IPod Video - USB Cable connector area is broken

It appears that our USB cable got dented, and then when we went to plug it into the iPod that it damaged the port where you plug in the USB cable. We sent the iPod in to Apple (it's under warranty) and they simply sent it back to us in the same shape. They didn't even tell us "it will cost you $x if you want us to fix it". They want us to buy a new one. Which makes little sense.
I'm looking at online repair tutorials but I don't see any tutorial for the USB cable port. No manual shows that section of the iPod. Am I right in thinking that this port is an integral part of the motherboard, so what I am doing is replacing the $99 motherboard of the unit? I realize once I do that it's out of warranty, but heck, it's broken right now and Apple isn't even offering to fix it for a fee ... they want us to go buy a brand new one.
This is a fourth generation video iPod

I think the topic starter means iPod 3G not the second generation iPhone 3G.
But sorry, I don't know. I never used the new USB-cable for the iPod 3G, I always used Firewire.

  • What can i do if my ipod shuffle usb cable snapped and i cant find a new one?

i had this ipod for like 1/2 a year and i need a cable to charge it, im a musician and i need it to listen and play. plz help i need this =>

If that's a 2nd gen shuffle, which is the one shown in the image, the linked USB cable from the Apple Store is the wrong one.  That cable is only for the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle, as noted under Compatibility in the description.  The 2nd gen shuffle has a different connector.
This is the replacement for the 2nd gen shuffle
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A/apple-ipod-shuffle-dock
It is a bit costly, especially compared to a brand new 4th gen shuffle for $49.  There are third-party replacements that cost less at other online stores.  They should work, but make sure the item is described as being for the 2nd gen shuffle, not 3rd/4th gen.

  • IPod Classic USB Cable for iPhone charger?

Can I use the USB cable of my iPod classic or any iPods to charge my iPhone?

Your current car charger for the original iPhone will never work with the iPhone 3G because the firewire pins were removed from the iPhone 3G dock port at the bottom.
I'm looking for an FM transmitter/charger for my iPhone 3G but it looks like it'll be a few more weeks before new compatible products are released.

  • IPod Video and camera connector with Canon PowerShot Pro1

Does anybody have a new iPod video with a camera connector and a Canon PowerShot Pro1? I'm having trouble downloading images to my iPod?
Every time I connect the camera to my iPod, I get the message on the iPod screen that says "no card inserted".
I've tried 3 different memory cards in my camera with the same results.
    HELP?
    Jason

Don't know about the Pro 1. My Canon XT works fine. In the menu for the XT, I have COMMUNICATION: My choices are A)Print/PCP and 2)PC Connection. Print/PCP must be selected for it to work on mine. Check the menu of your Pro 1.

  • Help!! Ipod Video usb Port Not recognized !

Could anyone tell me what's going on with my ipod video 30g?
My friend borrowed my ipod for a file copy to his desktop, when I got it back and pluged it in the dock, the computer said: usb can't be recognized.
I am sure that the USB hub of my IBM is perfectly okay. And It is okay for the ipod to play music, photos and videos.
By the way, My friend's External Portable Hard drive also had the same problem after connecting to his desktop.
Have we got the Ipod usb port burned? Is there any way we can fix it?
    Thank You!

It seems that many people are still getting the 'USB Device not Recognized' problem from time to time. Unfortunately there is no easy fix.
Firstly, it's recommended that you make sure every one of your motherboard drivers are completely up-to-date, but you probably already knew that.
In XP, after a USB port isn't used for a long while the USB driver built into the OS sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When you plug a device back in, it can sometimes fail to 'wake up' properly. This problem was supposedly fixed in SP1 but there is a related registry hack that may still be able to help.
    Run regedt32.exe and navigate to;
    HKEYLOCALMachine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.
A long shot perhaps, but I recall having similar problems with a USB hub built into my Microsoft keyboard and adding this key seemed to solve it. It wouldn't hurt in trying .
Alternatively, removing all entries relating to USB in Device Manager and all associated USB drivers will force XP into refreshing the USB driver stack.
    Begin by unplugging all USB devices, then use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall any USB driver software. Next, boot up into safe mode and go to Device Manager. Once in device manager make sure 'Show hidden devices' is checked under the View menu. Uninstall all device entries in this order;
    1. USB peripheral devices (printers etc.)
    2. HID and/or Composite USB (Human Interface Devices) You're using PS/2 input devices so you may not have this entry.
    3. USB Root Hub(s)
    4. USB Host Controller(s) (Universal or Enhanced Host Controllers)
Then boot back into Windows (not safe mode) and it should populate the Root Hubs & Host controllers again. Proceed to plug your USB devices back in, starting with your powered hub. Be aware that most USB printers and scanners need to have their drivers installed first before you plug them in.
Hopefully some of this may be of help, let me know how you get on.

  • IPod Firewire/USB cable

A friend gave me his old iPod Version 1.5 10 GB touchscroll which was manufactured in 2002. He didn't have the cable that I need to connect to my USB port on my PC. I haven't been able to locate one on eBay or know anyone that has one. Does anyone know where I can obtain one? Most electronic stores do not have such accessories to purchase and the ones I have found have a dock connector plug, which I don't need.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You have a second generation iPod. As b said, you need a Firewire connection on your computer to use that iPod. USB cannot be used. If you do not have a Firewire port on your computer, you should get a Firewire card such as the Adaptec Fireconnect 4300 (for desktop PCs) or the Adaptec Fireconnect 1430 (for notebook PCs). You will also need a 6 pin to 6 pin Firewire cable which should be available in most computer shops.

