Ipod Video Scratches

I really get desperate about the scratches on my Ipod video. I have a problem with my Ipod video 60 GB it is very vulnerable for scratches. After 2 days I had so many scratches that I brought it back to the interdiscount branch in Vevey. When your interdiscount assistent inspected the screen he wiped over the screen with his finger which make me dazzle, so I had even more scratches on my Ipod ! They sent it to the repair center. I was quite amazed when it returned unrepaired with the text "Usertracks !". I did not scratch my Ipod ! I paid a lot and am proud to have one, I always keep it in the cover.
2 months ago a bought a Nikon S1 Coolpix, I am using it very intensivly but no scratches at all ! This is because of the special coating on the LCD screen.
Please help !

I'm totally depressed about scrathes and scuffs on my 60G videp iPod - you'd think for what you pay for this item it would better resist scratches! I bought an Xtreme Mac Microshield for my iPod thinking that this would protect it -wrong. Dust gets between the shield and the screen creating scuff marks. I put the shield on the moment I took the new iPod from box. I took it off noticing the scuff marks thinking that it was on the shield - wrong again - it was on the screen. I tried wiping the screen clean with a soft cotton cloth - more scratches!! I also have a photo iPod that I've had for a year - the screen is cleaner than my video iPod that I've had for three months. And the photo iPod has no screen protection.
Anybody have any suggestions?

  • IPod video... what can safely remove surface scratches?

Ok, I know this is a really stupid question, but I just paid $400.00 for a 60 gig iPod video and the slipcover they gave me w/ the iPod has really scratched up my iPod. What can I use on the iPod that will safely remove the surface scratches?
Another thing... what does the "i" in iPod mean? It's driving me nuts.
    Thanks for the help.

the slipcover they gave me w/ the iPod has really
    scratched up my iPod.
Actually, it didn't. The slip case is as smooth as a newborn baby's face. What happened to you will happen with any case or even with your fingers.
Dirt can get between anything and your ipod and cause scratches. When you pull your iPod in and out of the slip case, don't grab it from the back and front. Hold it from the metal sides always. The same goes for any case at all.
Even when you handle it with your hands, don't rub it hard because any dirt on your hands will scratch it.
None of this is even unique to the iPod. I holds true for anything shiny, including Sony's Walkman and my silver cigarette case!

  • SCRATCHED MY IPOD VIDEO SCREEN..HOW TO FIX?!

I've just purchased a 30gb ipod video, along with a skin. While i was putting on the skin, it roughly damaged the screen and scratched it. I am very dissapointed for the screen is suppose to prevent scratches, but while putting it on. It actually created a big scratch and smudges on it. And it is quite unbearable to watch videos with it. Does anyone know how to remove, or if the apple warranty covers it?

I have had success removing scratches with Brasso and a cotton ball. It takes a bit of effort. Wait until the Brasso dries then wipe it off with a face cloth, then buff with a microfine cloth.

  • No longer able to import photos onto my iPod Video 80GB

    Hi all
I have had my iPod Video 80gb for about 2 months and at first enjoyed viewing my photos on it. The day that V7.3 was released & I upgraded I experienced several problems, some of which are already well documented on this forum. One problem that nobody else seems to have mentioned, is that I can now no longer import any of my photos onto my iPod. I receive the message...
“Some of your photos including filename.jpg were not copied to the iPod Caraline’s iPod because they cannot be displayed on your iPod.
As absolutely nothing had changed on either my iPod or my computer (other than iTunes version) I presumed this problem was tied up the new version. As I was having other problems with this version I decided to uninstall and re-install V7.2. However the problem persists. I even tried deleting everything from my iPod and every iTunes file, folder & cache and starting from scratch again with V7.2. I have also re-set my iPod back to the factory settings.
It does not seem to matter what the source of the original photos was, either from camera, or scanned, nor does it matter the size. I have spent hours experimenting, and absolutely nothing I do seems to solve this problem.
I am totally stumped as to why photos that I once could copy onto my iPod now are deemed undisplayable. I feel terribly disappointed as my iPod now seems crippled and does not perform a function that was a main consideration in buying one in the first place.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry everyone. I just realised that photos are discussed in a the iPod forum and this topic is being covered there. So please ignore this post.

