Ipod video not charging- plugged in all night, screen blinks 3 symbols

Hi,
My video iPod is plugged in to my computer (has been all night)and the screen keeps switching eratically. The symbols it switches between are a low battery charge, a small battery with an exclamation, and the apple start up screen. I can also hear it making noises somethimes during the apple screen like it is trying to turn on and dies. What is the problem?

Either your adapter, your cable, or your phone is defective. or there is dirt in the connector sufficient to prevent charging. Or it was plugged into an outlet that was not energized.

    Try the steps listed here...
    iPod Doesn't Charge
Also, does anyone you know have a power adapter or an iPod-speaker system that charges iPods? See if your iPod charges when connected to that.
It may be that the USB port on your computer is low-powered. Try one on the back of your computer.

  • IPod video not charging & not working

My iPod was used moderately between November 2006 and June 2007. Always in Belgium with charging and synchronising correctly (always on the same computer). In July, the iPod was taken to the US and was used there + was charged on a local computer. Return to Belgium, and nothing longer works !! Not able to turn on, not charging either.
I have tried the recommanded actions such as toggle with Hold key and pressing Menu & middle point, but without any luck. Has anybody got an idea what I could try next ??

  • My iphone 4s has been plugged in all night and will not charge

my iphone 4s will not charge, it has been plugged in all night. i know for a fact it is not a problem with the charger as i have tested it will my brothers phone.
Also when i press the home and power buttons nothing happens? i need help asap my phone has my life on it

When you say the when you "press the home and power buttons nothing happens" do you mean you're pressing and holding them both at the same time? If the apple doesn't appear after about 15 seconds, it's not going to. You can try inspecting the port for debris that might be preventing a charge. However, it sounds as if you may need to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
If the information on the phone is vital, I'm sure you must have taken the trouble to back it up. When the phone is replaced/repaired, you'll just need to restore the new one from your back up.
    Best of luck.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the articles below.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

You might have to bite the bullet and restore the device if nothing else works. If that doesn't bring it back to life, make an appointment at an Apple Store and let take a look at it.

  • IPod will not charge or show up in iTunes

My iPod will not charge when I connect it to my computer through the USB cable. It does not show up on iTunes. Nothing comes up on the iPod screen at all. The iPod is completely dead. I have tried pressing the menu and center button at the same time. I have tried toggling the hold button. I have tried every combination. It is an old iPod (3 or 4 years at least) 80gb video. I have tried charging on another computer. It seems to only stop working like this if the battery dies completely.
Is there another solution to this besides the menu/center button solution?
    Thanks!!

This is the exact same problem I have. The only thing that works for me is to charge it on an old ihome alarm clock. I bought the alarm clock at the same time as the ipod, and I haven't tried it on a newer ihome device. Once my ipod is totally dead, thats the only thing that will work. I even took it to the apple store and they told me all they could do was give me 10% off a new ipod and "recycle" mine. Before you do that, I would really recommend trying to charge it on an ihome or similar device. Here is a link to the ihome I used to charge mine: http://www.uberreview.com/2005/06/ihome-ih5-ipod-alarm-clock.htm
I hope this works for you!

  • My ipod is not charging..and the headphones...

My ipod is not charging. When I plug the cord into the ipod the ipod says "Firewire connections are not supported. To tranfer songs, connect the usb cable provided" or it says "the current accessory is not supported by this ipod." This is the same cord I have been using since i got this ipod 2 years ago. So I know this is not the wrong cord. (I have a 30g video fifth generation ipod)
Also the right side of my head phones dont work in the ipod...I know its the ipod because both sides of the headphones work in my laptop and in other mp3 players...I think my ipod is gone for good but can anyone help me

Sounds like you have damage to your logic board. How far did you drop the iPod, and did it hit on a hard surface?
You can send it to http://www.iresq.com and for $9 they will diagnose it and email you an estimated cost to fix it. You can Google for other 3rd party repair sites.
If your iPod is more than 2 years old it can't possibly be under warranty so you can't send it in for warranty repair. You can trade it in at an Apple Store for 10% off the price of a new one, or you could sell it on eBay or Craigslist.
