Ipod video sold without firewire/charger?

have just purchased an ipod video from the new apple center in amman, jordan - am surprised to find it sold without firewire or charger!! bought an ipod mini two years ago with these accessories included
has the policy changed since then?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
New iPods no longer come with chargers.
Also, the 5th generation iPod is not capable of syncing over FireWire, though it can charge through a FireWire cable.

  • Using G5 iPod Video with older Firewire cable

I have an older iPod, the 15GB model that used the Firewire cable with the dock connector, but I just purchased a new 60GB iPod Video. It comes with an USB cable and not a firewire one, but I already have the power brick and stuff that uses my Firewire cable. Can I use my older cable with my new iPod Video eventhough it warns me when I plug it in?

You can use the firewire cable to charge the new iPod, but you can't use it to sync content onto your new iPod.
The power brick with firewire cable will charge the new iPod without any problems at all.

  • Ipod video converter without all this adware , spyware e.t.c

    Hi again!
I 'm sure that many relative questions will have been asked again but is there any s a f e free video converter for ipod without all this adware types ?
Is it also additionaly available for conversion of flv video types or do I need an extra converter from flv to (e.g.) mpeg ?
In the past I used videora but is seems that it is also suspicious of all this spyware stuff !
If there is not anyone for free, which is your proposal for buying a reliable one including flv conversion ?
    Thanks

  • IPod Video Battery Wont completely Charge

I left my ipod hooked up for two days straight and its still charging. The battery is also staying red. What's worng?

Well I think that you should be using USB 2.0 not firewire iPod isn't supported on the computer so I don't think it should be suported by the wall adapter and if it is than I don't think it will give right information on charging.

  • 2nd Gen iPod on PC without Firewire

I just got a video iPod and wanted to give my mom my old 2nd gen iPod. However, her PC does not have Firewire. Are there any options for connection or will she just not be able to use it on her computer?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Video in without firewire port?

I bought a 13" Aluminum MacBook recently. I didn't read the spec carefully. I discovered only after I have receive the shipment that this MacBook no longer have the firewire port. Without it, how can I connect my Camcorder via the DV port?

Thank you for your suggestions. I think I would keep the MacBook even though the loss of the firewire was really a step backward. It was my own fault to assume that the firewire port would carry forward from the white MacBook. This MacBook is not my only Macintosh. I also have a old G5 iMac that can handle my camcorder fine.

  • Syncing iPod Video with Firewire

I was wondering why we're unable to sync our music onto our iPod video's via Firewire? I recently needed to erase my iPod and reinstall my library. I had over 9400+ songs, which took over 24 hours to sync. Why can't music be added via Firewire? Thanks
    Ted

The 5th Gen iPod does not have the necessary firewire controller hardware in it, which makes firewire data transfer impossible.

  • Use QuickTime Player to convert movies to iPod video format......

I don't know if this has been posted but, thought everyone might find it useful.
You can convert quicktime movies to readable ipod video format without having to purchase Quicktime Pro. Thats right, just the Quicktime player.
Now, I know that you can use Handbrake along with other converter programs for free. but just in case you want to use Quicktime Player here is a link that will show you how via applescript or automator.
    http://www.cs.brandeis.edu/~ari/scripts/Quicktime2iTunesVideo.html

Here's a step-by-step of ONE of the ways (I have a Mac) you can convert your videos (mpgs) to mpeg4 files to view on your 5th gen iPods so your videos will have sound:
I use Mpeg streamclip found on www.squared5.com.
(This is from memory and I don't have the program opened in front of me so apologies if this is not totally accurate!)
Once you've installed Mpeg streamclip, and opened up a new window, drag the mpg file you want converted onto the new window. You should now see the first clip of your video in the window.
Go to File and choose "Export to MPEG4". This will open up another window. Click the button "iPod" on the upper right corner of the window and that will automatically input the settings for an iPod. Then click the button "Export to MPEG4" at the lower right corner of the window. You have to choose where you want your file saved. I just place them in the Videos folder of my hard drive. Then this will start the conversion of your mpg.
Depending on how large your file is, this may take awhile.
When the conversion is complete, simply take your new file (now with ".mpeg4" as an extension) and DRAG it into your iTunes library. I don't remember if you have to actually drag it onto your iPod as well.
As you drag the mpeg4 file onto your iPod, it should say "updating song" at the top of you iTunes window, then you know it worked.
So now you have a VIDEO on your iPod that plays SOUND!!
    Hope this was helpful.

  • ITunes 11.1.1 freezes when I connect iPod Video

Ever since installing iTunes 11 on Windows 7 laptop, I can't plug in my iPod Video (5G) without crashing iTunes.  Every update to iTunes does the same, including 11.1.1.  My iPod works fine.  iTunes 10 works fine (on a different computer).  No way am I putting 11 on the other computer until this is resolved.

Well, I'm pleased to say that I solved the problem (but not the mystery).  I tried all our Apple iDevices on my laptop (with iTunes 11.1.1), and they all worked OK, except the abovementioned 5G Video (including another 5G Video that I had).  When the 2nd 5G Video worked, I realized the problem lied with the 1st iPod, so I did a "Restore" (to original settings), and that seemed to do the trick.  I didn't think to do this before because the iPod worked fine otherwise, and worked with the old iTunes 10.7.
But here's the rub:  I HAD to use the old iTunes 10 to do the restore...because iTunes 11 crashed before I could do a Restore.  So, the mystery may never be solved, but at least all is now working.

