IPod video not recognized by iTunes after bad disconnect
I recently disconnected my iPod without ejecting it first, (disk mode is enabled), and I had done it a few times before without a problem, so I figured why not. But this time it didn't work out. All of my music, videos etc are seemingly erased from the iPod, and only one thing remains - the few notes files (song lyrics) that I had on it. The iPod is no longer recognized in iTunes.. but I suppose windows recognizes it, except it seems to treat it just as a mass storage device or something. I ran the diagnostics test here:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Inc. Dimension 8400
iTunes 7.0.1.8
iPodService 7.0.1.8 is currently running.

I can't restore it because it doesn't show up in iTunes, and I've tried all the support suggestions on the main page. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?
Ok, since my last post I messed around a bit more. I found that dragging the F drive that the iPod was in from windows explorer to iTunes that iTunes recognized it, but said it was corrupted. So I tried to restore it, but I got error 1418. So I reset my computer, tried restoring again, and it worked. I thought I had it figured out but iTunes says its still corrupted. I figure this is something I'm certainly going to have to send to apple to have fixed?

IPod is not recognized in ITunes after upgrade to 7.3.1
Please help. I upgraded ITunes to the 7.3.1 version and now my IPod is not recognized in my ITunes. The USB port is working since my IPod recharged when I plugged it into the computer. I uninstalled & then reinstalled ITunes, but, my IPod is still not recognized by ITunes or my computer. I cannot find it listed in "my computer" files.
Any suggestions as to what happened? Thanks.
J.
Dell Windows XPYour post solved the same problem for me. Thank you so much! And thanks to JaketheSnake for starting this thread. iTunes used to start up automatically whenever I connected my iPod Touch, but a couple of months ago it quit doing that. I didn't think much of it as I just clicked on iTunes in the dock and opened it and went on my merry way. I just figured something in the last iTunes update changed it's behavior. But lately I noticed that my iPod Touch would be in the source list while it was syncing and then it would sometimes just disappear. I was too lazy to start a thread, I guess, because I just thought someone would tell me to "restore" my iPT and I had gotten used to my little "work arounds". But now it's fixed, thanks to both of you.

IPod Touch not recognized by iTunes after a Reset?
My iPod Touch is not recognized by iTunes. This has nothing to do with the new OS update. 2 months ago I was having lots of problems and decided to use the reset since it was not showing up on iTunes to do the Restore. Since then I was able to get all of my apps back but cannot get anything off the computer like my songs. When I plug it in anywhere the battery life screen does not come one (dark) and the little sound it makes (silent) is absent as well. Any ideas anyone?
Your USB 2.0 cable might be broken. You might need to buy another. Heres some links:
http://www.amazon.com/Original-Connector-Cable-MA591G-Apple/dp/B004WWLULA/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331433047&sr=8-1
The one from amazon is around $12 cheaper. But if you want the new Apple Cable, here it is.

IPOD touch not recognized by itunes after reinstalling OS because of crash
My IPOD Touch isn't recognized by ITUNES after the OS got reinstalled. I hook it up and ITunes doesn't respond, it's like it isn't even connected.
I've restarted both devices (nothing), I've tried both USB ports (they're fine), nothing. Any suggestions? You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Check out this article:

IPod Video not recognized by iTunes
hello,
I just got my iPod Video 60G. I currently have USB 1.1 as part of my computer. When I plug it in to any of those ports, iPod works fine. However, I decided to get a PCI USB 2.0 card so I can improve the performance of the iPod. When I plug the iPod in those USB ports, the iPod does not get picked up in iTunes. As well, it only shows as a Generic Drive in MyComputer, as opposed to the name that was assigned to the iPod like it does when I plug it into the USB 1.1 ports.
I'm not sure if this is an iPod issue or a USB port issue. I tried plugging other devices into these USB drives and they work fine.
I don't want to start removing and resetting things before I know what the problem is.
Please help...
Thanks.
Windows XPTry reinstalling the iPod software and then connect your iPod in the USB2. Maybe the software picks up what connection you have and currently only will recognize the USB1.

reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8. After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes. My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem. I can eliminate any problems with the cable and connection.
I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.

IPod generation not recognized in iTunes
My iPod isn't recognized as being fifth generation when I plug it in. The summary page of the iPod in iTunes has a n/a under the categories of serial number and software version. This deletes all the video from my ipod when I eject it as well as not allowing me to get to my music (even though my music is still on there). It simply displays "All" when I try to go to my music then there is nothing when I click that.
In order to get my computer to recognize my ipod I have to keep unplugging it and plugging it back in and it takes forever to recognize it.
Also, when I have tried to fix the problem by restoring it, when it puts the music back on it comes up with "the disk cannot be read from or written to" I have no idea what to do. Please help.

My ipod is not recognized by itunes. Menus missing in itunes.
After I updated my ipod and my itunes, now the ipod is not recognized in itunes. I went through all the recommended steps; starting and stopping various programs on my control panel, turning ipod on and off, checking cables - everything short of standing on my head. In the process of all that, I realized that the menu/task bar on the upper left side of the itunes page was gone. It wasn't there when I started this odyssey and it still isn't there.. I uninstalled and installed itunes again. I have Windows 8. Still no menu and still not recognizing the ipod. My ipod is 32gb touch screen. Probably 3 years old or so. Was working fine before the updates......
Thanks!!!Hi All,
I tried to download the update and iTunes doesn't work at all! It won't even open. I have tried all of the steps above but still no joy.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have been on this for one week already.
Close to my wits end and moving back to a Sony and trying Android for the very first time.
Thanks in advance.
