Ipod video not recongnized

Hi everybody...Please help me because I'm lost here and cannot receive any help.
At first, my Ipod video (30 Gb) was impossible to turn off. I followed the infos on the Apple web site, tried to restore, and all the rest and did not work...and now it is worse. It is not recognized neither by Itunes nor by the computer (Windows XP). It is impossible here in Dominican Republic to receive any help. It seems I erased everything and have no idea how to do now! I put it on disc and had a hope to reinstall the program through Itunes, but nothing happened. When I turn it on it shows the sad (so am I also!)icon and then tells me to wait, very low battery (it was connected hours long...). Thanks.

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
i know that this is going to sound strange, but its something to try if you are getting close to sending in for repair, or buying a new one. somewhere in my search for a cure i came across this:
http://askpang.typepad.com/relevanthistory/2004/11/meeting_thesad.html
this guy by the name of 'Eddie' said that he tried dropping his ipod from 3 inches and it worked. the whole forum tried as well, in disbelief. i have a 30GB Video, and i got the exact same problem as you. the screen just kept going from the apple logo to sad ipod to very low battery, and it wasnt connecting to my computer, so i had no hopes of restoring it. i was absolutely amazed.. i tried tapping it lightly on the right side three times and it worked like a charm! i must admit i was skeptic at first, but it worked and i am ecstatic! im told that this is because there are some wires that connect to your HD on the top right side of the ipod. hope this helps, good luck.

• 30 GB Ipod Video not recognized by either Windows or Itunes

Hi,
I purchased a new 30 GB iPod Video (5th generation) today to replace my old iPod photo. It's been charging for a few hours, but when I plug it into the computer there is hardly any recognition. Windows will make the "you plugged in a USB" noise but that's it. The iPod will not go into "DO NOT DISCONNECT" mode, nor will iTunes recognize the iPod.
iTunes is updated, and I tried many of the tips on the pages here. I've also tried to reset it by holding the menu and enter buttons, and it reset, but there was no recognition. I even tried toggling the hold switch back and forth a few times and I got noting.
I'm seriously perplexed, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam

• IPod Video not recognized by iTunes

hello,
I just got my iPod Video 60G. I currently have USB 1.1 as part of my computer. When I plug it in to any of those ports, iPod works fine. However, I decided to get a PCI USB 2.0 card so I can improve the performance of the iPod. When I plug the iPod in those USB ports, the iPod does not get picked up in iTunes. As well, it only shows as a Generic Drive in MyComputer, as opposed to the name that was assigned to the iPod like it does when I plug it into the USB 1.1 ports.
I'm not sure if this is an iPod issue or a USB port issue. I tried plugging other devices into these USB drives and they work fine.
I don't want to start removing and resetting things before I know what the problem is.
Please help...
Thanks.

Try reinstalling the iPod software and then connect your iPod in the USB2. Maybe the software picks up what connection you have and currently only will recognize the USB1.

• 5th Gen iPod Video not syncing all video podcasts

My 5th Gen iPod video is not syncing all of my video podcasts.
I did specify in the settings to sync all videos, but for some reason it only places 3 of each on the iPod. This is using the latest version of iTunes, OS X 10.4.8, and iPod up-to-date.
This did work fine with the previous version of iTunes and only seemed to happen since the "upgrade".
I've tried restoring the ipod - didn't work
Reinstalled iTunes - didn't work
Rebooted system - didn't work
Undocked/Redocked iPod - didn't work
Please Help.

Assuming you're running iTunes 7, connect the iPod and wait for it to appear in the iTunes source list. When it does, click on it, and click on the 'podcast' tab. Make sure it is set to sync all podcasts. Check the 'video' tab as well.
iTunes 7 included several new options for setting just how the iPod will update in iTunes. So, it's a good idea to go through them and make sure they're set exactly how you'd like them to be.
Hope this helps

• New ipod video not recognized by my computer at all

i have an ipod mini and itunes on my windows xp computer. i just bought the new ipod video that it is not recognized by my computer at all. i plug it in and the entire computer freezes. if i plug in my mini everything works fine.
i have tried updating/uninstalling my new ipod video. i am worried that if i uninstall itunes that i will lose my purchased music.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do? does anyone have the same problem as me? i really want to start using my new ipod help please.

I assume you have installed the iPod driver, before connecting the 5G iPod. It is possible the device driver for the mini is different, and thus confusing your computer. The iPod driver is on the CD that came with your 5G iPod (iPod with Video)

• IPod Video not connecting

I have a 30gb iPod Video and when I plug it up to the cable nothing happens. Windows doesnt see it and neither does iTunes and the iPod itself doesnt light up when it's plugged in. But when I unplug the cable from the iPod(its still connected to the computer) the screen on the iPod lights up. When I plug it into another computer it works just fine so its not the cable. I have tried installing the newer iTunes, stopping and starting the iPod service and putting it on manual, nothing works! What do I do??! I need my music! lol

• IPod Video Notes - Tab Character not interpreted

Hello,
I'm having some difficulty with the formatting of text displayed on the iPod Video.
For some reason, my iPod refuses to interpret the TAB character. It simply omits it, concatenating the adjacent text into one long string. I created text files in nano, saving them in both the default and "mac" modes, as well as in the MAC application "textedit" and neither worked.
An obvious solution would be to use spaces to replace the tabs, however for some reason the iPod appears to use a proportional font, which screws up the alignment.
Can anyone tell me how to get the iPod to see the TABs or to change to a non-propotional font?