  • My daughter bought an 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  We are using the charger from an ipod touch and it won't charge.  Someone posted online that not all chargers will work on the classic.  Anyone else have this issue and any suggestions?

My daughter bought a 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  The ipod was working just fine, but then we tried to charge it using a brand new charger for an Ipod Touch.  It won't charge and someone online someone posted that there ipod touch charger worked on the ipad, phone and whatever else he had but it wouldn't work on the classic.  Anyone else have this same issue?  Any solutions?

The ipod did not come with a power cord as we purchased it used from ebay.  The ipod was half charged when we received it and it worked well enough to transfer songs to my computer (the previous seller didn't delete their 2000 plus songs).  My son then used the same cord on his computer to transfer the songs, but processed an update to the ipod and after that,it wouldn't work.  So, I'm not sure if we received a bum ipod, an update issue or we have a charger issue, but the cord we used to transfer the songs came from my son's brand new ipod touch.  We've also tried 2 other chargers from ipods we have in the house, 1 being a wall charger.
One individual posted online that he took his ipod classic, mac and phone overseas with one charger and it worked fine on all but the classic.  So, I'm thinking that they cords may not be universal.  Online I've read that it must be a 6 pin firewire, high power 2.0 usb cord.  Or that I need to purchase an applie charger.  We don't live close to an apple store and I'm reluctant to order one just to have it NOT work.
My daughter is learning the hard way that buying off of ebay is not always the best solution to a cash strapped 12 year old.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Using Flip Video Power Adaptor to charge an iPod Touch

Is it possible to use a Flip Video Power Adaptor to charge my iPod Touch without damaging it?
The Flip Adaptor says: Output +5VDC 1A (5W)
    Thanks

With this sort of thing you have a choice. You can take your chances with the cheap option, or possibly pay more than is necessary, but have what is pretty much a sure thing.
If we were talking maybe a $100 or less MP3 player, I'd say go with the cheap option because the worst that happens is you have to buy a new MP3 player for around $100. Annoying, but generally doable.
With expensive electronics, I'd suggest the sure thing. If you go cheap, and it fries the logic board on the MBP, then you're looking at like $1200 minimum. Probably around $200+ for the iPod, and around $500 for the iPhone. If Apple's gear ends up frying the various devices, Apple would be pretty much obliged to replace them. You buy some third party stuff, they'll just say the fault must have been with the third party adapters, and that you're SOL unless you cough up the cash for a repair/replacement.
So, at the end of the day, is it worth risking around $2,000 worth of equipment just to save a few bucks on a travel adapter? Only you can answer that.

  • Charging New iPod with Old FireWire Charger

Hi, this should be a quick one to solve... I have an old FireWire AC Charger from a 2nd (or 3rd?) Gen iPod I no longer use, and the original FW cable. The dock connector on the old FW cable fits my newer iPods (5.5G iPod Video and a Touch), can the FW AC charger be used to charger these newer USB-only iPods, or will it fry them?
If so, will it also work with a Nano? I want to get one for a friend who doesn't own a computer, so a wall charger will be their only way to charge (in which case I'll just by a new wall charger if the old FW one is incompatible).
    Thanks!
(Note: I don't need it to transfer data, just to charge)

Yes, you can charge new iPod off older Firewire chargers. Just no data transfer.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • IPod firewire charger and international travel

I have the Apple firewire charger (model A1070) and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's dual voltage capable for international travel? My digi cam and other chargers all say that they are, so they just need a simple plug adapter, but this charger only says 0.4A Max input.
I was hoping to use my same basic plug adapter for the iPod too, without having to buy the travel kit from Apple for $35.
    Thanks!

I've used mine overseas (Scotland, Spain) without any problems.

  • Is it OK to charge the ipod battery with a firewire cable?

I find I can connect my 60GB black ipod photo/video via a firewire cable to an electric plug that came with a prior ipod and plug it into an outlet to charge it.
But is this OK to do or can it cause some problem with the ipod?

    It's ok and works fine.

  • Syncing/Charging Problem with iPod Video 5G

I am experiencing a problem with my iPod Video 5G. When pressing the center button of the device, the apple logo appears. But before it completely starts up, it dies, leaving the screen with a faint apple logo and some lines. When I plug the iPod into my PC, a screen is displayed saying "Please Wait, Very Low battery." After a while, it restarts, and fully comes on, displaying the "Do Not Remove" screen. But a message shows up saying "No Battery Power Remains. Connect iPod to Computer". However, the battery meter in the top right hand corner shows a a completely charged battery. Also, it starts to beep. The iPod briefly shows up in iTunes, but then it shuts off, displaying a "very low battery" message again, and an error message comes up in iTunes. This whole process keeps repeating over again. This all came up out of no where, as I had used the iPod a few hours before this started. I have no idea what's wrong with it. Could it be the battery? Or the hard drive? I would appreciate any help greatly.

Go to the video settings (iPod nano) and turn off fit to screen.
