IPod Video Notes - Tab Character not interpreted

Hello,
I'm having some difficulty with the formatting of text displayed on the iPod Video.
For some reason, my iPod refuses to interpret the TAB character. It simply omits it, concatenating the adjacent text into one long string. I created text files in nano, saving them in both the default and "mac" modes, as well as in the MAC application "textedit" and neither worked.
An obvious solution would be to use spaces to replace the tabs, however for some reason the iPod appears to use a proportional font, which screws up the alignment.
Can anyone tell me how to get the iPod to see the TABs or to change to a non-propotional font?

Me again,
James Lee, at Tropical Software was kind enough to respond to an e-mail and explain that this is an inherent flaw in the ipod's ability to render text.
I'm really stunned that the iPod notes function can't display a tab character. That's just silly. The TAB has been a part of ascii since before FM radio was cool.
C'mon Apple - fix this one!
And let me plug Tropical Software. Anyone with customer service like they have, deserves it! Check out their Tropical Notes for iPod at www.tropic4.com
I figured I'd answer my own question in case someone else googles for this...
cheers

  • Ipod Video to TV does not work :(

I just bought the iPod AV Connection Kit today, it came with the Universal Dock a RCA cable that connects to line out, but for some reason I have trouble displaying videos. It seems like my sound works but video does not show up on TV.
I tried changing setting on iPod to TV>ON still does not work, I tried S-Video still no picture. Can anyone help? Is my cord or dock defectetive? Thanks

There is no "Photos" library in itunes, this is why its not listed in iTUnes source list. On the PC it just takes photos from the folder you tell it to to add to the iPod.
What you have to do is on the ipod, goto Photos>Slide show settings>TV Out and set it to "On" or "Ask" whichever you prefer.
On - This setting sends the signal/Photo to the TV screen and not on the ipod screen.
Ask - This setting means everytime on the ipod it will ask you (When you goto slide show) if you want to turn TV Out on or off

  • Ipod Video Sync Error "Disk not found"

I tried to sync my old ipod video to with my new itunes library so I could put add additional 20G on. But when I went to sync it, I got a red error message reading "The ipod could not be synced because the disk could not be found." Does anyone know what this means or how to fix it?

    Hey there,
Have you tried putting your iPod into Disk Mode? For more information on how to do this see the link below. Also, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod, unless you don't have your music backed up somewhere. Hope this helps.

  • IPod Video problem with songs not playing

I received a 30GB iPod video for christmas today and accidently made a mistake while configuring it. Since I had an old iPod I figured that i wouldn't have to insert the enclosed CD and therefore I connected my iPod to my computer. The iPod icon never came up on my desktop so, left with no other choice i had to unplug it with the dreaded "do not disconnect" on the screen. Now, I can put songs on the iPod but it won't play them. The time bar at the bottom of the iPod screen simply sits at :00 as long as i leave the iPod on. HELP!!

  • IPOD video 30 gig will not charge

The big battery icon shows on the screen but the progress bar does not move. I have let it sit and sit and still no charge. Has anyone had this happen? It will turn on but then shuts off and says the battery is low.

  • Ipod Video (30 gig) will not shut off

    Hello,
I have a problem turning off the Ipod. I press and hold the play/pause button. sometimes for 30 sec and nothing happens. I have done the five steps listed on the help page twice (reset etc...). Has anyone had this happen? How to fix?

I had this happen with mine. It won't shut off when the hard drive is going, and occasionally (for whatever reason) it takes a while before the drive stops. You might want to select a smaller song or something, or try pausing it. Honestly, I didn't find much of a solution other than waiting for the drive to stop.

  • New ipod video not recognized by my computer at all

i have an ipod mini and itunes on my windows xp computer. i just bought the new ipod video that it is not recognized by my computer at all. i plug it in and the entire computer freezes. if i plug in my mini everything works fine.
i have tried updating/uninstalling my new ipod video. i am worried that if i uninstall itunes that i will lose my purchased music.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do? does anyone have the same problem as me? i really want to start using my new ipod help please.

I assume you have installed the iPod driver, before connecting the 5G iPod. It is possible the device driver for the mini is different, and thus confusing your computer. The iPod driver is on the CD that came with your 5G iPod (iPod with Video)

  • Please HELP, "iTunes has stopped working" error after connecting iPod video

People please help me out!  I have a Razer Blade gaming laptop with Windows 8 64bit.
I have an iPhone 5, iPad 2 and an iPod video (80GB).  I had some weeks from not connecting the iPod to my computer, but this morning that I did so I can upload some new music to it, iTunes just crash, I get the "iTunes has stopped working" error message when I connect the iPod video.  I do not have this problem with either the iPhone 5 or the iPad 2, when I connect these, iTunes works fine, once I connect the iPod, then all goes down
Procedures that I already tried and that were unsuccessful to solve the problem:
    Uninstall Quicktime
    Uninstall iTunes and reinstall
    Reset the iPod (several times)
    Delete TEMP files on computer
    Restart the computer (several times)
Use a different cable and a different USB port
The iPod is working fine, if I plug it to my car stereo or if I use it with headphones it works great, no problems nor errors.  My computer also identify the iPod as a hard disk, no error messages from Windows, it is just the freakin' iTunes that freezes everytime that I plug the iPod
PLEASE HELP ME OUT, I've searched forums on this particular issue but with no luck.
    Thanks very much!