  • Computer reboots when connecting ipod to USB cable.

Has this happened to anyone else?
All of a sudden now, whenever I connect my ipod to the USB cable, it makes my computer reboot! And it doesn't stop rebooting until I disconnect the ipod!
I have no idea why this is happening, and I don't know how to make it stop.
I am really starting to lose my faith in EVERY item that Apple has created.

When I connect my ipod to USB immediately following taking it off my AC adapter, it causes my computer (PC, XP) to restart.
Reinstall Windows. This has nothing to do with iTunes or any other Apple software, because that functionality is entirely Windows based.
If reinstalling windows fresh (and doing all the updates) doesn't fix it, then you have a hardware problem on the PC.

  • Using an iPod Classic USB cable on an iPhone 4S

Can you use an iPod classic (1st generation) USB (1.0) cable to charge the iPhone 4S? Is there any effects in doing this? I wanted to use this as an extra charger for my USB car charger.

I don't know... Just use the USB cable the nano comes with.

  • Ipod killing USB-cables, help!

My Ipod has a problem. It kills USB-cables and some cables don't even get in. I sent my Ipod to Apple to be repaired. But nothing was found wrong. It killed my first cable, now the second cable doesn't work. The cables from friends don't get in. At the store where I bought it, the same story. Why is this happening? I'm so frustrate. Help me! I don't now what to do.

Bring it in to Apple.  Maybe the battery is dead.

  • Ipod touch usb cable faulty

Just got an iPod touch 64 gig.  Cable worked for a few hours now I get message:
Becaue a usb device was drawing too much power from my computer one or more of my USB devices have been disabled. Get this on my iMac 27 inch and 15 inch mac book pro.  Anyone have a solution?  Seems cable may be defective.

Yes, it seems like a defective cable. Other uses have reported the same problem with the cable that came with their new 5G iPod. Go to an Apple store or call Apple for a replacement.

  • My Ipod Touch AND my itunes are apparently broken

My iPod touch crashed while I was updating an app from app store. I had to get it to shut off and then turn back on with the white apple loading for 5+ minutes.
Then when I access my ipod touch, some things are arranged differently than I had them before. Also, now it seems I have the ability to cause apps to disappear (even the default ones like weather and stocks and itunes) by putting them on the 9th page of apps and putting another one on page 9, thus pushing the last one off onto a non-existent page ten.
I realize this is a problem when I see that I've accidentally knocked my App store app off onto this unreachable page ten.
So I figure I better sync my ipod touch and try to fix whatever is wrong.
Not going to work because now my itunes library is all fracked. See, I have been trying to save room on my laptop by transferring my itunes and itunes library onto an external hard drive. I deleted every scrap of itunes related things off my laptop hoping that when I sync my ipod I can simply access all the itunes material I have saved on my external HD.
I load itunes from the external HD and nothing is on it so...ok, I decide to open up the itunes folder on my external HD and physically drag everything into my itunes program before syncing my ipod again. It loads everything, even things I had deleted previously. It now doesn't match up at all and I am not even sure how to begin to make it exactly how it was.
I try to sync my ipod touch anyway to at least try to correct the problems I detailed at the beginning of this post. ...and I get an error message that my ipod touch is synced with another itunes library. An ipod can only be synced with one library at a time. what would you like to do? My options are "erase and sync" which replaces contents of the ipod with the contents of the itunes library. or "transfer purchases" which copies purchases this computer is authorized to play from this ipod to the itunes library. I don't think transfer purchases is wise. but "erase and sync" seems dangerous.
That seems like I would lose anything I downloaded onto the ipod since my last sync like 2 weeks ago.
At this point there are so many levels of failure that I am not sure what to do.
Any ideas out there? I know this is convoluted but I am sure someone here may be able to piece some logic together from it. Or is my ipod touch basically stuck on whatever I happen to have on it right now?
    .

UPDATE: I soft reset the ipod touch and now all of the apps that disappeared onto the mysterious page ten are now back. However I just now consigned "Stocks" app to oblivion once again so I guess that page ten still eats apps if I squeeze anything onto page nine.
Also my issue with itunes and syncing to this new library is still a problem.
Will I lose all my apps and, for example all my downloaded books for Stanza and ibooks if I were to select "erase and sync" with the newly formed itunes library on my external HD. I have been setting that library up and everything that was on my ipod is in here. But I don't know what the locations all my apps and the preferences or my books in my stanza or ibooks. is all of that self contained in the .ips files?
also, there are only 51 items in my mobile applications folder when I have over 100 apps on my ipod touch....so I guess I am screwed out of over 50 apps files since I can't find them to add to my mobile applications folder for syncing.

  • My ipod touch USB cable is jammed in my laptop. I can't get it out. HELP!

I was charging my ipod, everything was working perfect. Then I accidentally dropped my laptop, and I guess a part of the bigger white section got jammed in there. Now I can't take it out. It won't budge at all! Is there a way to get it out, hopefully without damaging the cord too? :/

I would take it to a place that repairs laptops.  I would not be concerned about the cable but instead be concerned about the laptop.