Me again,
James Lee, at Tropical Software was kind enough to respond to an e-mail and explain that this is an inherent flaw in the ipod's ability to render text.
I'm really stunned that the iPod notes function can't display a tab character. That's just silly. The TAB has been a part of ascii since before FM radio was cool.
C'mon Apple - fix this one!
And let me plug Tropical Software. Anyone with customer service like they have, deserves it! Check out their Tropical Notes for iPod at www.tropic4.com
I figured I'd answer my own question in case someone else googles for this...

Anapod Reinitializer is a free, lightweight utility for reformatting and reinitializing your iPod. Its function is equivalent to the Restore button in the Apple iPod Updater utility. Anapod Reinitializer runs on all versions of Windows, so it allows Windows 98/ME users (who cannot use Apple's software because it only runs on 2000/XP) to format their iPods.

Anapod Explorer is hands-down the most advanced Windows software companion for your iPod. Anapod can copy and backup iPod music and playlists to your PC and integrates your iPod into Windows Explorer as a full-fledged device under My Computer, allowing you to transfer files to your iPod as well and use a familiar Explorer interface to manage on-board music, playlists, contacts, notes, and more. Also included are a built-in database called AnapodSQL and a one-of-a-kind web-based streaming interface to your iPod called Anapod Xtreamer.

• New iPod Video not Synching after initial Synch

Here is the history. My old iPod 20GB died last week and it was going to cost $271 to repair it. It was cheaper to buy a new 5.5 30GB Video iPod, so I did. I love it, but I have one small problem. After I connect the ipod to the computer, iTunes recognizes it and synchs all the appropriate files and settings. When the synching is completed, however, and the iPod goes back to the battery charging screen or menu, iTunes will no longer synch with the iPod. Sometimes I get an error and sometimes I don't. One of the settings I was trying to change was to only synch checked items. I would click the checkbox, and then click apply. iTunes would say it was synching please do not disconnect, but the iPod did not react at all.
I have called apple support 3 times, and the first guy said it is a harware issue and they are sending me a new one (it is going to take 6 days :P). The next two guys did not have a clue as to what the problem was.
I have restored the iPod twice. I have reinstalled Quicktime and iTunes 7.1. The iPod has version 1.2.1 on it, which is the latest.
I don't see how this could be a "hardware" issue. The iPod plays videos and music just fine. And it synch just fine in the initial connection to the computer.
Does anyone out there have any saged wisdom with regard to this issue? I really don't want to wait 6 days for a new ipod just to find out I still have the same issue.
Thanks,
Chris

• 30GB iPod Video not being recognized by iTunes and low battery warning

This is without a USB connection to mu Vista machine
1. I hear a clicking sound (it comes from the HD) on start up.
2. A dark Apple icon appears
3. Then the back light comes on with the sad face iPod icon and exclamation point.
4. It then shuts down and screen goes off.
Plug it into a USB port and same issue but the screen shows an un-backlit "Please Wait Very Low Battery" message.
If I leave it plugged into the USB port it just cycles through the process.
Note too that the iPod is not recognized by iTunes.
I have done the reset process without success.
I thiught I had a bad HD and/or battery so I replaced both. I get the same issues.
Anyone have an idea?
DAve

Well I tried putting the old hard drive back in and it was recognized in iTunes. All is well now.
I think the issue is that once the battery is totally run down there is no way for the thing to get enough power from a USB port to bootstrap itself.
I finally let thing recharge from a wall adapter all day.
I suggest you try to get it charged via the car adapter overnight. Of course the car port must be supplying power with the key off.
The Apple store people said they fix this type of issue by charging the ipod for 20 mimutes with a high power charger (I assume this is a 1394 type).
All these issues coulkd be solved with a better design,

• BRAND NEW - OUT OF BOX IPOD VIDEO NOT BEING RECOGNIZED BY ITUNES

Alright, the topic basically describes what my problem is. This only pertains to my iPod video. Just bought it, opened it, started up computer and iTunes 7 (just updated) (I've had a nano for 5+ months) and plugged it in. It didn't show up. Didn't appear under devices but Windows does normally recognize it.
Help appreciated. Preferred if responded by email [email protected]

Hey Ethan,
This may be drive letter confusion in Windows. try assigning your video iPod a different drive letter, following these steps:
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:

• Canon 20D and ipod video not compatible?

like many other users, I have a canon D20 and it is impossible to import the pictures from the D20 to Ipod. the various messages after several attempts are:
pas de carte insérée
file : 0
import failed...
we also tried with our Leica digilux 1 : same errors
we finally tried with Canon powershot pro : miracle! it works.
those who succeed with their D20 to import pictures to ipod video 60G, PLEASE describe the procedure... maybe the user nick... may help me?
thanks a lot

I followed the Camera Connector instructions and switched both the iPod and the EOS 20D on before connecting. The messages 'Unsupported Device' and 'No Card Inserted' were both shown at different times. Upgrading the camera firmware from 1.0.5 to 2.0.3 didn't help. Then, with everything connected and 'No Card Inserted' showing on the iPod display, I switched the camera off and then on, and the iPod recognised the camera. Photos were easily downloaded to the iPod and then into the computer using Adobe Photo Downloader, which automatically started when the iPod was connected to the computer