It is only when I attempt to add a song to my iPod once plugged in that I receive the error "Itunes has stopped working" and forces me to exit the program, without the song being successfully transferred.
Do you have the "Convert to 128 kbps AAC" preference enabled for syncing to the iPod, laur?
If so, it's quite plausible that you've got the iTunes 10.1.0.54 bug and we need to get you updated to 10.0.1.56 as per the following document:

  • Tab character in variable declaration

    Hello,
I have a little problem with declaration of variables in scripts. I get an error when there is a TAB character between the variable name and its data type:
    VARIABLE var_name     number;
Bind Variable "var_name     number" is NOT DECLARED
This error occur only when I try it in SQL Developer - other tools accept it. Any suggestions how to get rid of this error?

Couldn't find any prior bug for this, so I logged it:
Bug 12409565 - TAB CHARACTER NOT RECOGNIZED AS WHITESPACE IN SQL*PLUS BIND VARIABLE DECLARATION
It seems limited to SQL*Plus syntax, perhaps just the VARIABLE command, and does not replicate in PL/SQL blocks.
Adding a blank after the tab works around the error, but won't be enough if the tab remains as part of the variable name.

  • 5th Gen iPod Video not syncing all video podcasts

My 5th Gen iPod video is not syncing all of my video podcasts.
I did specify in the settings to sync all videos, but for some reason it only places 3 of each on the iPod. This is using the latest version of iTunes, OS X 10.4.8, and iPod up-to-date.
This did work fine with the previous version of iTunes and only seemed to happen since the "upgrade".
I've tried restoring the ipod - didn't work
    Reinstalled iTunes - didn't work
    Rebooted system - didn't work
    Undocked/Redocked iPod - didn't work
    Please Help.

Assuming you're running iTunes 7, connect the iPod and wait for it to appear in the iTunes source list. When it does, click on it, and click on the 'podcast' tab. Make sure it is set to sync all podcasts. Check the 'video' tab as well.
iTunes 7 included several new options for setting just how the iPod will update in iTunes. So, it's a good idea to go through them and make sure they're set exactly how you'd like them to be.
    Hope this helps

  • My iPod Video is not being read as an iPod Video

I have an iPod video 5th generation, and since I restored it, the video and photo tabs do not show up. It's being read as an earlier type of iPod than it is.
I am getting very angry about this, especially since I bought it new.

Never mind. It's fixed itself somehow.

  • Another ipod video not working Q

ok, having read the forums, FAQ, posted on all the geek forums, gotten videora, converted using videora, gotten handbrake for windows, and done all that. I STILL CANNOT GET THE VIDEO TO WORK
here it is, ill break it down. i have a short clip, which i shot using a digi camera. it is in quicktime, i converted it to mpeg 4 using videora. so its sitting there, all pretty. i open up itunes, plug in the ipod, click and drag teh converted file onto my ipod icon.
so now its sitting in my ipod, yet when i look at it in itunes, all i get is audio, when i look for it on my ipod, it is listed as a music track and plays audio, but it doesnt come up at all in the video playlist, and yes, i have turned tv on/off.
more to the point, the converted mpeg4 file turns out as audio, ***??
this seriously annoys me, i want to punch the makers of ipod in the face so badly

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Connect the iPod and go to edit-->preferenes. Click the iPod tab. Click the videos tab under that. Make sure automatically update all videos is selected.
Note: Your preferences may look slightly different.
    Also...

You may also want to go to videos-->video settings-->TV Out-->off
See if those help. If not, post back for more info.
Are you accessing videos through the videos menu or the music menu? Or are they not showing up under videos? If you access videos through the music menu, they will not play as videos, but only play the audio.

  • 30 GIG Video iPod, Video Options not available - Please help!

    Hi.
I have a 30 GIG iPod Video 5th gen, with the latest iPod updater software installer on it.
But when I look at the iPod preferences, when it's plugged in via USB, all Video options (manual vs automatic etc) are all greyed out and not available for selection.
And I can't drag any videos onto the iPod (even with the right video format!).
It's like the iPod itself doesn't recognised that it is an Video one, like it has a complex and can only deal with music and photos.
Can anyone help or offer advice?
    Anyone had a similar problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help guys.
Even with the iPod set to manual, I couldn't drag iPod format videos directly onto it.
Did a factory restart, and it has fixed the problem.
And just a note; the options in the video tab will always be greyed out, when the iPod is set to manually update songs.
    cheers!