  • Best type of case for iPod Video 30GB

    Merry Christmas everyone!
I just got a new iPod Video (30GB), and I'm looking into accessories for it. I want to buy a case that's good to protect the ipod from scratches and such, as well as if I accidentally drop it. I know there are a lot of good minds out there.. what would anybody recommend that would do the job, but at a considerable price (around 20-25 bucks)?
    Thanks in advance!

best I've found so far is an iskin. It's over your price limit but provides top of the line protection for screen as well as thumpage protection (I drop mine a lot)

  • Ipod Screen Scratches

Hey all, new to the forums so i'm sorry if this has been asked myriad times, but:
I work at a BestBuy selling Ipods/other mp3 players, cell phones (including the Motorola Rokr)/etc etc, so naturally i have people asking me about Ipod videos, nanos, etc all the time. I know just about everything i can know about them, like how to put dvds on (i just broke down and payed $35 for PQ Dvd to ipod (www.pqdvd.com) ), pics, all that and don't have a problem explaining that to people, but everyone seems to ask about the screen scratches/cracks, wanting to know what's going on with the news of class action suits and all that, and one customer mentioned something about apple granting rebates or vouchers or something on the ipod nanos/videos because of the screen scratching so easilly. My point is that I'd like to know what's just a rumor and what isn't (I bought the 60 gb black video as soon as it came out and although i LOVE using it i must admit that i kept it in the protective sleeve 24/7 in my pocket, keeping it seperated from everything else, and in less than a week it had managed to somehow STILL get scratched up) so if apple IS giving vouchers or something I'd love to be in on it, and figured the forums were the place to go to find out what's what.
    so any help?
    Thanks,
    -Giffdud

    haha well...simply...
No...there are no vouchers and i wouldnt even worry about the class action suit...
all apple has done is started including a sleeve with the ipod nano like the one included with the video.

  • What is the best case for 30GB iPod Video?

I recently purchased a 30GB iPod Video and I am wondering which hard shell case is best? I only use my iPod for casual use (carrying around) NOT for the gym, sports, water or things like that. I just want to ensure the best protection for the color screen.

  • What is the case that comes with the iPod Video?

My Friend just got a Nano and the case that came with is is just like a little sleeve that the iPod slides into....it also has no access to any controls (hold button, Dock connector, Click whell, etc.) and cannont see the screen.. you have to take the ipod out to use it....is it that same thing for the iPod video?
Dell   Windows XP Pro   Future owner of iPod video 30GB or 60GB (5G)

The case that came with my 5th generation black iPod video sounds similar to the one you're describing. It is totally enclosed and the only items that I have access to are the headphone jack (top) and the hold button (also on the top). If I put the iPod into the case upside down I can have access to the usb connector. This isn't meant to be a case for use (other than turning it on and going) but I've been able to push through the case to skip songs, rewind, etc.
So, in short, it's nothing fancy but it has done a good job of protecting my iPod against scratches.

  • Questions about ipod video

hi, im going to buy an ipod video, but i just need to be sure its good...i just have a question to every1 that had 1, is it good/worth buying?
and for how long can you watch movies on it till the batterie ends?

If you want a system that can hold all your CD's, listen to audiobooks on, download podcasts of the latest news, carry your family pictures and display them with music on a TV, and have the ability to watch your DVD's or downloaded movies on, then the video Ipod is right for you.
If you want a mp3 player that will NOT get scratched up if you stick it in your pocket, want a mp3 player that you can do extreme exercising with, or want to be able to load DVD's on it without taking the time to experiment and tweak the programs necessary to do it, the the video ipod is NOT for you.

  • Need help with ipod video, problems with blinking screen, wont charge

    Hello,
I'm a new owner of an ipod video, and I've had it for not even two weeks and haven't used it but 3 or 4 times, and I went to turn it on and nothing happened, so I figured the battery died. Then I hooked it up to the usb and computer (windows xp OS) and nothing except a fast blinking white screen and a low noise, not music though. It wont charge, and I even reinstalled everything and used all the tips online- any words of advice except to take it to an apple store?

Apple decided to hide the user library folder with OS10.7. You can get to it by using the menu.
    Quit Illustrator.
    Method one....
In the Finder choose Go > Go To Folder and type "~/Library" (no quotes) and hit OK.
    Your Library folder will open.
Then navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings
Move that Settings folder to your desktop.
Restart Illustrator and try exporting again.
If it works as expected, you can trash teh Settings folder on your desktop.
Since you're removing preferences, items like Scratch Disk settings will need to be reconfigured in Illustrator if you've altered them from the default settings.
    Second method.....
Hold Command-Option-Shift when you launch Illustrator.
    Preferences will be removed.
You won't get any sort of dialog or window confirming this, it just happens.
    Reason for two methods.
Method one allows you to put the settings folder back if yoru problem is not cured by removing it. It also allows you to move items back to the new Settings folder that is created (like Workspaces).

  • Best Way to Clean iPod Video

    Hello All,
As most of you know, or have heard the iPod Video smudges and scratchs VERY easily. I was wondering if anyone knew good way's for cleaning the iPod. I've had this a little more than 24 hours and its been either in an iPod sock or its box the whole time. And it still has a lot of smudges, and scratch's already.
    Thanks,
    Shane Eliason

    A quote from the manual:
Make sure your iPod is unplugged. Use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don’t use aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, or abrasives.

