update worked fine and rebooted straight onto the desktop an also in iTunes, we left it to recharge fully before ejecting an turning off. I then plugged the 30GB back into USB, Mac/iTunes would not recognise again? Tried to complete the 5Rs managed the first 4 but as I could not mount the iPod, I could not Restore! Tried on Powerbook, nothing apart from no charge icon! but it would no longer charge and was totally flat without any use? plugged it in to wall charger for 3 hrs, would turn on but straight away said that the iPod needed charging? Then my daughter said she could not turn Nano on, this is now totally and completely dead? nothing at all happens even when plugged into wall socket? this is too much to be a coincidence, it must be the update that has somehow fried the batteries? they are both still under warrenty so I have ordered support online and Im waiting for my boxes, but I just would like to know if anyone else out there has had simular problems? or if anyone can shine any light or information about this? I have been a total Machead for 16 years but this has just cast a shadow on my experience! :-|

I too have had almost the identical problem. I did the update and the next time I plugged the Ipod in a lot of my library was missing and I received a corrupt database error message. I have tried everything conceivable to restore my Ipod video 30 GB but It keeps locking up. I occasionally will get it to boot up but it will only stay on for a maximum of about 3 minutes and then locks up. I have tried the 5R's and tried putting it in disk mode. I have tried the diagnostic mode which also locks up. Most of the time I get a message after resetting the ipod that I need to restore using iTunes and then it shuts off. The only way I can turn on the thing in the first place is by doing a reset. I think Apple has some explaining to do. I have seen quite a few posts of the same problem which seems to be attributed to the update. I suppose that I will be sending mine in for service. Probably would be a good idea to call customer service first, even though they probably will charge me for the call.

  • 8 GB Nano vs 30 GB Video Ipod

These are the same price. I'm trying to decide which to purchase. Are their any reasons other than size that I would choose the Nano over the Video Ipod with lots of storage?
      Windows XP

The Nano is also flash based vs. a hard drive in the video models. Flash memory is much more expensive than hard drives so this is why an 8GB flash player costs the same as a much larger capacity hard drive player. The benefit to a flash player is that it has no moving parts and will likely never fail. I've seen very few comments regarding Nanos failing. The most common hardware failure on hard drive players is the hard drive.

  • Video iPod Nano doesn't work when plugged in anymore

As of recently, whenever I plug my Video iPod Nano into my Hi-Fi the screen locks up. The music still plays through the Hi-Fi, and I can control the volume via the unit however the screen completely is frozen, and unresponsive to any movement on the clicker. It worked fine before, and this now a recent happening, and I have a feeling the latest update to the iPod Nano knocked it out.

I'm not not sure why this question is flagged as "answered".
I'm experiencing exactly the same behavior. If my nano (3G) is put into my HiFi while in play mode, it will continue playing through the HiFi, but the nano screen will freeze and its controls will become unresponsive. Only the HiFi volume can be controlled via the HiFi top buttons. Ditto for the remote - only the volume controls function (although the HiFi green LED responds to all remote commands as normal).
If the nano is inserted into the HiFi in menu mode, it just remains unresponsive. When taken out of the HiFi dock, it will invariably remain unresponsive for 30-40 seconds, then suddenly light up and return to normal.
In fact, my nano (3G) has always acted this annoying way with our HiFi - which continues to work flawlessly (extra menues and all) with the sundry older iPod models that we own.
Yes, I have tried resetting and restoring the nano (now at firmware version 1.1) and the HiFi no avail.
I'm curious to learn whether anyone has actually gotten a nano (3G) to work properly with a HiFi.
P.S. Great product the HiFi - can't for the good of me figure out why Apple discontinued it... It's truly adding insult to injury if this thing of beauty no longer works properly with the newer iPods.