  • Reactions I get when showing off my iPod Video

So far, everyone I have shown my new iPod to has been wowed. It seems even a lot of non Apple types act like they have heard of the new video iPod even before I show it to them. They all are anxious to see the picture and screen quality. Everyone I have shown if to thinks the screen image quality is incredible, which I agree it is.
The very next thing they ask is "Where is the sound?"
Although I know my iPod is mostly for my personal use, there needs to be some type of non obtrusive speaker that we can attach or keep attached to at least get some basic sound through w/o having to pull out the ear buds.
I'd like to see a super thin yet full size speaker unit that sits flush against the back of the iPod, yet that has a small base that the iPod connector locks into. With the thinness of the 30GB iPod, and even a similar thickness speaker, the whole assembly wouldn't be much thicker than my old iPod Photo.
The other thing across the board that is interesting is people's reaction to the $299 price point. Everyone seems to think that is a good price, and are frankly surprised it doesn't cost more!
Finally, they are amazed by it's capacity. My iPod Video right now has close to 1900 songs, 1800 photos, and 34 videos, 2 of which are full length films. Out of the 27.8GB total capacity, I am only using about 10GB, so I can more than double my current content, which at the level of stuff I have on it now, amazes people!
    But.........
Yesterday I couldn't resist and took off the plastic film that was over the face of theiPod when I opened it. I quickly, in the same day, decided I didn't want to risk the screen getting badly scratched, so I put it in it's iPod sock, and took it to Staples, and got some PDA screen protectors and covered it right there in the store. Even with it being uncovered only for a couple hours, and barely touched, I ended up getting small scratches on the screen. My iPod Photo that I still need to sell after long usage still doesn't have a scratch on it. This new plastic scratches ridiculously easy!
But here's what kills me: these thin sheets of plastic film can take me using my fingernail to get the air bubbles out from underneath and still not scratch, but the surface of my iPod can't?? And what happened to this supeer strong polycarbonate that was developed for the iBook? Wouldn't that be tougher than this? Go even further back and try to remember the frosted clear plastic of the toilet seat iBook. That stuff never scratched.
I love my new iPod, but it is wrapped in screen protectors till I can get a case and a hard plastic screen protector for it.

I just bought my first video, U2's "City of Blinding Lights", from the iTunes store, & I can't believe how clear it really looks on the screen & of course it sounds great. I haven't showed it yet to anyone but my husband & he says it looks good.
I haven't taken the covering off of the front of my iPod since everyone says that it scratches so bad. I don't have anything on the back of it, so I'm trying to be careful not to get scratches on it. I haven't find a good case that fits it yet, but I've been looking.
I would like to put my concert clips from my computer on my iPod, but I really don't want to shell out $30 for Quicktime Pro. Anything else out there that's maybe free or at least cheaper?

  • Done everything, iPod Video still not regconized in iTune 6 !!! ???

I have purchased the iPod Video 30GB Black
First of all, i am using Windown XP Pro SP2. I installed the iPod updater 12/Oct/2005 ( or driver .. whatever ) and iTunes 6.0.13 which are both newest version. Yep, Windown Explorer can regconize it. Alright, let's open iTunes and rock! Woopseeee, iTunes isn't regconize it ?? *** ?? Okey, i will reset my iPod, remove iPod driver and restart my computer. Then i reinstall iTune and install the driver, still can't regconize in iTunes. I restart my computer again and done the same thing .. *** .. ??
What can i do now ? Please help me out !
    Regards

OK....you might want to try this.....write me with some more error messages or how your iPod/ iTunes responds to any of this. If you can, I would try restoring the iPod first (art #300701). Does the iPod Updater recognize it??
SCENARIO 1: Follow article number 93716: iPod appears in Windows Explorer, but does not appear in iTunes
(You might have to either reinstall the COM interface, completely remove iTunes and the iPod Updater and install them again - VERY IMPORTANT: Follow the steps exactly like they're written)
SCENARIO 2: Disable the Anti-Virus Program running on your computer (make sure you are NOT on the internet when you disable your anti virus!)
SCENARIO 3: You have some fighsty programs running on your computer that like to start a conflict with macintosh based software and need run a MSCONFIG (article #302538)
SCENARIO 4: You do NOT meet the system requirements (check article 60971)
SCENARIO 5: Check your device manager, if it is completely blank, you more than likely need to wipe your hard drive, because you probably have a virus on your computer and need to start from scratch
SCENARIO 6: You get an error message while your doing any of the above steps (refer to article 93976 or any other knowledge base article, or contact either installshield or your computer manufacturer for further assistance)
